TV/MoviesRita Dominic On The Nick Of Time by ASANIGBO(op): 5:30am On Oct 30, 2011
Over a decade ago, Rita Dominic was a wannabe star. At a meeting over a decade ago, she told this reporter that she wanted to be all she could be. Shortly after, Rita emerged from the lot to become a bona fide star. A star whose stardom transcends the shores of this country; and ever since Rita has maintained this status and still evolving.

Rita caught the attention of many when she was constantly paired with Jim Iyke in many love movies. She moved on to emerge a stylish star; doting the cover of movie jackets. For many, that was all there was to it and would ever be; but she went on become one of the stars, who telecommunication giant, Globacom, picked for its corporate endorsement.

Recently, Rita announced the birth of her company, Audrey-Silva Company, an entertainment firm with bias for movie production, and hinted about a book on her, saying she would soon start production of her movie.
Some took her seriously, while others believed it was business as usual. But exactly two weeks ago, Rita and her manager, Mildred Okwo, hit Ikeja to shoot a movie.

Being on location as an actress, for Rita, is nothing new, but this particular production comes with new callings. For the first time, Rita is producing a movie and is also investing her money in it. That makes her a general with three stars on the location - an executive producer, producer and actress. This is the first time Rita would be making such bold move, and for those who have followed her career since 13 years ago, Rita is just on the nick of time. Nick of time in the sense that it is high time she raised the ante, and since beginning of the year, the UNIPORT graduate has not slowed down. She was on Izu Ojukwu set for an epic, and talk has it that her role in Kenya, from where she recently returned, is mind-blowing. Now, she is crowning her efforts this year with a movie production and is sparing no cost.

“I intend to get it very right,” she said when we visited location of the movie being shot with RED by a Briton, Jim Bishop, who boasts of over 18 years’ experience in the field. Will Rita make the best of it? Time will tell.
The movie’s storyline
On a Monday morning, Makinde Esho (Femi Jacobs), a corporate executive at Techmast Nigeria Limited, flies into Abuja to have an important 9:30 a.m. meeting with the Honourable Minster of Land Resources. Mr. Esho’s mission is to secure a government authorization to build a mast sub-station and return to Lagos on the afternoon flight. There is a lot riding on this authorization as it will save Techmast from imminent liquidation and EFCC investigations.
Upon arriving Abuja, Esho assists a female youth corps member, Ejura (Linda Ejiofor), by giving her a lift into the city from the airport. During the ride, Makinde takes a call from his only daughter, Kikelomo (Kehinde Bankole), who is graduating from the university that Friday. She is fretting over her preparations for the big day.

Makinde is ignorant of how difficult it would be to see the minister until he meets Clara (Rita Dominic), the impenetrable receptionist, and a cast of other characters in the minister’s reception room. Clara informs Makinde that his appointment has been pushed to the afternoon. Our protagonist is forced to kill time in the minister’s reception room only to be bumped off the appointment list again.

The MD of Techmast is furious and orders Makinde to stay in Abuja until he gets the authorization or risk losing his job. Though unprepared, Makinde stays and for the next few days he is continually bumped off by a series of incidents, some inadvertent and others orchestrated by the minister’s powerful receptionist. Every evening, he meets with Ejura, who introduces him to Abuja and for the first time since his wife died, Makinde finds himself letting his heart go.

Having to deal with the receptionist’s antics, pressures from his boss and constant calls from his daughter, Makinde struggles to complete his Abuja mission and return to Lagos on time. But, will he make it?

PoliticsNgige Floors Akunyili Again •as Tribunal Strikes Out Petition •we’ll Appeal by ASANIGBO(op): 5:32am On Oct 21, 2011
Justice Onajite Kuejubola-led Election Petition Tribunal (Panel I) sitting in Awka, Anambra State yesterday struck out the petition of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and its candidate in the Anambra Central Senatorial District, Prof. Dora Akunyili.

Ruling on the application by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC’s) counsel, Osita Nnadi (SAN) for the dismissal or striking out of the petition on the ground that the petitioners failed to file Form TF008, the tribunal held that the Form TF008 purported to have been filed by the petitioner was a worthless document.

Form TF008 contains list of questions that one must answer as a party in an election petition, which answers guide the tribunal during the pre-hearing session. The tribunal, yesterday held that by the petitioner not filing the Form TF008, it had no jurisdiction to further continue with the matter because it lacked the document with which to conduct the pre-hearing.

It, therefore, declared as nullity, all the pre-hearing sessions it had conducted so far in the matter because of the failure to file Form TF008 and struck out the petition. On the application of Ngige’s lead counsel, Chief Emeka Ngige (SAN) for an order to invite the Inspector-General of Police (IG) or the Director-General (DG), State Security Service (SSS) to investigate the genuineness or otherwise of the Form TF008 purported to have been filed by the petitioner, the tribunal declined but stated that the first respondent was at liberty to call the Police and ask them to investigate the document.
Reacting to the judgment, the petitioner’s counsel, Obiora Obianwu (SAN) said they were going to challenge the judgment at the Court of Appeal.

He was corroborated by Prof. Akunyili, who confirmed yesterday that they were going to appeal against the tribunal’s judgment. Also reacting, Ngige told Daily Sun that, “the fraud aspect is for INEC and the court to push if we’re following due process and applying the rule of law. For me, the truth will always prevail.” But explaining in detail what actually transpired, Chief Ngige (SAN), who noted that he was not surprised at the judgment, as he had been expecting the petition to be dismissed all along, said, “when the pleadings were completed, all the respondents filed their Form TF008 and served, the petitioners did not file. We did not realize that they did not file until the matter came back before a new panel,” that is Justice Kuejubola-led panel.

“When we were before the previous panel of Justice Bwala, we didn’t know that, that document was not served, so it was upon search of the file that it was discovered that Form TF008 was not filed and there is a provision in the Electoral Act that where a party is unprepared to follow up his or her petition, then the tribunal, upon an application of any of the parties or even acting on its own, can dismiss or strike out the petition for non-seriousness of the petitioner.

“And any decision given, dismissing or striking out that petition is final and cannot be set aside. So, that was the basis of the application by INEC, that the petitioners in this present case did not file Form TF008.

PoliticsExplosion Rocks Shinkafi, Gen Onoja’s Homes • We Are Investigating –igp by ASANIGBO(op): 12:38am On Oct 15, 2011
The Federal Capital Territory, Abuja Thursday evening witnessed another explosion, as three buildings, in the highbrow Maitama District were partially damaged.

In the explosion, residences of General Lawrence Onoja, a former Principal General Staff Officer (PGSO) to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha and ex-director general of the defunct National Security Organisation (NSO), Alhaji Umaru Ali Shinkafi, on Lahn Crescent, Maitama District, Abuja, were affected. The third building affected is located at No.3 of the street, which is barely 500 metres away from the official residence of the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Hafiz Ringim.

Expectedly, the incident created panic among residents and security agents within the vicinity where the official residences of some ambassadors and heads of foreign missions are also situated, as people scampered for safety amid fears that the dreaded, Boko Haram, might have struck again.

Confirming the incident, in a telephone chat, Ringim said it was an explosion and not a bomb blast. Residents of the area also told Saturday Sun, when our reporter visited the scene at 2.30pm yesterday, that it was an explosion.
According to Ringim, “it’s true that there was an explosion, but it wasn’t a bomb. What happened was that the owner of the plot had contracted a construction company to build a structure for him, and in the course of doing the job, the workers used explosives to blast stones, which caused the destruction. Police are investigating the incident to determine how they came about the explosives.”

When Saturday Sun visited the residence of General Onoja, who was also a former military governor of Katsina and Plateau states, red mud covered the entire compound, just as the roof of his building was partially ripped open.
Also, the front and rear windscreens of a sleek Mercedes Benz car, with registration number Abuja CF 476 ABJ, were completely shattered.

A resident, who pleaded anonymity, said the was car was parked at the periphery of the fence behind the retired army officer’s residence, but was pushed to the front, close to the security post, by the impact of the blast, which occurred directly behind his building.
Investigation revealed that the worst hit was House No. 3 Lahn Crescent, which had its roof almost totally damaged. No fewer than 10 persons were seen fixing the damaged roofs and other parts of some of the affected buildings yesterday.
General Onoja, who was seen at his residence trying to put things together, declined comments.

CelebritiesFinally: "i Will Never Get Married" - Tuface Idibia by ASANIGBO(op): 3:27am On Oct 13, 2011
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In a recent interview 2face reveals his plan for the future

As we go through life,we all suffer betrayals.Even Jesus was betrayed by one of his disciples Judas Iscariot.I have been betrayed but I won’t want to comment about it.
It’s a path so painful that I don’t even want to go there.Just like betrayals,I have also suffered heartbreak on account of a woman.
Again,it’s better to let sleeping dogs lie.Let me just say that love is a strong force which can conquer anybody, even if you are Tuface. It happened to me long ago.
I have loved and have been loved. When it comes to love,I am as Innocent as my name Innocent Idibia.I have never come across a virgin all my life. The only person I have disvirgined is me.Myself.The fact that I have not come across a virgin does not mean there are no virgins. What I am saying is that I have never jammed a virgin. I don’t know what I will do the day I come across a virgin. Will I marry her?
The truth is marriage is not in my plans.I will never marry.Let me put it that bluntly. I don’t want to marry. I am angry.”

I am pretty sure alot of ladies still wont mind, even if its for a baby or two.

Politics: 28 Missing In Abia by ASANIGBO(op): 8:51am On Sep 30, 2011
Twenty-eight members of the Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) in Abia, who were allegedly arrested in their homes by security agents of Abia State government and whisked away to unknown places are still missing months after they were taken away.

Eight others are being held at the Nigerian Prisons, Afara Umuahia while two are at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) of the Nigerian Police despite orders by President Goodluck Jonathan that MASSOB members being held anywhere be released without conditions.

Those being held are a couple, Chief Moses Chionye and his wife, Mrs. Peace Chionye, Mr. Humpgrey Nwakanma, Mr. Akwakanti, Mr. Chika Uluocha, Mr. Ndubuisi Nwahiri, Sunday Brown and Ndubuisi Nmadubuko. The two being held at the SCID are Goodluck Afonne and John Irotahu.

In a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the movement, Mr. Uchenna Madu and made available to Daily Sun, MASSOB called on President Jonathan, the United Nations leadership, the Human Rights Commission and the African Union to call the Abia State government to order over the incessant arrest, torture, intimidation and detention of MASSOB members in Nigerian Prisons, Afara, Umuahia.

The statement said that despite the president’s order to state governors, armies and police to release all MASSOB members both old and new in their custody and to stop harassing them, the government had vowed to deal with them both in the state and beyond.

“On September 12, MASSOB hoisted her flag to celebrate MASSOB’s 12th anniversary, the government called the Police Commissioner, Mr. Bala Hassan to go round the state and arrest all MASSOBIANS. He also ordered the police commissioner to shoot at sight everybody they see on top of any tree or pole, hoisting Biafran flag. From all indications, Abia government leadership has made itself the enemy of MASSOB,” the MASSOB spokesman said.

He decried the attitude of a state government that had come out fully to kill her citizens, adding that “any governor in the entire eastern region who goes about hunting for his brothers and sisters in order to eliminate them is not worthy to answer a governor in any part of Igboland.”

He said no amount of intimidation and oppression could stop a non-violent group from demanding for their rights.
He called on the relevant authorities to rise up and save them from the oppression of security agents as they were not violent like the Boko Haram.
