I see that the discussion is getting more interesting. I have done some research on different Crowdfunding models to find what fits into our environment considering our socio-economic structure especially to protect the investors and the interest of the entrepreneurs alike. In dealing with associated risks, there are three concepts that come to mind 1. Funding for Start-ups or for established entities with track record requiring growth 2. Social Crowdfunding, Equity CrowdFunding or simply a brokerage model 3. Fiduciary and Regulatory requirements It might be worthwhile to brainstorm on this concepts within our socio-economic context. |
Hello, I have thought about this subject for sometime now and even contemplated a Doctorate research in this area. Crowdfunding is very possible in Africa and I believe that it is about time we start working on alternative funding models in Africa. Our Banks are infatuated and obsessed with short term businesses, making funding of long term project and ideas difficult. But this is the reason why guys talents are wasting all over Africa. Crowd funding is has economic, social and political consequences in Africa - hence plans for this project must take regulators and stakeholders into considerations because they will be quick to jump into action to oppose the idea. Having said that, I believe that crowd funding can be done in Africa because it has always been there. A far as I know, the Yorubas call it Ajo and it is call Stokvel in South Africa. @charcoalblaq - Thank you for championing this thought. I will be glad to invest effort and resources into the idea because it can potentially change the lives across our continent. Regards kayode@epignosis.co.za |
