12 DAYS OF PROTESTS AND FAILED LEADERSHIP

A protest that lasted for twelve (12) days is too long? You argue that the protesters had made their points or they ought to have settled for dialogue/negotiations with the government?

Do you realize that the protest was a call for good governance and better living conditions for all Nigerians?

The evils that the #EndSARS protesters dared to confront are deadlier than the Covid-19 Pandemic. At the height of the Covid-19 Pandemic, the entire nation was on lockdown. Did we not sit at home for months?

Bad Governance and leadership are bigger threats to our existence as a nation. Can we count the number of lives lost daily to bad Governance? Twelve (12) days is too long to fight a virus and evil that is deadlier than Covid-19?

Twelve (12) days is too long to demand better living conditions?

For a government that has continued to let down her youths and citizens, 12 days was a distraction, 12 days they would have spent applying for unnecessary loans, looting and laundering public funds.

I bet the recycled Politicians are not happy and afraid that the Nigerian youths have woken up. They are jittery because the issue making the headlines is not about BBNAIJA or the Premier League but #ENDSARS, #ENDBADGOVERNANCE and calls to cut down the allowances of the Nigerian Senators.

Some of them double as former Governors receiving outrageous salaries from multiple sources. These are the same people who are forcing Nigerian University Lecturers to enrol for IPPIS in the guise of checking multiple payments. Their hypocrisy stinks to the heavens.

Without a prior plan, the peaceful protesters showed leadership, resourcefulness and accountability. Rather than offer these protesters protection, the government authorities for reasons best known to them let hoodlums and thugs on the loose.

The Nigerian government could not provide commendable leadership for 12 days, just as they haven’t in decades. The protesters demanded good Governance, they were declared enemies of the state, shot at and killed.

If the curfew imposed by the Lagos State government has achieved anything, it is bloodletting, trauma and negative history; an outcome that underscores a failure of leadership.

I salute the courage and bravery of all the young men and women who put their lives on the line to protest peacefully and demand responsible leadership.

There is a lot that must end in Nigeria;
#ENDSARS
#ENDQUOTASYSTEM
#ENDCORRUPTION
#ENDNEPOTISM
#ENDRECYCLED&FAILEDLEADERS

Most importantly, in the election year (2023), the Nigerian Youths must come out en-masse to vote out recycled leaders who continue to see Nigeria as a cash cow.

May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercies of God rest in Peace.

I knew it will lead to that. After SARS was disbanded, I said the protest should be stopped and we should wait to see what they govt will do afterwards. But some frustrated people on nairaland were attacking me. Miscreants are attacking and frustrating innocent citizens on the streets, raping women, stealing from people shops etc all in the name of protest. . But some cowards are supporting them.
Now that the govt wants to deploy soldiers, I challenge all the noise makers on nairaland to go and protest. Let's see if they will come back and type nonsense..

I understand everyone has a right to free speech and expression. However, I think we should salute everyone despite the risk to their lives, who dare to ask for a better Nigeria not by carrying guns but through a peaceful protest.

The supposed hijack of the protest by thugs and hoodlums is clearly a failure of government. It is not so difficult to differentiate peaceful and unarmed protesters from hoodlums. If the police were out there protecting the protesters, the hoodlums will not have their way.

Labeling peaceful protesters as thugs, hoodlums and criminals is the height of wickedness.

That we do not all have the courage to be on the frontline like the brave and patroitic Nigerians should not be a yardstick to call them names.

Without being told, I can tell that some of these young men and women have had firsthand experience of the evils of the Nigerian government and her representatives. For some of them, to die is better than to live in Nigeria.

You think they should settle for the negotiation table; which negotiation table do you refer? You need to dig deeper to offer a superior advise.

After decades of catastrophic governance, settling for negotiation at this time is a solution? This is clearly the reason why some section of the citizenry are advised to "gbenudake" (keep quite) as things unfold.

Nigeria may not be worth dying for, however, some brave young men and women prefer not to be slaves in the hands of thugs, thieves and hoodlums branded leaders.

The protesters are unarmed, they are not hoodlums, they are Patriots.

Religion / The Role Of The Church In Leadership And Governance by Appswheel(m): 2:37pm On Sep 13, 2020
Matthew 5:14-16

14 "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

‘Corruption has eaten deep into the fabrics of our nation’ is used to describe the menace that has crippled our nation and is now considered ‘normal’. Being corrupt is a way of life in Nigeria; refusing to partake in corrupt behaviour is considered abnormal in today’s Nigeria.

In the Catholic Church, the fourth Sunday after Easter Celebration is referred to as The Good Shepherd Sunday. The Gospel text of the Good Shepherd Sunday is usually taken from the Gospel of John. John 10:11 reads, “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep”. John 10:10 gives an insight about individuals who are not fit to be shepherds, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy...”.

We have too many thieves elected into leadership positions in Nigeria. Given that these leaders are mostly Christians and Muslims by faith, the leadership of these religious bodies need to set up a framework to call their members who occupy leadership positions to account.

Christians are often advised to ask the question “What would Jesus do?” in any situation they find themselves. Pastors, Priest and Church leaders need to answer the same question today.

This article is my reflection to the questions, “What would Jesus Do?”, “What would Apostle Paul do?” if they were to be alive as Nigerians at this time. What would Jesus do to call members of his flock who participate in governance to order and account?

For the Christians, the leadership of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN) must take the lead and responsibility of creating a framework for her members to adopt.

The word “governance” is derived from the Latin verb “gubernare” or more originally from the Greek word “kubernaein” which means “to steer.” From its etymology, governance refers to the manner of steering or governing, or of directing and controlling, a group of people or a state.

Governance refers to structures and processes that are designed to ensure accountability, transparency, responsiveness, rule of law, stability, equity, inclusiveness, empowerment, and broad-based participation. It assures that corruption is minimized, the views of minorities are taken into account and that the voices of the most vulnerable in the society are heard in decision-making. It is also responsive to the present and future needs of society.

Leadership is a critical ingredient of good governance. The effect of a great leader is transformational, the ability to bring out the best in others for the greater good of all. Leaders instill a sense of moral and social responsibility into their every activity and help build communities of common ideas and ideologies. Leadership is leading from the front.

How can the Church help to rescue Nigerians from poor leadership? My suggestions are the following:

1. Every Church should set up a Leadership/Accountability Unit. One of their responsibilities will include keeping track of members who occupy leadership position with a view to monitoring their activities and contributions while providing reports to the church leadership and recommending these individuals for commendation or retribution.

2. Churches should organize bi-yearly Governance/Leadership retreats for their members who occupy leadership position. Attendance should be made compulsory and attendees should be made to give an account of their performance in office.

3. Church leaders should regularly write commendation or retribution letters to their members who occupy leadership position.

4. Serving public leaders should not be invited to launching events as Chief Launcher or other related titles that will put pressure on them to donate huge sums of money to the church

5. Special seats or recognition should not be accorded any church member because they occupy a public office

Not minding the passage of the Freedom of Information Bill (FoI), certain information that is important to civil societies and members of the public are kept secret. This information should be obtained from representatives who are members of the body of Christ. Isn’t this what being Christ-like is about?

Church leaders must not fail to remind their flocks, particularly those occupying leadership position, about their responsibility to be the light of the world, to bear good fruits. In describing the Good Shepherd in John 10, Jesus paints the picture of leaders who care deeply for those entrusted to their care, whose actions are sacrificial and not selfish.

The Church cannot afford to look away anymore. The time has come for the Church to wage war against her members who occupy leadership roles and bear evil fruits or no fruits. If need be, the church should excommunicate those who refuse to repent from their evil ways.

There has been too much darkness in our public institutions that one wonders if there are no Children of God there to shine the light of Christ. The body of Christ undoubtedly has a role to play in salvaging the catastrophic leadership situation that is the bane of the Nigerian nation.
Politics / Re: What's Exactly Stopping Nigeria From Having 24/7 Electricity? by Appswheel(m): 5:16pm On Sep 06, 2020

What exactly do nigerians need power for ? Where are the so called industries ? When ever you hear people shout "up nepa" the next you will hear is them don bring light make i go house. Is there any factory inside thier homes ? Its film they want to go and watch. I've seen children of school age saying "up nepa, make i go house" and i ask them what do you want go do with the light the response is always: make i go watch film na. In our days when u hear "up nepa" , you see siblings trying to out run each other to iron their school uniforms. You see neighbours who have no electric iron rushing to borrow pressing iron from any where. But these days its film , bb9ja and the rest. Most can't re call when last they iron their cloths such a shame of a people
I am trying to understand your comment. It's quite naive and innocent.

Stable electricity will play an important role in attracting investors to critical areas of the economy.

Not minding what you think, there are millions of SMEs that depends on electricity to deliver their products and services.

Agree or Not, stable electric will put Nigeria on the path of growth. And birth new industries.
