As adults,most of us have definitely passed through some stages in our lives while growing up, some of us are very stubborn and have done some bad things as kids, and looking back now some of us always feel some level of remorse.

Indeed fasting has been practiced by mankind for various reasons since time immemorial. There has been that prescribed by the supreme and many by man himself.

For Moses, 40 days in total was prescribed and there are narrations as to how this came to be 40. The times for fast varies through different groups and there are variations regarding compulsion to. Indeed fasting in the month of Ramadan is compulsory for all Muslims and is fundamental to practicing Islam. There are exceptions given to some for valid reasons regarding exemption from food and drink however they are to engage in all other aspects of the time. Indeed Ramadan is far beyond just abstaining from food and drink.

A Muslim fast is dawn to sunset and cannot be reviewed by man. Young children are seen to fast for shorter period in building them up physically and spiritually. It is common for some in other faiths to fast till noon, 4pm or other times of their choice however I doubt they have scriptural backing for this.

There are different types of prefast meals but as a mercy to Muslims Allah prescribes the sahur and iftar in which there are great blessings. Beyond the meals the spirituality in prayers and devotion are enormous. We are not fasting to please mankind but in submission to Allah who alone grants reward for fasting far beyond human understanding. Indeed there is a gate into paradise strictly for those who fast.
