According to Vanguard, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will announce the results of the Adamawa State governorship election on Thursday, pending any unforeseen circumstances. The INEC will meet as a "Commission" on the matter between Tuesday and Wednesday. The announcement follows the suspension of the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, for declaring the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru Binani, as duly elected before collation was concluded, a move that sparked controversy. The responsibility of declaring election results rests with the returning officer, not the resident electoral commissioner. The INEC has summoned the suspended REC and Mele Lamido, the returning officer, to its headquarters in Abuja. |
Prince Mandela Umegborogu, one of the lawyers representing the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed concern over the alleged relocation of a tuberculosis patient near Kanu's cell at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja. In an interview with Vanguard, Umegborogu said that Kanu was highly enraged about the situation, which he alleged could be a deliberate attempt to infect him with the disease. The lawyer also claimed that Kanu had complained of bleeding from his nose on Sunday and required urgent medical attention from his personal physician. Umegborogu further stated that when he raised the issue with DSS officials after their meeting with Kanu, they denied having any tuberculosis inmates around the facility. Kanu's family has called on the international community to intervene and ensure that he is not allowed to die in detention, as they believe any plan to bring him down through infectious disease should be dropped. As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the DSS for comment were unsuccessful. |
I am sorry for your loss. It sounds like Chief Mrs Toyin Badmus was a remarkable woman who made significant contributions to her community and the Yoruba culture. It is always difficult to lose a leader and a mother figure, and I hope that her loved ones find comfort and strength during this difficult time. It is inspiring to hear about her accomplishments, from being the first woman to hold both Iyalode and Iyaloja positions to her work as a grassroots mobilizer for the 2023 General Election. It is clear that she was a respected and dedicated leader who will be missed by many. I join you in asking for forgiveness and peace for Chief Mrs Toyin Badmus, and may her legacy continue to inspire others to follow in her footsteps. |
