Don't nurture an inordinate ambition about wealth acquisition because the earthly fetishism can do nothing but sophistry of riches and be setting one's life with paroxysm of fool's paradise for which one's life and heathy living are submitted in an exchange .My people, Human being gives someone cap and takes in return his leg. For whom shoes are given, legs are seized as a novelty value. Could one then affirm that earthly bestowed talents are advantageous?NEVER! IT CAN NEVER STAND THE TEST OF TIME. Please be careful. Politics is the conscious attempt to control the mind and resources of men and nation. The truth remains that the entire gamut of human activities fall within the sphere of political control. It is interesting to note that since the inception of the political process of colonial rule,Nigeria women were excluded from politics as a matter of fact, until the Federal Election of 1954 that women could participate in politics but as for Ilaje land reverse was the case. The opinion of women were not considered in the political landscape of the area and they were seen as too emotional to handle the affairs of politics.Women were seen as domesticated beings whose job was to rear children, manage the home and be a sexual partner to her husband. Women involvement in politics was triggered by the regime of General Abdusalam Abubakar which heralded Nigeria's reture to democratic rule in 1999.The beginning of the new era of democratic government was marked with increased women political participation. The likes of Mrs Ebisemiju,Mrs Ololajulo,Mrs Ehuwa Victoria,Mrs Lara Amuni,Mrs Bosede Holo,Mrs Irente Olu,Mrs Owoyele Toyin,Chief Mrs J.A Jedo and host of others remain a force to reckon with in the political landscape of Ilajeland even till today. |

The Ilaje are a linguistic group of yoruba stalk made up of four geo-political entities namely Ugbo,Mahin,Aheri and Etikan. As a result of nearness to sea and presence of rivers in the area, the chief means of livelihood was fishing.Fishing was engaged in by both men and women from the primordial time.Though, women engaged in fishing, they were mostly noted for processing and marketing of fish while men were skillful in catching.Fishing among this people was an agentvof craftsmanship as many indigenous techniques and gears were invented by the people by making use of local materials relevant to the society such as Cast net(Obiriki),Encircling method(Aworiro),Funnel entrance gear(Iyanma,Ighere, and Agada),Spear(Ugaga),Dragnet(Asunfifa),Fencing(Ufo),Sinking net(Apamu),Core gear(Ojijin and Madogba).Fishing was carried out both in the creeks and sea. Farming was another economic activity of the people. The settlements in the inland area such as Atijere,Agerige,Ugbo edun,Igbo-Egunrin etc were noted for food crop farming .They engaged in cassava processing and production of garri and cassava ball(pupuru).Animal rearing was also part of human activities .This was a method of keeping domestic animals such as goats, pigs, dogs, sheep, and so on for economic purpose. Hunting was one of the oldest occupation among the Ilajes. They were hunters of small animals such as Squirrel(Ehugben),Grasscutter(Ewuju),Alligator(Legungun),.Some large animals been hunted include Deer(Agbanrin)Crocodile(Onen)etc. Crafts and manufacture formed a crucial economic foundation among the people during this period. The people developed indigenous industrial technology in the area of boat, canoe, paddle, leaf bed construction and mat weaving. In addition, salt, soap, and potash production forms parts of the major economic activities in the area. |
The Ilaje are a linguistic group of the yoruba stalk made of four geo-political entities name Ugbo,Mahin,Aheri and Ekikan.Though, the people had no written constitution to define and express their rules and regulations in a precise form, there were conventional practises embedded in norms and taboos(erigho). These were adopted as instruments of enforcing socio-political order. The people also adopted the use of songs, proverb, and folktales as means of infusing discipline and societal education in the young ones.Happenings in the society were intellectually coined into songs especially Biripo and Ijegbe, proverbs and folk stories.Songs were employed to convey moral, literacy, social and economic messages among the people. The people developed a variety of songs such as songs of eulogy, satire, sorrow, pleasure, cultism, war etc. The social aspect of the people could also be seen in their burial, marriages and festival. The nature of burial to be given to dead ones depended largely on the status, age and the nature of death. Marriage among this people was strictly based on historical investigation about families and personal information about the the bride and the groom. They believed that if too close blood relation got married, the ancestral spirit (Ogungun)could inflict punishment on the couple. The most prominent among festivals in Ilajeland was the Malokun festival which was an annually event.Others were the celebration of the founding days of different towns and villages. |

It doesn't matter the way through which we get the money all we need is Pounds and Dollars....Do you believe in such idea,do you think it can do all things?.....but don't forget that too much love for money can be dangerous....... |

The Ilajes are one of the most dynamic and enterprising people in Nigeria.Their aquatic skills, coupled with their ability to adapt enabled them to conquer their harsh geographical environment and turn it to their advantage.
