Arabiandude: Rangers’ Aribo needs time to adjust to African football – Super Eagles legend Taribo West
Despite top-notch performances from the 23-year-old for the West Africans, the ex-international feels the midfielder has not done enough.
Former Nigeria international Taribo West believes Rangers star Joe Aribo needs time to adjust to the playing style of African football.
The 23-year-old made an impressive start to his Super Eagles career when he scored on his debut against Ukraine in September 2019.
He followed that up with another impressive performance a month later in another friendly against Brazil, helping Gernot Rohr’s men clinch a 1-1 draw against the five-time world champions.
Aribo has now made four appearances for the three-time African champions and has been praised for his immediate impact with the national team by fans and former internationals.
West, however, feels the midfielder has not done enough and believes Getafe’s midfielder Oghenekaro Etebo, who is currently on loan from Stoke City to reignite his career, will perform better than him.
"I've watched Joe Aribo play for Nigeria, but in my view, it's clear he is yet to come to terms with it,” Taribo was quoted as saying by the Scottish Sun.
"There's no other way of putting this - I think Joe is not a bad player, but he needs time to adjust to African football.
"It's not the same as playing in Europe. In Africa, there's no time on the ball and for me, Oghenekaro Etebo is a far better option, He's quick, physical and reads the game.
"He should get Joe Aribo's spot when he comes back. African football is just too physical for Joe."
Besides his scintillating displays for the Super Eagles, Aribo has been delivering fine performances for Rangers under Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.
The midfielder, who joined the Ibrox Stadium outfit last summer, was a key member of the Gers in the recently-concluded campaign, scoring eight goals and providing eight assists in 45 appearances.
Taribo retired from international duty in 2005, thus, ending his 11-year career with the Super Eagles and enjoyed success during his time.
He was part of Nigeria’s gold-medal winning team at the 1996 Olympics and also helped the Super Eagles finish as runners-up in the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations.
The centre-back, who had 42 caps for the three-time African champions, played in the 1998 World Cup in France as well as the 2002 edition.
Taribo, now a pastor, also starred for InterMilan, AC Milan, Auxerre and Plymouth Argyle among others before he quit professional football in 2008. All these ex international don start again, e come still be pastor join. Someone should please help me ask Taribo which Aribo he is talking about, when Etebo started having vision and which Aribo hasn't done well for the SE? |

charlesemeka85: the attack minded players we can boast of are from the flanks. for tiki taka to be implemented perfectly we need ball playing centre backs and dm midfielder with a highly skilled and technical CAMs which will bring out the desired output of our attackers
in our defense line the 2 decent ball players are aina and ajayi which is the reason i clamor for the inclusion of adarabioyo in the team. ndidi is best at what he does best which is breaking attacks and covering grounds, etebo is not technically sound and skilled. the likes of aribo, ejaria and iwobi are not yet in the class to master and perfect system well Oga, it's non skillful players that can't play attacking football but gets their jobs on the pitch done, e.g Dele Alli. Ejeria, Eze, Iwobi, Aribo can all play attacking football. And who said attacking football means tiki taka? Does Liverpool plays tiki taka? |

charlesemeka85: and you are comparing pep's barca to the super eagles okwa ya? continue It's a comparison on how a style of play best suit us and not players comparison. Presently the SE has more attack minded and good goalscorers than defenders, so playing defensive games right now won't benefit us because our defense isn't strong enough to absorb the pressures that will come from top class strickers (we must concede). But if we go attacking, there is no defence in the world currently that our fast, skillful and aggressive attackers can't break. And who says we can't do mass attack and mass defence? Don't forget our 2 u17 that recently won fifa U17 world cups both played attacking games. The best way to defend is to attack. |

komekn: What is genuine talent and what is fake talent please ❓ Talent is simply potential to be developed and released.
There are many players with talent but developing that talent technically with football intelligence becomes another thing
There are boys in the top academies of the EPL at age 9/10 you will be very surprised at the level of technical coaching. It gives these boys excellent first touch and awareness.
Do you know that most Nigerian players have a huge learning curve to overcome. A learning curve that talent alone will not enable you overcome. But discipline, diligence, aptitude and pray for patient coaches. Because the one thing you don't have is a lot of time.
Modern football is not just dribbling and doing skills it's gone far beyond that now.
A big club can expose the gaps in your attributes and capacity that raw talent has covered in lower clubs and leagues for many years. Fake talent is what 99% of English players, unlike Brazilians, Germans, Spanish, Italians, Argentines, even Portuguese |

komekn: Raheem was bought by Liverpool for near £2million are age 14 from QPR.
He was already leading the attack at Liverpool as an 18 year old before he went to City. He has as always progressed and he progressed under Guardiola.
Many a player get to big clubs and can't progress. To believe that at a time Jordan Ibe was competing with Raheem.
Now Ibe is a mere shadow of past glories albeit a very well paid one.
That proposition with regards to Chukwueze and Ejuke is optimistic speculation. These are 2 players with genuine talent and with a good coach in a big club, their talents will explode, just like Ferguson did with Ronaldo. And for Ibe case, he was good at that moment but not talented, he was playing the normal British style of wingers, e.g write Phillip, lenon, etc, so I am not surprise that he retrogress...and it's same thing that's happening to Dele Alli right now. If Chukwueze and Ejuke goes to a big club with good coaches and they fail to explode, then it would simply be because they refuse to work harder and not because they aren't super talented because in today's football, just talent is no longer enough |

Former Valencia and coach of the national team of Egypt Hector Cuper was hoping to succeed the coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr if his contract extension with the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) had not gone according to plan. Cuper according to his Egyptian assistant Mahmoud Ahmed was interested in the Super Eagles job and that of the national team of Ghana as he was still keen on working in Africa after his spell with Egypt. Cuper has done well for himself in his coaching career but 2 things that I found out about him. 1. He doesn't stay long in a job, either club or country...the highest he has stayed was 3 years or so. 2. He doesn't win finals. He has gotten to more than 10 finals in his career and never won any. He is the same coach that took Valencia to 2 champions league finals, losing to both Madrid and Bayern, both on penalties. (Bad luck. What's with Argentina/Argentinean with badluck). He is the coach that also took Egypt to the Afcon final, losing to Cameroon(always losing finals)

charlesemeka85: Nigerians re obsessed with attacking football even if we dey play against Germany, Brazil or netherland of this world. Mostly pple wey dey cry for the team to play that way na lay men in the game like me who knows nada about football tactics
The same attacking brand siasia deployed in the 23 teams and super eagles where his team will score 6 and concede 5 in a game Guardiola was playing attacking football at Barca and he was conceeding less than those playing DF. Guardiola and Klop both plays AF at Man City and Liverpool and they both concede lesser goals compares to other English teams that plays DF. Playing AF doesn't equates to conceding more if your tactics is good. Play attacking football and keep the ball, your opponent won't even see the ball not to talk of scoring you |

Except Rohr would change from his 2 DMs to 1 DM with more attack minded tactics, mostly when playing lesser or teams on same level with the SE |

Personal Opinion! I have watched matches and also watch best of YouTube clips of these Nigeria players and my conclusion is... Ejuke dribbles better than Kalu, Onyekuru and Simon. Ejuke has pace more than Kalu and Simon, he is on the same level with Onyekuru on this. Ejuke shoots outside more than the other 3. Ejuke have eyes for assist more than the other 3, just that most of his final passes are wasted by his teammates. Simon, Onyekuru and Kalu seems more furnished than Ejuke.
Conclusion.. though Ejuke is playing for a lesser league compared to Kalu and Simon, but I believe we have a player like Sterling for the SE in the next few years. Just put him in a better club with a good coach, same way guardiola furnished Sterling and we will see a winger who will be contributing atleast 15 league goals a season. This same analogy applies to Chukwueze |

Arabiandude: Ramos is my idol' - Leixoes SC’s Aneni on Real Madrid great
The Portugal-based Nigerian teenager has described the four-time Champions League winner as his role model while hoping to emulate him someday
Leixoes SC and Nigeria U20 starlet Evans Aneni has named Sergio Ramos as his idol, while hoping to emulate the Spanish football icon.
The 19-year-old has been tipped to become one of the world’s sought-after centre-backs in future owing to his defensive skills.
Aneni, having risen through the ranks at his Portuguese outfit and has been a key figure in the Sea Heroes’ U23 squad.
Before football was put on a hiatus owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the Nigeria youth international featured in every game for Leixoes – putting up several man-of-the-match showings.
In a chat with Goal, the teenager says he has always looked up to the Real Madrid captain as a source of inspiration.
“Since I began playing football, I have always looked to just one person for inspiration and he is Sergio Ramos,” Aneni told Goal.
“He is one of my favourite players in my position and his never-say-die attitude and charisma on the field of play are what thrill me as I continue to develop as a footballer.
“In addition, you have to be very intelligent as a striker for you to beat him. At my leisure time, I watch his video and learn one or two things from him.
“Although, I have other defenders who I learn from but Ramos is my idol and one day I hope to be like him.”
He was part of Paul Aigbogun’s Nigeria U20 team for the 2019 U20 Fifa World Cup, but, he failed to make the cut owing to a late fitness issue.
With several top European teams gunning for his signature, he claims he is not in a rush for a move while stating it would be a dream playing for Premier League outfit Chelsea in future.
“I am still developing here and I am not in a rush to move. When the time is ripe, I definitely settle for less,” he continued.
“I have been supporting Chelsea as a kid and someday, I hope to play for them because they are one of my favourites.
“Well, I can’t wait for that to happen because playing for them will be a dream come true for me.”
Aneni is expected to form the fulcrum of the new Nigeria U20 squad hoping to qualify for the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations billed for Mauritania, which serves as qualifiers for the U20 World Cup in Indonesia.
