Thanks for this. What about your disposable income though? Please give me a range. sanyaolurilwan: |
For those of you who've been granted a UK visitor visa, how much (in Pounds) did you state as your total budget for one week in the UK (excluding accommodation)? To maximize the likelihood of being granted a visa, what's a reasonable/conservative budget (in Pounds) to state for a one-week visit based on a monthly salary of about 882,000 Naira, total annual allowances of about 1.6 million Naira and a monthly disposable income between 700,000 Naira and 900,000 Naira? Your response will be highly appreciated. |
Hello all, Regarding demonstrating ties to Nigeria for UK the visitor visa application, if one doesn't own any property/assets yet, is it acceptable to present a signed letter from my dad confirming family responsibilities, which include managing family property in his absence, in addition to my birth certificate, an introduction letter, an employment confirmation letter and a leave approval letter from my employer? |
Thanks for your response. Since your average monthly disposable income is between 600,000 Naira and 1,000,000 Naira, can you possibly reduce your total budget for the trip to an amount in the £1,000 to £1,950 range to be on the safe side? Given the range of your average monthly disposable income, £2,000 seems a bit excessive. Gd0007: |
You have a strong profile, which will very likely work in your favor. However, in order to advise accordingly, may I please know what your average monthly disposable income is like? Please provide a range if possible. Since you're planning to spend a total of £2,000 (including flights), your disposable income cannot be significantly less than approx. 2 million Naira (£1,000) per month, or else there might be an issue o because you can't spend more than 2 to 3 times your disposable income. Unfortunately, you'll need a transit visa even if you're just transiting through any airport within the Schengen Area for a few hours. When the UK was still in the EU, Nigerians could fly from Lagos or Abuja to the UK via any Schengen country without needing a transit visa, but this is not the case anymore, due to Brexit. Lol really? Do you have a UK travel history? dewale2k: |
Thanks for this. Prior to your application, did you have a travel history to the UK or any similar country with stringent visa requirements? lukfame: |
I mean if 6 months was a strict requirement for account statements, they would've clearly stated this on their website, so this implies there's no hard and fast rule about submitting bank statements for the past 6 months as long as the bank statements cover at least a three-month period and applicants could have valid reasons for only submitting bank statements for the most recent three-month period like I do, e.g. a recent salary increase, reflecting current income and spending patterns, or inflated expenses due to emergencies for instance, etc. davodyguy: |
If you check their website, you'll realize there's actually no explicit requirement mandating the submission of bank statements for the last 6 months and I've heard about cases where some applicants have been granted visas even after showing account statements for the most recent three-month period, so I think it really just depends on the strength of one's entire application. However, bank statements MUST cover at least a 3-month period. I have also heard that applicants with a proven travel history to countries or regions with strict visa requirements, such as the US, Canada, the UK, and the Schengen Area are likely to be granted more leniency. sanyaolurilwan: |
Congratulations! How long are you visiting and what amount did you put on the application as your total budget (including flights and accommodation)? Would you also mind sharing a range for your disposable income? I believe this will help guide prospective applicants. Thanks. Exceldamsel: |

Good afternoon, all. Please find below a list of my supporting documentation, which will be submitted with my cover letter and online application next month for a one-week trip to London to see my girlfriend: Travel Documents: My passport biodata page and copies of previous United Kingdom study visas issued. Financial Evidence: Stamped salary breakdown (showing prior and current total renumeration), email receipts confirming salary increments, pay slips from employer (for the most recent three-month period), Naira salary account statements (for the most recent three-month period), and United States Dollar (USD) savings account statements (for the most recent three-month period). Accommodation and Travel Details: A detailed travel itinerary & budget breakdown, invitation letter from my host and her supporting documentation (passport biodata page and recent utility bill). Employment Details and Economic Ties: A letter of introduction from my employer, an employment confirmation letter and a signed leave approval letter from my supervisor, which all prove my economic ties. Evidence of Family Ties to Nigeria: My birth certificate and a signed letter from my father, proving family ties and responsibilities (since I don't own property yet). Additional Information: A copy of my host's Nigerian visa sticker proving that she has visited me in Nigeria and photos, proving our relationship. Kindly share your thoughts and advise if I'm omitting anything. Thank you. |
Thanks. The only issue is that there's an approved template used for the introduction letter, which doesn't state renumeration, so it probably makes sense to supplement this introduction letter with email receipts from HR showing my salary breakdown. I can ensure these email receipts are stamped by HR for authenticity purposes. What do you think? giselle237: |
Ok, but what if there are additional allowances received in particular months, which aren't reflected on pay slips, but are shown in a 'total salary' breakdown from HR and reflected in salary account statements? Can one just attach the salary breakdown sent from HR via email (proving additional allowances received), in addition to the regular pay slips and salary account statements? Cashmadam: |
Any idea how UK visa officers calculate monthly disposable income? Is this just your regular 'net monthly salary - monthly expenses', or is it 'total inflows from your employer in a particular month (including any allowances received from employer) - expenses in that month'? Thank you. |
Thanks for your feedback. I think budgeting 1,000 pounds (including flight cost) is reasonable. I'll budget 500 pounds for living expenses (excluding accommodation) for a week and like 500 pounds for the cost of airfare. 500 pounds is like 1.1m and I should be able to get a flight ticket for this amount using any of the African airlines like RwandAir or Royal Air Maroc. There's no way my expenses can stay below 300k over the next few months in this high cost of living economy. Since fuel price increased, fueling my car alone every month can be up to100k, so my average monthly expenses are usually somewhere between 350k and 450k. giselle237: |
Thanks. However, do I really need to factor in the cost of airfare into my total budget? Because if I do, my total budget of approximately 1,000 to 1,100 pounds for a one-week trip to London (including flight ticket) will exceed 2 times my monthly disposable income, which they can use as a justification to reject my visa application, or do you think my USD savings of $7k+ will support my case? Can't I just state that my total budget for one week is between 500 and 600 pounds, noting in the 'additional information' section that this budget excludes accommodation covered by my host and excludes airfare, which will be paid for if my visa is granted? davodyguy: |
To everyone who has recently received a UK visitor visa: How much would you advise someone earning about 882,000 Naira per month who receives additional allowances/financial benefits of least 1 million Naira per annum to budget for a one-week trip to London? Disposable income is between 350,000 and 500,000 Naira per month. I'm reluctant to budget 1,000 pounds because this will exceed 2 times my disposable income when converted to pounds (based on the messed up exchange rate), which is a highly common reason for UK visa refusals these days (as seen on this Nairaland forum). Hence, I'm considering budgeting somewhere between 500 and 600 pounds for a week (excluding accommodation covered by my host and airfare), then mentioning in the 'Additional Information' section of the application that 'the 500-600 pounds budget excludes accommodation which will be covered by my host and excludes flight costs as well, which will be covered separately using my USD savings, if my visa is granted.' Please note that I have $7k+ in savings and have been issued a UK student visa twice within the last ten years (once in 2016 and another in 2017), so I really hope my prior student visas will strengthen my application. Looking forward to your response. |
