He seriously argued with me yesterday about Racism in Russia compared to the US. He said it's worse in the US and we argued for hours. I even thought he was in Russia.

My brother i Tayar oh!
I thought i was doing the right thing to clarify the matter, little did i know i was involved in a debate abi na knowlede competition.
My submission na for everybody intreasted in Russia, hear the raw facts from me and go figure out the rest.
Thanks

Like I have said before
Anyone who wants to further his studies in the Russuan Federation or wherever should count the cost and assess his situation very well before taking a decision
Most of you want to use study route as a decoy to jaapa and start hustling
Your reality is much more different from one who does not hav that cloud hanging over his head

Hmmmm.
Every intended students need proper information to access their sitiuation ( remember the topic of the tread is '' Why Aren't Nigerians Interested In Russia?)
Wheather na japa wheather na studies at the end of the day then what? almost zero opputunities await in either case.
No school slashes fees because you passed language school, that information will decieve others, if you are sure of your facts whats the name of the school, google student reviews and the schools website will clarify the matter.

BEA Scholarships are also there, but its tied to the nigerian govt so I'm not really a fan

so the scholarship you have in mind is tied to Nigerian government? i hear you. if you travel thinking you go get scholarship tied to Nigerian government, sorry na your name.

98 percent of international students on scholarship obtained their GOVT sponsored scholarship from their home countries before coming to Russia not the other way round, nobody gives you scholarship while already admitted as a fee paying student.

Why Aren't Nigerians Interested In Russia?

To the creator of this thread, i hope you now know why Nigerians are not intreasted in Russia

I hope my submissions will help others thinking about Russia. its not worth the headache.

You are calling facts "them say"
All I said up there have legit references to them.
Thanks for the best wishes though

Am calling facts them say? what fact? Firstly whats the name of your intended school? cursory look on the schools website will tell us if they award scholarship to fee paying international students after Preaperatory faculty ( Russian Language school) or at any time in the post graduate program.

Russian universities lure international students to come study so as to collect fees, a lot of the universities are under funded, it will amount to wishful thinking to grant you a scholarship mid way when you were admited as a fee paying international student. ( They need the money!!)

You said a lot has changed since i left Russia, REALLY? Hmmmmmm
you also said ...................

From the gist I hear from people there, there has been a lot of reform and laws passed that give clear pathway to permanent residency to postgraduate students with good grades.

Hmmmmmmm Nigerians self, From the GIST YOU HEARD! Permanent residence!!
Lets even assume in your wildest dream you got a permanent residence what would you be doing job wise after school in Russia when unemploymet is high among Russians themselves coupled with sanctions that has reduced the ROUBLE ( Russian currency to $1 = 73R ) ( 1Rouble = 5.56 Naira) the Rouble is almost as useless as the naira.

Also you spoke about sturding the language, you mean you intend a postgraduate program in Russian Language or you intend to do your postgraduate program in RUSKI? ( Russian Language)

My brother we are native English speakers, yet when we are doing our masters, postgraduate or whatever program in English back home its very stressful cos of lots research work, reading lots of materials, infact some people drop out because of stress ( all in English Language)

But you will study the Russian language for one year and with that commence a postgraduate program and be the best in a bid to secure an elusive invisible scholarship? Whao you must be somthing else, Russian Language is one of the most difficult Languages in the world, there is a diffrence in learning the language for daily platonic conversations and when you require an indebt knowlegde and apprioprating same to reseach work required for post graduate studies.

Ask an average Nigerian or African student in Russia and they will tell you the Langage is a night mare, even for those that have lived there for over five years, speaking the language differs from STURDING IN THE LANGUAGE, WRITING CONVINCINLY IN THE LANGUAGE FOR POST GRADUATE WORK.

you also said ............................

And the school I chose, they are generous with scholarships though I dont have that in mind
Passing preparatory class slashes your fees by 50% already, then getting the quota scholarships cancel your fees in totality

My Brother where are you from self?

Passing preparatory class slashes your fees by 50% ?
then getting the quota scholarships cancel your fees in totality?

Really? Thats not true, you like facts abi? Please whats the name of the school? so we can check it out and put the facts online for all to see.

Russian schools encourage forieign students enrolment to collect fees! that has been the practise all this years, the school sends your pasport to immgration for yearly VISA OR PERMIT and is after you have paid all your school fees, hostel fees etc, if you cant pay the next year the school wont help you renew your visa and you would be giving a month or so to leave the country.

Why so much headache, Much ado about nothing, you are blessed to encounter a former Russian student willing to share with you first hand experience about Russia yet you they ague, i wish i had sombody to tell me before i went to Russia.

Money had earned should be prudently spent!!

I reply because i want others to learn.

Well
A lot of things have changed since you were last in russia
From the gist I hear from people there, there has been a lot of reform and laws passed that give clear pathway to permanent residency to postgraduate students with good grades.

I'm just saying
And the school I chose, they are generous with scholarships though I dont have that in mind

At the end of the day
One will not spend more than 7m to 8m max on living expenses plus school fees
Depending on the scholarship one get
The total expense may even be much less
The current education ministry is enticing international students to at least stay for a few more years, and to be very honest, I wont mind a post doctoral fellowship in the country
I have an open mind to these things
It's to see how things pan out

Them say them say!
Them no Dey tell man!!
Wish u well.

The issue of having limited opportunities in Russia is true to some extent. However, sponsoring yourself through school in any part of the developed world is a very difficult task.As a student, how person wan take pay £15k for UK with 20hrs work per week?If u don't have enough home support choose Moscow you will definitely survive here.Ofcourse, even in Moscow you may not be able to carry the financial burden of everybody in your family as a student, its not ur fault because a student in the 'almighty' USA and Canada can not carry the financial burden of his/her family.

Oga whats the future prospect of spending 8 t0 15 million naira sturding in Russia? schooling abroad is not all about helping people back home, but whats the plan after school? do most intend to returning back to Nigeria?

If he intends coming back home then thats okay, because their are not much prospect as such remaining in Moscva after school.

I speak plainly so every one intreasted in the subject matter can comprehend and make informed decision.

In my previous posts i spoke about education in Latvia, Estonia. Lituania, Finland and around EU contries in eastern Europe, the energy, time and money spent running around Russian schools could be spent in countries with better future prospects, to me na common sense.

I live currently in the states, students over here can school, work and do other things, its all about a better prospect for the Future.

Thank you very much for your comment
Moscow is where I chose
Hopefully the application checks out and I move to the next base
That said
What you just wrote about britain and the likes is precisely what I was thinking when I chose russia.
A critical assessment of my situation showed that i can see my program through without having to do much work in moscow
Compared to Britain
£15k pounds will see my program In moscow fringe beginning to end
Though I dont have it, was just making mention of your example.
In life
One has to be practical
And thank God once again
That I dont have to carry burden
It's just me
However I'll like to ask a quick question
I'm assuming that $3600 can take me for a year in living expenses in Moscow (this is independent of school fees anyways)
If you dont think so
How much will one rather estimate

Go for it and may God enable you, but it will be instructive to other would be students if you can share your school fees, boarding and other associated expenses for the duration of your intended program. ( convert it to naira also if u dont mind)

And also do you intend returning home to Nigeria after your sturdies? because their are no much prospect in Russia after that.

In my opinion future prospect matters when you intend spending 8 to 15 million naira in pusuit of a foreing degree, the visa expires when your program comes to an end, overstaying visa is a no no, could lead to fines, arrest and deportation. relocating to other EU countries from Russia is very difficult almost impossible.

So if its just to sturdy in Russia, pay your fees and every other associated expenses, graduate and return to Nigeria then you are good to go.

My dear brother, it seems from your previous post you are just making attempts at posgraduate admission in a Russian school, i wish you well. But i think it would have been better to ask for guidiance from someone that is schooling or has schooled previously in Russia.

This is a public forum and thousands of people gain valuable information for direction as to how to proceed in any endevour be it schooling in a foriegn contry, Busness, Politics etc, so its emperative to share useful information.

I like to address a few lines in your previous posts ........... ( I want to use one stone to kill many birds at once
Learn the language, gain good experience, good education, all that

Learn RUSKI? ( the language), Gain good experience? Good education? i like to ask at what cost?

I presume your program will be taught in Russian language? meaning in the first year you would be learning the language. in the second year to the third year you would commence the post graduate program, ( masters 2 yrs) ( PHD 3 to 4 yrs) so plus minus your total cost for a masters program plus language for 3 yrs will eclipse $20,000 ( tution, boarding.books, living expenses, Flight etc) thats almost N10,000,000 Ten Million Naira, could be a little less could be a little more. am not bordering to calculate for PHD.

Gain good experience, of course travlling bestows various experiences, but the final analysis will determine if your experience gained will categorise as a good experience in Russia.

Good Education? that is relative, has it ever occured to you that despite the abysmal educational standard in Nigeria, Nigerians will travel abroad and be tops in their various schools/classes globally, why is that so? could it be the worst educational standard in Nigeria might be better than we actually give it credit for? Nigerians are solid in undergraduate programs, postgraduate programs in the whole of Europe and the Americas. we top the class!

Caviet- Their is nothing wrong in schooling in Russia if you have the funds, or you have good sponsors cos you cant raise money by doing odd jobs, its just a waste of time.

Most Nigerians travel to school and look for other oppurtunities to better themselves and their immidiate family, if you were to school in latvia, Estonia. Lituania, Finland etc, at least they are in the Euro Zone, when you are off from school you would do a part time job to pay for your living expenses, and still help back home.

Bros that Money you want to waste in Russia chanel it to admission pursuant in any of the eastern europen contries in EU. will be better for you.

And the best thing is that I do not have people looking up to me to send money and all that (a situation many Nigerian young men face, and put then under undue pressure)
So it's a good fit for me
But its not for everyone sha
If your circumstance is such that you are from a disadvantaged home, you managed to dig your way out and many others are looking up to you
It's understandable that this journey is not for such person

You DONT have people looking up to you? - are you from Nigeria?

If your circumstance is such that you are from a disadvantaged home, you managed to dig your way out and many others are looking up to you

And how can you even make a statement like the above?

Honestly i didnt want to reply again self, when i read your post a second time i got upset.

Russia is ok for study if you can afford it, good sponsor, scholarship, but you might get frustrated if you think you can work to support yourself, pay bills and help back home.

In Europe and America students work part time to support themselves through school. But Russia get as e be. He that has ears let him hear.

Lastly bros if you need help with admision in Russian schools i can connect you with the President of Nigerian students in Russia, thats the best way to get admitted, they simply call up the school speak with them in Russian language and help you secure your admission, its faster and more succesful that way, they cut off a lot of protocol.

Another example, if a friend mine needs admission in the school i attended in Russia, i cut off the burocracy and call up the the DECAN ( Dean of interntional student) they were our teachers they will say email me the result, thats it. thats the fastest way to go, they operate easily if u speak the language and was once a student.

I hope people can learn a lesson from my post, notice i didnt talk about racism, cold etc those are non issues. i Just forcused on what most Nigerians care about which is OPPURTUNITY!

SHALLOM

Good evening everyone.
I am planning to apply for a postgraduate program in Russia, and there are a few grey areas that I will please need clarifications on.
First, the schools are insisting I upload my transcripts on my personal page, and from my experience with transcripts, it is sent directly to the school not individuals
Is there a way around this ?
Second, they are also insisting I "legalise" and notarize my certificate and transcripts, translated to russian
Please
For those who have passed through this phase, how do I go about it?
Must I go to Abuja for this ?
Or can someone do it in my behalf
Thank you

.

RodgersAkpafu:

Btw if I may ask, why did you quit your program ?
And was it an undergraduate program? (I'm betting it is)
I feel that at the end of the day, it's all boils down to what people want
Some schools in the russian federation will give you quality education that can kick start your career in a decent manner in many parts of the world...
So for one seeking a bargain for quality education, I think n russia is a good fit
However, I know Nigerians very well...
Just like you said
For a good number of Nigerians, it is all about where can I go to pack money.
They dont even care about the education or even what they are learning, or the cultural and international experience while studying....
Its all about where can I go and pack money and build village house or drive expensive car when I get back to naija
In the first place many of our people are even using the study route as a decoy to jaapa and hustle, then abandoning the program (its happening in some of these European countries already)
So for people like that it's in their best interest to steer clear from Russia.

That's just my opinion anyways

If I may ask have you been to Russia before?
I studied the Russian language for one year in oreperation for my PHD. I speak the language fluently. I have no issues with the country and the challenges that prospective students or immigrants face. If you have a good sponsor paying your fees or you have money saved up to study then you are good.
But if your intention is to use schooling as a spring board for a better life in Russia, na men it’s not worth it in the long run. A lot of Africans from Zambia, Angola even some from Nigeria etc school in Russia on scholarship. Schooling in Russia without good financial backup from home or your personal savings is a no no.
Travel / Re: Why Aren't Nigerians Interested In Russia? by AutoYankee: 10:28am On Jul 21, 2021
If I may ask why would any Nigerian travel to Russia to school or live? You need to answer those questions properly before embarking on that journey. If the main reason is to school, work and make money then it’s not worth the investment in the long run. I speak from experience cos I schooled briefly in Russia for one year and had to return back to Nigeria.

The racial, cultural, language etc pale into insignificance if you can’t make money. For the average Nigerian it’s all about the money potential at the end of the day that matters.
