amdman: Thank you so much for your advice. I am not going to Ontario but Manitoba. I have my pre nursing admission already.Do you think that your advice would still fit for someone going to Manitoba in terms of OSAP and grant? Which one is the smartest move please 🙏 a job plus school or OSAP & grant. I can get a PSW job with my certificate course but I think it would be better to take advantage of the grant and OSAP since i am coming in newly with no job offer and Canadian income. so that I’ll concentrate fully on my studies. Whichever way, I am going to pursue my career in nursing. Thank you for your guidance.
Here is what I would do if I were in your shoes in 2026:
Apply for a Nursing degree program under Ontario Learn and Stay Grant at schools in London, Windsor, Ottawa. Degree is fully paid for by Ontario Govt.
Apply for and accept OSAP grant to fund living expenses in the interim
I chose London, Windsor, Ottawa as the economic activities in those cities are robust enough for your spouse to find employment in their field.
After a year in Nursing, you are able to start working as a PSW and earn an income, and gain more experience.
Finish your program in less than 4years and you are guaranteed a career in one of the most stable professions in Canada, with options of moving to the US if you want. |

ferfer: I am grateful for your time and advice. I’ll check out the online pre nursing school.
A little bit about the nursing project - I have focused on that because it's been a dream of yours and that pivoting from it will not make you feel complete.
1) Athabasca University used to have online pre-health science courses. Also check in with your university if it is acceptable or if they have a course equivalency chart for pre nursing courses from online Athabasca University. This way you have time to work + family responsibilities.
2) Congratulations on your PR. This may not be for you but it's good for families with kids transitioning from 'one' environment to the 'other' to try to foster independence. If you happen to have someone who helps around the home, this is the time to thank them and pay them off. Independence in every member of the family from the daddy to the mummy and the young ones, especially with regards to domestic duties, self care and activities of daily living is very important for new immigrants.
3) It is achievable academically and people do it all the time. I know folks who came into this country and started, arguably, more difficult, and expensive professional undergraduate degrees like Dentistry, Medicine, Pharmacy and were able to graduate. Was it tough, oh yes, it probably was for these folks. Is it worth it? That is subjective.
4) MSL, DSW and Pharm. Tech. are also rewarding and awesome career lines. Go for it!
Goodluck. |

Good day everyone. I am a new PR awaiting landing in May 2026. I am an experienced HCA and laboratory assistant/phlebotomist from Nigeria. I have a PSW certificate from Ontario (online study). I have always dreamt of becoming a nurse some day. Now that I have my PR, I think it is best to start the race of achieving my career in nursing. I have an offer of admission into BSc nursing ( pre nursing courses included) But alot sounds as if it isn't achievable or doesn't worth it as a PR. I am not sure if it is extremely difficult to achieve academically or it just doesn't worth taking 4 years of my life when I can get something good without having a Canadian education.
Narrowing it down to diploma of nursing Laboratory assistant course(4 months duration Medical laboratory science (28months Diploma of social work(24 months Pharmacy technician.
Also, all I hear is I can't combine study and work together. How true is this statement? I just want to align myself in a good healthcare course without much stress while making a cool cash.
Healthcare has been my identity all my life so diverting totally away will not make me feel complete. I am open to good suggestions too. Little about me A mother of 3 (12-7- 1 year and 2 months) relocating family of 5. Thanks. |

I have a question here, for someone that is in turkeyi and applying for PR from there, is it acceptable to IRCC if the applicant use an account statement from Nigeria as POF, Is it allowed? Also for the other documents, is it necessary to show reference letter from the current employer or former employer or is the employment letter enough.
Thank you al. Submit both employment letters and references. i submitted dom Acc from 9ja bank plus my foreign Acc. |

Ontarioo: If you're genuinely paid in cash, go ahead and present it with evidence. You will be fine. Only cash payment getting rejection are those that faked it. Don't generalize it. I have a question please, how much can one get as cash salary that won’t raise a suspicion? If I am a company owner, I can’t pay my staffs cash from 50k upwards. How can one prove cash salary? What genuine evidence can one provide please? I just want to know genuinely. |

Jacknn: Hello house,
Please I need your guidance and any helpful advice you can offer based on this profile below. currently exploring possible immigration options to Canada and would appreciate insight from anyone who has been in a similar position or understands the pathway well.
: I applied for Sinp like you but I didn’t get their nomination because your course of study must tally with your job experience . But you stand a better chance with Manitoba. Just create your EOI and hope for the best in Manitoba specific draw . Occupation: Certified Nursing Assistant (NOC 33102) IELTS Score: Listening – 7.0 Reading – 5.5 Writing – 7.0 Speaking – 6.0 Overall Band – 6.5 Education: B.Sc in Business Administration (WES evaluation in progress) Work Experience: 4+ years experience as a care aide/nurse assistant Age: 28 years old Marital Status: single Children: 3 kids My Key Questions: Can I open an Express Entry profile with the IELTS score above? I know Express Entry requires CLB 7 minimum for FSW. I does that disqualify me outright, or can I still submit and remain in the pool? Since Express Entry might not be feasible for now, I am going the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) route actively applying for nurse aide jobs on: Canada Job Bank SaskJobs (Saskatchewan) Work in Manitoba Atlantic province boards (NB, NS, PEI) However, for some provinces like Manitoba and Saskatchewan, I’m seeing I need to open an EOI (Expression of Interest) profile.
Should I open an EOI profile now even though I don’t have a job offer yet, or is it only after receiving a job offer that I should do that? I'm confused about this part and don’t want to make any mistakes. Finally, what’s your best advice at this stage? I’m working hard every day to submit applications, follow up, and track job offers. I just need to know if I’m doing it right and how to position myself better or if I should consider other pathways. Any help, direction, or correction from those more experienced would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance. I submitted an application to SINP but I didn’t get anything from them because my education and job experience doesn’t match. Sinp requires a matching job experience and education . In my opinion, you stand a better chance with Manitoba specific healthcare draw. Last year Manitoba issue LAA to candidate with the minimum of 514 points. But recently sinp refunded some people’s full application fee. If you have funds for 1 , go for Manitoba instead of SINP. Moreover it’s been a while SINP invited noc 33102 . I know this because I applied for it before my consultant said they don’t invite noc 33102 often in sask. |

Deal with that community with two eyes open and not a sheepish / dovish mentality Not all are like that But the sample size of those who are are significant enough to cause u problems IF you get to deal with them
Again, you don't have to take my word for it, or the experiences others have shared, sometimes experience IS THE BEST TEACHER, as Again, some of our fellow Nigerians have shared in the last 20 pages of this thread
Dear Compatriots It's up to you 💯 I live in Europe, had an Indian landlord, despite not destroying his apartment, he sat on our 8k worth CAD and added extra to fix his apartment that he claimed we messed up. We took him to housing court, he brought an edited bad apartment images, thankfully we made a video after vacating the apartment with the time and date. Most are good from distance but transacting business with them is a NO for me. Know this and know peace please. |

But less competitive for domestic students competing with international students! Thanks for your response. I sent you a mail though. funkyy598: CPR and First Aid certification can be completed in a one-day training session, including both lecture and practical components. These certifications are not only offered by Canadian colleges but also by globally recognized organizations like the Red Cross, which provides them worldwide at cheaper rate . Therefore, focus primarily on obtaining the main Health Care Aide certificate Thanks again. I stay online looking for HCA certification online. Please if you know any institution offering it online, please let me know. I've sent an email to TRU about their online requirement too. |

[quote author=funkyy598 post=133427794]What you need to secure a job is a Health Care Aide Certificate from a recognized program. Thompson Rivers University is a well-recognized university in Canada and will not run a program that is not recognized. Additionally, you need CPR and First Aid Certification, which are the most important requirements to secure a Health Care
Thanks for your prompt response must the cpr and First Aid certification be obtained from a canadian college? |

Hi everyone, i have applied for my PR via MPNP and Brandon as our destination. Canada is our plan B instead of moving back to 9ja if we cannot meet with our extension requirement anymore in Europe. My fear is about how difficult it is to get a job in Canada. After going through threads on Nairaland, I read about getting a certification that will help one to secure a job asap. My job description is no 33102 nurse aid/ patient associate and I thought about doing a health care aid program online before getting landing in Brandon. The only program I saw in Brandon is rendered in Assiniboine college but I need a study permit refusal letter if I will not be able to meet up with my study on campus date to get my tuition deposit refunded and that makes it a No. The other option I saw was Thompson Rivers University online/distance HCA program and my question is that can I use it to secure a job in Manitoba? The job openings that I have seen so far just require a recognized HCA certification. Any advice, recommendations will be appreciated. Thank you. |

Good evening house, I’m here to solicit for your prayers. I have suffered on this pregnancy like none of my previous pregnancies and I don’t want to lose it. I’m abroad. I did a scan in 6 weeks and I was told all is well with a single baby, but it is compulsory here to have a 1st trimester scan between the 11th-14th week. I went in for my scan today and we were told we are expecting twins same placenta and sac(mono twins). The doctor said one is fine and the other has fluid around the neck and little fluid in the lungs(almost same weight ) and termed healthy* I do not want to say otherwise *. She said because they carry the same genes, they are likely to be both affected so she scheduled another scan for 2 weeks time to check for improvement in the affected twin. And to check both babies at 16weeks for any abnormal chromosomes. If found, then, we may need to consider termination. I rejected it termination because I’ve read a lot of people say they were told same while they birthed their babies being healthy and fine. I’m lost, confused and all. I just need your prayers. We are 11weeks 3days today. The fear of losing one is heartbreaking while the fear of both is mind and soul wrecking. Please house, put us in your prayers. I regretted opting for the test at some point because the tension is too much because knowing will change absolutely nothing. |

I have 95% doubt now. Canada uses vfs for biometric, no applicant enters Canadian embassy in Nigeria . You can’t apply for Canadian work permit without LMIA, employment contract, job interview by employer, certificate of criminal record, biometric and lastly medicals. Non of the mentioned happened.Non!!!! no Ielts for visa application purpose. Go through Canadian embassy website… IRCC the processing time for work permit for Nigerians is 64 weeks which is being updated every Tuesday night. My advice is ,rely on it success rate to be 15% so many things doesn’t add up about them. |
