Politics / Re: EFCC Arrests Dangote. Charges NERC Boss, Others. by ayocity1: 12:09pm On Apr 24, 2009

Here is another interesting topic to follow if you have spare time on your hands. The topic is about Dangote's arrest by the EFCC but the lessons learned and the thought provoking questions are more about NIgerian values and menality. First of all, I found out he was not arrested. The man was just invited for questioning. He went there and answered the questions. Done. Second of all, mikeansy made this statement on Nairaland
"Dangote is a model Nigerian Elite

Corrupt or not he is investing in Nigeria.

If all the loot by others have been used to start up companies at home and create Jobs.

I doubt if Nigeria would have been the same."

For Christ's sake, when did it become okay to be a thief as long as you can do something good with your loot? How did we ever come to this? Well, the good thing is that texazzpete rebuked him immediately "The man is being accused of illegal conspiracy to devalue another company. Do you know how many shareholders of AP would have lost money due to his alleged actions?
Are you not aware that many delta indigenes feel that Ibori did some good in the state? Does that make him any less corrupt? Is investing money in Nigeria a sure way to absolve one of corruption charges? Is it not the same Dangote whose monopoly of the cement industry is one of the drivers behind the stratospheric prices for cement?"

When I heard about the feud between Dangote and Otedola, I was ashamed to be a Nigerian. With all the humanitarian efforts by others to assist distressed people and the campaign by organizations to feed the poor, two Nigerians are fighting over "who is the richest?". Can someone please tell me what I am missing here? Am I the only one seeing a problem here because no one else has mentioned this on the Nigerian forums. Where is our conscience?

Someone should please help me pass the word to Mike and Aliko "In the end, when you have come and gone, you will be remembered for change you represent, not for being richer than the other rich guy".

Travel / Re: Switzerland Offers Illegal Nigerian Migrants $6,500 Each To Relocate by ayocity1: 12:11pm On Apr 23, 2009

This is one post I was reading on nairaland and I began to wonder if it makes sense. To give you the gist, just as the title says, the Swiss gov. is offering illegal Nigerians in their county $6500 to return to Nigeria. Now you ask me, what's my problem with this proposal?

First, how did they come up with $6500? Who invented this number? I know it cannot be the Swiss government because they have no idea what the standard of living in Nigeria is. They cannot possibly calculate a number that is sufficient to get a fresh start from returning from "abroad". I know it cannot be the Nigerian government either because the politicians are rich and often times have no Idea how much it cost to survive in a Nigerian system. They live lavish lives with little consideration for the underprivileged.

Anyhow @showbobo ("Dollar is about 175naira now and 6500USD would be about 1,137,500naira. . . . . . Abeg,ya'll illegal immigrants should consider this oooo. . . . .It might be a once in a lifetime opportunity"wink, how do you know they are not very comfortable with their lives over there? Maybe they are calling that money chicken feed. No one knows.

tobaina, tallrock, and cabali are on the forum professing negativity. My problem is not the negativity or positivity of other people's comments. My problem is the stupid blindness of our people: Imagine the Swiss and the Nigerian government sitting together and coming up with numbers from the air, no one asked the opinion of the illegals that are actually involved. No one even cared to do a survey in Nigeria to determine the average standard of living for the common man. No one cares, that's my conclusion. Now, if you don't care about someone, how could you device a plan to help them? But noooooo, all those forumites are worried about the money. MONEY MONEY MONEY.

I pray that God will give us the wisdom to see and fix our problems.
