PoliticsCSO: Poor Handling Of BVAS By INEC Officials Caused Problems In Osun Guber by Ayodeji96(op): 2:58pm On Feb 02, 2023
Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, Sam Amadi, the CSO’s director, said there was no overvoting in the election in the “typical sense”.

Amadi said the technology requires good personnel management to ensure the success of BVAS.

“The real failure in the Osun election was not BVAS. It was the personnel that managed the BVAS. As a matter of fact there was no overvoting in Osun in the typical sense. What happened in Osun with a very costly oversight of presiding officers, supervisory presiding officers and INEC officers,” he said.

“There was a practical failure in the implementation of Section 60 (4) and (5) of the Electoral Act. The relevant officers ought to be vigilant and ensure that the BVAS accreditation results were fully loaded before ending the process.

“Even when the losers in the election demanded for the report of the BVAS relevant INEC officials should have ensured that the full report was sent or if there was extreme urgency they would have accompanied with a letter to indicate its interim nature.

“All these failures reinforce the critical importance of the technical and ethical competencies of persons who supervise elections in 2023.

“We have moved to the stage where it matters the quality and character of those who manage technology on election day.”

The CSO’s director said INEC should be careful in selecting ad hoc staff in the forthcoming elections.

“In requesting for staff of sister agencies, INEC should not take any list from such agencies except the nominal list backed up by recent salary slips to verify that those persons are real staff of the agencies,” he said.

Politics"Adeleke Has A Right To Appeal Tribunal's Judgement" – Lawyer Says, Gives Reason by Ayodeji96(op): 7:22pm On Jan 27, 2023
Meanwhile, Osun State Election Petition Tribunal sacked Davido’s uncle Adeleke Ademola As Osun State Governor, declaring Adegboyega Oyetola as the authentic Governor but the legal practitioner is of the opinion that Adeleke Ademola can appeal the matter.

He however urged that the Nigerian government grant the judiciary its total independence at all levels to improve its efficiency and productivity.

Barrister Rotimi opined thus:

“Regardless of the pronouncement of the tribunal, what is certain is that Ademola Adeleke has a right of appeal to the Court of Appeal under section 241 of the constitution as an avenue to lawfully express his dissatisfaction towards the tribunal’s judgment.”It states that; A party dissatisfied with the decision of a court or tribunal can appeal as of right to the Court of appeal within a stipulated period.

”Whichever way it goes, status quo ante bellum should be maintained by both parties pending the outcome of the decision of the appellate courts.”The judiciary sure plays an integral role in our democracy and as such, this should serve as an avenue to call for the total independence of the judiciary in all levels to enhance their efficiency and productivity.”

Enoch, a next-door neighbour to the deceased, claimed Joseph collected the dues on behalf of the treasurer of the department who was not around to receive payment.

According to him, trouble began for Joseph when the president of the department asked him to send N100,000 to him for a departmental project.

His narration: “Yesterday morning, I went to get my phone from Joseph because his phone is faulty and we both shared my phone. He informed me that his HOD called his daddy and said he was involved in fraud. He was very disturbed about it. He requested to follow me to my office at the Students Union Building (SUB) because he didn’t want to stay alone. I left him at the office to attend the homecoming event held at T.I. Foreign AffairsAre Democrats Trying To Take Biden Out Before 2024? by Ayodeji96(op): 6:55pm On Jan 20, 2023
Joe Biden ran for president three times before he finally won the White House. And 2020 was simply the perfect time for him to give it another go.

As he neared 80, Biden had slowed down considerably from his rambunctious days as a senator and vice president. But with the emergence of COVID, Biden barely hit the campaign trail, running his operation out of the basement of his Delaware mansion.

And let’s be frank: many Americans had tired of President Donald Trump’s act. Many independents who decided to give the outsider a shot in 2016 broke hard for Biden in 2020.

But Biden’s usefulness may have expired. While the president has declared he plans to run again in 2024, at least one lawmaker thinks Democrats are planning to jettison him for a better candidate.

They may have just the right formula. The discovery of classified documents in Biden’s garage and the U.S. attorney general’s recent appointment of a special counsel to probe the matter gives Democrats a vehicle to weaken Biden.

“I mean, there’s an element of this where it’s Joe Biden’s lawyer who turns this information over, it’s Joe Biden’s own Justice Department that’s appointed a special counsel to investigate him,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) told Fox News Digital.

“There’s an element to this that feels like the Democrats are taking out Joe Biden,” Gaetz said. “I don’t know that that’s the case, but I don’t know that it’s not.”

“Maybe the Democrats have realized that Joe Biden is not useful to them anymore, and they just assume toss him out and get a younger crop of candidates engaged in the next presidential race,” he said. “But just as Joe Biden is hardening the cement around his decision to run for president again, they start looking for what classified documents might have been tucked away eight years ago.”

In the last couple of months, three batches of Obama administration-era classified documents have been found on Biden’s properties: one batch at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C., and two at his Wilmington, Delaware, home.

The first batch was found just days before the 2022 midterm elections, but the Department of Justice didn’t release the info until this month.

“We have a lot to learn about the content and substance of those documents, and if they relate to China, and if they were at that Biden Center at UPenn funded by China. That’s going to be a far more grave concern,” Gaetz said.

PoliticsCBN Threatens Sanction Rivers Banks For Hoarding New Notes Worth N4.5bn by Ayodeji96(op): 5:44pm On Jan 20, 2023
The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN on Friday berated commercial banks in Port Harcourt, Rivers State over their refusal to dispense the sum of N4.5billion newly redesigned naira notes, distributed to them in Port Harcourt.

Maxwell Okafor, Branch Controller CBN, Rivers State, who led the CBN enforcement monitoring team on the newly redesigned bank notes to some commercial banks and markets in Port Harcourt, said between Thursday and Friday, the apex bank has disbursed about N4.5bn newly redesigned naira notes to commercial banks in Rivers State and wondered why many bank customers are not getting the new naira note.

He expressed concern that some commercial banks in Port Harcourt were deliberately frustrating the efforts of the apex bank in implementing the disbursement of the new Naira notes by hoarding them in their vaults.
He charged the commercial banks to stop dispensing old notes, saying that another N2 billion of the new notes will be injected into commercial banks in Port Harcourt within the next 24 hours.

Okafor said; “We have been monitoring the dispensing of the new naira note and the impression we have is not encouraging. We have visited some banks and one of the banks we visited was not dispensing the new naira notes.

“Their ATM machines are not functioning even as early as at the time we came. We had it on good authority that the banks received money from CBN. Some of these banks received money yesterday and the money is still in their vaults.

FELIX OLOKEDE FROM THE STREET JOURNAL

Obasanjo’s decision had generated reactions from many Nigerians, including the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He said that, “Whether the letter is open or not open, what I believe is that I will be punished by God if I fail to do what is right.

“In my statement, I said that one particular candidate has an edge over other candidates.

“I considered the man’s character, track record, vision and other qualities before making my decision.

“Ater I had finished my observations, I gave my opinion to Nigerians because I see this man as a child of God,” he added.

Hi! Thanks for reaching out. The feeling lump isn't something I can feel by touch,it's more like having something lodged in your throat. It doesn't affect my every day life but it's very uncomfortable. I've seen the ENT tho and I was given some drugs but I can't say I feel any better or worse.
AmbulatoryMedic:
Hi
Feeling of lump in throat is not an uncommon symptom. It could be caused by simple lymph nodes inflammation due to viral infection to thyroid problems or even issues lower down the oesophagus. It sounds unlikely to be cancer based on your age and absence of other risk factors (you haven’t mentioned any other symptoms, so I assume nothing else).
You probably will need a full throat exam for starters

Could be the muscles there as you rightly said, the muscles there are sternocleidomastoid And trapezius. but there are deeper ones like crico-pharyngeus, omohyoid etc and your symptoms could be a pouch somewhere there. Keep in touch as you planned.
Kind regard
Hello!

Thanks for reaching out. The lump I talked about isn't something I can feel when I touch my neck, it's just a feeling I get.

This morning tho, I woke up with a part of neck thicker than usual. It's the muscle that runs down to the collarbone, I don't know what the name of the muscle is tho but it's located on both sides of the neck, so the left side hurts when I touch it.

Not sure if it's a neck strain due to the fact that I stack up pillows because I suspect I might be suffering from LPR. Anyway, I will be going to see an ENT specialist on Monday to rule out all possibilities because the anxiety is crippling , it was so bad this morning that I couldn't even walk.

This throat issue is throwing me into depression. I'll let you know whatever the ENT says. Thanks again.

Hello!

First time on Nairaland.

So, on May 19th I woke up with a sore throat. I waited it out for a couple of days to let it clear up but it didn't, so I went to the pharmacy to buy a throat spray, I used this for a week but it still hurts when I swallow. So I thought it's a bacteria infection, I went to buy erythromycin, I used that till I finished the whole pack but the pain in my throat was still there.

The thing is, the pain didn't increase and neither did it decrease and I'm still able to eat food without any issue and drink water. Then, one night I noticed I had a feeling of something lodged in my throat, I drank loads of water to push it down but all to no relief, and I also feel like I have phlegm at the back of my throat so I constantly have to clear it.

I'm not in any sort of unimaginable pain or anything because I'm still able to carry on with my daily activities without stress but my anxiety levels has increased because of the feeling of something stuck in my throat.

So, I googled my symptoms and boy do I regret that already. I saw a disease called gerd and LPR and the dreaded "C" word. The thought of that makes me want to have a panic attack.

I'm a 24 year old male who doesn't smoke nor drinks. What do you guys think could be the problem? Help me out, I'm losing my mind here!
