I welcome you members of the press to this August interactive session on the state of security in our country and our contribution to the efforts of well-meaning stakeholders to proffer solutions to the current challenges. We have followed the current security situation in the country, especially in parts of the middle belt region, leading to the death of a number of our compatriots. We have further observed with dismay the attempts by some vested interests to politicise what ordinarily ought to be a national disaster on the singular note that they are in search of cheap political points. We express our heartfelt sympathies for those who have lost their loved ones and urge all Nigerians to embrace the peaceful coexistence that has been the hallmark of our country over the years. We assure them, that the government of the day is working assiduously to ensure that these killings are brought to an end and urge the people to cooperate with the security agencies to bring lasting peace to troubled spots. While anger at this time may be understandable, we must not allow emotions to becloud our sense of judgement. The people of these areas which have been affected by the onslaught of enemies of our national unity must not allow themselves to be used by opportunists and sponsors of these senseless killings to achieve their selfish aims that have nothing to do with the long-suffering people of Nigeria. We have observed the attempts to bring the person of IGP Ibrahim Kpotum Idris into these killings to use it to further their opposition of the good works being done by the IGP and his team. The smashing of the notorious kidnapping gang of Evans and others in his gang wouldn’t have been possible had the IGP not been hands-on in the discharge of his primary duty of protecting lives and property of Nigerians. While IGP Idris' calls for expanding and reforming the police force have been met with deafening silence, we find it curious that a tragedy of these scale would be used to further deride the work of the police force and undermine it’s genuine efforts to address the current challenges. It is on record that arrests have been made in connection with the recent incidents in Plateau state by the Joint task force in collaboration with the police, and we urge all the agencies involved to speed up investigation and action on the matter to bring closure to the people. We as students, having been beneficiaries of the prompt attention given to security issues on our campuses by the current leadership of the Police, pass an unwavering and unalloyed vote of confidence on the leadership of IGP ibrahim Kpotum Idris, and urge the fine officers under him not to allow the present challenges to deter them from carrying out their duties of building a 21st century police force capable of handling the security problems of Nigeria. The leadership and membership of the Concerned Nigerian Students will not relent in demanding for a better Nigeria and working assiduously with all who support our cause and share our vision of a new Nigeria. We urge the perpetrators of these senseless killings to desist from their selfish and inhumane course, as the long arm of the law will soon catch up with them. All politicians should, in the interest of the average Nigerian, support the work of the security agencies and give backing to the IGP’s call for improved funding as well as expansion to provide better equipment and manpower needs of the force. We call on the IGP to continue with his onerous task of policing a multidimensional society such as Nigeria and avoid any form of distractions from any quarters whatsoever, as Nigeria is bigger than any sectional or other interests. We call on the presidency to continue to empower the police and sustain the support so far given to the force to deliver on its primary responsibility to the Nigerian masses. We call on all Nigerians to remain calm and go about their lawful daily activities, while never hesitating to provide useful information to aid investigations and protection of life and property of all Nigerians. Security is everybody’s business and all hands must be on deck to ensure that criminals have no safe spaces to operate within the borders of Nigeria. Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!

Tonto Dikeh Set To Create Awareness On Menstrual Hygiene As The World Mark World Menstrual Hygiene Day 28th Of May In commemoration of the Global Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Tonto Dike Foundation has concluded plans to visit Government Girls Secondary School Dutse and Suleja Prisons in Abuja and Niger State respectively, to educate them on the importance of hygiene, especially menstrual hygiene. Menstrual Hygiene Day is an annual awareness day which comes up on the 28th May, to highlight the importance of good menstrual hygiene management. It was initiated by the German-based Non-Governmental Organization, WASH United in 2014 and aims to benefit women and girls worldwide. The decision of the founder of the Foundation, Tonto Dike, to visit the prisons is informed by the cultural beliefs and menstrual myths in the society and how they affect women or the girl child. Many such ideas and beliefs have been proven wrong by science, but they are still followed in current societies. These myths tend to suggest that menstruation is a disease or a curse and it leads up to beliefs like a womans body is polluted when she is experiencing periods. Such beliefs and myths cause discrimination against women and at times, can lower your self-esteem and opportunities for growth. The Tonto Dike Foundation finds this situation to be a problem for the society in general because, women are the better half of every society! The Foundation intends to aid over six hundred women and girls with free sanitary towels, cutting across the Girls Secondary Schools and the Female inmates of the Prison. This is just one of the numerous philanthropic gestures of the Foundation, having empowered a lot of destitute women in the recent past, as well as offering scholarship and empowerment schemes to victims of domestic violence and rape.

Ghanaian man claims watching Porn is a sin Below is an opinion post concerning religious people watching leaked sex tapes. The post is written by Chris-Vincent Agyapong Febiri which he sent to a Ghanaian website. In it he spoke of how people who claim to be religious are mostly the ones who love to watch leaked sex tapes which he says are no different from porn. He wrote: ”I think I need to remind the religious folks who carry Mohammed and Jesus Christ on their foreheads every day pretending to believe in them and pretending to follow the Quran and the Bible this: Do you know it’s a SIN to watch p*rn including leaked s*x tapes? Viewing Pornography is a Sin – Matthew 5:28 is very clear on this. “But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.” Pornography viewed alone or together as a couple is sin. 1 John 2:16 says, “For everything in the world – the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does – comes not from the Father but from the world.” Quran 16:90 states that; “Surely God enjoins justice, kindness and the doing of good, to kith and kin; and He forbids all that is shameful, indecent, evil, rebellious and oppressive.” Sex tapes are indecent materials under both Islam and Christianity and indulging in their viewing is certainly a sin. Allah equally hates this just as Yahweh does, and if you watch it, you are going straight to hell (Jahannam). This is why I don’t bother with religion and religious folks anymore because almost everyone is heading to hell—and I am told there is a special worse hell for the hypocrite religious folks. You guys do not make a good case for your beliefs or God at all!” http://www.asonaija.com.ng/2018/04/watching-pornography-together-as-couple.html cc; lalasticlala

Students of the University of Ibanda are currently in shock over the recent increment of fees in the institution especially in the the school's college of Medicine. According to findings, as at last session, the school fees was #25,000 while accommodation fees was #14,000, however, this session the school fees has increased to #31,150 while accommodation fees to #30, 000 and #40,000 for students in the medical hostel. But the major issue and fee increment that particularly affects students in college of medicine is a new levy called 'clinical training levy' which ranges from #75, 000 to #100,000. This fee affects medical students, dental students, nursing, human nutrition, med lab, physiotherapy, physiology, biochemistry and so on. Some students who spoke on the condition of annonimity said, 'they (school authorities) have been giving excuses like 'the federal government is no longer funding us' and all, but the major question is why only UI? UI isn't the only school offering these courses and yet it is the only one that wants to impose a levy. Our student union was also suspended last year so I think this is an attempt by the school authorities to impose the fees on us hoping we wouldn't put up a fight'. Another student said, 'what happenes to people that cannot afford it? Some of my classmates could not even afford the previous fees and now they have to deal with this increment? Most of the hostels are in a very bad condition. The hostels are overcrowded, bed bug infested with hiccuping light and water supply yet we are asked to pay more. That is only acceptable if living conditions in The hostels are improved'. http://www.asonaija.com.ng/2018/04/students-cry-out-after-university-of.html cc; lalasticlala mynd44

The UN on Monday condemned the Sunday night attack by Boko Haram insurgents at some communities in Jere Local Government Area of Borno State. The UN Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Yassine Gaba, in a statement in Maiduguri strongly condemned the attack on civilians which resulted to the death of 34 persons. “The UN strongly condemns the deadly combined attack which took place near Belle Village in the outskirts of Maiduguri on Sunday April 1. According to local sources, at least 34 civilians lost their lives and 90 others injured in the attack. “The recent weeks have seen a steady continuation of attacks on civilians in the three most conflict affected states of Borno, Adamawa and Yobe in the northeast of Nigeria. “Since the beginning of the year, reportedly, at least 120 women, children and men were killed and over 210 sustained serious injuries, in over 22 attacks allegedly by non-state armed groups directly targeting civilians. “Civilians are also regularly abducted, as in Dapchi, Yobe State, where 110 school girls were taken on Feb. 19. “Innocent civilians continue to suffer daily from direct and indiscriminate attacks in the northeast of Nigeria,” Gaba was quoted as saying in the statement. Gaba expressed concern over the endless number of explosions, brutal killings, abductions and lootings resulting to loss of lives on daily basis. He called on all parties in the conflict to end the violence, and to respect human life and dignity. The UN official stressed that protection of civilians is a major focus of the ongoing humanitarian response in the northeast, noting that over 7.7 million people were in need of humanitarian assistance including food; shelter, water and health care in the affected states. “Women, children and men face daily grave human rights violations, sexual and gender-based violence. “Since the start of the conflict in 2009, more than 20,000 people have been killed, thousands of girls, women, boys and men have been abducted and children continue to be used routinely as so-called suicide bombers.” Culled from http://www.asonaija.com.ng/2018/04/un-condemns-maiduguri-sunday-night.html

The Agunloye royal family of Oyo town has appealed to the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, to prevail on his son, Akeem Adeyemi, a federal lawmaker, not to convert the traditional Aremo quarters in Oyo town to a mini stadium. The family in a statement signed by its representatives, Azeez Ladigbolu, Moshood Agbailaka, Matilda Gbadegesin and AdemolaAdeladan, said the stadium plan, for which N75m has been earmarked according to Adeyemi, would erase the historical value of the Aremo quarters, while urging the monarch to make his son see reason why the traditional quarters must be preserved. The statement said, “According to the authoritative historian of the Yoruba race, Rev. Samuel Johnson, the very first official act of the new king (Alaafin) after his coronation is to create an Aremo and a princess royal or an equivalent. The Aremo is the crown prince. The term simply denotes an heir, but is used as the title of the Crown Prince of Oyo. In many papers he presented in the past, Oba Adeyemi said the institution of Aremo of Oyo is a distinct and very important chieftaincy institution in Oyo. The Aremo is the heir apparent being the first male child of the Alaafin of Oyo. His official residence is adjacent to the palace of the Alaafin and all quarters inside Alaafin’s palace are replicated in a miniature form in the official residence of the Aremo. We are stunned by Adeyemi’s plan because he is a scion of a renowned historian and king of Oyo town. We do hereby draw the attention of the National Assembly, the Oyo State Government, the Oyo State House of Assembly, the Federal Ministry of Culture and Oba Adeyemi to nip in the bud this perversion of history." Yesterday, we reported that Khloe and Anto, got an opportunity to get back to the Big Brother Naija house through |
Second Runner-up of the Big Brother Naija 2017 Reality TV show, TBoss has a Romanian Mother, and a Nigerian Dad from Benin, Edo State. Recall in 2017, when the Kemen-TBoss saga was trending, her father, Engr. Vincent made a comment after Comedian AY joked about the issue. He took to social media to write in 2017: I felt horrified that AY the comedian would make a joke from others’ pains and heartbreaks. Within 5minutes of meeting her brother at the Airport upon her arrival in Nigeria, TBoss directed her brother to start all legal proceedings against Kemen. When the issue was brought to my attention, l I knew TBoss was deeply hurt by Kemen’s action. I will stand by my daughter any day and will go to any length to protect and uphold her dignity. As for Helen Paul, she NEVER liked TBoss. God will judge her accordingly. Hater. AY, it’s most unfortunate that you have heaped burning coal of fire on your daughter’s head. With time you will cry more than I cried for the humiliation meted out to my daughter in the Big Brother Naija 2017 House by Kemen. AY, I WILL NEVER FORGIVE YOU. Your wife and all your daughters shall be raped before your very own eyes. This is a solemn promise. Just wait. Was Kemen the only male in Biggie’s House? TBoss abhorred his sexual overtures and she told him so on several occasions. Kemen’s action should be condemned by all and sundry. Congratulations to Mr. Idowu on his new wife. http://www.asonaija.com.ng/2018/03/bbnaija-tboss-dad-marries-new-wife-in.html

Nollywood actress Yetunde Bakare has surely established a niche for herself in the highly saturated movies industry. The versatile actress, who is able to interpret diverse roles, has opend up about sex and according to her, it is fun and makes an individual worry less. With unforgettable and great exploits in films like Ajobi, Alani Baba Labake, Omo Olodo, Awa Okunrin, Awolu goes to School, Amisu to name a few, Yetunde Bakare has quietly entrenched herself as one to watch in the Yoruba movie industry. Yetunde Bakare in recent chat with Potpourri, bares her mind on sex, love and dating, albeit sexual harassment in the industry. “Sex is a normal thing that happens between a lady and a guy, it is just a way of expressing your emotional self. When you have sex you have a lot of fun, exercise and stuff, and you will be relieved of some things. It is a very good moment because you worry less and you just want to have that fun when you’re doing it. You want to reach the climax,” she stated simply. And sharing her experience concerning randy directors, Yetunde recounted one she would not forget in a hurry. “I can’t tell you names but a lot of challenges and issues like that. There was one that was so serious that we had to fight. It got to a stage that he started sending me messages on my Facebook, abusing me and all and he is a star for that matter; he is a very popular actor,” she said. With a knack for playing roles many of her colleagues wouldn’t dare touch, the actress says she would do sensual roles short of making love on set. “I’ve not done anything like sex but I’ve kissed, I’ve done bed scenes. “I’ve kissed for real even having my boobs fondled is no big deal because we know we are working and your mind is more on what you’re doing rather than thinking about something else, so, it’s just part of the job,” she said. In a new interview with The Nation, Paul Okoye of the now defunct group, PSquare, says he never left the group when his twin brother, Peter, opted out and that he moved on with his solo career after waiting for two months to see if the fallout could be resolved. In the interview, Paul said “I never left and I don’t know why people keep asking me that. It might be the fourth time it’s happening but I always wait. But this time the difference is that I did not wait. So I don’t have issues on that.” Speaking further, Paul said the earlier days of their separation was strange to him because he had never performed alone but now he is used to it “There was a bit of a breakdown when it happened and everyone was in shock because usually when things happen like that, I wait for almost nine months. But this time, I had to move on with my life and under two months, it became normal for me. It’s the same old thing. There’s nothing new. The only part I know is different is performing alone because at the early stage I wasn’t used to it but now, I am used to it''. Reacting to comments made by some Nigerians that himself and Peter have become upcoming artiste since their breakup, Paul said ''Well, they know who they are referring to. Like I said, nothing changed. If you listen, it is the same thing you have been listening to almost twenty years so I cannot go and discover a new thing. We are in the internet generation so people can say whatever they want. I know people are angry but there are some things that you cannot say; that is why it is family. If somebody did not pull out what they pulled out, you won’t know about anything. That is not me, and like I said, I don’t want to say anything about it. You might be doing your job but I have to protect what I have to protect''. Peter left the group in 2017. He accused his brothers, Paul and Jude, of consistent disregard for his creative input in Psquare. He also accused Jude of always threatening his life.
