You're correct. If not that the South West has effective community policing and the ideology of SW people, they would have overrun the whole place just like in the North. While I may not necessarily share that poster's sentiments, some points need to be made.

Many of those soldiers see civilians as less than mosquitoes or butterflies. It is part of Nigerian military culture to devalue civilian life. They demonstrate it daily in their speech and in their actions.

Some years ago, soldiers beat an old man within an inch of his life for using a mobile phone near a military checkpoint. The whole thing made no sense - there isn't any widely publicized information warning Nigerians not to use phones near checkpoints. Not everybody travels frequently and picks up information like this easily. They just beat that man up because they could.

Not everybody sees these soldiers as messiahs or saviours.

See I understand that some of those soldiers can be animals but there are good ones. Several years ago, I also didn't know making calls close to checkpoints was a bad idea. I was on a call and two soldiers stopped me. They didn't use aggression. They asked why I was making calls there and I explained calmly so they calmly explained that it is not good and that calls are prohibited at checkpoints and that was how it ended. I have met well behaved Nigerian soldiers in my lifetime so there are good ones. If you look at the frequency of drug peddling around the world by Nigerians, you would be tempted to think that all Nigerians are druggies. Does that mean you should hate the average Nigerian? There are good and bad eggs in every system of the world. Even the western countries that you look up to have terrible individuals in their various organizations and military. Life always has two sides and you need to balance things to stay mentally stable

My friend trainee was sent to get a pouch for my phone. He saith this was the only one available at the moment. It was more expensive than normal pouch. The price was discussed over the phone without seeing the pouch and I obliged to pay for it. On seeing it, we both were surprised it is ladies pouch. But I can't waste more time so I chose to keep it. My guy wanted to remove the shinny stuffs and beads attached at the back but I told him to leave it. I intend to swap it with a lady I helped charge her phone once In a while that uses same model of phone but she has not come around since I got the pouch.
