TravelStress-free Ways To Travel With Babies, Toddlers, Kids At Christmas by azeklass(op): 7:58am On Dec 20, 2019
Are you planning to travel with babies or toddlers this Christmas? Sadly, mums who travel with babies this season often face a lot of stress.

Some times it is because the baby’s diaper would have to be changed frequently.

You might also have to breastfeed or even spoon-feed baby at some point during and before your trip.

Interestingly, this challenge isn’t peculiar to you alone. Many mums have been in your shoes at some point or the other.

Now, the good news is that travel with babies doesn’t have to be a stressful experience, for you or your baby or toddler.

Follow these suggestions to attain that smooth travel experience with your baby this Christmas and beyond:

PACK SMART
What you have or don’t have in your diaper bag can make or mar your flight or journey.

Write out or have a mental idea of a checklist of all the essentials that you will need during your trip and when you arrive at your travel destination.

Your list must cover the right amount of diapers to last you on the trip.

Also, you should load your wipes, bib, changing pad, diaper cream, powder, nursing cover, light blanket, hand sanitisers, spare outfits. Put everything in its place for easy access during your trip.

See, Parenting is More Than Just Paying School Fees – Niyi Ademoroti

Man, it’s hard to believe a lot of the toxic ideas on parenting our own parents grew up with have been passed onto us.

Yeah, this was inspired by the Wizkid story and the social media comments that have followed.

For those not in the know, the summary is: the mother of Wizkid’s first child, Oluwanishola Ogudu, shared screenshots where she wrote about just how much input Wizkid has in raising their child (very little).

He pays their son’s school fees, paid for a few vacations, clothes, shoes, and (maybe once) their rent (all of this after A LOT of reminders and begging and having family members intercede)........

HealthBreastfeeding For Over Six Months May Reduce Diabetes Risk by azeklass(op): 5:18pm On Jan 18, 2018
Breastfeeding for six months or longer appears to significantly cut the risk of a woman developing type II diabetes, a 30-year U.S. study said.

The Kaiser Permanente research, published in the U.S. journal JAMA Internal Medicine, analysed data from the Coronary Artery Risk Development in Young Adults (CARDIA) study, a national, multi-centre investigation that originally enrolled about 5,000 adults aged 18 to 30 in 1985 to 1986.

This study included 1,238 black and white women who did not have diabetes when they enrolled in CARDIA, or prior to their subsequent.........

LiteratureMy Friend Gets Pregnant, I Get Heartbroken 2 by azeklass(op):
I know you will be wondering how my friend get pregnant, and I got heart broken, hmmm. The truth really is there’s nothing physically wrong with either of us. We’ve had all the tests, and they’ve all come back with a perfect OK. Nothing’s wrong with either of us. We just haven’t conceived yet.

But how can I tell these my apparently super-fertile friend about my inability to get pregnant? I know she is so super-fertile, because people like her delight in telling others how quickly they fall pregnant. I find myself drifting from Clara as she embarks on a new phase of her life that I can’t follow. I’m being left behind and it’s painful, it’s hurting, its heart breaking. I try. I really try, but I can’t seem to cope.

How can I tell Clara about “the waiting”. That every month for over three years, two weeks of each month are torture for me as I wait to see if perhaps this month, things have worked. And just in case they have, will they last? But the double line on the pregnancy test never appears and I am left with a bitter taste in my mouth. How many times have I worried myself sick over this development?

John has always had a rather peculiar attitude towards the whole matter. It’s not that he complains or blames me or anyone in particular for our woes. On the contrary, he’s been supportive to an extent. We’ve been through all the tests together. He’s always been there, but only physically. I cannot help feeling that his mind isn’t in it. Much of the time, he says nothing at all. He doesn’t talk about ...........

HealthWeight Loss Mistakes Most Mums Continue To Make by azeklass(op): 1:11pm On Aug 17, 2017
Most mums make a lot of weight loss mistakes on a daily basis albeit unconsciously. Some mums have also had resort to extreme methods to reach that desired goal of being slim and keep fit.But bad habits and certain mistakes never go away and always come back to hunt them. Here are some of the most common weight loss mistakes most mums continue to make:

Thinking sit ups make the stomach fat go away

Most Nigerian women fall prey to the myth that a good lying down and coming up and counting to 40 is enough exercise for one day and voila no more belly fat. We hate to be the bearer of bad news, but doing sit ups all day long won’t make you lose weight or give you a flat tummy. You cannot spot or measure reduced fat. Doing cardiovascular exercises like some sweat walking or running will help you lose weight all over your body by some considerable amount.

Continuous reliance on carbohydrates

When we are busy and our mouths need to keep busy, it’s very easy for us to look no further than carbohydrates-there goes your weight loss goals. Carbohydrates aren’t bad as such, but who wouldn’t crave for a well prepared semolina or pounded yam and goat meat egusi soup (we are definitely am craving for some now)one big problem with meals like this is that you might well get the required energy crash an hour or so then wake up feeling hungry. When this happens, it’s easy to crave something sugary like chocolate or a biscuit and the cycle of energy spike and energy crash continues all day. Not only do you feel rubbish, but you end up eating way more than you want to.

It’s easily fixed, just try to make your meals more balanced. As mentioned, that means a protein source, some vegetables and a fat source like margarine are healthier. This will help keep your energy levels more consistent and stop you reaching for a high calorie energy food!

Shoving in anything as long as it’s before 6 pm

This is another great myth that has been conveyed by some health and fitness sites. But, it does not matter what time you eat, eating foods that are fried or rich in saturated fat will most definitely make it a hard task for you to lose weight.

While, eating your last meal a few hours before bed, may make it easier to lose weight, the quality of the food you eat before this time equally matters. When it comes to losing a good deal of weight, An effective diet is key.

Not setting goals

Not fully putting in place certain goals on how, when and why you want to lose weight could be the reason you may never lose it. It is fine to know that you would like to lose 20 kg, but how do you plan to lose all this weight? Is it over one year? Through diet or .............

Health6 Natural Ways To Boost Low Sperm Count by azeklass(op): 6:47pm On Aug 16, 2017
The first way a man can overcome infertility is by improving his sperm count. Don’t just sit back and expect everything to work. Even though the average sperm count is between 120-350million per cubic centimeter there are natural ways to boost a low sperm count. A low sperm count on the other hand is below 40million per cubic centimeter. Low sperm count can be as a result of poor sperm motility due to environmental toxins such as chemicals, radiation and drugs.

Here are natural ways to boost a low sperm count

-Stay away from excess alcohol use, street drug use and pollution, cigarette as well exposure to heave metal. Infertility brings about depression and as such, it’s better to stay away from these factors to avoid infertility at any point.

-Reduce Chemical Exposure: Another natural way of avoiding infertility is by reducing chemical exposure. It’s said that the semen of an average man today has half the sperm, and of poorer quality than 50 years ago. Plastic and industrial pollutants such as dioxin, DDT and PCBs affect the effects of estrogen. You can prevent the impact of xenoestrogens on your health by doing the following;

Avoid plastic foods such as baked beans, sweet corn and corned beef.
Also avoid chlorinated tap water
Eat organic foods as much as possible to avoid pesticides and herbicides
Avoid animal products high with fat content that contain hormones.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine
-Improve Your Diet: Stay away from those canned foods and eat legumes, whole grains and plenty fresh fruits. Avoid tobacco and refined carbonhydrates, coffee, tea and alcohol. Foods with artificial additives should be avoided as well. Watch your weight while eating as food deprivation in men leads to a loss of sex drive and structural changes to reproductive tissue leading to infertility.

-Exercise Regularly: Regular exercise for five times a week for 45minutes helps maintain the body shape, reduce anxiety and stress according to the American Society of Reproductive Medicine. However, excessive exercise such as marathons can be lead to infertility as it causes amenorrhea, which can cause absence of menstruation in women, and low sperm count in men. Just in case you are not sure about the kind of exercise that will be fine for you, get a personal trainer to help you develop a training program as this will help boost your low sperm count.

-Take nutritional supplement: the most important supplement to improve fertility is vitamin c and zinc in men. 2,000 to 6,000 milligrams a day helps in preventing sperm from sticking together, therefore, helps improve fertility. For Zinc, 100-200milligrams a day is said to increase testosterone levels, sperm count and motility. Zinc sources include; wheat germ, legumes, nuts, turkey, herring, and beef.

-You can also try herbal supplements: Herbal supplements are very effective when it comes to fertility. One thing you should note however is the fact that if you are getting herbs from a source that’s not accredited or licensed you need to be very careful. Ensure you purchase herbal products from sources that are approved by law as buying on the street can be dangerous; reason being that, you can barely know the dosage you’ll need for a product. Herbs listed below can be effective for improving erections, sexual desire, blood flow to the sexual organs and general sexual health with virtually no side effects. These herbs include;

Ginkgo biloba extract: 250 mg, 1 to 3 capsules daily
Rhodiola rosea: 500 mg, 1 to 3 capsules daily
Nutmeg: 500 mg, 1 capsule daily
Hot goat weed: 500 mg, 1 capsule daily
Elk antler velvet: 500 mg, 1 to 3 capsules daily.

Please note that these suggestions do not in anyway substitute the place or efficacy of medical assistance. In addition to these suggestions, please speak with a fertility doctor if you suffer from low sperm count.

CelebritiesFabmum Cover Interview- Bisola Ijalana by azeklass(op): 4:16pm On Aug 08, 2017
The beautiful Bisola Ijalana is the cover of the debut issue of FABMUMNG monthly e-cover. She is the Creative Director of M12BabyStudio and a yummy mummy of two. Her job entails capturing the essence and purity of life through her newborn, baby and maternity Photography. In this chat she lets us in on life as a mother, wife and a foremost children photographer in Nigeria

Please take us through an average day in your life?

I wake in the morning and prepare my first son for school. I take my second son who is a year old to work with me every day. At work, I have my photo-shoots slated for the day. I sometimes have 2-3 photo-shoots in a day. Some may be at the studio or at the clients’ home. Whenever I don’t have a photo-shoot, I am editing, clients’ pictures. I have employees and interns, so as part of my daily routine; I give them various assignments and supervise them. I also read and respond to enquiries via email, text messages and social media platforms. I do not run a walk-in studio so all our photo-shoots are planned with the parents. It could be a maternity, newborn, baby, kids or family shoot. We discuss the theme, costumes, props to used etc for the shoot and fix a date for the shoot.

You are a wife, mother and a fabmumpreneur. How do you juggle these three roles almost seamlessly?

I will say it may be difficult to juggle the three roles if you do not have a supportive family. But, I am very blessed to have a very supportive husband.
Running a child photography business is no walk in the park for a Nigerian mum. What is your why?

Child Photography comes with its own challenges especially since you are shooting babies and little children. Children, especially babies can be cranky and throw tantrums. It can sometimes be difficult to predict the time it will take you to photograph a child because they can sometimes be very uncooperative. The shoot may take a much longer time than I initially planned. I have to calm the child, get him or her in the desired poses, get the mum the feed the child etc. Shooting children is quite different from shooting adults in terms of getting their attention and cooperation. I sometimes shoot twins and triplets. You can then imagine what it feels like to get three babies to be calm. In spite of the challenges that go with children photography I love my specialty. Over the years, with practice, training and learning from renowned international baby & children photographers I have mastered the art.............

HealthHow To Plan Your Week With Ease by azeklass(op): 1:13pm On Aug 04, 2017
Do you sometimes feel like 24 hours isn’t enough for you to squash your goals and get the work done? If this is you, then you are in luck because this article will show you just how to plan your week ahead with ease.

1.Make good use of Google calendar and other similar apps

As a busy mum who is always on the go, one of the best ways to keep track of all your appointments and plans for the week is to plug them into a Google calendar. By so doing, you will receive an email reminder every morning that helps immensely because you may often forget to check the calendar. To make the most of the Google calendar, write out a comprehensive to-do-list and allocate a day and time to it. After doing this, set the Google calendar reminder to say 3hours, so that you can get a pretty reasonable window of time to articulate and carry it out.

Sort out the family meal calendar for the week

We are very sure that figuring out what the kids and family will eat during the week is often times a herculean task right? This is why planning ahead or if you like, or having family meal timetable comes to the rescue. So how do you sort this challenge out? We will tell you how:

A: Spend at least 15 minutes during the weekends to map out the week’s meals.Create two or three weekly dinner menus and then rotate so your family doesn’t get bored. That way, dinner will remain something they will look forward to. Babygrubz penned an amazing article on busy mums hack for healthy family meals. You can read all about it here http://fabmumng.com/busy-mom-hacks-fast-healthy-childrens-meals/

B:If you can, please do some bulk shopping so there is always foodstuffs or condiments in
the house. Where this isn’t possible, prepare as many meal elements as possible in advance
over the weekend (chop and bag veggies, parboil rice, stir together spice mixtures or sauces). Buy pre-prepped or frozen fruits and vegetables because this affords you the privilege of whipping up some quick, delicious and healthy family meals in a flash.

Reconnecting with your spouse

If you live in a busy city like Lagos, you will agree that everyone seems to be operating a very fast pace. We rarely have time to stop and breathe. This is why you have to consciously pause and pay attention to the people that matter the most in your life. Set out a particular day(s) in the week when you can literally reconnect with your spouse. This could be in form of a date night, movie night or a time when you both just engage in some honest conversations. To make this a reality, you both have to agree on a day/time in the week where you both have undivided attention for each other. A great way to make this happen, if you are both have a career going, is to find a way to leave the office a little earlier. You two can also agree to wake up a little earlier to chat before work or stayi up a little later to talk in bed. No matter the option you choose, just ensure that it affords the two of you ample time to reconnect.

4. Spend quality time with your kids

Do you know that children spell LOVE as TIME? That’s right, that means the quality of time you spend with your children is much more important to them than the expensive gifts or toys you buy them. So, deliberately set out a reasonable amount of time each day of the week to talk to them, follow up on their academic progress and just reconnect with them. You would be amazed at how much your children know.

The points listed above are very simple and basic way to plan your week and feel in control of your life!

This is a wonderful initiative coming at a time our athletes federation has failed on so many grounds. I think partnering with some companies and some state government like lagos state will definitely bring out something without any doubt.
However they need to be careful of those hawks in public sector who are ready to prey on any given opportunity i.e initiative like this one. All they want is money....money...then waste or kill those talents out there.
God bless O3 Athletics Foundation, more grace.
i think this shows why we need to push for Athletics to be trained and encouraged properly.

Almost every parent can relate to the concern that arises when your toddler sucks his or her thumb or fingers. But, not to worry if you find in this situation as our 9 ways to wean a child off thumb sucking will provide you the much-needed solution.

It also can prevent the front teeth from coming together properly and can cause a misalignment of the upper and lower jaws.

Do try to limit the time that your child sucks his thumb: You need to let your child realize that thumb sucking isn’t meant to be done in public, explain to him or her that this is a bed activity instead, to be done during nap time and at..........

Fashion5 Cool,fun Ways To Wear Print by azeklass(op): 4:35pm On Apr 10, 2017
5 cool, fun ways to wear print

There are several fun ways to wear print. From geometric, floral, mirror, or animal prints, you can’t go wrong with prints. Not only does a print outfit add some spark to your wardrobe, it is also very versatile.

Go easy on prints

Always stick to one print clothing at any time and keep the rest of your outfit plain. Whether it’s a one-shouldered dress, leggings or a waistcoat, feel free to go as colourful and bold as you like, as long as you don’t incorporate block colours into the mix. Animal prints should be teamed with black alone and you can only wear only one type of print at a
Fit matters

An oversized garment with an oversized print will only make you look like a stuffed pillowcase. If a fitted dress teamed with leggings are your absolute staples, invest in a pencil-thin leather belt to flatter your best assets.

Size Matters

Large prints give the impression of a greater surface area, so avoid if you are of a big boned or fat. Stick to smaller patterns instead. The smaller the print, the smaller the frame appears to the untrained eye. Choose florals with flowers that are no larger than your hand span.

The right print

Balance your one print outfit by adding accessories in contrasting colours. Pairing a loud leopard pant with solid colours keeps your look balanced. Tribal prints are one of the biggest trends this season. Mix them with similar looking prints or with touches of metallic. Either way, you can’t go wrong. When buying floral prints during the colder months, go for one with a dark base like black or navy. This will allow you to easily pair with tights, sweaters and boots without sending mixed signals.

HealthHealthy Hair Essentials For Your Bundle Of Joy by azeklass(op): 5:49pm On Apr 05, 2017
Healthy Hair Essentials for your bundle of joy

Before the arrival of my baby, Muna, I took time to research and find out what I exactly I needed for her hair care. Based on my findings, I came up with a list of products and tools required to properly nurture her locs from birth. One major factor that I paid attention to before I purchased the products was SAFETY. I had to confirm that the products, be it a conditioner or a shampoo was going to be safe for a baby.

To do this, I went to a website called www.ewg.org, and it is a place where you can find out the safety rating of any product.

Products from most of the internationally known brands are listed on the website and their safety level is rated based on a scale of 1 to 10. Below are the essential things you would need to buy for your baby’s hair care;.............

HealthPecadomo: Hello Mummie…i’m A Chef by azeklass(op): 5:24pm On Apr 03, 2017
PECADOMO: HELLO MUMMIE…I’M A CHEF

I was alone again on my balcony and reflecting on how motherhood was reenacted during my December visit to mum’s after three years. I got deeply emotional and was prompted to compose her a love poem. Of course, Ann Taylor’s ‘My Mother’ came to mind. I picked my phone and called. Mum was quiet but I could hear her excited breathing beneath my cracked voice.

Who sat and watched my infant head

When sleeping on my cradle bed

And tears of sweet affection shed

My mother

I continued singing, swelling up with each verse, and struggling to hold my burst.

Until the last stanza!

When thou art feeble, old and grey

My healthy arm shall be thy sway

And I will soothe thy pains away

My mother

Then it happened. I couldn’t hold it anymore. I lost the struggle and tears erupted, freely flowing down my cheeks, mum was crying too. It was an emotional moment I couldn’t find words to describe; the priceless feelings, the loud silence, the agelong understanding… Oh motherhood, how can I ever forget your kindness? What can I do to repay you? What have you not done for me? Thank you maami.

Mum has been a great help, a support and an inspiration to me, and I constantly...........
