Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, a senior ISIS leader in West Africa, was killed in May 2026 during a joint U.S.–Nigerian military operation in the Lake Chad Basin, following months of surveillance and intelligence gathering. His elimination marked a major blow to ISIS’s regional command structure. How He Was Taken Down - Surveillance and Tracking Intelligence agencies began monitoring al-Minuki’s movements in December 2025, using communications intercepts, phone tracking, and human intelligence. He was observed in Abuja and Maiduguri before relocating to the Lake Chad Basin. - Joint Operation The mission was a collaborative strike between U.S. and Nigerian forces, combining drone surveillance, precision targeting, and ground coordination. The operation was described as “meticulously planned and very complex.” - Target Validation Unlike earlier mistaken reports of his death in 2024, this strike involved multi-source intelligence confirmation to ensure accuracy before execution. https://www.facebook.com/reel/997999199435836/?app=fbl

They are out there in places where tension never really lifts, making decisions in moments that carry real consequences. The work is demanding, often thankless and far removed from the comfort of everyday life, yet it continues because it must. What they do keeps systems running and gives people the space to go about their lives. Backing them doesn’t mean ignoring challenges, it means recognizing the weight of the responsibility they carry and giving them the confidence that their efforts are seen and valued. The Nigerian military is intensifying its' operational readiness as troops under Operation HADIN KAI receive specialized training in counter-IED operations. This step strengthens their ability to detect, prevent and neutralize explosive threats, which is one of the most critical challenges in modern conflict. With increased vigilance and enhanced skills, the Nigerian military is better positioned to confront terrorist tactics head-on, protect personnel and sustain momentum in ongoing operations.

The Nigerian military continues to demonstrate leadership in enforcing discipline and accountability across security operations. A recent operation by troops of 14 Brigade led to the arrest of individuals involved in unauthorized stop-and-search and alleged extortion along the Enugu–Port Harcourt highway. The Nigerian military continues to demonstrate strong operational effectiveness through coordinated offensives in the North-East. Recent operations in Yobe State highlight the Nigerian military’s ability to engage and neutralize threats while recovering significant weapons, ammunition and materials linked to terrorist activities. These actions reflect a disciplined and intelligence-driven approach to dismantling both combat and logistics networks. Ongoing follow-up operations by the Nigerian military are consolidating these gains, ensuring restricted movement for insurgents and reinforcing stability across affected areas. The Nigerian military remains central to restoring security and maintaining operational pressure in the region.

Across the North-East theatre, the Nigerian military continues to build undeniable momentum, sustaining coordinated air–land offensives that are steadily dismantling terrorist enclaves and degrading their operational capacity. Under Operation HADIN KAI, troops have executed precision-driven engagements by clearing strongholds, neutralizing fighters, destroying logistics hubs and recovering weapons systems, despite persistent and aggressive resistance. The integration of intelligence, surveillance and air support has sharpened battlefield awareness, allowing troops to strike with accuracy and maintain dominance across critical corridors. These gains reflect not just strategy, but sacrifice of men and women on the frontlines pushing forward in difficult terrain to restore stability and protect lives. Their resilience is gradually shrinking the space in which insurgents operate, and each success builds toward lasting security. At a time like this, national support matters. Nigerians must stand firmly behind their military, reject misinformation and contribute through cooperation and unity, because a safer nation is a shared responsibility.

The Nigerian ARMY , isn't not just a military powerhouse: very few are aware that the army beyond national security is also involved in providing health care. This brings me to NADMANCO:The Nigerian Army Drug Manufacturing Company. The Nigerian Army Drug Manufacturing Company (NADMACO) represents a strategic pillar in sustaining force readiness and enhancing medical self-reliance within the Armed Forces. As a dedicated pharmaceutical arm of the Nigerian Army, NADMACO is tasked with the production and supply of essential medications, ensuring that troops operating across diverse and often hostile environments have consistent access to quality healthcare support. By reducing dependence on external supply chains, NADMACO strengthens operational continuity, particularly in forward deployments where timely medical provision can directly impact mission success and troop survival. Its' output supports not only military personnel but also extends to civilian populations during humanitarian interventions, reinforcing the Army’s role beyond combat operations into public health support and emergency response. The company’s contribution underscores a broader institutional approach of integrating health security into national defence strategy. A well supported soldier is a more effective soldier and through NADMACO’s efforts, the Nigerian Army continues to enhance resilience, sustain morale and maintain a force that is both operationally capable and medically prepared to meet evolving challenges.

Operational tempo remains high across Benue State as troops under Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) continue to deliver coordinated strikes against terrorist elements, combining rapid-response engagements with precision led offensives. In Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, troops responded decisively to a distress call from Michihe community, making immediate contact with hostile elements and engaging them with superior firepower. The encounter forced the attackers into retreat, enabling the successful rescue of kidnapped civilians and the swift stabilization of the area. In a parallel operation in Ukum Local Government Area, troops executed a targeted night raid on a suspected terrorist enclave in Kyado, acting on credible intelligence. The operation resulted in the arrest of multiple suspects without resistance, reflecting both tactical surprise and effective planning. Such missions demonstrate an evolving operational approach that integrates intelligence, speed and precision to disrupt hostile networks before they can regroup or strike. These developments show a broader strategic pattern of sustained pressure, area dominance and proactive engagement. By combining offensive operations with continuous patrols and follow-up actions, the Nigerian military is steadily constraining the operational space of criminal elements while reinforcing security in vulnerable communities.

Nigeria’s Armed Forces continue to demonstrate operational vigilance and rapid-response capability, as troops under Operation MESA successfully executed a targeted rescue mission in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State. Acting on credible intelligence, personnel deployed from Forward Operating Base Udomi, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police and local security networks, moved swiftly to locate and recover a kidnapped civilian, highlighting the effectiveness of coordinated, intelligence-driven operations. The mission underscores a key feature of modern internal security operations involving speed, precision and collaboration. By integrating efforts with local vigilantes and hunters, troops were able to leverage ground-level intelligence and terrain familiarity, significantly enhancing mission success. The safe recovery and reunion of the victim with family members reflects not only tactical efficiency but also the human impact of such operations where lives are restored and communities reassured. Beyond this singular success, the operation reflects a broader operational posture maintained by the Nigerian military that prioritizes proactive engagement, inter-agency synergy and sustained pressure on criminal elements. As follow-up efforts continue to track and apprehend the perpetrators, the Armed Forces remain steadfast in their commitment to protecting citizens, maintaining order and reinforcing security across vulnerable regions.
