So Nigeria should keep paying ransom to bandits? Do you know what that means? The reason why terrorism and banditry became this bad is cos they had been receiving huge ransom money. It is that ransom money they are using to purchase more weapons that would help them gain more ground. Once you stop paying ransom money, you're starving them of funds to get more weapons and that is actually the best approach to discourage kidnapping for ransom. The problem I have with this tinubu regime is that the military is not using full force to rout these terrorists and it is worrisome. Infact this issue of banditry should be the work of the police and not the army. If state police becomes a thing, it would relieve the president of all the pressure and that is why it has to be approved. It is then we would see the state governors who are complicit in this whole thing. The moment ransom is paid in oyo state, that would be end of that place. This is how the bandits tested the waters in zamfara, katsina and kwara states. The moment their state governments paid ransom, the rest was history. Oyo state government needs to empower local hunters and engage the services of traditionalists and igboho to rescue those people and dislodge the terrorists if the military is not prepared to do the right thing. Enough of paying ransom to ragtag militias. You need to see how hunters pulled off a daring rescue just few days ago in this same oyo state and you tell me ransom payment is the only way?

What stops the national assembly members from moving a motion to make kidnapping and banditry carry a hefty capital punishment like firing squad and public executions. They should include law mandating the relevant authority to follow up every kidnapping cases in the country to a logical conclusion, every ransom paid, every means through which kidnappers make contact must be traced, the telecom must also take responsibility in ensuring that they willing share GPS coordinates when requested as it relates to where distress calls are made from.
In fact any suggestions on how to end this ugly incident once and for all is a welcome development. This is a call to action and not by prayer alone.

These calls and suggestions should have dominated a major deliberation on the floor of the plenary as it involve little children for God's sake! instead what the useless members where dwelling on was on decamping frivolities.
