skywalker240: I am still reading it, and the few points have come across seems to be in favour of the mass and small scale business owners
Am from Delta State, so I'll be glad if what is coming from my State VAT, at least a 60% chunk remains in my State instead of 100% going to Abuja and a meagre 30% come back to my State.
Please Sir, I'll urge you to read it You get the point! |

Kukutente23: So how much was allocated to Bayelsa. It's not only about generation but also allocation. Bayelsa from 2021 data I see online got more than it generated.
Meanwhile, like I said, if Bayelsa with the least population is generating more VAT than a state like Kano or Kaduna, that shows that something is wrong with either the collection or the computation of VAT What is currently allocated to Bayelsa from VAT is far below what Bayelsa generates. With this bill Bayelsa will receive more from it's generated VAT. So it's a win for Bayelsa. |
Politics › Re: Seriake Dickson Supports Tinubu's Tax Reform Bills by AwkaFinest: 8:31am On Dec 03, 2024 |
Kukutente23: How does Dickson know the bill will favour Bayelsa? What is the consumption of Bayelsa like? Does he have the numbers? Bayelsa is the least populated state in Nigeria so he has to be sure what he's supporting is really in his state's interest. That's why I don't understand why the north are against the bill especially VAT derivation. I suspect they believe they are walking into a trap because of the lack of transparency in the derivation model. The present model favours states like Lagos. If the proposed model will run on consumption, it should favour Lagos and other highly populated northern states more since ordinarily, population should fuel consumption. So I still think what they want to see is the present consumption figures as tabulated by FIRS. I think that's what even Dickson should request for except if he already has the figures and it favours his state. Bayelsa with the least population generated more VAT than over 30 other states. Only Lagos: N249.77bn. Rivers: N70.54bn. Oyo: N20.11bn. FCT: N18.17bn. and Delta: N13.09bn generate more VAT than Bayelsa. This tells you that Bayelsa has been milked for too long. To answer your question is, if the bill is passed it will favour Bayelsa as things stands today. |
Politics › Re: Seriake Dickson Supports Tinubu's Tax Reform Bills by AwkaFinest: 8:25am On Dec 03, 2024 |
Kukutente23: I'm a southerner and I'm against the bill. Don't make it about south vs north. The big problem with Nigeria is how we quickly tribalise issues without listening to the other side to know if their concerns are genuine or not. The north have issues with VAT derivation. At least that seems to be the main thing they are fighting against. A lot of southern govs are also against the bill. So we should listen to all sides and be properly informed by asking the right questions instead of taking a position based on geographical location that does not add anything to you or the conversation. Only some South Easterners are against the bill. The majority of those in the SS and SW are for the bill. |

FutureFocus: I used to go to the port Harcourt tourist beach then, I really love PH, But Lagos is the only place you see real beach in Nigeria, beach in PH are like normal rivers, just tributes of river Niger, no real Atlantic waves
For example, here in Lagos, the wave 🌊 can go and come 5 times in 5mins but in PH, you can be at the beach 🏖️ all day without seeing the wave, the wave only come twice a day and you will only notice by the increase in the water level and not actually the water real wave, whenever we want to see anything wave, we have to pay speed boat 🚤 to take us far close to the Atlantic Qua qua qua. All the states with boundary to the Atlantic have beaches. Na you never go visit them. |

He was more interested in decimating his perceived enemies, than in advancing his cause, and ended up being packed off to hell by the same "foreigners" he loved and fought hand in hand with, outt of hate for his neighbors. All his present followers haven't learnt either. Understanding is far from you. Read the thread very well before displaying your ignorance. This your question has been talked about in different forms on this thread. Boro's main problem was the oppression by the Igbos in the eastern region. He never had a problem with other tribes, but the Igbos. Carving his land and people into Biafra by Ojukwu and his people meant another Igbo oppression is looming. Boro had to do the needful which if you ask me as at that time was the widest decision anyone with a sane mind will do |

There no such thing as SS but a mere geographical expression. Grabbing several ethnic groups you have no connection with and calling them one fictional name 'SS' doesnt make them a people. Thats what Nigeria is, a land grabbing exercise since the days of the British till now
It's the Biafran agitator that wants referendum so that people can choose who they are, and where they want to belong Referendum is a fundamental right where people are allowed to make choices. However, you can't be the one agitating for a referendum in another man's land/home/country when he does not agitate for it. |

I bet if Boro was let loose by Ironsi without the trials and conviction, it would have been added to the reasons for which it was necessary to kill Ironsi. The same Ironsi that stopped the January 15th coup! Get this; When you're motivated by village hatred, your target will always be wrong, head or tail.. Whether you like it or not, Boro is a respected person in Nigeria today than Ironsi or Ojukwu. Boro remains a hero that's celebrated by the Ijaws and Nigeria. Boro cared so much about his people and made sure that even during the war the level of massacre that occured in Asaba & Enugu did not happen in Port Harcourt and the entirety of Old Rivers State. Boro fought the Igbos for a justifiable course. Ojukwu and Ironsi did all they did just because of mere greed. |

Boro's first idea was to liberate the ijaws from the oppression of the Igbos in the old eastern region and then Nigeria. Igbos jailed him for that, and Nigeria freed him. Mention things that were built in other parts of the southwest by Awo, apart from Ibadan. Mention things that were built in Borno, Gboko or Lokoja by Ahmadu Bello.
The truth though was that resources were not big then and the regional government post independence, lasted for just 5 years plus. Go and read former governor Donald Duke of Cross River state. MadPolitician: Port Harcourt was out competing Lagos in commerce during the the days of regionalism. Abd this was the regional leaders in the east, primed the city for greater commerce. Ports in Portharcourt were booming. Portharcourt was without contest, the commercial hub of the east.
Trans Amadi industrial Layout, Presidential Hotels and all that in Portharcourt, were built by MI Okpara. He started Obudu cattle ranch in Calabar. All these within 4 years, with cash from palm oil mainly grown in the hinterlands.
What do you guys want from the igbo man? Portharcourt was thriving more than Aba, Onitsha, Owerri and Umuahia. Enugu was doing good as an administrative center of the region, but the whole action was in PH. What else do you want? Shataaaap there. PH did what with Lagos? Igbos that took everything to Enugu during the Eastern region era. |

Was opportuned to stumble on a twitter voice feed, where some Yorubas were discussing about the Saros, Maros and Yorubas as regards to Lagos State. Funny enough the majority of the people in that group were Yorubas from Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo. Even though I'm not Yoruba, I felt pretty bad for the Saros, because the way these guys demonised the Saros, like they should have no say in Lagos, because they are slave returnees from Sierra Leone, after the abolishment of slave trade.
The funny part is that one GBONKA is the one leading the charge of demonising the Saros, and to make the rest see how the Saros are not Yorubas and should not be allowed to hold any meaning political position in Lagos(Yorubaland according to them).
Although there were a few Yorubas that were thinking straight and trying to let the overwhelming majority with MR. GBONKA'S ideology to think twice and understand that the Saros are now bonafide indegenes of Lagos, since they've lived in Lagos for over a century.
I only weep for the gullible ones that GBONKA and his cheerleaders are misleading to cause serious hate between Lagosians. All this nonsense stem from last election in Lagos.
Funny how someone from Kwarra or Osun can be governor of Lagos, but someone that has his/her roots in Lagos for over 100 years cannot be governor in Lagos.
Seeing this thread makes me understand the reason for that twitter discussion. And I believe the person that opened this thread is part of the GBONKA squad. |
