Politics / State Police Will Not Work In Nigeria - Senator Chimaroke Nnamani by AtikuNetwork: 10:47am On May 10, 2021
https://www.lindaikejisblog.com/2021/5/state-police-will-not-work-in-nigeria-senator-chimaroke-nnamani.html

Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial District, Chimaroke Nnamani has stated that state police will not work in the country.

The former Governor of Enugu state who spoke on Channels Television's ‘Sunday Politics’ on May 9, recalled how the country had regional police in the past and the factors that led to its abolishment in the past.

According to Nnamani, some of the things that led to the abolition of regional police and formal entry into the state police have not changed.

He said;

“State police will not work in Nigeria. Remember that we had some form of state, regional police. We had an ordinance 4 of 1916 that formally established regional police, native authority police in the north, and also in western Nigeria.

“There were factors that led to the abolition of state police. With the 1966 coup and the emergence of the Ironsi government, a government committee was appointed to study policing in Nigeria. They presented their report in 1968. All those factors that led to the abolition of regional police and formal entry into the state police have not changed.

“Nigeria is organic; it’s one unit. For you to have state police, it means it has to be uniform in the 36 states; it has to be standardised in the 36 states. If it is not uniform, then it is inherently unequal.

“You’re going to have state police in a state like Lagos state with a poverty rate of 10 to 20 percent, compared to states that have poverty rate of 81 percent. How are you going to pay them?

“So, if you police Lagos effectively, what is the guarantee that you’ll be able to police states in other regions effectively? The standards are going to be different. Then, of course, there are the factors that led to the abolition of state police in the beginning — elite capture of the system, influence by political and traditional players.”

There is no hypocrisy...

Igbos havent gone on murderous rampages in South West, by contrast Northerners have.

These Igbos may have been destitute, but their instant go to, isnt violent crime or theft of crops. What is wrong with you, Fulanis have literally set portions of the South ablaze, turned the North into a warzone yet you want to point fingers at igbos.

Say what you like about Igbos, but they typically sign contracts, pay for what they want and are hardworking. I am afraid I cant say the same about recent poor arrivals from the North to places like Lagos.

Another shameless hypocrite in my mention. You are probably another igbo person because it is you guys that mostly thinks this way. Are all Northerners Fulanis? Your ignorance is very disgusting. It's like saying all igbos should not be issued visas to South Africa and other countries because most of them abroad are known drug pushers.

Crime / Suspected Lagos Robbers Kelechukwu, Godspower Busted With Stolen SUV by AtikuNetwork: 5:41am On May 02, 2021
The Lagos State Police Command on Saturday said its officers have arrested suspected armed robbers, Nnonyelu Kelechukwu, and Okongi Godspower and recovered a stolen vehicle from them.

A statement issued by the command‘s spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi said operatives attached to FESTAC Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), made the arrest on 29th April, 2021 at about 9am and recovered the vehicle.

Adejobi said some community leaders in FESTAC had informed the DPO that the suspects wanted to sell one unregistered Lexus 2004 SUV to one Anas at the rate of N1,000,000 and that they suspected that the vehicle must have been stolen.

“The DPO and his team tracked down and arrested the suspects and the unregistered Lexus SUV was recovered to the station.

“The suspects have confessed that they removed the vehicle from somewhere in Alaba-Rago Area of Lagos State.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has commended the efforts of the Division for arresting the suspected armed robbers and directed that they should be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Yaba for discreet Investigation and possible arrest of other members of the syndicate,” Adejobi said.

Politics / Troops Kill IPOB Militia Commander, Others In Sting Operation by AtikuNetwork: 4:40pm On Apr 24, 2021
https://thenationonlineng.net/troops-kill-ipob-militia-commander-others-in-sting-operation/

April 24, 2021

By Our Reporter

Security forces on Saturday morning killed an alleged Southeast Commander of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), six-armed militias and arrested several others during a deadly encounter in Imo State.

The alleged commander identified as Ikonso, The Nation gathered, was coordinator of the daredevil attacks on Imo State Police Command as well as the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) facility in Owerri that led to the escape of over 1,800 inmates.

Operatives comprising the police, Department of State Services (DSS) and soldiers of the Nigerian Army were said to have stormed Ikonso’s Umuokwe country home late on Friday and engaged suspected IPOB members till early Saturday when they took over the premises.

It was gathered this major breakthrough came after weeks of investigation and trailing of the alleged Commander said to be a native of Awo-Omamma, a community located about 20 minutes from Owerri.

The deceased commander, it was learnt, was the anchor man for all foreign donations to IPOB and the one who usually disbursed same to other sub units.

It was gathered the man was propelled to carry out the attacks following promises of a vice presidential slot should their demands for Biafra Republic be achieved.

Sources privy to the operation told The Nation that Special Forces stormed the suspect’s mansion in the community but were attacked by armed militias on guard duty.

He said three policemen and a soldier were seriously wounded during the operation which lasted several hours.

“But the courageous policemen stood their grounds and exchanged fire for fire. The armed militias were many and wore their “bullet proof” that makes security operatives think they are impenetrable.

“Despite that, our men took down seven of them including the commander who happens to be the owner of the house. He owns a big compound there and uses part as his residence while the other part is for IPOB operations.

“Three of our men and a soldier were seriously injured. They were evacuated from the scene. The operation lasted several hours. When they saw that the policemen were not retreating, the others escaped through the back,” said the source.

It was gathered troops did not retreat as they went into the property, searched through and discovered several weapons and charms which were recovered.

“We recovered so many weapons and charms. We did not lose any of our rifles in the operation. We also evacuated those neutralised during the confrontation and have surrounded the property to prevent regrouping of the criminals.

“It was not an easy operation but we are thankful to the team for living up to their training and professional skills,” he said.

Crime / Unachukwu Chiluba Paulinus Sentenced To Death In Vietnam For Drug Trafficking by AtikuNetwork: 7:16pm On Apr 14, 2021
The People’s Court of the southwestern province of Tay Ninh, Vietnam on Tuesday, April 13, sentenced a 25-year-old Nigerian man to death for illegally transporting narcotic substances into the country from Cambodia.

Unachukwu Chiluba Paulinus was arrested on February 19, 2020, in the Ta Pheng area of Thuan Tay hamlet in Loi Thuan commune, Ben Cau district, while transporting nearly 3 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

25-year-old Nigerian man sentenced to death for drug trafficking in Vietnam

He told police that he arrived in Cambodia in 2019, where he met an African man called Oscar who hired him to transport the drugs from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City for 2,000 USD. He was paid 650 USD in advance.

After traveling by taxi from Phnom Penh to the border, he crossed over into Vietnam and was arrested by Ben Cau district’s police.

He also confessed to having earlier transported a backpack containing drugs from Cambodia to HCM City, which he delivered to an unknown man.

The decision was based on Clause 4 in Article 250 of the 2015 Penal Code, the local media reported.

Politics / Igboho: Waheed Adetunji Petitions Police Over 'Fraudulent Act’ by AtikuNetwork: 8:17am On Apr 13, 2021
April 13, 2021

By Segun Showunmi, Ibadan

A real estate agent in Ibadan, Oyo State, Alhaji Waheed Adetunji, has said the recent police invitation to Chief Sunday Adeyemo a.k.a. Sunday Igboho was meant to question him over his involvement in alleged criminal acts, not because of his agitation for Yoruba nation.

Adetunji, a complainant, provided some documents to reporters, which he said are evidence of his allegations against Ighoho.

He berated the police in Oyo State for allegedly shielding him (Igboho) from arrest and prosecution.

The spokesman for Igboho, Olayomi Kioki, had said that the Inspector General of Police sent a letter to his boss for an invitation, which he refused to collect, alleging that it might be a letter bomb.

Ighoho’s spokesman gave an impression that the Yoruba ‘activist’ has become a target of the state because of his involvement in a secession agenda.

A statement by Adetunji, the complainant, said: “We have used every means to get Ighoho arrested over illegal acquisition of a landed property at Idi-Mango village road, Soka area, on Lagos/Ibadan expressway, in Ibadan, but his strong connection with the police in Oyo State is frustrating efforts to get him arrested.

“However, after many failed attempts to arrest lghoho in Ibadan, we sought assistance of the police from the police headquarters in Abuja and they contacted Alagbon Police Station in Lagos to intervene.

“This has led to the prompt arrest of some of Ighoho’s boys and lawyer, but Igboho has been hiding under activism for the emancipation of the Yoruba race as an independent nation right to shield himself from lawful police invitation and prosecution.”

I am just laughing at your ignorance. I use the word "ignorance" because you threw up a lot of issues that you don't understand. Awolowo never opposed the secession clause. It was Zik who shot down the idea and we all regret it today.

The British prevented Murtala and other Northern officers from seceding. You should thank the British for that. Because you guys would have suffered in the so-called North. Just look at Niger Republic and see what your country will look like.

You're no better than the social media noise makers you have accusing of making empty threats.

If there is a war of secession in Nigeria today, you won't even have time to boast, not to talk of making a claim to Lagos. We will first create a buffer using the Middle Belt.

We're talking about modern conventional warfare, and not those almajiri-inspired violence in the North.

Another typical rant of a coward. I am still very pro-Nigeria with no iota of hate towards any tirbe in Nigeria, so for that reason I would refrain from saying some things about your people that you may find very offensive. Besides, Alhaji Atiku is as detribalized as they come as an individual, not just as a Northerner, and he has shown this all his life. In him resides Nigeria's last hope of dousing all these needless ethnic tensions, when he becomes president, insha Allah. We will campaign all over Nigeria when the time comes, so therefore I still see all tribes as Nigerians, at least for now.

But I will still say this. Mallam no be mumu. So don't you guys ever think for a minute that you can blackmail the North with your secessionist antics. The North will be very ok if Nigeria breaks today, contrary to the usual propaganda from you southerners. And speaking of warfare. How many southerners are currently in the Nigerian army? Who are the custodians of Nigeria's arsenal of weapons today? Listen, nobody wants war (at least I don't), but if war happens today in this country, yorubaland would definitely be a central theatre of war in the south because you have a lot of foreigners in your midst, many of whom are hostile and don't really wish you well. And your region will burn. I say that will all sense of modesty. What happened during endsars would be child's play. You guys watched fifth columnists almost burn your most developed state to the ground and you did nothing, many of you even participated in the carnage. Compare that to Wike's handling of the Igbos and other miscreants during the same endsars. That is just a preview of what war will bring to your door step. Again, I don't wish for war. But as a Muslim, if Allah says war is inevitable to break Nigeria, so be it. undecided I repeat, the North will be fine if Nigeria breaks up today.

I want to believe this is just a stupid admonition from one idiot to another...Because I don't understand the stupid tantrums you're throwing here.

If there is a war of secession in Nigeria today, you won't even have the temerity to carry out 1/100 of your threats. Many of you guys have the confidence to say this because of the holier-than-thou liberal Yorubas and the politicians among us...

Because I don't know how an ill-educated Hausa/Fulani could be boasting about destroying Lagos...Hausas don't have the intellect to prosecute modern war.

I am a man of peace but it seems many of you southerners mistake such disposition for weakness. Northerners are not afraid of Nigeria's break-up. Murtala Muhammed wanted to secede after the 1966 coup that saw many of our finest leaders killed senselessly, it was the intervention of Gowon that halted that project. It was your southern leaders that forced 'One Nigeria' on the North from the very beginning after the Sarduana expressed the ill-preparedness of the North towards the independence being pushed by your Southern leaders. Azikwe and Awolowo also refused to include the secession clause in the Nigerian constitution at some point. But today you guys blame all of Nigeria's problems on Northerners as if your leaders are not equal stakeholders in Nigeria. How many of your representatives at the federal level are pro-secession? Why not threaten them with a recall to force them to push your secessionist agenda at the National Assembly if truly your agendas are genuine? Instead you blame the North for all your problems. You're all crazy.

If you southerners truly desire to secede, you know what to do and how to go about it, so stop the scapegoating of the North like cowards. As for that fool babaolofin or whatever he calls himself. He's just a typical yoruba coward, waiting on others to fight his battles. Out of all the Yorubas in the South-West, the idiot could only think of calling on igbo mercenaries tocome and help him kill yoruba leaders in Lagos. What a stupid coward.

Nigeria can split in peace if truly that is what the majority of its constituent parts want. No shaking. And by that I don't mean social media noises from miscreants and riff-raff wannabe secessionists. The North would fine on its own, as would any other part of Nigeria. But if his premise for inviting mercenaries is to dislodge Northerners from Lagos because igbos have investments in Lagos, then I put it to you that we Northerners would put up a fight that will shock your region to its foundations because we are also investors and stakeholders in the same Lagos. For the of sake peace, just share the state to all of us based on our investment stake. And if war is what you want, bring it on. We have no single bone of cowardice in us. cool

@babaolofin: Based on your response, I am convinced that you are either a bastard or have no single yoruba blood flowing in your veins going by this stupid excuse of a rebuttal you just gave. You obviously have that cowardly Afonja gene in you hence your reasoning. I can see that you casually/deliberately failed to address my Afonja reference because you must be a bastard. Instead you are talking about igbo investments in Lagos. Dangote alone has more investments in Lagos than all igbos combined so what's the big deal in that? Should that be enough reason to even contemplate inviting non-Yorubas to do your dirty job of killing your erring leaders for you? What manner of inexcusable reasoning is this? No reasonable igbo would even take you seriously, going by the aftermath and consequences of Nzeogwu's misadventure.

If Awolowo had reasoned the way you are, he and other yoruba leaders of that era, including Victor Banjo, would have supported the easy passage of Biafra troops in Ore as a prelude to conquering the entire Western region during the early days of the civil war. Unfortunately, with reasoning like yours, especially if more yoruba people reason like you, I am willing to bet that yorubaland will eventually become a conquered territory by foreigners in their midst, within the next few decades.

In case you read a different history, I will give you the real version of how Ilorin became the only caliphate on Yoruba soil (a situation that remains a source of shame to many Yoruba people today and that won't be reversed anytime soon), and why yoruba people will equally lose the crown jewel real estate of their region, Lagos, should they subscribe to your abominable reasoning pattern. In a nutshell, Afonja, a garrison commander cum generalissimo in the border yoruba territory of Ilorin, used Hausa-Fulani mercenaries (who were also residents of Ilorin at that time) to prosecute his civil war campaign of independence of that territory from the Alaafin's sphere of influence. He succeeded with the help of the mercenaries. Shortly afterwards, the mercenaries became uncontrollable in the territory because they knew their central role in Afonja's ascendancy, and felt they could get away with anything. Afonja's later attempt to bring them under control was what led to his assassination. That's the real story.

Hausa-Fulani and Igbos are not the problem of yoruba people. Yorubas are the problem of Yorubas because they are intrinsically betrayers. That is why they are destined to become a conquered people.

If you think we Northerners would sit back and watch yorubas and their Igbo mercenaries run us out of Lagos without a fight, after all our investments there, then you have another thing coming. Kai wawa ne. We will all share your conquered territory equally, since you people refuse to have sense.

If Nigeria must split, no wahala. But you see that Lagos, walahi all of us will take our share. I swear it. Either that or we burn it to ashes. cool

Next time there would be EndSARS 2 in Lagos, there is no way aggrieved IBOs, Niger Delta and Middle Belt groups will not use the period to vent their frustration and anger on Lagos State government and prominent Yorubas.

Sorry to say this but you sound like a bastard, if truly you are a Yoruba man. How can you say you will be inviting outsiders to come and help you kill yoruba leaders. This is a part of yoruba people I can never understand. You people behave and reason like slaves at times. What happens after outsiders finish helping you to finish off your own leaders in your land? They will turn around and finish you off or enslave you for the 'favour', just like Afonja experienced.

Look, I am a Northerner from a small tribe in Bauchi called Kirfawa, and no matter how bad our leaders are, we can never contemplate what you are even suggesting. Allah ya kiyaye. Very shameful yoruba mentality. Don't igbo people have their own bad leaders that they should face and deal with themselves?

Can't Yorubas deal with their own erring leaders themselves? It is this same mentality of yorubas like you that gave Nzeogwu and his gang the temerity to kill leaders of other tribes in 1966 while sparing their own leaders, believing they can get away with it. That was the beginning of all the problems of Nigeria today, because that foolish move led to reprisals in the North, which then led to the civil war. Don't igbos also have corrupt and criminal leaders as well?

You sound like a big fool. No matter how angry you are, you should always use your tongue to count your teeth. Unless you are bastard. Shege.

If the person you think is the best is a clannish, bigoted, and pro-Biafran, the rest of Nigerians will not vote for him because he will cheat them and focus everything on his own clique. Politics is not usually about who you want, but about who the political party feels is sellable to the country as a whole because he has put in the work to build a brand that other sections of the country are comfortable with. You cannot win Presidency in Nigeria by being a 'local champion' that only your own people fancy, because their votes alone will not get you the position. Rochas and OUK may be disliked by their people but other sections of the country may be comfortable with them for the simple reason that they are not clannish, and would protect the interest of other Nigerians and not just igbos.
