Foreign AffairsCitizens of SWISS to get $2,800 by aytevans(op):
Recently, there has been a spate of popular initiatives designed to curb inequality in the country. Earlier this year Swiss voters agreed to an idea proposed by entrepreneur Thomas Minder that limited executive (in his words, "fat cat"wink salaries of companies listed on the Swiss stock market. Next month voters will decide on the 1:12 Initiative, which aims to limit the salaries of CEOs to 12 times the salary of their company's lowest paid employee.

There's a crazier proposal than this, however. Earlier this month an initiative aimed at giving every Swiss adult a "basic income" that would "ensure a dignified existence and participation in the public life of the whole population" gained enough support to qualify for a referendum. The amount suggested is 2,500 francs ($2,800) a month.

While most observers think that the vote is a longshot, it has certainly sparked debate — and not just in Switzerland. Writing for USA Today, Duncan Black said that a "minimum income" should be considered for the U.S.
"It's pretty clear that the most efficient way to improve the lives of people is to guarantee a minimum income," Black concludes.

However, Black understates just how radical the proposal is. We spoke to Daniel Straub, one of the people behind the initiative, to get a better understanding of what the proposal really means, why it is so radical, and what the world could learn from it.

Business Insider: Can you tell me a little bit about how the idea came to be?

Daniel Straub: A lot of people have proposed this idea. For example Thomas Paine in the United States or also the famous psychologist Erich Fromm has written about it in the sixties.

BI: Why choose a minimum income rather than, say, a higher minimum wage?

DS: We are not proposing a minimum income — we are proposing an unconditional income.

A minimum wage reduces freedom — because it is an additional rule. It tries to fix a system that has been outdated for a while. It is time to partly disconnect human labor and income. We are living in a time where machines do a lot of the manual labor — that is great — we should be celebrating.

BI: How was the figure of 2,500 Swiss francs settled on? What standard of living does this buy in Switzerland?

DS: That depends where in Switzerland you live. On average it is enough for a modest lifestyle.

BI: What effect would you expect the minimum income to have on Swiss government expenditure?

DS: The unconditional income in Switzerland means that a third of the GDP would be distributed unconditionally. But I don't count that as government expenditure because it is immediately distributed to the people who live in this society. It means less government power because each individual can decide how to spend the money.

BI: I've seen people compare it to Milton Friedman's negative income tax, do you think that comparison works?

DS: We go a step further than Friedman with the unconditionality. This would lead to a paradigm change. Not the needy get an income from the community but everybody.

BI: There have been a variety of initiatives recently that appear to be aimed at limiting inequality in Switzerland, from the 1:12 initiative to Thomas Minder's "against rip-off salaries" referendum. Why do you think this is happening?

DS: People seem to be unhappy with the rising inequality. The other initiatives try to put a band-aid on an outdated system. We are proposing a new system.

TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by aytevans(m):
Well, it depends on how established the business is.

@ VICJUSTICS..
How do I prove my business establishment to them? quit confusing me brother, it is not common for someone here to student Transportation design major in Automobile there. I though of writing a CV or cover letter explaining my current activities in my business and skill about my proposed course.
1. I do buy and sell cars but dont really have a garage yet, using a mechanic park
2. I have knowledge in auto mechanic repair
3. I did my trade test in electrical electronic
4. Good use of graphic packages in which I am proposing to publish a website that contains all model of cars I drew in past and current.
5. I also use my business for computer training, resource center.
Will these qualify me as a business owner to apply for the visa?
TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by aytevans(m): 5:55pm On Sep 06, 2012
Vicjustice: Personal Current Account is the best suitable for visa application.
If the account meets the requirement as explained in the original post, then you can use it

If you can satisfy the visa officer that the fund in the Dorm Account is available for your use, then you can use it.

Well, it depends on how established the business is.

Where is it written that you need to be 90 years old before you can apply for a visa?

How would a 26 years old MAN need a letter from his dad before he can apply for a Visa that pertains to his own business
Adding such "back-up" letter from your dad may make you appear juvenile rather than a self employed businessman
@Vicjustics I was thinking about it since my dad will be given me a letter of consent to the embassy, so I felt I should introduce him through the ministry where he works
TravelRe: Main Reasons Many Are Refused Visas by aytevans(m): 6:41pm On Sep 05, 2012
Hi nairalanders, please I need an explanation concerning my case urgently.
I applied for Transportation Design in Italy and I was given admission for a year course which I am about making some payments, the tuition fee for a year is 6850euro. Now the questions are:

I will be applying for study visa next month, can I use my current account statement which i am currently doing transactions on it almost everyday and am planning of keeping 1.2m balance for my financing?.

I want to also use my DORM ACCT which i have been using for few transactions but planning of having 3,000USD as balance.

I operate a registered company which includes automobile services such as sales and repair and I represent the owner and manager. Can I use the C.A.C as backup or supporting docs and prove that i will be coming back?

I am 26yrs of age, i hope that wont be a negative impact?

Can I used a backup letter from my father who is working at Education HQ. Abuja but wont be using his Bank statement.

newacca: cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy Oh yea! Al'hamdulillah! My wife had been issued visa to study in Italy. ITALIA ALL THE WAY. FORZA AZZURRI! She just called on fone. I packaged all the application myself. Though she was refused last year cos she didnt included her result. we thought it wasn't necessary+ no one gave us specific requirement even at the consulate in VI. No kinda typed or written list. Imagine! A security was called in to tell all basic requirements off hand. This made me to revolve around d reasons of denial and got where thd prob was. I fired again and she had been granted. I'm over d moon right now. MAA-SHA ALLAH.
She is on her way home now...
She will be heading to Firenze to study her interest of course: FASHION DESIGN
I could see an Int'l fashion designer in the making. I can tell u. those Italo visa officers here r time wasters ooo. no shakigs.
ciao
Congrat. Happy for you and your wife.. please let the house know what you did submit, where u made your submission, the time your submitted and the amount you paid

yes Going to Abuja for application
TravelRe: Italian Student Visa-help! by aytevans(m): 2:47pm On Jul 13, 2012
Thanks, appreciate so much.
My little concern about it all is that the legalization might affect and getting it might take much time before applying.
I think I will rather prefer to use the embassy at abuja rather than that of Lagos.

PLEASE!!!! can u give me an estimate of accommodation in TORINO? and would you advise me to use hotel reservation because the Institution has no accommodation for now though I spoke with one of them about it and She says it might be possible getting a cheaper accommodation while the graduating student leaves by September.
TravelRe: Italian Student Visa-help! by aytevans(m): 9:56pm On Jul 12, 2012
I really thank you all for enormous contribution towards prospecting student life.
I will like to ask one or two questions

1. How long those it take to get a study visa
2. I have been given an offer letter to proceed with enrollment payment of 2500 Eur, without asking for legalizing of any of my document, though its a diploma course. Will these not affect the visa issuance?
3. The amount that will be good enough as proof of fund on bank statement?
4. Applying from LAGOS OR ABUJA, which is better?
5. Will i be needing health insurance, ticket reservation and hotel booking?

Please, i will appreciate clear answers to these questions.
GOD BLESS
