Music/RadioReasons Why Patoranking Should Not Be A Judge On The Voice Nigeria Show by ayolog(op): 11:59pm On May 31, 2016
Who else thinks Patoranking should not be a Judge on the Voice Nigeria. Have you ever been watching a Music Talent show on TV and you see the Judges then you start losing confidence on the credibility of the show? That was the case after I stumbled on the The Voice Nigeria Music Talent Show with Tuface, Timi Dakolo, Waje and Patoranking as Judges. Yes Patoranking, you heard that right. He is a Judge and Coach on the Voice Nigeria music competition. A show where judges are supposed to approve of contestants based on their voices alone and the selected artists are allowed to choose one of the judges as their coach and Mentor. 1) NO ALBUM YET: Patoranking does not even have an album yet. His Whayasay album has been in the works ever before the advent of other newbies like Kiss Daniel and co whom already have released their albums. So an artiste with a scanty discography is recruited to mentor other new upcoming artistes. So maybe we are in the era when releasing an album doesn’t matter anymore. Though the music industry in Nigeria is still budding, its will be unfair for young artistes to play Mentor roles in shows like this just because of commercial viability. R

2) NOT A SUPERB VOCALIST: Patoranking has done a few good songs and no one can take that away from him. Despite that he is not regarded as a vocalist when the chips are down. How will he mentor contestants on the main trait that the competition is anchored on? It is a common saying that one cannot give what he does not have. If Patoranking is a superb vocalist, he is yet to prove it.

3) TOO STREET: Patoranking is the perfect description of a Street Musician. From the interviews he has always told us that his background is very dirty. He sold gala in traffic and lived in the ghettos and that’s a good grass to grace story but when you choose the same person to be a judge on a show that most of the contestants are singing songs by U.S artistes.

4) TOO PLAYFUL: There is a difference between being playful and being too playful. Its good to have young people in important positions but at the same time they shouldn’t be carried away by the fun. These contestants’ lives and careers depend on this show. Please show some ‘respek’ . Written By Ayo Alloh (Engineer/Blogger) Twitter: @kingceiver | Instagram: @dkingmaker

Music/RadioBetween Wizkid And Davido, Who’s On Path To Being The Greatest ? by ayolog(op): 12:03am On May 29, 2016
First of all without disappointing fans of both artists, I will say that this write-up is not about the accolades and achievements of both artists. The long rivalry that used to exist between both artistes has since been quashed and on different occasions, both Wizkid and Davido have been seen on stage together or communicating jovially on social media. Even in the recent feud between Wizkid and Linda Ikeji, Davido has shown support to Wizkid in a series of tweets. Also on Wizkid’s recent collaboration with Drake who is unarguably the greatest hip-hop artist at the moment, Davido has also congratulated Wizkid.

The best time to compare artists is actually at the end of the artistes’ career because at any point in time one act could be doing better than the other while at another time the other one could be better off. Take for example, all the media houses that made comparisons between Davido and Wizkid in 2014/2015 during the period when Davido just won the BET Awards and the Headies will have different opinions now that Wizkid co-produced and is featured on a song that is Number one on BillBoard’s Hot 100 Charts.

One common attribute between Wizkid and Davido is that they always know how to win in any situation they find themselves. Recall how Davido beat Dele Momodu and his Baby mama in a social media drama by calling them out on the Osinachi Song that he was featured on. The same was the case during the social media feud between Wizkid and popular blogger Linda ikeji. After the Police invited both parties, Wizkid ensured he was captured in a cordial mood by his photographers with the Commissioner of Police thereby giving an impression that he won the battle between himself and the blogger.

Both Wizkid and Davido understand the music business and have already started investing in other artistes and building bigger teams. Just last week, Wizkid unveiled three top Ghanaian artistes he signed to his Starboy Entertainment record label: R2Bees, Efya and Mr. Eazi. Davido who already had a team of five artistes recently signed two new artists Mayorkun and Dremo to his newly formed label Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) and has been heavily promoting them on media outlets through singles and videos. This definitely means more exposure for the newly signed artistes and also more Wizkid/Davido inspired music, a lasting legacy for the artistes and more money for the record label owners. On the Hennessy artistry song with Wizkid and Tuface, Tuface was amazed on how easy it was for Wizkid to come up with very catchy hooks and choruses. I can bet that must have impressed Drake too on the ‘One dance’ song which made him feature Wizkid on the song. On the other hand Davido who has a lot of rhythm for a rapper turned singer and loads of energy and meaningful lyrics is also a master in bringing out catchy phrases and words which has become part of a recipe in the making of modern music. Both artistes are big giants in the Nigerian music scene and beyond and to compare both artistes will be very difficult without factoring space and time. READ Davido's HKN Gang Signs A New Act.

The most under reported story in 2016 so far is that there is a Wizkid and Davido song. It’s a big risk for both Wizkid and Davido. No matter what they might be thinking, this song is the ultimate battle field that will determine who is the best. There would be no excuses; all parties must bring their A-game in their style, Vocal delivery, lyrics and voice modulation. Rival artists always avoid being on the same song together because of comparisons. All doubts will be cleared in this collaboration. A few secrets will also be exposed during the production of this song for example what amount of auto-tune is used by each artist and who needs a ghost writer or some other secrets artistes hide from each other. The best amongst the artistes is the one who delivers excellently on the song.

The courage and unity that both young artists have shown by working on a song together speaks volumes about the positive energy in the Nigerian music industry of today. One can say confidently that Wizkid and Davido have learnt from the past era where artistes let personal grudges and misunderstanding draw them back from working together and achieving great feats. Let us wait for the song to drop before we say who the greatest is. Meanwhile truth be told Wizkid is winning for now with his music having transcended beyond Africa to the world at large. In a few months their various albums will be dropping and Album to Album comparisons will be made. Only time will tell what the future holds for both Artistes.

But we ask though, who do you think is on the path to being the greatest ever? By Ayo Alloh (Engineer/Blogger) Twitter: @kingceiver | Instagram: @dkingmaker
