There's A Cheaper Version Of Alexander Amosu's £1.2m Champagne

It now makes sense. I for talk since. Who gives away a £1.2m bottle of champagne or anything for that matter...just like that? Luxury designer Alexander Amosu has cleared the confusion. He took to his instagram page to explain that there's a Swarovski diamond edition of his Taste of Diamond champagne. The diamond encrusted bottle is worth £1.2m, while the Swarovski version is just £350.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio, met behind closed doors in Abuja on Thursday to deliberate on the polarisation of the Peoples Democratic Party governors.

It was gathered that at the meeting, Akpabio also solicited Obasanjo’s support for President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term bid in 2015.

Akpabio, who chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, was said to have used the opportunity of the meeting which was attended by a PDP chieftain, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, to solicit for the intervention of the former President in ending the differences among the governors.


He was said to have told Obasanjo that the ongoing acrimony among the governors was not good for the image of the PDP and its determination to win the 2015 presidential election.

Since the conduct of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum election, which was won by Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, the PDP governors have continued to exchange hot words on the pages of newspapers.

While those who supported Amaechi’s opponent , Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State, have continued to accuse those in the other camp of betrayal, supporters of the winner said it was victory for democracy.

The outcome of the election had resorted in the NGF having two secretariats.

Also, some of the governors, like Sule Lamido of Jigawa State, have warned that winning the PDP presidential primary by Jonathan would not be a guarantee that he would triumph during the presidential election.

Lamido, who is known to be very close to Obasanjo, is one of the four governors from the northern region that visited Amaechi in Port Harcourt on Tuesday. The others were Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano); Babangida Aliyu (Niger); and Murtala Nyako (Adamawa).

At the meeting, Obasanjo was said to have listened with rapt attention when Akpabio solicited his intervention to smoothen the relationship between the President and the governors.

Though the former President was said not to have made any commitment, it was gathered that Akpabio was working towards bringing Obasanjo and Jonathan to come together and discuss.

Akpabio, who is also close to the former President, was said to have expressed his worry on how the former President had distanced himself from the activities of the PDP.

A source privy to the meeting which held at Hilton Hotel said, “It was a brief meeting, where the former President listened with rapt attention as Akpabio spoke. But unexpectedly, he did not make any commitment. But I think that President Jonathan would want to meet with the former President.”

Obasanjo was said to have immediately left for Zimbabwe after the meeting while Fasawe went to the headquarters of the PDP for a discussion with the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur.

Fasawe confirmed the meeting but declined to give details.

“But you know my relationship with Chief Obasanjo,” was the answer he gave when asked to speak on issues that were discussed at the Hilton Hotel meeting.

Meanwhile, members of the National Working Committee of the PDP have been asked not to turn Anambra State into an “oil well” during the forthcoming governorship election in state.

The PDP stakeholders in the state, who stated this at a meeting they had with the leadership of the party at its headquarters, called for transparency in the conduct of the primary.

The meeting was held as part of preparations for the November 16 governorship election in the state.

The stakeholders were drawn from groups within the party in the state.

Among those who spoke at the meeting were a former Governor of the state, Chief Chinwoke Mbadinuju; a former Chairman of Police Service Commission, Chief Simeon Okeke; a former Minister of Health, Prof. A.B.C. Nwosu; a governorship aspirant, Prince Nicolas Ukachukwu, and Mrs. Bridget Obi.

Obi said, “It is only in Anambra State that primaries are held in three different hotels and results would not be announced until they get to a police station.

“My plea is that, please don’t make Anambra your new oil well. Resist temptations in order to succeed.”

The meeting resolved that all members of the state PDP would work in unity to ensure victory for the party during the election.

They also said that all those who have cases in court should withdraw them failing which the party would take severe disciplinary measures against them.

While they said that no member of the party in the state shall institute any suit on any matter affecting the conduct of the forthcoming congresses and primary election for the November governorship election, they however warned that the PDP must not be partial during the polls.

The price of kerosene has risen by about 200 per cent in Lagos, Ogun states and other parts of the country largely due to the scarcity of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas).

Though the official price of kerosene is N50 per litre, most marketers and retailers (with the exception of filling stations owned by Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation) have, before now, sold it at N100 per litre.

Checks by our correspondent on Friday, however, revealed that a litre of kerosene was being sold at N150, amounting to a 200 per cent increase over the official price of N50.

A five litre gallon of kerosene, which should be sold at N250 official price but was selling at N500, has now increased to N750, according to findings by our correspondent.

On why most marketers don’t sell kerosene at the official rate, a source at the Major Marketers Association of Nigeria, who asked not to be named, said, “NNPC is supposed to be selling kerosene at N40.90k per lie but marketers will have to part with some money. At least N30 per litre will be paid to government officials.

“This payment will entitle such a marketer to get the pro forma invoice. You will then hire a ship, incur the cost of the ship, storage and operational cost. That is why kerosene cannot be sold at N50, the control price.”

Experts had also argued that the increase in kerosene price would increase further if the cooking gas scarcity caused by the faceoff between Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas Limited and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency was not resolved.

NIMASA had since June 21 barred NLNG cargoes from entering or leaving the loading bay at the Bonny Terminal in the Niger Delta region over non-payment of $158m levies.

The President, Nigeria LP Gas Association, Mr. Dayo Adeshina, said this had prevented the 9,000 tonne vessel (Gas Providence), which supplies liquid petroleum gas to the domestic market, from sailing and discharging products in Lagos.

He said this had subsequently led to an unprecedented scarcity of cooking gas in the country and expressed concerns that kerosene retailers could take advantage of the scarcity and increase their prices.

Analysts expect that many cooking gas consumers will naturally switch over to kerosene when they can neither find nor afford cooking gas, which has become very scarce.

The NLPGA president further noted cooking gas was no longer available at depots owned by the Pipeline and Products Marketing Company, Navgas and possibly NIPCO due to the NLNG/NIMASA feud.

Because the NLNG supplies 98 per cent of the cooking gas consumed in Nigeria, Adeshina lamented that the NIMASA blockade had led to scarcity of cooking gas across the country.

The prices, he reiterated, had gone up with a 12.5kg cylinder of gas selling between N4,000 and N5,000 in Lagos and N6,000 in Abuja. It was sold for N2,800 before the crisis.

He said, “None of the storage in Lagos has any cooking gas in their tanks. The situation started two weeks ago when the Bonny channel was blocked by NIMASA. Gas Providence, which supplies LPG to Lagos is being detained even when the owners have gone ahead to pay the statutory levies to NIMASA.”

The NLPGA boss wondered why NIMASA had continued to detain Gas Providence, the LPG vessel, even after its owners had paid the required statutory levies.

In view of hard times being experienced by consumers, Adeshina called on the Federal Government, National Assembly and other concerned stakeholders to wade into the matter so that the gas laden vessel meant for the domestic market would be allowed to sail.

He said, “We are calling on all the stakeholders involved to resolve the matter. This is affecting everybody because we need to cook. We cannot go back to the days of using firewood for cooking. Even if we decide to embark on importation, it will take about 25 days for the vessel to get to Lagos.

“The ongoing cooking gas scarcity is not due to hoarding or sabotage but as a result of continuous detention of the vessel that is meant to supply gas to Lagos.”

NLPGA Treasurer, Mr. Felix Ekundayo, warned that if nothing was done before the weekend ran out, the multiplier effect would be serious and the masses would be the most affected.

According to him, the only cooking supply into the country is coming from a refinery in Niger Republic and it is very insignificant because the refinery itself can only do three trucks of LPG per day.

NLPGA’s Deputy President, Mr. Nunu Yakubu, who corroborated this, said, “We don’t want it to appear as if we are giving legitimacy to the cooking gas from Niger because the gas has pressure issue.

“The Gas Providence has paid the statutory fees and since regulation does not allow us to import cooking gas and there is no alternative, the only solution is to allow the vessel laden with gas to sail into Lagos.”

Although there were reports on Friday that the NNLG had agreed to pay the accumulated tax levies to NIMASA to pave the way for the resolution of the dispute, experts noted that it could take about a week for the gas scarcity to ease up.

Some succour came the way of the family of deceased highlife musician, Fatai Olayiwola Olagunju, when the management of Daily Needs Industries Limited donated N500,000 for his children’s education.

The artiste popularly called Rolling Dollars, who died at the age of 86 on June 12, 2013, was an ambassador to the makers of De-Deon’s Syrup.

In a statement, the company’s management notes that the gesture is a furtherance of the robust relationship between the late musician and it as he was Daily Needs’ brand ambassador for five years.

“To us at Daily Needs, we are ever concerned about family healthcare, children’s future and education. This is what informed the management’s decision to donate the N500,000 cash to support the scholarship of the bereaved younger children of the late Fatai Rolling Dollar. It is our belief that this will help in supporting the immediate educational needs of the children,” says the company’s Marketing Manager, Sola Adeyi.

A widow of the late artiste, Mrs. Zaynab Olagunju, said to have received the donation on behalf of the children, is also said to have prayed for the success for the staff and management of the organisation.

“She promised that the donation would go a long way in settling the children’s immediate education expenses,” the statement indicates.

Flight star Denzel Washington has been married for 30 years, but despite a seemingly idillic relationship with his wife, he is now caught up in a cheating scandal as photographs of Denzel apparently with and kissing another woman are being shopped, RadarOnline.com has learned exclusively.

Denzel, 58, and his wife Pauletta, 62, recently did an interview with Ebony magazine giving what what called a “rare portrait” into “one of Hollywood’s longest running couples.”

But several photos that have been shopped to various media outlets appear to show Denzel with another woman and kissing her on the lips, in what appears to be a passionate moment.

Those photos are a stark contrast to what his wife Pauletta recently told Ebony.

“I live with this man. I see the down part. I see the sad part. I see every part,” Pauletta told the magazine.

“He has and knows he has stability in me as his wife. That’s what gives him strength, regardless if he misuses it. I can’t dwell on that. But I do know that gives him a great platform to go and fly.”

Four photographs, seen by Radar and shopped to other media outlets, show him sitting on a couch with a young lady, and then throughout the series of pictures he grabs her arm and pulls her in for a kiss on the lips in one. The woman is not identified and Radar was not able to verify the authenticity of the photographs.

Well, they can shop all they want. Pauletta has made it clear she's never going to leave Denzel.

In a press conference that held yesterday, OJB said:

As we get closer to the 2015 landmark elections in Nigeria, the gubernatorial race in Akwa Ibom State is getting hotter for the current Secretary to the State Government, Mr Umana Okon Umana, who until now had boasted that he held all the aces. Recent reports reaching us show that more people are contesting the “it is my turn” attitude with which the man has carried himself in the past couple of years. By the end of last week, there were at least four heavyweight names being mentioned in connection with interest in occupying the Government House in Uyo come 2015.

On the list is Senator Helen Esuene, a former Minister in former President Obasanjos’ administration and current Senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial district of the state is one of the candidates who now pose a threat to Umana’s ambition. Esuene is said to have started consultations with political leaders in the state over her ambition, although some observers believe that age is not on the side of the former First Lady of the South-Eastern state.


Another potential candidate for the 2015 gubernatorial slot in the state is two-time Senator Udoma Udo Udoma. A popular legal practitioner and politician, Udo Udoma is believed to be well-connected at the presidency, a factor which a lot of people assume may work in his favour. Another former member of the National Assembly who has been named to have interest in the governorship seat is Senator Effiong Bob. Bob, who is from the same local government area as Umana is rumoured to have been stopped from returning to the Senate for the third time in 2011 because of the opposition to his candidature by his kinsman, Umana”. We learnt that the ebullient former lawmaker may soon announce his intention to join the 2015 fray even if just to stand in the way of the SSG.

Another person whose interest in stepping into the shoes of the incumbent Governor Godswill Akpabio is evident is Bishop Samuel Akpan. Akpan, who is also believed to enjoy a good relationship with Governor Akpabio is currently the chairman of Akwa Ibom State Road Maintenance Agency. He is believed to be a force capable of upsetting whatever calculations Umana might have made towards being the only one eligible to picking up the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party for the 2015 gubernatorial race.

Although the names listed above are capable of turning the table against the ambition of Mr Umana Okon Umana, “it is even too early now to assume that many more people, who will even be more formidable than the man will not come up as we move closer to the elections.
