richiemcgold: This comparison is very stupid, childish and baseless. Are you expecting the lecturers to expend all their money buying posh cars? They surely have more responsibilities. Some even have children schooling abroad. If you're a responsible father/mother, tell me which one would you choose between posh cars or sponsoring your children. My Dean for instance rides venza jeep, he can surely afford a bigger ride but he has 3 children currently studying in Canada. His last born is processing Australian visa RN. Do you know how much it costs to sponsor four children abroad? You are correct bro, stupid comparism for people who are involved in fraudulent activities to lecturers who are contributing to the society...if not for our country lecturers abroad are doing very well |

Foreign Affairs › Re: South Africa Marks 150 Days Without Powercuts, Boosts Currency (PICS) by Azzik: 5:47am On Aug 28, 2024 |
WannaHowzit: South Africa has gone 150 consecutive days without any planned power outages, the state power utility Eskom said at the weekend.
This milestone marks a dramatic turnaround from over a year ago when South Africa was plagued by persistent and record load shedding (planned powercuts) that disrupted daily life, inflated food prices and eroded investor confidence.
“The recovery plan has not only made Eskom’s power stations more reliable but has also demonstrated enhanced efficiency,” the state-owned power utility said.
The turnaround began with the appointment of Kgosientsho Ramokgopa as the country’s first-ever electricity minister in March 2023, a role created in response to the escalating energy crisis.
Alongside this, the government injected about R250-billion (N23-trillion) into Eskom to stabilise the utility as well as appointing Dan Marokane as its permanent CEO in December.
The rand has responded well to the development after ending 2023 as one of the few emerging market currencies with losses versus the dollar.
Its fortunes have been boosted by the improvement in electricity supply along with a coalition government that’s considered market friendly after the May election.
The currency has gained 3.7% in the year to date and trades at about R17.70/$. And yet in Nigeria, we are still battling with a meagre 4500 megawatts for a population of more than 200 million people, what a shame...they claim to have spent billions of dollars for our power sector yet nothing to show for it, I can bet that if same amount is given to our leaders to revamp our power supply they will siphon and share it among themselves and nothing will come out of it |

saintopus: People will blame the past Nigerian Leaders for the poor electricity and I will say they are correct. However, readers of this article would not be oblivious to the fact that ESKOM, was given N23 trillion to execute the project that generated over 2500 MW of electricity. How much is the Nigeria government investment in electricity? When Obasanjo was in power, Chief Tony Annineh was the minister of power, he was given $16 billion for the power Ministry, today @N1600 to the Dollar how much would that be? If they give our leaders that same amount to upgrade our power supply, they will siphon the money and nothing will come out of it... Nigeria has spent billions of dollars in the power sector yet nothing has changed,it's even getting worse so stop that excuse |

DeLaRue: It is not a personal property.
Future President's will use it.
A Nigerian President needs to be able to fly in a plane owned by Nigeria as and when needed.
People who say the prime ministers of some countries in Europe use commercial planes. Yes, but those countries airports and airlines are very well connected to other countries.
Nigeria airlines don't fly to many countries. I think Airpeace only flies to the UK.
So, what if Nigeria's President needs to travel to France, USA, Brazil etc? He should fly Air France, or United Airlines? What if those airlines are not available on the day he needs to fly?
Because the price of beans and garri is high, Nigeria should not buy an aeroplane? I disagree.
The Nigerian government can do both - buy the plane and continue to work to make life easier for citizens. Keep defending nonsense, when they need something the money I always available but if it has to do with the masses Nigeria will become a poor country, check the budget and see the paltry sum invested in critical areas like education, health and agriculture then you will know that we have useless and selfish leaders |
Politics › Re: Kenneth Okonkwo Slams Tinubu For Acquiring Presidential Jet Amid Hardship by Azzik: 9:54am On Aug 20, 2024 |
emkz: While it seems criticisms of the president are apt, certain facts must be cleared.
Presidential transportation worldwide is a serious security matter. In our case, air transport of the president is handled by the Nigerian Airforce. If the airforce says a jet is unfit to fly the president because it might have stayed in service longer than specified, hence a potential aviation threat, it is only fair that we listen to them. We do not need to like them.
Those suggesting that the president must fly commercial or use his personal vehicles (like Deji Adeyanju) are not aware of the potential security threats. A Nigerian head of state was assassinated in broad daylight in his official car, while another one was murdered for not taking their security serious.
The aircraft here does not belong to Tinubu. It belongs to the Federal Government. Once Tinubu leaves power, he won't take the jet with him. So those accusing Tinubu of purchasing a private jet for himself are being ludicrous.
Yesterday, Charly Boy lied that the president's official car, Cardilac Escalade is worth almost 1 billion naira. A simple internet search showed that the vehicle is about 250 million naira. Still expensive, why did Charly Boy have to lie? When Buhari exited power, he didn't leave with the Maybach. The vehicle was not his. The Cardilac does not belong to Tinubu. DSS handles his ground transportation. Why not question DSS for proposing that vehicle?
And for those who are just realizing, the Cardilac Escalade SUV had been in use since last year and sighted several times in the convoy, how come they are just seeing it? The vice president is driven in one of such vehicles. How come they have not seen it?
Anyway, Kenneth Okonkwo says people are dying of hunger and there is no fuel or electricity. It is not Tinubu's job to cultivate arable land nationwide. It is not Tinubu's job to provide buses to transport people within states. These are things state governors can easily undertake on their own, and even local governments. We have seen the Niger State governor buy such buses. Once the burden of transportation is removed, the issue of fuel price would not bother so many.
The fact is that the president is being blamed for policies, but all presidential candidates agreed that subsidy on petrol needed to be removed. Even the messianic pontiff said he'd remove it on day 1. Suddenly, Tinubu is being condemned for taking the decision to save us from economic doom. It didn't make sense that we were borrowing to pay subsidies. Also, the removal of the parallel trade of fx was to tackle the fx fraud that drained our resources.
This meant that increased allocation could be used for developmental purposes in the states. What do the state governors do instead? We find them doing Hajj subsidies and Ramadan feeding, purchasing vehicles for traditional rulers, buying wheelbarrows to turn their unemployed youth to mai-barrow in the markets, and stacking funds for elections they are not sure of living to partake in.
Dear governors, learn one basic thing: from what happened in Kano during the August riots, when people take to the streets, they'd target governors first and they can only move up the ladder once they have brought you down.
You still have time to work for your people and address the basic problems of food security and transportation within your state. We shall criticize the president for the things we must criticize him on. Keep defending nonsense |

DesChyko: A social media user, Mallam Jabeer, took to social media platform to share the state of drinking water, as readily obtained in some areas of Yauri Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Sharing the picture, Mallam Jabeer clarified that the water would have to be bought or families would not have access to water at all.
He went on to query the essence of the government reps if they can't provide potable water for the masses.
Credit: Mallam jabir
Social media users echoed his sentiments, a number of them were shocked, with some confirming that this was indeed true as they have spent time in that area of Kebbi State before now. They should continue suffering, they only protest because power is not in the north, legislators were given cars Worth 160 million each yet the people they claim to represent don't even have portable water to drink... that water is not even healthy to bath or even wash clothes... this is what Peter obi keep hammering, the simple basic needs of the people are not even met but they prefer party and religion over competent and transparency |
