Lagos warns Senate over move to pass Central Gaming Bill The Lagos State government has said that the moves by the National Assembly to pass the Central Gaming Bill is an affront to the judgement of the Supreme Court and expressed concerns over its constitutionality of the bill. The bill, which aims to regulate online gaming and lotteries across Nigeria, has been met with opposition from Lagos State, which argues that it encroaches on states' rights. According to the Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, while speaking at a briefing at Alausa, the Supreme Court had, in a landmark judgment delivered on October 13, 2024, ruled that lotteries, betting, gaming, and other games of chance were residual matters falling within the exclusive legislative competence of states, except in the Federal Capital Territory. Pedro, who argued that the Central Gaming Bill, if passed, would be an affront to the Supreme Court's judgment and a violation of the constitution, emphasized that the National Assembly lacks the competence to regulate lotteries and gaming, as the matters were not included in the Exclusive Legislative List. Pedro warned that if the National Assembly proceeds with the Bill, it would amount to defying a binding Supreme Court decision, encroaching upon state powers, and potentially leading to constitutional chaos. He urged the Senate to decline concurrence to the Bill, citing the importance of respecting the rule of law, constitutionalism, and federalism. “It is my considered view that when the Supreme Court after interpreting the Constitution of Nigeria granted an order of perpetual injunction restraining the Federal Government and its agencies from regulating gaming and lotteries throughout Nigeria, it means that the matter was forever settled , permanently closed unless and until the Constitution itself is amended. To now attempt to legislate again on the same subject is to defy the Supreme Court, to violate the Constitution, and to invite constitutional chaos,’ Pedro said. He added: “ Therefore, I on behalf of Lagos State and other States in particular the 22 States who were co- Plaintiffs granted judgment by the Supreme Court in the case under reference, urge the Senate to decline concurrence to the Central Gaming Bill (HB.2062) in the interest of the rule of law, constitutionalism, federalism and national stability. This is not about Lagos State, It is about Nigeria. It is about protecting the integrity of the Supreme Court and preserving the federation as the Constitution envisions it.” Earlier, Commissioner For Information and Strategy Gbenga Omotoso, said the briefing was a very special one which had to do with a matter of the constitution on the proposed central bill on gaming and lottery at the National Assembly stating that Lagos state had always been at the forefront of respecting the rule of law and do not take it for granted. |

This is another project that we have completed that will showcase the strength of Nigeria. We are very conscious of the fact that we can do it in Nigeria. The artificial intelligence centre comprises Ojaja Mall, Ojaja cinemas, and a shopping mall that will be driven by AI. This area is the most concentrated hub for the middle class in Nigeria from the ages of 25 to 40. We are strategically showcasing that we traditional rulers can make an impact. We don't just sit in our palaces alone but we make an impact in youth engagement and ensure they are relevant in the society. It's a typical example of how we can drive the economy to another level. If the Nigerian government from the local level to the federal government can ensure that everything they are going to use for their projects will be 100% made in Nigeria, it will boost the economy,” Ooni said. He added: “In this centre , we have the biggest cinemas and a mall where over 75,000 made in Nigeria products are displayed for use by the people. So many innovations will come up here and this is our own way of pulling people together to support the government. We don't want to rely on the government alone. We have constructed this in other states too.Youths can display their innovations here. I have over 30million Nigerian youths on social media following what I do so this is my own way of making an impact. Lagos is the seventh state and we will do all the 36 states in the next five years so that it will help youths to develop their potential. This is our way of driving SMEs.” Ooni advised the youths to be courageous in showcasing their talents and not rely on the government alone to provide all they need to succeed. He also urged traditional rulers to always give back to youths in their domain through initiatives. “My advice to youths is that we can not continue to blame the government , we must make impacts like this so the government won't have a choice but to call us . We shouldn't write Nigerian youths off. Our AI centre has the best brains of Nigerian youths and a lot of them are doing well. Traditional rulers should live by example. We should showcase the strength of what we can give to our people. Every traditional ruler should have what he will give back to the society.”

The chairman has also concluded plans to set up a committee in the council to work with the taskforce in achieving the success of the immunisation exercise within the council area. Odumbaku’s decision follows the outcome of the inaugural meeting the taskforce held on Tuesday with the deputy governor of Lagos State, Obafemi Hamzat and the 57 council chairmen at the deputy governor's office where concerns were raised on the need to combat communicable diseases at the grassroots level through immunisation of children. The deputy governor had noted that the council chairmen are pivotal to the state government achieving its objective of preventing diseases such as polio in the state by ensuring the effectiveness of the public health centres in their council areas. Hamzat further urged the chairmen to take the matter seriously and increase their budgets for health centres in their domain as they are the closest to the grassroot, as well as work with the taskforce. While expressing his support for the taskforce at the end of the meeting, Odumbaku said the Ojodu LCDA under his watch is ready to collaborate with the taskforce in ensuring all children within the council area are immunised. Odumbaku added that a committee will be set up by his administration to work out modalities of operation with the taskforce. He also promised to sensitise parents, school proprietors, religious leaders on the importance of allowing their children to be immunised against vaccines preventable diseases. “My administration in Ojodu LCDA is in line with this vaccination campaign by the state. We take seriously the health of our children who are the future generations. To this end since we came on board, we have renovated and rebuilt four public health centres in Apata, Akiode, Powerline and Gbadamosi areas . While the Oluwole health centres have been equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, we are working towards equipping others. We have also employed qualified medical personnel. Kizz Daniel debunks report on court freezing his accounts Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe, known as Kizz Daniel, has debunked a viral report claiming that a court ordered the freezing of his personal and business accounts over a contract dispute. The supposed report, which has gone viral on social media, claimed that the Buga crooner was directed to pay €200,000 in damages for failing to honor a show despite receiving a $50,000 advance payment, and that his accounts with Access Bank were frozen by court order. Reacting, Kizz Daniel through his management team describes the report as false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation. “This is a fluke and a big lie. Kizz Daniel has no such case in court, and no accounts have been frozen. We urge fans, partners, and the general public to disregard this fabricated story,” he noted. The musician further assured that legal steps will be taken against those behind the fake report, emphasizing that he remains focused on his music and upcoming shows. This is not the first time the singer has been the target of false rumors, but his management insists such distractions will not deter him from delivering quality music to his fans worldwide. It is recalled that the promoter of Afrobeats Meets Berlin 2022 actively used Kizz Daniel’s name, image, and likeness along with that of other artists to sell tickets and build hype for a festival that ultimately never happened. Now, all traces of the event have mysteriously vanished from the internet. Social media pages deactivated. No accountability. No explanation. So the question is simple: does the Promoter not owe fans, ticket buyers, and the artists themselves an explanation? Why exploit the brand power of performers only to disappear when it’s time to deliver? Until those questions are answered, it is clear where the responsibility lies and it is not with the artists who were ready to perform, but with the promoter who failed to uphold his own obligations.

Death rumour: Ebenezer Obey threatens legal action against perpetrators of AI generated viral funeral video Juju music legend, Evangelist Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has fumed over his recent death rumour depicted in an AI generated funeral video which has gone viral and threatened legal action against perpetrators. In a statement signed by his lawyer, Akeem-Louis O. Aponmade, Obey said the video which showed a funeral party of his supposed death generated by Artificial Intelligence, AI claimed he has passed on. The statement noted that while the video has been reported to YouTube which has pulled it down, it condemned the move by those behind it to ‘conjure up a story that our client is dead when he is alive, all for the sake of content creation.’ “Our law firm recently became aware of audio-visual content posted on the premier video sharing platform, Youtube, where our client, Evan. (Prof.) Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi (MFR, KCW) was reported to have passed on. The said video has generally been seen as believable as it showed a funeral party replete with an artificially generated male voice-over reporting the purported death of our client. Our client has since issued a statement to deny the report, which shows clearly that the content was fabricated in its entirety. That some person(s) would conceive such a dastardly plot to report that another human being is dead when the subject is alive is an unconscionable act beyond description. We strongly vilify a situation where some person(s) will sit in the comfort of their homes or offices and conjure up a story that our client is dead when he is alive, all for the sake of content creation. They do this without care for the emotional distress and psychological trauma that publishing such falsehoods has brought on his person, family, friends and staff while making a lot of money from their evil conduct. We have observed that this is becoming a pattern of a campaign of calumny against our client as not long ago this year, a false alarm of his death was similarly reported on social media platforms,” the statement stated. It added: “We believe that the creators and purveyors of Chief Commander Obey’s false death report know quite well that they are engaging in an illegal act for which they can be held accountable. First, their conduct constitutes an offence under the Cybercrimes Act 2015 (as amended). Secondly, they have defamed our client and injured him in his profession, he being an active performing artiste and Minister of the gospel. We have taken steps on behalf of our client in line with Youtube’s dispute protocol which has since led to the offensive audio-visual material being geo-blocked and taken down pending further action.” Obey therefore warns that legal action will be taken against perpetrators in future occurrence. “We wish to warn those individuals behind these false reports against taking advantage of the peaceful nature of our client in his roles as a religious leader and Minister of the gospel to cause him harm. These evil persons should be made aware that they cannot hide under the façade of virtual anonymity to perpetrate criminal and tortious acts against Chief Commander Obey as we have the capacity to unmask them. Using all legal means available under the Nigerian legal system, including rules of public international law, any future occurrence of false reporting of our client’s passing will be met with strong and definite action in order to bring the perpetrator(s) to face the full consequences of their unlawful actions. We believe that a word is enough for the wise.” |

Safety: Lagos govt to remove illegal structures under high tension cables in Makoko community Lagos State government is set to remove illegal structures built under high tension cables in Makoko community, Yaba. The move comes after the state through the Office of Urban and Regional Planning removed dilapidated buildings and shanties at the Oworonshoki end of the third mainland bridge in Kosofe Local Government Area. Recently, the state government has held several stakeholders meetings with residents of Makoko, one of the densely populated shanties built on water in Lagos, expressing concerns over the continuous building of shanties under high tension cables thereby posing dangers to residents. The government has also expressed worries over the illegal extension of the shanties to under the third mainland bridge by the residents. Expressing the desire of the state government to ensure the safety of the citizens, the Permanent Secretary, Office of Urban and Regional Development, Arc. Gbolahan Oki said the government will continue the enforcement activity at Makoko community by removing illegal structures in order to prevent looming dangers. “ We have held several meetings with people living in Makoko because many of the shanties are built under high tension cables.. We have told them to move but they have refused. They are even extending to the middle of the third mainland bridge and we have warned them several times. “ Oki said. He added: “ As a government, we don't just start removing buildings, we are working with their community leaders in clearing illegal structures under high tension powerline in Makoko community. If any of those cables falls and anything happens to the people, the blame will be on the government. The lives of the people are more important. They are also encroaching on the third mainland bridge.” Oki said the Babajide Sanwo-Olu's administration is concerned about the safety of the people in the state and will do all to protect the people. “We want to work but some people don't want us to work but we are going to do it. What is bad, is bad, Some people are making money hiding under these bad attitudes but as a people we just have to change,”he said. On the recent demolitions in Oworonshoki area which led to the blockage of the third mainland bridge by the residents, Oki said the state government had, for the past three years, held stakeholders' meetings with the residents on the need for them to regularise their building approvals. Oki added that only two out of the residents complied with the government’s directive in spite of the government’ amnesty period for the regularisation. He said the affected buildings were structurally defective and posed dangers to the people. He also noted that investigations revealed that many of the traffic robberies committed on the third mainland bridge are carried out by residents of the area who run back to the shanties after carrying out their robbery. “ We don't just go to demolish, due process was followed. The buildings demolished were dilapidated and cracked, they just painted them. People also complained that those that rob on the third mainland bridge run back to the shanties,” he said . |
US-Based Nigerian Woman Alleges Exploitation Over Same-Sex Relationship Accusation A United States-based Nigerian woman, Olaore Abosede Gbemisola, has recounted her ordeal in the hands of the police and members of her community after being accused of engaging in a same-sex relationship. Gbemisola, who now resides in the U.S., said she was subjected to arrest, exploitation, and stigmatization in Nigeria following allegations of involvement in homosexuality, an act outlawed under the Same-Sex Marriage Prohibition Act signed into law by former President Goodluck Jonathan on January 7, 2014. The law prescribes 14 years imprisonment for offenders. Narrating her experience, Gbemisola explained that she had traveled to England on November 1, 2014, for a 16-day holiday, and later to the United States on April 1, 2016, where she gave birth to her daughter, Michelle Oluwasikemi Olaore. “On May 15, 2016, after giving birth in the United States, I went back to Nigeria, and that was when I was arrested and exploited by the police. That was why I ran back to the United States on October 30, 2016, because only my U.S. visa was valid at that time, while my U.K. visa had already expired,” she recounted. She alleged that during her arrest, she was “exploited sexually and financially” by law enforcement agents and threatened with a possible jail term, alongside her friend, Tolulope Olutade, who had earlier been detained and accused her of being a same-sex partner. “I suffered stigmatization and rejection from people in my community, including my relations, because of the rumor that I engaged in a same-sex relationship. The police detained me in their car for several hours in my neighborhood, but because my family was able to pay some amount, I was released,” she said. The development echoes other incidents linked to Nigeria’s anti-gay law. In 2019, 47 men were arrested in Egbeda, Lagos State, and tried for alleged public displays of affection with members of the same sex. The men were among 57 picked up during a police raid on a hotel in the area. |
Harassment of Journalists: NUJ asks Sanwo-Olu to caution security aide, Fagbemi The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has called on the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to caution his Chief Security Officer, Mr Kunle Fagbemi, over repeated incidents of harassment of journalists carrying out their lawful duties at the State House l. The most recent incident reportedly took place on Saturday at the Lagos House, Ikeja, during an empowerment programme, organised by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Adejoke Adefulire in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative, a project of the wife of the President, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. Senator Remi Tinubu was in Lagos on a three-day to commission some projects and presented empowerment tools to 1000 women in Lagos under the Renewed Hope Initiative of President Bola Tinubu. Sanwo-Olu's CSO, Fagbemi allegedly verbally assaulted and obstructed the governor’s official press crew from discharging their duties. In a statement signed by the NUJ Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi and Secretary, Tunde Olalere, the union expressed concern over what it described as misconduct by the CSO, stating that this marked the third reported instance of Fagbemi's maltreatment of journalists. "This growing pattern of intimidation is not only unprofessional but also an affront to press freedom and democratic values. The NUJ will not stand idly by while overzealous individuals infringe on the rights of members of the Fourth Estate to perform their constitutional responsibilities. The NUJ will resist any attempt to undermine press freedom,” the statement stated. It added: "It is unfortunate that the concerned personnel who ought to know better has chosen to act in such a manner under the guise of performing his duties.” The Lagos NUJ reiterated its commitment to defending press freedom and noted that it would ensure that the rights of its members are protected. The Union urged Fagbemi to desist from harassing journalists or obstructing them in the discharge of their professional responsibilities. The Union demands an apology from the officer involved. It said the officer must also take steps to acquaint himself with the critical roles journalists play in a democracy. "Journalists are not enemies of the state. They are partners in democratic governance, and their rights must be respected at all times," Ajayi said.

JODER Calls for training of government aides over harassment of journalists by Sanwo-Olu's CSO The Journalists for Democratic Rights (JODER), has strongly condemned the alleged harassment of journalists by the Chief Security Officer (CSO) to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Fagbemi. In a statement released by Executive Director of JODER, on Saturday, Mr. Adewale Adeoye, it expressed concern over what he described as a growing pattern of hostility by aides of politically exposed persons toward journalists, which he attributed to a lack of proper training in media relations and democratic engagement. “It is unfortunate that some aides to public officials see journalists as threats. This reflects poor training and a fundamental misunderstanding of the role of the media in a democratic society,” Adeoye said. He emphasized that journalists serve as vital links between the government and the people, and that a strong and vibrant media is essential to the survival of any democracy. “The CSO, Fagbemi, appears to have a very poor understanding of the role of the media in nation-building. Modern CSOs are not trained to protect the governor alone but also to uphold democratic institutions, including the media,” he said. Adeoye stressed that if the allegations against the CSO are true, his conduct is not only condemnable but also constitutes a disservice to the office of the governor. “A well-trained CSO should understand that part of their responsibility is to protect the state and all democratic institutions. The reported actions, if verified, are shameful and undermine the values of good governance,” he added. He further urged Governor Sanwo-Olu to consider organizing regular training and retraining for his immediate aides, particularly the CSO, to ensure they understand their roles within a democratic setting. JODER reiterated its commitment to press freedom and urged public office holders and their aides to treat journalists with respect and as key stakeholders in democratic governance.

How Sanwo-Olu’s CSO, Kunle Fagbemi, abused journalists at Lagos empowerment event A senior police officer and Chief Security Officer (CSO) to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Kunle Fagbemi, on Saturday verbally abused and harassed members of the governor’s press crew during an official event held at the Lagos House, Ikeja, on Saturday. The incident occurred during a high-profile empowerment programme organized by the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, in collaboration with the Renewed Hope Initiative, a pet project of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu. The event was aimed at empowering 1,000 women across Lagos State. Fagbemi, who was present when the press crew arrived at the venue in their branded official bus, aggressively confronted them as they disembarked from the bus. Without prior provocation, Fagbemi launched into a tirade, accusing the journalists of being “disruptive” and “unprofessional.” The journalists who represented different media organizations cutting across television, radio, online and newspapers at the scene were taken aback as the CSO began hurling abusive language at them, creating a tense and embarrassing scene in full view of passersby and dignitaries present at the venue. Efforts by some media personnel to calm the situation were rebuffed, as Fagbemi allegedly doubled down on his accusations and insisted that the press crew had overstepped their bounds within the Lagos State government premises. Although no physical confrontation was reported, members of the press expressed serious concerns about their safety and the growing pattern of intimidation journalists face while covering government activities. “This is unacceptable,” said one of the affected reporters, who requested anonymity. “We were simply doing our jobs, yet we were treated with hostility by someone who should be protecting us.” The CSO also reportedly threatened to detain the driver of the press bus for siding with the journalists and vowed nothing would happen to him (Kunle) if he did. The incident was not the first of such intimidation of journalists by the CSO as he had done such on several occasions while the journalists endured his harassments. It has also sparked outrage within media circles, with many calling on Governor Sanwo-Olu to launch a formal investigation and ensure that appropriate disciplinary measures are taken against the CSO to prevent further intimidation of journalists.

If you offended him, he would tell you to your face,” Fuad said. The Chief Imam of Isale Eko mosque Abdulbari Sabba who led prayers for the monarch hailed him for his philanthropic gestures. “ We organised this prayer for our monarch, Oba Rilwan Akiolu to ask God to give him longevity on the throne and for Allah to spare his life. Vinicius Int’l launches local production of armoured vehicles in Nigeria Ayodele Olalere Vinicius International has officially commenced local production of security hardware in Nigeria, a move poised to significantly reduce Africa’s dependence on imported defence equipment. The company, licensed under the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, has established an armoured vehicle assembly line and integrated surveillance solutions hub in Abuja, creating what industry experts describe as a major milestone for indigenous security manufacturing. The new facility is launching at a critical time for Africa’s defence sector. Military expenditure on the continent surged to $51.6 billion in 2023, a 22% increase in just one year, yet more than 95% of Africa’s security hardware continues to be imported from countries such as Russia, China, the United States and major European suppliers. This dependence often exposes governments to supply chain delays and fluctuating geopolitical priorities, with heavy consequences for national security. The launching of the assemblage plant by Vinicius International seeks to change that equation. Its operations in Abuja will assemble tactical armoured vehicles designed for African terrain and security conditions while integrating advanced surveillance and unmanned aerial systems tailored for local realities. The company is also investing in training through its Advanced Security Command and Control (ASCC) division, equipping security personnel with the technical skills to deploy and maintain modern systems. The company has already demonstrated its capacity at scale. In January 2024, it delivered more than 1,000 armoured vehicles to Nigerian security forces, signalling what industry observers have called “a decisive step towards security self-reliance.” Beyond hardware, Vinicius offers integrated surveillance and access control solutions, UAV procurement, and logistics support, providing government agencies with one-stop capabilities rarely available from local suppliers. The impact extends beyond Nigeria’s borders. With insecurity rising across West and Central Africa, and defence budgets expanding in countries such as South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Abuja facility is expected to serve as a regional production hub. “Africa’s need for reliable, locally built security hardware has never been greater. “Vinicius is bridging a capability gap that has persisted for decades, ” said a senior security analyst in Abuja. For Vinicius, localisation is not merely a business strategy but a vision of sovereignty. By assembling vehicles, integrating systems, and training personnel locally, the company is creating jobs, building technical expertise and retaining value within African economies. “Every vehicle we build and every system we deploy brings us closer to a secure future driven by African solutions,” said a company representative. Looking ahead, Vinicius International plans to expand its Nigerian operations into a broader West African industrial base and is opening doors for partnerships with international manufacturers seeking entry into African markets. These collaborations are expected to accelerate technology transfer and strengthen Africa’s long-term defence capacity. As the continent invests billions to safeguard its borders and people, Vinicius International’s move signals a shift from dependency to self-reliance. Its Abuja facility is not just building armoured vehicles; it is helping to build Africa’s security future on African soil, by African hands, for African realities.

According to Wumi Tolu-Alalade, the country implementation partner at Darsel, the winners emerged out of the 30,000 students from all the Lagos State Junior Secondary Schools that took part in the champions initiative . The programme is held at the beginning of each academic calendar and ends when schools vacate at the end of the academic year. While speaking on the reason behind the programme, Wumi said the aim was to improve students performance in mathematics adding that the knowledge of mathematics is essential in solving life challenges. “We decided to reward students that have utilized chatbot very well to improve their mathematics Everybody has something against mathematics so we decided to do AI powered chatbox tool that students can use to practice mathematics 15min daily,” she said She noted that the initiative has been going on in other developed countries such as Jordan and India but that as a formal awardee of the initiative, she decided to bring it to Nigeria and Lagos in particular. “This is done in other countries like Jordan, India so we brought it to Lagos. It's a way of supporting the government to ensure there's a good outcome in mathematics. This year, 10million questions were solved and we had over 30,000 students in JSS 3 across the state. We used the Nigerian curriculum for the programme but next year students from JSS 1 and 2 will also be involved.” She added that the initiative would help to improve the quality of education in Lagos especially in mathematics. She called for more support from the state government. “Our target is to improve the quality of education in Lagos State. If the foundation in basic education is not right, there's nothing we can build on. If you are not good at mathematics, you can't go on with any other things. We want the state government to support us. We want the parents to give their phones to their children just 15min a day and allow them to practice everyday throughout the school academic year when the challenge will end and the winner will emerge.” The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Dokumu Adegbite urged teachers to see the initiative beyond just solving mathematics but solving problems, adding that it would improve quality of education in the state. “We will encourage everyone to take self development seriously. I encourage the principals to relate with teachers and students. I also urged the schools that won this year not to rest on their oars, keep it up and encourage other students. Without education there is no society. We want to bring education to the level where it belongs,” she said. The Lagos State Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Hassan Akintoye, said the knowledge of mathematics would help the students to prepare ahead of life’s challenges and commended Darsel for the initiative. “Teachers are important in our society. Darsel is about mathematics, it prepares every student for society. Mathematics is not about Algebra but to prepare you for society to solve problems in the future. This is the reason the subject is made compulsory for students. So I urge the students to rise to the occasion and confront the problems of the nation,” he said Olabiyi Ooreoluwa Glory from Ojodu Junior Grammar School who came second in the students category said she solved 55,000 questions to secure the second position. “Darsel improved my knowledge in mathematics. I was not good at mathematics before but the competition has helped me. I want to thank them, my teachers and mother for helping me to be among the winners,” she said.

The foundation also paid medical bills of some accident victims and the sick at the Emergency and Accident Section of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital. The foundation was founded in 2023 by Foluso Omosebi, a Republic of Ireland based philanthropist. While presenting gifts to the orphanage, Foluso said it was part of the foundation’s core values to take care of the less-privileged and give back to the society. She said the foundation in the last two years has given monetary assistance and donated hundreds of food and household materials to several orphanages to assist them in taking care of the vulnerable in the society. At the Emergency and Accident Section of the Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, the foundation paid for medical bills and drugs of some patients ranging from N50,000 to N200,000, while cash was also given to them to help them continue their recovery after their discharge. It is recalled that the foundation recently launched its new name VSS Care Foundation from Foluso Omosebi Care Foundation at an event in Lagos. At the launch event, Foluso said her desire to give back to society was fueled while growing up. “Due to my personal experience while growing up in my community, I saw how poverty was dealing with people, making people live a life they.did not want. So I promised myself that when I grow up and be able to achieve something for myself , I would give back to the community,” said Foluso.

Why I’m giving back to the society, Foluso Omosebi, CEO VSS Foundation shares her story Ayodele Olalere Foluso Omosebi, the Founder, Foluso Omosebi Care Foundation, now VSS Foundation, has said her desire to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society prompted her to found her foundation in 2023. For Foluso, a graduate of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun State, and a philanthropist, growing up in Lagos and witnessing the level of poverty in her community was disheartening to her. She saw the young and old, men and women struggling daily with little or nothing to earn a living.. Sharing her experience at the launch of a new name for her foundation, VSS Foundation from Foluso Omosebi Care Foundation in Lagos on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the United Kingdom based philanthropist said she was motivated to give back to the society due to her personal experience while growing up. “Due to my personal experience while growing up in my community, I saw how poverty was dealing with people, making people live a life they.do not want. So I promised myself that when I grow up and be able to achieve something for myself , I would give back to the community,” said Foluso. After relocating abroad and ‘achieving something great for herself’ after years of hard work as a home care specialist, Foluso decided to give back to her community as promised so she founded Foluso Omosebi Care Foundation in 2023 in the Alimosho area of Lagos State to cater for the needs of the less privileged. Without financial support from anyone, Foluso has kept the foundation running in the last two years from the little money she makes working abroad , ensuring financial assistance is provided for small business owners such as petty traders and others to assist them in their businesses. Those with medical assistance were also given financial assistance for medical treatment, a sign of her long held desire to put smiles on the faces of the downtrodden. At the launch event on Wednesday, some of the beneficiaries of her foundation thanked her for her philanthropic gestures. One of them is Dimeji Abdullahi, a visually impaired graduate from a higher institution in Ghana. According to Abdullahi while expressing her gratitude to the foundation, he became blind in 2018 when he came to Nigeria to observe the mandatory one year National Youth Service Corp after his education in Ghana. He said he later learned leather work to support himself due to his visual impairment but had no money to establish himself in the skill until he met Mrs Olaide Gold, a close confidant of Foluso who later introduced him to the foundation for financial assistance. “I thank Mrs Foluso Omosebi for helping me through her foundation. I was into leather work and also learned how to produce liquid soap when I met Laide Gold who introduced me to the foundation. The foundation supported me to establish my leather work and I am very grateful to them, “ Abdullahi said. Another beneficiary, one Mrs Bakare simply known as Iya Okiki testified to benefiting from the foundation. Her story is pathetic and sad. Hear her: “When I gave birth to my daughter, she had no anus,” she said with tears . She added: “We started looking for money for her treatment but we couldn't raise money and in the process, my husband abandoned me with her and two other children. For four years, my daughter could not go to the toilet because she had no anus. She has not been going to school because schools are ejecting her because of her condition.” She continued: “ I met Laide Gold who introduced me to the foundation. Mrs Foluso through her foundation paid for my daughter's operation for my daughter at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and has been paying for her drugs too. Though the first surgery has been done and a date has been given for another surgery but we need money for it. The foundation has been helping us but we need help from more people to assist us and the foundation for the surgery.” Farouk Kalejaiye, a 14-year old beneficiary of the foundation’s financial assistance said he lost his mother when he was 10 while the father also lost his job. As a result he found it hard going to school and eating until he also met Laide Gold who introduced him to the foundation. Since then the foundation has been helping him in his education. Reminiscing on her journey in the last two years she established the foundation, Foluso said it has been full of ups and downs . She noted that though she will not relent but she's limited in what she can do alone due to financial constraints. She thereby called for assistance and partnership from corporate, local and international organizations as well as government at all levels to assist the foundation in the provision of financial support. “Since 2023, the journey has been rough but we have been able to do a lot of things despite the financial constraints. I have been doing it alone without support from anyone. All the money has been coming from my pocket.I need collaboration with organizations, individuals and government. This job is tough. I have faced lots of challenges both physical and spiritual. I need financial support from the government so we can do more of what we are doing,” she said. On the reason for the change of name of the foundation from Foluso Omosebi Care Foundation to VSS Foundation, Foluso said the aim was to give it a more international outlook. “ Today we changed the name to VSS Foundation which reflects the names of my three children; Victor, Steve and Susan. I work with a charity organization abroad and when I told them the name of my foundation in Nigeria they advised me to change it from my personal name,” she said.

Group calls for suspension of Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA APC chairman over alleged insubordination A group comprising members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, known as Concerned Citizens of Ajeromi-Ifelodun has called on the Lagos State APC Leadership to commence disciplinary actions and ensure the suspension of the Chairman of the party in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government, Samuel Adeyemi, for alleged disobedience, insubordination and dereliction of duties. In a statement released by the group, it alleged that Chief Adeyemi went against the party directive by altering the list given to him by the state party leadership containing names of the successful candidates for councilor position across the nine wards within the local government. He is specifically accused of changing the names of candidates in ward A and D to reflect that of his preferred candidates in serious violations of the party’s constitution and internal code of conduct. “The Party Chairman hoarded the list and other information while he refused to call a meeting of leaders, candidates and other aspirants to move forward for harmonization, reconciliation and have a united front going into the elections. His action is divisive, retrogressive and provocative “ He was alleged to have colluded with some unscrupulous elements at the State Party Secretariat to have collected fake LASIEC forms for his preferred councillors and vowed to ensure their names get to the LASIEC office. The group noted that such behaviour, if left unchecked, can further polarize the party within the local government and sets a dangerous precedent. It therefore calls for the immediate suspension of the chairman adding that he should not be entrusted with the electioneering activities.

LG election: 'Enough is Enough', Agege residents tell Tinubu to stop Obasa's alleged imposition of candidates Residents of Agege under the Presidential Campaign Council, PCC, have called on President Bola Tinubu to call the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa to order over his alleged imposition of candidates on them for political positions. The residents had last week staged a protest to reject the names of candidates for the Agege local government and Orile-Agege local council development areas as Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively published by the state party for the incoming council elections. They claimed that the candidate approved by the party for Agege local government chairmanship post is a stooge of Obasa who has been bed-ridden for several months while the speaker also imposed his son, who had earlier been disqualified, as the vice chairman. At the Tuesday' protest meeting of the PCC held in Agege, the residents said they have had enough of Obasa's continued cornering of all political positions meant for the community to himself and his stooges. The residents carried banners with inscriptions such as 'Red Card, Obasa O to ge,' and sang protest song 'Enough is Enough, this suffering is enough, Tinubu rescue us.' The Chairman, PCC for Agege and Orile-Agege, Kamardeen Sabitu said since 2018, the residents have been in the struggle to stop Obasa's imposition of candidates on them. "There is no true democracy in Agege. The struggle started years ago and we lost one of our leaders in 2018 during protest against Obasa. Eleven of us have been sent to jail," he said. " We don't want one person to dictate to us Agege politics. I salute the courage of those of us saying no to political imposition in Agege. One person wants to take over political structure in Agege and we say no to it. We say no to dictatorship and political imposition in Agege," he added. He further said that while the group is not planning to leave the All Progressives Congress, APC, and appreciates the party leaders for their leadership role, they will not accept candidates imposed on them by Obasa. "We would remain in the party and we appreciate our leaders. We are solidly behind President Tinubu. The movement of peace by Obasa should go beyond the pages of newspapers. He should call a meeting of leaders in Agege to discuss. We have gathered 2,000 signatures of residents of Agege and Orile-Agege and everyone is saying no to the imposition of candidates," Sabitu said. Other residents who spoke called on President Bola Tinubu to 'rescue us ' from Obasa's imposition, saying that political positions should be evenly distributed among interest groups rather than allowing only Obasa to corner all positions. "We are still for Tinubu for the 2nd term but we don't want candidates to be imposed on us by one in Agege. Every position should not be for one man alone. Obasa should leave us to choose by ourselves whom we want . We don't want his candidate and his son," said Chief Saheed Obadina. Another resident, Omolola Abiodun said: "We don't want the person they gave us in Agege as chairman. The man has been bed-ridden till now. This is not what democracy is about. We have better candidates. President Tinubu and his wife Remi should come to our rescue in Agege and Orile-Agege." " We won't leave the party for anyone. We are not fighting the party or Tinubu, we are only telling the truth. We are gentle men and women. We are the ones voting. Tinubu should tell Obasa that enough is enough," said Funmi Adedeji.

The complainant who was visibly angry by the approval of the plea bargain by the Lagos AG raised his hands and told the court he was not in support of it. "This is a way to deny us our rights. We are not in support of the plea bargain. The suspects has access to phone from prison and they call us every time threatening our lives. The prosecutors are no longer on our side, we no longer have confidence in them. We know the stress we went through before we could arrest and bring the suspects to court," he told the court. The complainant further said a petition against the approval has been written to the AG as well as the Lagos State governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on the matter. In response, Justice Oshodi acknowledged the tenacity of the complainant in ensuring justice is done to the victim. He however said 'my hands are tied' adding that denying the approval was beyond his control. The judge therefore adjourned the matter till January 25, 2025 for continuation of trial as well as for the prosecution counsel and counsel to the defendants to consult on terms of the plea bargain.

The event drew together notable television personalities, founders of other organizations, and influential individuals, giving it a high-profile status. As a followup to the Launch, the Foundation also undertook a Food Pantry Event at the Assemblies of God Church, Coker Orile, Lagos, where a remarkable 310 widows received free food items, ranging from rice, beans, garri, spaghetti, to bags of sachet water. Each widow present at the event received a generous helping of all the items. This event further extended the foundation's reach, ensuring that more widows received the support they needed. Mrs Daniel said she established the foundation to empower and uplift widows by providing them with basic necessities, emotional support, and opportunities for a better future. She added that through these empowerment events, the foundation aims to ease the burden of widowhood, provide food security, and foster a sense of community and belonging among widows. "Each initiative is a step towards achieving a long-term empowerment opportunity for widows, ensuring they have the resources and support to lead dignified lives."

In the message ,the prosecutor stated that ' the AG has approved 20-years imprisonment for all.the defendants. The plea bargain committee will write a letter to that effect to their lawyer to know if that is acceptable or not so that we can continue with the trial. That is the position." Reacting, the petitioner faulted the AG's decision saying a murder charge attracts life imprisonment or death sentence. "After compromising with the accused, they want to give them 20-years for all the seven charges," he alleged. However, in his response to the allegation following a message sent to him to confirm if the prosecution team had been compromised by the accused persons, the prosecuting counsel, Michael Adewoye denied allegations of compromise leveled against him and the AG. " Thanks my brother, my DPP has called me about the position of the matter and l have explained it to him. First and foremost I am not allowed to grant interviews to the press, any allegation or petition must be addressed to the AG. Be that as it may, on the issue of allegation of money ,it is said that he who alleges must prove. Let him come up with facts and figures to substantiate it otherwise, l will take it up with him. Secondly, the matter is a part heard in which the prosecution had called four witnesses. The counsel to the four of the defendants brought an application for plea of bargain which is allowed by virtue of Section 75 & 76 of ACJL. The plea bargain committee sat on it, made their recommendation to the AG and Hon Attorney-General approved a jail term of 20-years. The nominal complainant queried the approval and threatened to go to the press,' Adewoye said. .

Murder: Court discharge, acquits Onamade of cybercrime allegation by ex-Ijede council boss Justice Olayinka Faaji of the Federal High High Court, Lagos, on Friday discharged and acquitted Ikorodu based chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC and owner of Western Funeral Home, Ijede, Oluwatosin Onamade of cybercrime charge filed against him by the former chairman of Ijede LCDA, Fatiu Jimoh Salisu The court acquitted Onamade of two counts charge of cybercrime brought against him by Fatiu who had accused Onamade of accusing him of being the mastermind of the murder of Godfrey Ifeanyi, a staff of Western Funeral Home in 2021 in the build up to the local government primary elections in which Fatiu was seeking a second term in office and Onamade was a contestant. Ifeanyi was murdered after some thugs allegedly hired by Fatiu invaded Onamade's office and attacked his staff. Fatiu, in the charge before the Federal High Court claimed that Onamade committed cybercrime by circulating his name on various Whatsapp groups accusing him of being responsible for the murder of Ifeanyi thereby tarnishing his inage. He had also claim Onamade granted a media interview where he mentioned his name as the sponsor of the attack. He further claimed the allegation prevented him from getting his party's ticket for a second term in office as council chairman which has affected his political career. The charge read ' that you, Oluwatosin Onamade 'M', sometime in May 2021 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court did commit, an illegal act to wit; intentionally circulating a grossly offensive publication through your Facebook/Instagram handle which you knew to be false, for the purpose of causing insult to one Hon. Fatiu Salisu, ljede LCDA Chairman by accusing him of the murder of late Tony Godfrey, you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 24 of the Cyber Crimes Act, 2015.” Count 2 of the charge also read " that you, Oluwatosin Onamade 'M', sometime in May 2021 in Lagos within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court knowingly caused the transmission of communication through your WhatsApp to harass one Hon. Fatiu Salisu, ljede LCDA Chairman by falsely alleging that he sponsored the attack at Western Funeral Home Limited office and murder of late Tony Godfrey, you thereby committed an offence punishable under section 24(2)(a) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015.” During trial, the prosecuton counsel, Omotayo Olatubosun called two witnesses. The first witness, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Omaka Udodinma told the court that a petiton was forwarded to his team for investigation by the then Inspector General of Police, IGP, from the office of former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola. He said his team invited Salisu, to explain the rationale behind the petition after which the investigating team proceeded to Lagos to arrest the defendant, Onamade for questioning. The witness said Onamade was asked to retract the statement accusing Fatiu of being mastermind of the attack or provide evidence backing his claim, adding that the team received a compact disc showing the defendant accusing the petitioner of his involvement in the incident. He added that Onamade told the team that on the day of the attack, he saw Fatiu in an unregistered Toyota RAV 4 Jeep in company of the assailants who attacked him in his office. He mentioned evidences provided by Onamade to the investigating team to include two Closed Circuit Television, CCTV CDs containing footage of the attack, as well as a copy of press release by a group, Concerned Residents of Ijede, claiming Fatiu was not competent to contest in the election because of his alleged mis-governance in his first tenure. Under cross examination by the defendant's counsel,Adedayo Osijo, Udodinma admitted that his team did not investigate all the suspects arrested in connection with the murder namely Farouq Fasasi, Gbolahan Olubi, Owolabi Sadiq, Shittu Michael Olawale and Olayide Opeifa to ascertain if the allegations against Fatiu were true. Osijo further asked the witness how his investigating team arrived at its conclusion that Onamade's allegation against the petitioner was a defamation of his character since the team failed to investigate the suspects. Fatiu, who was the second witness presented before the court a supposedly printed chats in a Whatsapp group where he claimed Onamade accused him of the offense. In his argument before the court, Osijo said that the prosecution failed to provide concrete evidence that Onamade committed the offense of cyber crime and bullying. He thereafter filed a no-case submission.. In his submission, the counsel sought for 'an order of the court discharging the defendant from the offences in Counts 1 and 2 of the Charge dated 18th November 2021 and for such order this honourable court may deem fit to make in the circumstance of this case.' He based his submission on the grounds that the 'prosecution did not lead evidence to establish and/or show the existence of the essential elements of the alleged offence preferred against defendant in Counts 1 and 2 of the charge dated 18th November 2021 neither did the prosecution lead evidence to link the defendant to the offence allegedly committed.' He further noted in his submission that the evidence presented by the prosecution is so 'manifestly unreliable that this Honourable Court cannot rely on it to convict the defendant,' adding that the prosecution has not shown that the defendant has any case to answer with respect to the offences charged in all the counts of Charge.' Osijo argued it would be in the interest of justice to grant this application and acquit Onamade of the charges. In his ruling, Justice Faaji ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its allegations against Onamade. The court noted that evidence presented by the prosecution did not show Onamade made such allegations and circulated them on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter(now X) as there was no evidence they were found on such social media platforms which would have supported the allegation of cybercrime. It further noted that the alleged Whatsapp group chats did not show Onamade's telephone number to suggest he was responsible for the circulation of the allegation. The judge further ruled the first prosecution witness failed to conduct thorough investigations into the matter. Justice Faaji noted that the two counts carry a punishment of 10 and 3 years imprisonment each if convicted or a fine of N7million and N25million each respectively. The court therefore discharged and acquitted Onamade of all the charges. The murder suspects; Olanrewaju Adebiyi a.k.a Maja, Atunrase Sodiq, Shittu Michael Olawale, Olaide Opeifa A.K.A. Ote and Jamiu Omosanya A.K.A. Orobo are resently standing trial for murder before Justice Hakeem Oshodi of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.

Rumble, Turbulence in The Anglican Church: The Nigerian Factor of Conspiracy in Evangelism By Hon Femi Kehinde Anglicanism is a church rooted in protest. It was founded in 1534 by king Henry VIII’s Act of Supremacy, which pronounced the church of England independent of the Catholic Church in Rome. The first phase of the Anglican Reformation (1531-1547) began over a personal dispute when King Henry VIII of England was denied Papal support for the annulling of his marriage to Catherine of Aragon. Today, the Anglican Church consists of more than 86 million members worldwide in over 165 countries. Collectively, these national churches are known as the Anglican Communion, meaning all are in communion with and recognize the leadership of the Archbishop of Canterbury. In the United States, the American church of the Anglican Communion is called the Protestant Episcopal Church, or simply the Episcopal Church. In most of the rest of the world, it is called Anglican. Samuel Ajayi Crowther (1809 – 31st December 1891) was a clergyman, and the first African Anglican Bishop of West Africa, he also translated the English bible to Yoruba Language in 1843. He was also, a pathfinder that brought in the Anglican church and placed it on firm ground in Nigeria. He was born with the name Ajayi in Osogun, near Oyo in present day Oyo state, Nigeria. On a certain morning, his native town of Osogun was surprised and overwhelmed by slave captors. Crowther and his compatriots fled but “were seized by the enemies with a noose of rope thrown over the neck of every individual to be led in the manner of goats tied together.” In Crowther’s gripping narration, “a family was violently divided between three or four enemies who each led his preys away to see one another no more.” On that tragic morning, the last view Crowther had of his “unhappy, comfortless father” was when he came to give his family the signal to flee. Samuel Ajayi Crowther, the slave boy who became the first African bishop of the Anglican Church, was guided by the hand of God which turned the tragedy of violent enslavement into an immeasurable blessing. In those harsh days of mindless savagery, men were displayed as merchandise in slave markets, tied and manacled, and exported to distant lands. Crowther was an embodiment of a true Christian, a servant of God and His gospel, for even as bishop, he was constantly marked out for detraction; but he took it all in his stride. In 1864, Crowther was ordained as the first African bishop of the Anglican Church; he was consecrated a Bishop on St. Peter’s Day in 1864, by Charles Longley, Archbishop of Canterbury, at Canterbury Cathedral, England. By 1857 the CMS was fully engaged in Nigeria and a diocese in 1864 with the consecration of Samuel Ajayi Crowther as the first diocesan Bishop. Anglican faithful residing in North America took the Anglican faiths and models of practice and worship to America with the usual Nigeria rumbles and tumbles. The Church of Nigeria Anglican communion, is the second-largest province in the Anglican Communion worldwide, as measured by baptized memberships, after the Church of England. As of 2016, its membership has “over 18 million”, out of a total Nigerian population of almost 200 million. Since 2002, the Church of Nigeria has been organized into 14 Ecclesiastical Provinces. It has rapidly increased the number of its dioceses and bishops from 91 in 2002 to 161 as at January 2013; and has certainly increased exponentially from that number. The administrative headquarters is located in Abuja, Capital of Nigeria. Archbishop Henry Ndukuba became its Primate in 2020 succeeding Archbishop Nicholas Okoh. However, the acquit rumbles and tumbles in the Anglican church in America has brought in despair, disdain, anguish and bewilderment to the entire members of a fully incorporated diocese – Anglican Diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) in North America. The Anglican diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) that had existed for well over 10 years was dissolved by fiat and reduced to the status of a Mission by His Grace, Archbishop Henry C. Ndukuba, Archbishop, Metropolitan and primate of the church of Nigeria. The announcement of the dissolution of the Anglican Diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) by fiat at the Church of Nigeria (CON) general Synod held in Nnewi in September 2023 after eleven years of the ADOTT diocese existence cut the entire members of Anglican Diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) in America completely off guard and flustered. According to the elders, Laity, Diocesan members of Anglican Diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) in their letter of protest dated 23rd October 2023 said, “As a diocese that was duly incorporated in America, we should have been consulted by the Primate before the General Synod, even if that decision was to be taken to the general house. The General Synod of the Church of Nigeria and discussion of the issue should have been after our own deliberations, which was not what happened. Perhaps the most egregious and disturbing part of this saga was that just before the General Synod a few highly placed clerics here in North America, who were privy to this premeditated conversation, boasted openly that once the Nnewi meeting was concluded, there would be no ADOTT Diocese! True to it, the Primate announced the dissolution of ADOTT without due consultation with members of this Diocese, particularly the House of laity. These remarks before the meeting suggest that deliberation was not a part of the proceedings; a final decision had already been made unilaterally, and the announcement reflected a process that is unfair to the rank and file of our membership. It is also noticeable that while the General Synod in its wisdom gave a period until February 2024 in their recommendation for this dissolution, the Primate, in a hurry, dissolved the Diocesan Board, which has paralyzed its functions, while people here in North America were still pondering what the proposed dissolution would mean for them, their faith community, and their families. It is indeed a sharp sword because the Primate waited for the commencement of the three-day women’s conference to make his announcement, a conference for which they had prepared for months but was brought to an abrupt end. This of course expectedly was followed by heart-felt sorrow of women and mothers at the conference who did not understand this shocking pronouncement, and chaos ensued.” The elders of ADOTT further said, “As a result of the dissolution, the Primate now began to give orders from the secretariat in Abuja to individual Clergy and Rectors and instructed them to act without the consent of their Diocesan Bishop. It was very disturbing to see the wife of the bishop and convenor of the Women’s Conference was almost forbidden from entering the Cathedral because of the order from above. While we recognize that politics and faith have been inextricably linked in our society, this action is antithetical to the governance of the Anglican Church. It is an unprecedented move.” According to the elders, “We were thriving as a Diocese and the joyous celebration of our tenth-year anniversary showed our strength and success. Our book titled Anglican Diocese of the Trinity: – Formation and Building of a Church of Nigeria Mission’ clearly illustrated our history and God’s benevolence and grace in the mission of the church. “The last Primate, His Grace Archbishop Nicholas Okoh, who paid several visits to us, was very understanding and supportive of our status, presence, and our growth in North America so much that on his retirement, he was recognized at a big reception by all of us hosted in Harvard where he was accorded the respect and honor that are normally given to a Head of state. “The question then is why this letter to the House of Bishops and the Nigerian Anglican faithful? First, there is no record in the history of the Anglican Church in Nigeria or any part of the world where a well instituted and thriving Diocese would be suddenly disbanded and reduced to mission stations. As if with a military fiat without recalls to all democratic norms and practices and global best practices. The motive of the white-controlled Anglican Church that has always sworn to see us kicked out of America except we come under their authority and control, is the key to this crisis. As American/Canadian citizens, this runs contrary to the law of the land that fully guarantees freedom of worship to all. Second, by our faith, we believe in the word of God that says that God himself will not allow his community to meet in error. Therefore, we know that our diocese was not created in error, as we know that God does not make mistakes. On the contrary, we believe as true Anglicans that our Diocese was created in response to genuine cry for justice and freedom. On May 31, 2020, Prof. Jacob Olupona penned a letter to His Grace outlining the serious concerns our community has had with Archbishop Foley Beach, the prejudicial way he has treated and spoken about our community, and how he and ACNA (Anglican Church of North America) have no right under US law to influence how our internal church affairs are run. The letter further stressed the importance of our status as a diocese, so it is important that all should know we have been deeply involved in this issue for many years and have attempted as much as possible to be active participants in the process. Since we have made it clear that our status as a diocese particularly independent of the ACNA (Anglican Church of North America) is of the utmost importance to us and that we have well-organized thoughts and experience on the matter, we are hurt and troubled by the fact that we were never consulted about this decision. To our surprise, our clergy have been ordered to provide a statement of their Assets; assets which through our commitment, hard work and faithfulness, we contributed to the coffers of the Church without receiving or asking for any financial support from the Church of Nigeria. We give glory to God for the passion of the Late Rt. Revd. Dr. Peter Adebiyi of blessed memory, pioneer Diocesan of Lagos West (DLW), regarded as a renegade, who was determined to see the survival of our mission. Through him, DLW rendered considerable help to the pioneering Diocesan Bishop of ADOTT in the early years and partly to All Saints Anglican Church, Hyattsville during their building project in 2010. The elders of ADOTT further noted that “It is worth mentioning that the appointment of Bishop Felix Orji as Supervising Bishop of ADOTT was a deep trauma to the diocese. This caused an unimaginable divide among the suffragan bishops and clergy! We are not aware of any other diocese where a diocese is left so shattered before the election of another diocesan, in the history of our Church. Of course, the Primate’s relationship with Bishop Orji was very tight until recently when things fell apart. Bishop Orji left the Church of Nigeria completely and joined ACNA (Anglican Church of North America), where he had always wanted to drag the rest of us to. On July 24, 2021, the Primate came to Indianapolis, which is the headquarters here, to address the Church and he made a promise and said publicly that no diocese would be dissolved. He also said publicly and stated in clear terms that our diocese would not be joined with another diocese. What has now transpired runs contrary to his promise.” The elders of ADOTT, further bewildered by the primate action said, “As we try to call the attention of a few Anglican Church leaders in Nigeria to this crisis, one thing that was clear from our conversations was that the Primate has not listened to anyone, but we hope he listens to God’s still, small voice and counsel to allow us to continue the good work He has begun in us.” We are hoping that the House of Bishops and those who matter in the Anglican Church will put a stop to these happenings to prevent further escalation. We, as elders in the Anglican Church, are men and women of peace who believe in the integrity and freedom to practice in our sacred faith tradition. No number of abusive notes we have been receiving from the agents of the Church of Nigeria in North America, will dissuade us from the path of truth and justice, as outlined by our faith. We also believe it is important for us to consider the issue of precedence. If the Church of Nigeria were to bow to external pressure regarding how our ecclesiastical structure is established, it does not hold well for our global missions and operations. We do not believe the House of Bishops of the Church of Nigeria would want to send the message that parishioners and congregants may, at any time, be subjected to ecclesiastical authority that they do not appreciate or of which they do not approve, although this is certainly the message that we have received. We are troubled by the precedent set of a complete lack of consideration or dialogue of any kind before sweeping measures with massive implications for the clergy and laity alike are taken. If we are not careful, such precedent may undermine our ability to function as an effective mission and draw people away from our churches. Instead, we humbly request, that a precedent be set of clear, respectful, and honest communication in which the perspectives, experiences, and concerns of all in our diocese are taken seriously to inform a decision taken in everyone’s best interest, as we have previously come to expect from a venerable institution such as the Church of Nigeria. This letter was signed on behalf of the Anglican Diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) North America by some of His elders – Sir Festus Obafemi – Ajayi, Dame Dorcas Imasuen, Prof. J.K. Olupona, Folashade Awoola and David Oladele. It is apparent that the bedrock of this crisis is rooted in financial evangelism and the church of Nigeria having not been financially responsible to the operation of Anglican diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) North America, should allow ADOTT to stand, flourish and nourish in preaching the gospel of Christ through Anglicanism and continue to play a supportive role for its mother church – The Anglican church of Nigeria without fear of undue pressure, unjustifiable crisis and intimidation. In fondest memories of the valiant and gallant effort of Anglican Bishops, Clergymen and Pathfinders of Anglicanism in Nigeria – Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther and the 4 subsequent Bishops after him; Bishop James Johnson, Bishop Phillips, Bishop Oluwole, Bishop Tugwell (who made peace with the Delta Pastorate and reconciled them with the CMS in 1898), Archdeacon Dandeson Crowther (son of Samuel Ajayi Crowther), Rev. David Hinderer, Rev. James Johnson, Rev. Henry Townsend, Rev. Thomas Davey, Rev. T. B. Macaulay, Archbishop Vining, Archbishop Akinola, Archdeacon H. Johnson, Bishop Alexander Babatunde Akinyele, Rev. J. J. Ransome Kuti, Bishop Timothy Omotayo Olufosoye, Bishop Scot, Bishop Odutola, Archdeacon Emmanuel Alayande, Bishop Seth Runshewe Kale, Archbishop Abiodun Adetiloye, Archdeacon Micheal Olupona, Bishop Awosan, Rev J. M. S. Adejumo, Canon Ogunbanjo, Canon Olunloyo and so many others would applaud in their graves, if the general synod of the Anglican Communion coming up on the 24th of February 2024 would revisit its Nnewi decision of September 2023 synod by allowing the Anglican Diocese of the Trinity (ADOTT) North America to stand with its full diocesan status in the spirit of Christ, Anglicanism and Evangelism. The general synod will certainly lose nothing by doing so. Hon. (Barr.) Femi Kehinde is a former member, House of Representatives (1999-2003), representing Ayedire/Iwo/Olaoluwa Federal Constituency of Osun State.
