Uduaghan Disgraced As Okowa Wins Delta PDP Gov. Primary

Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan was on Monday disgraced as the people of Delta State overwhelmingly voted for Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa as the Peoples‎ Democratic Party governorship primary in the state.


Uduaghan had initially supported Tony Obuh but later changed camp in favor of David Edevbie. Edevbie was also James Ibori's preferred candidate from his UK jail. Edevbie participated in the looting of Delta state during Ibori's tenure, in which he served as commissioner of finance. He is wanted in the UK in connection with Ibori's theft of over £200million from the coffers of Delta state.

His rejection in the party primaries should be seen as rejection of Ibori's remote control of Delta politics from his jailhouse in the UK.

There was wild jubilation in Asaba and other parts of Delta state Monday, following the declaration of Dr. Okowa as the PDP flag bearer for the 2015 governorship election.

Okowa who is Nigerian Senate committee chairman on Health, garnered 406 votes to beat Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan's last minute candidate, Mr. Edevbie, who received 299 votes, followed by Mr. Victor Ochei who polled 185. Uduaghan's earlier anointed candidate, Mr. Tony Obuh, scored 5 and Mr. Ndidi Elumelu received 50.

Twenty five aspirants contested in the governorship primaries.

Tribalism leads nowhere but backwards! Whatever happened to voting for those with the capability to move us forward? We are supposed to research them, weigh their good qualities against their bad, etc.

But here we are voting for tribe.

Since when does your tribe determine your worth? If you are an Isoko person and you see that a certain Ijaw person has what it takes to move us forward(just an example), why not vote for him so as to have swift development and even lay sound foundation for younger generations? Why do we have to be caged by tribalism?

Imagine, I got a text from 'Delta Unite' saying Tompolo has ordered all Ijaws to vote against the Urhobos, so the UPU has declared that the Urhobo nation will vote against Jonathan. Imagine that! I was even pissed that airtel allowed such text messages.

Congrats to Ifeanyi Okowa.
I have met and spoken to him before and I see him as cool and down to earth, though I know that's not all that is required. I don't know about other candidates from other parties but I pray that the best person for Delta state wins.

Funny enough majority of Okowas votes came from the central and southern zone. With the southern zone delivering almost 50% of his votes.

guy you are forgetting one thing all them people you mentioned speak one language there is no diff between them hence no tribalism there.If UPU support shifts then he is on his own the whole Anioma cant vote him in, and lest we forgot he is coming up against Great ogboru,he is not an easy man to defeat.

Ogboru is not running, APC picked Olorogun O'tega Emerhor. They knew PDP was going to support a candidate from the Northern senatorial zone.

That's not going to make any difference.

IBORI, never knew when to stop. That's the reason he is in prison today and criminals worse than him are kingmakers in Nigeria. I am not ashamed to tell people he is the best GOV delta ever had. Okowa will learn from the last 2 years of Uduaghan, and avoid unnecessary distractions. Okowa is also well connected across the central and southern zone, I don't see him having the same problems Uduaghan had for his first 5 years.

I will also tell you that anybody UPU supports wins, if you think Im lying name one govt they support that lost? right from Felix Ibru till date.If UPU stand behind Okowa then he wins but if the reverse is the case then what happened in Edo will happen here even if its free and fair election as UPU covers more than half of the whole delta they have more LGAs if Im not mistaking.My idea is if OKOWA has a good package for UPU then bravo.

I think the UPU will be fine with Okowa. We are all from delta and we know the drill, Okowa and his team will do the needful. Above all, it is clear Ibori still looms large in delta's politics. The urhobos will not and cannot win a divide and conquer battle. The likes of Senator MANAGER AND Majority Leader, Ogor from southern zone are onboard with Okowa. That is a good start, I expect people like Ovie Omo-agege to get on board too. Even Tompolo is on Okowa's team.

Uduaghan brought this on himself, why did he want to unseat the only leading ijaw politician in delta state? Thank God he came to his senses and traded the right votes for Okowa. Senator MANAGER, is now the new kingmaker in the state.


He will probably head to Abuja as Minister of health come 2015.

Edo state had a broken PDP in 2007 and that was their downfall. Osho even had the support of the out going gov. PDP is rock solid in delta.

My reason: the Ikas have always aligned with the Urhobos, they do the biddings of the Urhobo. Infact, an Ika man would want to be addressed as an Urhoboman instead of been refered to an anioma man. The Urhobos have been having filled day in Delta politics because the Ika man shares the vote that is meant for the Aniomas with the Urhobos. I am not trying to be bias here, but just trying to state my reasons. Seeing an Ika man at the delta govt house is same thing as seeing another Urhobo man at the govt house come 2015.
