RH–NHGSFP flags off ‘Snacks for Thought’ breakfast initiative for schools in Kano The Renewed Hope–National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (RH–NHGSFP) has flagged off the “Snacks for Thought” breakfast Initiative in selected primary schools in Kano State. The motive of the initiative, which is a special pilot under the RH–NHGSFP, is to ensure that every child starts the day with nourishment, focus, confidence, and the freedom to dream. The selected pilot schools in Kano State for the Initiative are Sumaila Special Primary School, Kofar Nasarawa Primary School, Ganduje Nomadic School and Magwan Primary School. Speaking during the flag-off ceremony held at Kofar Nasarawa Primary School in Kano State, the National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope–National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, Dr Princess Aderemi Adebowale, said President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda places children at the center of national transformation. “This is more than food. It is love. It is dignity. It is a loud declaration that the Nigerian child matters. Every day, too many children sit in classrooms with empty stomachs. Hunger becomes the first lesson of the day. So I asked myself how can a child learn effectively when hunger is already winning the battle? This gave birth to “Snacks for Thought” It ensures every child starts the day with nourishment, focus, confidence, and the freedom to dream. “At the federal level, we continue the core school lunch programme that empowers smallholder farmers, supports women food vendors and engages youth in monitoring and evaluation. The PBAT Feeds Breakfast is a complementary initiative that embraces CSR, philanthropy, private-sector leadership, and community participation. Development becomes truly sustainable only when everyone joins hands,” Adebowale said. She added: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda places children at the center of national transformation. Every breakfast served builds human capital, strengthens education outcomes, and invests in the productivity of tomorrow’s workforce. “Our duty is to make sure every pupil finds a pathway from hunger to hope. No child should learn on an empty stomach!” Princess Adebowale also commended public and private organisations for supporting the initiative. “We deeply appreciate our partners from NIMC, TechnoServe, and the committed leaders from the business community. Your response to this call affirms that progress is fastest when communities drive the wheel of change. “We also celebrate the unwavering support of the Kano State government. Kano represents the heart of learning and commerce in our nation. When a programme scales in Kano, the rest of Nigeria feels the impact,” Adebowale said.

REVOP: FG launches new revenue system to eliminate leakages, boost transparency The Federal government has launched a new technology-driven revenue system, the Revenue Optimisation and Assurance Project, REVOP, an initiative designed to redefine how the nation tracks, collects, and manages its public finances. It also launched the Federal Treasury Receipt (FTR) a groundbreaking reform that provides a single, standardised, and digitally verifiable proof of all payments made into the Federal Government account. The FTR ensures that every government-issued receipt directly corresponds to funds received into government accounts. REVOP was championed by the Federal Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS At the formal presentation of the REVOP initiative during the 31st National Economic Summit in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr. Wale Edun, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthen fiscal responsibility through innovation and technology. He described REVOP as a cornerstone of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, which focuses on stabilization, recovery, and growth. The Minister further said it represents a unified effort to safeguard every kobo of public revenue through innovation, automation, and accountability by bringing all revenues under a single, technology-driven framework that promotes transparency and fiscal discipline. Edun said REVOP was created to identify, collect, reconcile, monitor, and protect government revenues across all Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and Federal Government-Owned Enterprises (FGOEs). “It is our determination to make sure we bring in every single penny. There’s federal government money lying outside the TSA, lying outside of the Central Bank, and it requires enforcement, consensus, and the right use of technology.” Designed to implement the Central Billing System (CBS) of the government which became operational on October 1, REVOP allows for instant reconciliation of government payments, giving public finance managers real-time visibility of transactions. Edun described the system as a “game changer” in public financial management, capable of eliminating long-standing inefficiencies and leakages. Other aspects of the initiative include the Revenue Splitting Engine, Treasury Management System, and Revenue Monitoring Dashboard which are designed to ensure that every transaction within the government’s revenue chain is visible, verifiable, and traceable. Aside from its technology-driven system, REVOP will help to rebuild trust in public finance and empower policymakers with accurate financial intelligence and enable more effective decision-making. It will also strengthen fiscal transparency and ensure that every government revenue stream can be monitored in real time representing a shift from a paper-driven, reactive system to a transparent, proactive, and technology-enabled model. “Our goal is simple but vital: every naira earned by the government must be visible, traceable, and used responsibly for the benefit of Nigerians. REVOP is a bold and practical step toward that vision, one that builds trust, strengthens accountability, and supports sustainable growth,” Edun said. With the rollout of REVOP, Nigeria is not just digitizing its financial systems, it is laying the foundation for a transparent, accountable, and technology-driven future. The project signals a new era in which public finance is managed with precision, integrity, and foresight, ensuring that every kobo counts toward national development.

According to the statement, Bajulaye noted that Lagos as the largest economy in Sub-Sahara Africa is in the cynosure of all, hence the important role of Lagos Traffic Radio in contributing to the T.H.E.M.E.S + agenda of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration. "We’ll look at possibilities of opening new frontiers so that, like, people in the diaspora we will also be able to give them information as it affects traffic in Lagos because Lagos is not compared to any state of the federation. We're compared to states and nations of the world, that's why we talk about being a mega city and the largest economy in sub-Saharan West Africa. So, whatever we do, all eyes are on us. A state that will not have one-tenth of the traffic that we have, if they try to talk about traffic, they won't be doing anything,” the statement quoted Bajulaye. "What we are doing is, we are meeting the needs and the yearnings of the people and so we're doing a very, very good job, and we should keep it up. I want us to look at other areas that people have not delved into", it added Earlier while welcoming the Permanent Secretary and his team, the General Manager, Lagos Traffic Radio, Mr. Tayo Akanle, congratulated him for a well-deserved appointment and redeployment to his home base, the Ministry of Information and Strategy, which he said would solidify his experience over the years in service. Akanle reeled out all the reforms, initiatives and innovations of the Station in line with the Letter 'T' of the T.H.E.M.E.S + Agenda embarked on by the station in the last 13 years, including on the waterways, railway, flight schedule, live camera update, live motorbike Incidents camera reports, with the establishment of a Booster Station in Ikorodu and another in the pipeline in Ibeju-Lekki axis of the state to boost the station's signal. Mr. Akanle stated that the Station targets to increase its Live Camera Feeds in collaboration with the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology from the current 300 to over 3000 to enhance more visibility from the studios. "This is a station that was established purposely to provide information, traffic information and travel advisory for motorists, not only in Lagos, but within the neighbouring states in the last 13 years and in all honesty, the station has not digressed and deviated from that just cause to which it was established. It has moved from point to point, it has moved from leaps and bound, it has made progress 13 years down the line and I am so happy not only because I am head of this agency now, but because all of us here have put up a lot of efforts towards ensuring that we have gotten to this position that we are today". Mr.Akanle hinted that the Station also witnessed increased social media engagements on its Facebook from 4,000 in 2019 to 100,000 followers currently while the X handle rose from 15,000 to 55,000 followers. Sanwo-Olu promises to deliver Opebi-Mende bridge, other projects before end of tenure Ayodele Olalere Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has promised to open the Opebi-Mende link bridge by the end of this year as well as deliver other ongoing projects before the end of his tenure in 2027. The governor spoke through his Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso at a briefing at the weekend to intimate the public on plans by the administration to complete all projects. Omotoso noted that many major projects will be completed by the Sanwo-Olu/Hamzat led administration by the end of this year and next year. He promised that no ongoing projects will be abandoned by the administration without being completed before the next administration. “ All of the beautiful projects that you see that we have started, we are going to complete them. The new Massey Hospital is almost completed. The Opebi-Mende link Bridge will be commissioned before the end of the year. What is left is what I can call finishing touches and you know, it's not just the building that makes a hospital, it must be equipped.,” Omotoso said. He added: ‘But all I know is that by next year, that hospital will be commissioned. Then the General Hospital in Ojo too is going to be completed. Some of our food hubs are already completed and we will commission them very soon. It is the kind of hub that can store food. If there is famine in the land, it can feed like 5million people for at least three months and if there is so much food inflation and prices are going up, If you release some of the items that you have in the logistics, it can reduce prices. So it's a kind of facility that should excite all of us. ‘’Some other projects like roads that we have started, all of them are going to be completed. I do not see anyone that may be so big that we won't be able to complete.’’ Omotoso also mentioned that the construction of the second phase of the Blue Line Rail and Red Line which are ongoing will be completed before Governor Sanwo-Olu leaves office while work will begin on the Green Rail before the end of the administration. On housing, he said aside from the Ajara housing estate in Badagry that was commissioned a few weeks ago, the Odo-onosa housing project in Sangotedo is also ready. ‘’So all of these projects, they are not projects that we can abandon. It's not in the DNA of the APC administration to abandon projects. They are projects that we are very proud of, and the government is going to complete them. No project is going to be abandoned. Very soon, we are going to commission what I can call the biggest school anywhere in West Africa in a place that all of you know that you may not even feel that you will ever have that kind of facility in Ajegunle. It's a massive school that is something that one can describe as amazing, wonderful and magical. So there is no project that will be left undone, ’’ he promised. On the 2025 budget, Omotoso said the administration recorded 80% performance of its N3.366 trillion budget and another 80% in terms of capital projects. He said every community in Lagos has felt the positive effects of Sanwo-Olu’s administration Contrary to insinuations that the demolition of some plazas carried out by the state government at the Trade Fair had tribal colouration, Omotoso said the exercise was not targeted at a particular tribe. “It's terrible for anybody to be making such suggestions. It's absurd, unthinkable. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has governed Lagos now for about six years and in those six years, nobody has come out to complain that he has had anything to do with any segregation, discrimination either in terms of religion, colour or racism. ‘All of those things that they are talking about are things that people who don't even know us are talking about, people who don't even live in Lagos. ‘’Some of those things that you see on social media, you go and check out all of those who are perpetrating them. They are people who don't live here, who live millions of miles away..How can you build a house without a permit? It's not done anywhere. The Trade Fair is owned by the federal government but what the law says according to the Supreme Court judgement of 2003 Attorney General of Lagos versus Attorney General of Federation, supported by other states who came into the matter, is that only the states have the permission, the right and powers to issue permits for anybody to go and build. That is the way it's done all over the world. If you go to New York, Los Angeles, Mumbai, Chicago, everywhere, you must obtain a building permit before you can build. ’So I do not want to say people are ignorant, but honestly, there is so much to be desired, that people can go and build skyscrapers and then you ask them for their papers, the building permit and they don't have any. They think that they can build anyhow the way they like and turn the whole place into a slum.” Omotoso noted.

Customer relationship, the oxygen that keeps business alive- CX Expert With 15 years of progressive experience spanning customer engagement, investor relations, and strategic leadership, Temiloluwa Adetola has continued to set new standards globally. He has created and extended new frontiers in communication and strategy to posit that customers are the bedrock of successful businesses. In this interview, he spoke on how having good relationships with customers is essential to the survival of a business. How important is the customer relationship to the survival of a business?* The customer relationship is not just important, it’s absolutely essential to the survival and growth of any business. I often say that customers are the heartbeat of an organization, because without them, nothing else matters , not the product, not the brand, not even the most brilliant marketing strategy. Businesses exist because there are people (market) to patronize them. Today’s customers are empowered. They have options, they have information, and they have a voice that can influence thousands of others instantly through social media and online reviews. Because of that, maintaining a strong, trust-based relationship with customers has become one of the most strategic assets a business can have. Think about it, most products can be copied, and competitors can easily match your prices or features. But what they can’t replicate is the emotional connection you build with your customers the feeling that your brand listens, understands, and values them. That’s where long-term loyalty is born. When customers feel genuinely cared for, they don’t just buy once; they come back, they refer others, and they often spend more. On the flip side, when businesses neglect their customer relationships, maybe through poor service, lack of empathy, or inconsistent experiences, the impact is immediate and visible. Churn increases, negative word-of-mouth spreads, and acquisition costs skyrocket because the business is constantly trying to replace lost customers. So in many ways, customer relationships are the oxygen that keeps a business alive. It’s not a “nice-to-have” or something to be handled only by the support team, it’s an organization-wide philosophy that determines whether a business thrives or fades away. The companies that truly understand this, the ones that embed CX into their culture, tend to weather economic challenges better, innovate faster, and build brands that people trust for years. What will you say are the qualities expected of a professional customer service officer? I like to think of customer service professionals as the face and voice of a brand. They are the people who bring a company’s values to life in every interaction. Because of that, the qualities expected of a professional in this space go far beyond just product knowledge or communication skills , it’s really about a combination of empathy, curiosity, and accountability. The first and most important quality is empathy. A great customer service professional must be able to understand not just what a customer is saying, but also how they’re feeling. Customers often reach out when something has gone wrong, they may be frustrated, anxious, or confused. The ability to genuinely listen, acknowledge their emotion, and respond with patience and compassion is what turns a negative experience into a moment of trust. The second quality is effective communication. This includes clarity, tone, and emotional intelligence. Great service professionals know how to express themselves clearly and confidently, while keeping their tone warm and reassuring. Whether it’s through phone, email, or chat, they know how to make the customer feel heard and valued. The third is problem-solving. Customers don’t just want apologies; they want solutions. A professional customer service agent should be resourceful, someone who can think critically, analyze situations quickly, and take initiative to resolve issues, even if that means going beyond the script or escalating wisely. Then there’s resilience and emotional control. Working in customer service can be emotionally demanding. You deal with pressure, high expectations, and sometimes difficult conversations. Professionals who can remain calm, focused, and positive in these moments are the ones who sustain long-term success in CX. Another critical quality is continuous learning. Customer expectations evolve, technology changes, and new tools emerge all the time. Professionals who are curious and open to learning new systems, processes, and soft skills stay relevant and valuable to their organizations. Finally, there’s ownership and accountability. Exceptional service professionals take personal responsibility for each interaction. They don’t pass the blame; they own the issue until it’s resolved. That sense of accountability builds confidence with customers and strengthens the brand’s reputation. So in summary, a professional customer service personnel is someone who combines empathy, communication, problem-solving, resilience, learning agility, and accountability. Those qualities, when nurtured and supported by the right leadership and culture, create customer experiences that stand out — and those are the experiences customers never forget. How do you deal with a difficult client and gain his or her trust? Dealing with a difficult client is one of the defining tests of a true customer experience professional. It’s in those challenging moments that a brand’s values and a person’s professionalism are truly revealed. The first step in handling a difficult client is to separate the person from the problem. Most of the time, customers become difficult not because they want to be, but because they’re frustrated, anxious, or feel unheard. So, my initial focus is not on defending the company, but on understanding the customer’s emotion. I listen, really listen to what they’re saying and what they’re not saying. That act of listening alone often starts to defuse tension. Once the customer feels heard, I move to acknowledge their frustration and validate their experience. A simple, sincere statement like “I completely understand how that must have felt” or “I can see why this situation would be frustrating” can go a long way. It’s about showing empathy before offering explanations. People don’t trust logic until they feel seen emotionally. After that, I focus on clarity and ownership. I summarize their concern to ensure we’re aligned, and then I take responsibility for guiding the resolution process even if other departments are involved. Customers should never feel like they’re being passed around. When they see that you’re taking personal ownership of their issue, trust begins to rebuild. The next step is transparency and follow-through. I believe trust grows when customers see consistency between what you say and what you do. If I promise to call back in an hour, I call back even if there’s no new update. Silence destroys trust faster than mistakes do. Keeping communication open reassures the client that you’re genuinely working on their behalf. It’s also important to maintain emotional control. When a client is upset, matching their energy or becoming defensive only escalates things. Staying calm, composed, and professional no matter how intense the situation creates a sense of stability that the client can rely on. Finally, after resolving the issue, I like to go one step further: follow up personally. A quick check-in to ensure they’re satisfied or to thank them for their patience turns a negative situation into a memorable recovery moment. Many “difficult clients” eventually become loyal advocates because they saw that, when things went wrong, we didn’t abandon them — we showed up with empathy, accountability, and consistency. In short, you gain a difficult client’s trust not by being perfect, but by being present, empathetic, and dependable. When people see that you care more about their satisfaction than about being right, you turn confrontation into connection — and that’s the heart of great customer experience. Do you share the saying that ‘customer is always right and customer is the King? If yes, expantiate.? That’s a classic statement “the customer is always right” and while it captures an important truth about customer-centricity, I like to say that it needs to be understood in context. The idea behind the phrase is not that customers are literally right in every situation, but that their perception and experience are what ultimately define the success of a business. So yes, in that sense, the customer is king because they hold the power to choose, to stay, to leave, and to influence others about your brand. However, I don’t believe in taking the phrase at face value. In my years of CX experience, I’ve learned that what truly matters is not always agreeing with the customer, but understanding them. Sometimes customers may have incomplete information, unrealistic expectations, or emotional reactions that don’t reflect the full picture and that’s okay. The job of a customer experience professional is to listen, empathize, and guide the customer toward clarity and resolution in a respectful and professional way. When we treat the customer as “king,” it shouldn’t mean we devalue employees or bend every rule just to please them. It should mean we design our systems, processes, and culture around customer value ensuring that every decision we make ultimately benefits the customer and strengthens the relationship. That’s what true customer-centricity means. I also believe that for the “customer is king” philosophy to work, the king must also have responsible subjects meaning well-trained, empowered employees who understand how to balance empathy with policy, and who feel supported by their organization. A customer-first culture begins internally; you can’t have happy customers if you have frustrated or unsupported employees. So yes, I do share the spirit behind that saying. The customer is at the center of every sustainable business; they are the reason the business exists in the first place. But I believe the modern interpretation should be: “The customer’s voice is always important, but the customer’s truth and the company’s integrity must work hand in hand.” When we balance empathy for customers with empowerment for employees, we create relationships that are fair, respectful, and lasting. That’s how both sides win — and that’s what exceptional customer experience is all about. There are fears that technology, especially AI, will soon take over business space leading to loss of jobs. What is your take? This is a question I get asked quite often, and it’s a very valid concern, the agitation is palpable everywhere, especially in customer experience, where automation and AI tools are becoming more advanced by the day. My take is this: AI will not replace people, but people who know how to use AI effectively will replace those who don’t. Technology and AI in particular is transforming how businesses operate, communicate, and serve customers. We see it in chatbots, predictive analytics, automation, and personalization engines. But the goal of this evolution shouldn’t be to eliminate humans, it should be to elevate them. AI should handle the repetitive, data-heavy, and routine tasks so that humans can focus on what we do best: building relationships, solving complex problems, and bringing empathy into interactions. In fact, when used properly, AI can make customer experience teams more powerful. Imagine having insights at your fingertips; AI can analyze thousands of customer interactions to highlight pain points or predict churn patterns. That empowers CX professionals to take smarter actions faster. It’s not replacing the job; it’s enhancing the impact of the job. However, the fear of job loss usually stems from two things: lack of understanding and lack of preparation. Businesses that simply plug in AI tools without reskilling their people or redesigning their workflows create anxiety. But those that focus on training, teaching employees how to work alongside technology, actually create new roles and opportunities. We’re already seeing this shift: roles like AI trainer, CX data analyst, automation specialist, and customer journey architect are emerging. These roles didn’t exist a few years ago. So yes, the nature of jobs will change, but work itself isn’t disappearing, it’s evolving. My philosophy is that technology should serve humanity, not replace it. The human element empathy, creativity, judgment, and ethics, cannot be automated. Customers still crave genuine connection, even in a digital world. That’s why I believe the most successful companies in the future will be those that find the perfect blend: the efficiency of AI combined with the authenticity of human interaction. So rather than fearing AI, we should see it as a partner (Copilot), one that frees us from the repetitive and empowers us to focus on what truly differentiates great businesses: their people and their ability to connect meaningfully with customers. Relate some experiences in your years of dealing with customers? Over the past 15 years in customer experience across different industries, telecommunications, IT, and fintech, I’ve had countless encounters that shaped how I view customers and the business world as a whole. Each industry has its own rhythm, but one truth is constant: behind every ticket, every complaint, and every call, there’s a human being trying to be understood. One of my most memorable experiences happened early in my career, while I was still handling frontline phone support, at a telecommunication company in Nigeria. I received a call from a customer who was extremely upset about a billing issue. His tone was sharp, and it would have been easy to take it personally, but something told me to just listen. After about ten minutes of explaining, she paused and said, “You’re the first person who’s actually listened to me today” and that’s because he had been calling and several other agents had been putting him on hold and after a few minutes hung the call on him. In fact, when I heard that, my heart went out to him. That moment changed everything for him and for me. Once he felt heard, the anger turned into a conversation. We eventually resolved his issue, and before ending the call, he thanked me sincerely. That day taught me that listening is not passive, it’s the most active and powerful tool in customer service. Sometimes customers don’t need a miracle; they just need empathy. In another experience, when I transitioned into a managerial role, I worked with a fintech company that was scaling quickly. As volume grew, the support team started to feel overwhelmed, and customer satisfaction began to drop. Instead of blaming the team or the customers, I conducted a CX audit, mapping the customer journey and analyzing response data. We discovered that 40% of customer frustrations were due to a lack of proactive communication and unclear self-service options. Using that insight, we collaborated with the product team, restructured our workflows, improved ticket routing in and auto-responder in Zendesk, and built a more intuitive interface. Within two months, our response times dropped significantly, and the contact driver marking the issue improved by 70%, and perhaps most importantly, the team felt empowered again. That experience reaffirmed my belief that CX excellence is never an accident , it’s the result of empathy combined with data, process clarity and cross-functional acumen. I’ve also learned from the challenging moments, like the times when things didn’t go as planned. There were customers I couldn’t satisfy immediately, but those experiences taught me the value of transparency and follow-through. When customers see that you’re doing your best and you keep them informed, many of them turn into loyal advocates even after a bad experience. Altogether, my journey has reinforced one core principle: customer experience is about people helping people. Whether you’re on the phone, managing a team, or analyzing dashboards, the human connection is what drives success. Every interaction is an opportunity — not just to solve a problem, but to build trust. And that’s the mindset I carry into every project, every consultation, and every conversation about CX.

Chief Fanimokun was honoured alongside other prominent Nigerians and former students of the school such as Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, The Olor’ogun Dr Sunny Folorunso Kuku, , Chief Wole Olanipekun, Dr. John Momoh, Chief Kessington Adebutu and Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, among others. While giving reasons for conferring the award on Chief Fanimokun, the President Worldwide, Unilag Alumni Association, Ifeoluwa Oyedele commended Fanimokun for his philanthropic gesture towards the university. He noted that Chief Fanimokun has donated projects worth over N25billion to the university despite the fact that he did not attend the university. He commended Fanimokun for his commitment to education in Nigeria through financial donations and projects to several universities across the country. Reacting to the award, Chief Fanimokun said the award was in recognition of what he has been doing for the university over the years, adding that the award will motivate him to do more. “The award is an appreciation of what I have been doing for the university . University of Lagos is an outstanding university. I didn't attend there but I have been doing a lot to support the alumni association. The university has produced lots of great Nigerians,” Fanimokun said He added: “ I appreciate education, it's the passport to the future. Any country that wants to survive must give education priority. If you can not do free education, make sure 25% of the budget is on education but because of many commitments in Nigeria, no government has been able to do that. So individuals should rally around the government by supporting them . Chief Fanimokun noted that the world has advanced in technology compared to when he attended university and urged the government to leverage on the use of technology to lift the standard of education in Nigeria. We are now in a digital age so every government should keep pace with development. As for other philanthropists , it depends on individual orientation. Philanthropy is based on extra wealth and you must give for what you believe in. Extra money earned is like manure, if you put it on the same spot, it will smell, but if you spread it, it will fertilize so many things.” Chairman of the occasion, Dr. Sunny Kuku said the awardees were carefully selected for their contributions to the society. “The alumni association of UNILAG is the most sought after alumni.
