BusinessRe: Nigerian Penny Stocks by Aporo: 6:15pm On Aug 07, 2007
Whilst i am not an expert on stock analysis, i can identify the following fundamentals:

1. Market share or dominance of the company;

2. The market strength of the Company's product(s) over competition E.g are the product's performance contingent on some other happenings or it's always dominant?

3. Management is key. E.g Access Bank Plc has been recognized for its crop of top managers of late;

4. Debt Profile/Financial Viability of the Company - This factor is significant, it will determine payment of dividends and other pecks. In any event, payment of dividend in the last couple of years will always be a good indicator of a company's financial strength;

6. Look out for likely strategic alliances the company may have with a larger and more reknown company or even potential investments by foreign investor. That has been a major growth driver in the Nigerian banking sector of late.

7. Look out for industry trends i.e ban on importation/exportation one way or the other.

8.Look at the books. If you don't have the expertise, you may want to consult an analyst before you take a position.

These tips are borne out of my personal experience in investments.

Egoldman's post seems to answer that question - always analyze the fundamentals behind a stock before purchase, penny or not!!

InvestmentRe: I Own The Shares, But My Dad Signed Them by Aporo: 4:05pm On Aug 06, 2007
Very correct Seun and i entirely agree with your proposition.

Meanwhile, it would appear that only his Dad (regardless of Koboland's age), that can confirm whether purchase of the shares was indeed a gift or otherwise. It is not uncommon for people to buy properties especially shares in the names of their children not necessarily with the intention of giving it to them but oftentimes as some vehicle for investing.

My position would however be different if Koboland can confirm to us that there was a specific agreement or proof between himself and his father that demonstrates that the shares in question was a gift.
InvestmentRe: I Own The Shares, But My Dad Signed Them by Aporo: 1:36pm On Aug 06, 2007
@Koboland

Thank you for the clarification!

Since the shares were purchased in your name, i presume that the dividend warrants were also issued in your name and to that extent, i am of the view that you should be able to lodge them in your account.

I am afraid however that you may not be able to sell the shares whose certificate bears your name without the consent of your Dad who signed the purchase form in the first place.

Hello All,

Having spoken about riding and accidents in my post of Saturday 4th Aug 2007, i dropped quite shockingly at about 11am on Sunday 5th Aug 2007 some where in Yaba Lagos.

A freak head driving a two door civic against all traffic rules pulled out of an intersection without regard to moving traffic. The rest was history. It could have been serious but i maneuvered with my lower and upper brakes managing slightly not to run into the car's hood but i had to tilt very sharply and there i was on the floor. That was in 2 seconds guys!!

Trust me, and i say this with all modesty, i am one hell of a rider (with my records on interstate riding within Nigeria) but the reality appears to be that riding apparently opens you to more danger than a car would (the two to four wheel thing).

The bruise on my left leg and my bike were not excessive but i will commend all to be more cautious and careful when riding. Always scan traffic ways ahead of you like some computer screen and if you can afford it, put on as much riding kit as possible. The helmet, knee and elbow pads and your glove should be the starting point. I am much better now and at work today with a small limp in my steps though!

I hope we are not nuts Peeps!!! Whilst i just fell off my bike, i love riding even more will so do next week end if my bike is fixed by then!! IS THIS NOT THE LOVE AFFAIR WITH DEATH AS NOTED BY KOBE! What the heck, man can only die once but please let's be extremely careful as possible. A RIDER CAN NEVER BE TOO GOOD FOR ACCIDENTS.

Word for the day - keep having fun riding with the highest sense of caution and alertness.

@Tope FL
By the way, i ride a Kawasaki ZXR 750 2000 model ( i hope the description is correct) and will want to upgrade to a ZXR 1000 between 2001 to 2003 model. What could this cost me in Florida?
BusinessRe: Robert Kiyosaki: His 'Rich Dad' Does 'Not Exist'? by Aporo: 12:16pm On Aug 04, 2007
@easomoni
@debosky

Incredible!!

How will you pin point the existence of the Rich Dad character in real life as inquired by Easimoni? On what basis will you seek to know request the true identity of such character? Yes you could request for an affirmation - official and public if you like (and that must even be maintained by a sizable crop of persons who bought the book) but not full disclosure of identity. That will always be at the Author's prerogative unless law court directs otherwise!

My question remains, (and taking facts from your mouth Easimoni that Kiyosaki was actually asked who the rich dad was and he could not answer), how can one ascertain if the event in the book was a real life event as inquired by you?

I am even ready to assume (in the absence of compelling proof) that Kiyosaki refused to disclose the true identity of the Rich Dad (for whatever reason), would that amount to CONCLUSIVE proof that the Rich Dad does not exist and as such a creation of fiction? Yes it may affect the credibility of his work but is that event conclusive and final of the existence of the character? John Reed himself was careful not to conclude on this score and Kiyosaki interestingly has always taken this stand on his love for privacy. THE QUESTION IS DOES KIYOSAKI'S REFUSAL TO DISCLOSE IDENTITY OF CHARACTER IN HIS BOOK MAKE THE BOOK FICTION? THIS MAY BE INSTRUCTIVE BUT I WILL SAY NO!!

I can confirm to you as you may agree that the reservations being expressed on this thread are even stronger in America and to date nothing official and court action worthy had been found against Kiyosaki. What the law may require at worst is an affirmation from him to his readers that the Rich Dad really exists but he will never be obliged to disclose true identity of the rich dad in the absence of a class action by readers and or attendees of those conferences.

The class action will thus be the most ideal forum to inquire into the existence or otherwise of the Rich Dad character but you will even require some evidence (and that itself is an herculean challenge) to maintain it.

My point therefore is that in the absence of such legal avenue being explored to inquire into the "reality" of Kiyosaki's world, very little can be truly ascertained by any one individual. I may be wrong but i will like to have wider views in this regard.

@Easimoni

From me to you, i have always revered your views any where i come across them on this site but please, i think your views can be expressed without that tinge of negative insinuation. Your hint on my interest or motivation to be a part of this discourse still amazes me "kila gbe kile ju" kind of thing. I wonder!!

I will always appreciate objective and constructive criticism without that negative appendage which often times undermines the true essence of a discourse!!

There is this addictive thrill to riding bikes!! If you are not the biker type, you may not understand.

My 54yr old uncle just bought a Harley Davidson for 14,000 Euros and he says "its either you are a biker or not!"

He made me appreciate the wide difference between riding and speeding, yes they overlap but they are different.

Riding appears to be more responsible in matters of speed whilst speeding is often times "losing it or testing the limits" which to experts always precede most riding accidents. DONT EVER, I MEAN EVER DRINK AND RIDE PLEASE AND IF YOU DO, !!

I must confess that for me, speed is king but i had to balance my obsession for speed with the dire need to be responsible when riding as admonished by my Uncle.

For starters, if you got the riding thing in you, go for it but start very cautiously preferably with a smaller cc.

One thing i can assure you, YOU WILL ALWAYS TURN HEADS!!

Meanwhile, i must say that the thrill between a Cruiser Bike and a Sport Bike is equally different though with bikes like the Yamaha Vmax, you can hardly tell!!

Please start with a 250cc. Can you ride an Okada?
Car TalkRe: How To Save Money On Fuel (car Owners) by Aporo: 7:42pm On Aug 03, 2007
I just checked the link and i think you should have introduced it much earlier on this thread.

I don't dispute facts especially the ones that speak for themselves. I will not be using my "perception" to ignore such evidence in the circumstances.

Layi, it's up to you to defend yourself!!!

Thank you Seun for speed and resourcefulness!!
Car TalkRe: How To Save Money On Fuel (car Owners) by Aporo: 7:34pm On Aug 03, 2007
Seun,

Thank you for the subtle derogation in advising me to use my perception.

Without using it however (since that is your almighty verdict) i dare say that only Layi can confirm in the circumstances if the write up was "cut and paste" or otherwise.

You should be more open to adverse views seun even if you will not agree with them! I hope you will not tell me to use my brains this time around!

Share your experiences bro if you will!!! wink
Car TalkRe: How To Save Money On Fuel (car Owners) by Aporo: 7:25pm On Aug 03, 2007
Peeps,

The question Seun could have asked before taking a stand on the fact of plagiarism was whether the write up was "copy and paste" or otherwise. That was not asked and i dare say that only Layi can confirm that fact.

I agree with Layi though that we need to have in sight what contextually amounts to plagiarism.

In my view, it is possible that Layi actually improved on the content, tweaked it and presented in a totally different form.

He could also have sourced additional materials and or facts in addition to the original material (if that is the case)!

Or even collate different materials and facts from different sources in which case the end product will likely not be plagiarism.

Objectivity in the premises is likely to lend more strength to Layi's position than it would to Seun. It would have been a different scenario if Seun asked questions before concluding on the fact of plagiarism.

What model and engine size (cc) do you ride? And for how many years have you been at it?

Share with us your views of people's general aversion to riding. They readily consider it DANGEROUS, MAD, RISKY, UNSAFE, i could go on!

Yes it could be any or all of these things but it is normally bloated out of proportion.

I am crazy about bikes and even more riding?

I will love to hear and compare notes with other riders and bike lovers!!

The fears, the guts, the constant bickering of loved ones, and so on as we experienced

It will be fun to share!
InvestmentRe: I Own The Shares, But My Dad Signed Them by Aporo: 12:54pm On Aug 03, 2007
I slightly disagree seun.

It can only be his right subject to the consent of his Dad who in fact signed the share certificates.

Besides, he should also have difficulties lodging a dividend warrant that bears his Dad's name in his bank account.
BusinessRe: Robert Kiyosaki: His 'Rich Dad' Does 'Not Exist'? by Aporo: 9:32am On Aug 03, 2007
@Debosky

Since you have held yourself out as the expert on this subject, have you ever considered view of a number of Kiyosaki's fans that the rich dad he was writing and talking about was actually his friend's dad and not his? That his dad was the poor dad.

Trust me, there are a number of possibilities here. How if the father he was referring to was a mentor and not his biological father? Its a possibility my friend!!

Go write your own book and quit this subject if you have this much interest!!
BusinessRe: Robert Kiyosaki: His 'Rich Dad' Does 'Not Exist'? by Aporo: 7:48pm On Aug 02, 2007
My people, lets wake up, move on and not over flog the subject!!

The guys has made good money cashing in on the most pervasive human need "how to make it in business and even in life".

It's a free world and a capitalist one at that!! Go out there and do your thing even write another one , Say "Rich mum, poor mum, lol!! You get my drift!

The fact is nobody is compelled to buy the books or attend the $500 conferences.
