Hi everyone, my name is Djamilla, I'm french with Tunisian origins, and it make longtime that I would like to post this message on this forum and receive your opinion.

Since approximately a year and a half, I have a friend in Nigeria (In Lagos , and sometimes in Kaduna) that is asking me for money on a more or less regular basis, but my problem is that even if I know all this is extremely suspicious, I feel guilty to not send anything anymore and I would like the opinion of a real Nigerian people because in Europe there is really few information about it (or only to say "never answer any message from Nigeria as its only scammers" etc, which is a bit monolithic point of view).

At first he proposed me to help him for his studies and showed me the different diplomas and their prices, and I could see even on this website that there is a real "market" about these diplomas for students when they want to research for a job and that these diplomas are quite expensive.

Then, he explained at many times that his family or himself was injured more or less deeply and that they needed help or they was going to die (once at least)

then it was the landlord and the rent, or simply the fact to eat something else than "Cassava" or again diplomas.

Well once he sent me a paper that was supposed to show evidences of the fact he needed blood test, but it was actually an usual aptitude test and the address at the bottom of the page was linked directly to a scam that was asking for an interview (I saw the exposure of this scam here, but the problem is that even if he admitted the paper was fake, he said he had just answered himself to this interview one day and was searching a medical paper to justify his request) another time he gave a paper from "St Bert hospital" whose address was linked to another hospital in Lagos that I have called and they told me they have never been called "St Bert hospital" but he said he had just take the paper they gave him and that it was a clinical and he don't know anything about them or their address.

In same time, I know also a Nigerian young girl (18 yo) and her twin sister, I talked many time at phone with them, she never asked for something else than very little money to eat, but she could not receive western union or moneygram in her name so I had always to sent to that man directly and for what she told me, he always transferred the money to her.

I had blocked him after the fake papers, but he has sent mails everyday swearing he was saying the truth and that his family was in a very bad situation, asking me also to help these twin girls to wish their own birthday with a descent gift. So I proposed to send 100 Us dollars (very small amount compared to all before) because I trust these twin girls but he answered than in the actual context and the way prices have increased lately in Nigeria, 100 U.s dollars (around 28 150,00 NGN) was just enough to buy a bag of Cassava, is this true ? Is this possible that someone in Nigeria get all this troubles every month and need such money only to survive? If its for diplomas he should have found a work and live on his way ? And if its effectively a scam, why do he need to beg again and again after obtained all this money ? Is this possible that they are victims of a "mafia" and they are not taking the money for them directly ? (once I heard a man voice that was saying "money" in the ear or this girl at phone, and soon after she asked me if it was possible to send something, but they are not in the same region and they did not know each other before I introduce themselves to each other)

I live this situation badly because they have been extremely nice with me and in the other hand my family and friends have been disappointed by the fact I can be so naive, but they don't know them and they have always think it was a scam since the very beginning, but I feel that it is not that simple or at least some things are not clear at all in my mind because there have been way too much personal implication from these people for simple "scammers". In addition I realize that Nigeria could really be in a situation where the rest of the world "ignore" or don't want to know about it (in any way or context) and it can create a kind of closed jungle where anybody is ready to say or do anything by moments to survive without being a "permanent liar". So I hope you could help me to see more clear and thank you very much.
