There is a 2014 Prado that needs to be serviced here. No manual and no oil type indicator on the oil cover. I think this is either a Middle East or South Africa model.

That's why I always advise Honda and Acura users to always use the Toyota 5w20 oil. They always seem to have a silly argument that the oil is meant for only Toyota and Lexus. That is so incorrect. The oil can be used by all vehicles with the same Oil requirements.

5w20 oil is not very widespread in the country. You have it available here, buy it and use it to protect your engine

Very true. I don't understand why someone would use a 20w50 oil for an engine clearly specified as 5w20. Just madness

Everyone knows that lubrication is critical in all internal combustion engines. Because of this, motor oil companies spend millions of advertising
dollars each year to convince you that their products are superior to their competitors brands. Regardless of whether you prefer to buy your oil in a yellow container, a white container, or a gray container; regardless of your thoughts about conventional oils vs. partial or full synthetics; the most critical thing is the weight of the engine oil.

Honda and Acura engines are machined at very tight tolerances.This is one of the reasons they are known for their longevity and are legendary for their ability to accumulate high mileage over the vehicle’s lifetime. It is extremey important to always have adequate lubrication. If you have a Honda or Acura that calls for 5w20, then only use 5w20 motor oil. It doesn’t matter what your hot-rodder buddy says about 5w20 being too thin. He isn’t a Honda Engineer. If you choose to use 5w30, 10w30, 10w40, or 20w50 “racing oil”, in a Honda or Acura that calls for 5w20, you will literally starve the internal engine parts of adequate lubrication.

The engineers at American Honda Motor Company know what they are doing. For maximum fuel efficiency, maximum engine life and dependability, always adhere to the recommended weight of motor oil. This information can always be found in the owners manual and usually on the oil filler cap of many Honda and Acura automobiles.

Yes, you are spot on. Most of the engines in the newer Prados and LandCruiser require a 5w20 or 0w20 oil. They're interchangeable.

We have three 2015 Toyota Prado due for servicing. There is no indication of the oil type on the oil cover. The manual is not too helpful. I am suggesting we go ahead and use 5w20 oil but we don't have enough on ground here. What's your advice?

Toyota Motor Oil 5w20. That oil is light and very sweet. I use that and distribute to my colleagues at work. Costs 3k per Quart.
