Just three days after commissioning, the just completed Erejuwa Street, in Ilaje, Makoko, Yaba, has been completely submerged under water from a nearby canal. This was as a result of the poor drainage system constructed by the road contractor. The road which is one of the contracted 114 Local Government Roads project by the State Government was commissioned on Monday, September 19, 2016 by Hon Kazeem Ademola Alimi on behalf of the State Government. A visit by InsideMainland correspondent to the community few hours after the commissioning revealed that parts of the 370-meters long road was hastily done by the contractor in order to beat the deadline day for the commissioning. The road which was constructed by Engineer Ademola Bolaji led Hansmag (Nig) Ltd was slated to be completed for six months. However, according to residents, it took the contractor over eight months to complete the road before it was commissioned. Speaking on the development, the Baale of the Ilaje Makoko Community, Chief Samuel Adebowale Abo-Oluwa Erejuwa told InsideMainland in an earlier chat, that the contractor had begged the community leaders to allow him block the canal by the roadside to prevent water from flowing to the newly constructed road during the commissioning ceremony. "The road contractor met with us and pleaded that he block a part of the road to prevent water from spilling on the road. He also gave his word that he will ensure the road was fixed after the commissioning because the government has already planned to send officials down to proceed with the process." "We were shocked when the contractor told us after the commissioning that he was done with his job back here. He also denied telling us he will ensure the road is properly done and the parts that needed attention is sorted out. The contractor only fixed 200 meters and rushed to complete the other 170 meters because he wanted to meet the deadline. We beg the government to come to our aid and ensure the contractor is held responsible for what he has done here," he added. Another resident identified as Optimum Adewale disclosed to InsideMainland that he almost prevented the government officials from commissioning the road as he predicted the contractor will do a shoddy job. "I complained bitterly to the contractor that he was doing a shoddy job but he reported me to the police that I threatened to stop his workers from .... read more of the shocking post and see more photos here http://insidemainland.com/2016/09/22/lasg-just-commission-horribly-constructed-road-check-unbelievable-pictures-3-days-official-commissioning-makoko/

The residents of Agiliti Phase II in the Mile 12 axis of Lagos have appealed to the government to come to their aid owing to the complete flooding of the area. The recent case of flooding happened over the weekend in the area and a recent visit to the community shows the difficulty faced by residents owing to the magnitude of water. Residents and road users have resorted to plying the Olaosebikan Street in Agiliti Phase II with their trousers rolled up to knee-length. The women on the other hand have their wrappers in their hands while they battle to cross the completely flooded road. What is also surprising is that some residents have adopted to wear shorts from their various homes and stop by at a spot close by Foursquare Church on Olaosebikan Street to change into new attires before going by their daily activities. Speaking to InsideMainland, an official of the Ola-Oluwa Agiliti CDA Group, Mr. Olusegun Odupitan disclosed that “the last time we witnessed flooding in this area was in 2014. The area usually becomes flooded every three to four years because the water comes from the canal anytime the government releases water from the dam. The canal gets blocked and the water spills into different parts of the area.” When asked of the effect of the flood on lives and properties, Odupitan said, “the flood this year is not much compared to the one we experienced in 2011. That year, we had some house owners leave their houses to find shelter elsewhere because of the enormity of water. Following the ongoing official commissioning of the 114 Road Project across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode has warned residents to resist the temptation of converting the roads to trading points and parking lots. Ambode made the appeal at the continuation of the commissioning of the 114 roads built by his administration across the 20 Local Governments and 37 Local council Development Areas. Earlier today, the LASG commissioning team continued the process across Lagos. The team commissioned the Ojediran Shopitan and Taiwo Molajo streets both in Ikorodu West LCDA. While addressing attendees at the event, the Governor who was represented by Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Bashorun noted that his government would not relent on its promise of an all-inclusive government, boosting economic activities in the state, as well as guaranteeing safety of lives and properties of residents. However, the representative lamented that some landlords in the state .. read more here http://insidemainland.com/2016/09/20/ambode-warns-converting-newly-constructed-roads-trading-points-parking-lots/

Over the weekend, the Lagos State Government commenced the official commissioning of the 114 Roads project constructed across 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the State. However, it appears there is no solace in sight for residents of Coker-Aguda, Lagos owing to the difficulties experienced using roads in the area. When InsideMainland visited the community, it was discovered that roads in the area requires urgent attention to ensure it fits the plans of Lagos morphing into a true mega city. The Adetola, Adegunwa, Ayo Elegbede, Adefowope and Solola streets in Coker-Aguda are in terrible shape and causes residents and road users lots of trouble as they ply the routes daily. The different pot holes on the roads also cause regular traffic gridlock for commuters on a daily basis. InsideMainland gathered from a shop owner on Adetola Street, Mr. John Ikechukwu that when it rains, the road becomes a complete nightmare for commuters. “We can’t use the road if it rains continuously for days because of how bad it is. Some parts will be completely flooded when water from the gutters spills on the road.” To Mutiu, an Okada rider who operates from the unit close to the Conoil Filling Station on Adetola Street, the residents alongside ... read more here http://insidemainland.com/2016/09/20/114-roads-project-coker-aguda-next-line/
