LATEST report reaching us has it that The
Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board,
(JAMB) has announced that all the
candidates who participated in the 2014/15
UTME, (Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination) candidates that the Admission
Status will be made available next-
Probably before 27th August, 2014.
The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde,
who made this announcement in Lagos,
urged all the Jamb 2014 Candidates to
check the Internet next week to confirm
their proper placement in the nation’s
tertiary institutions.
Prof. Dibu Ojerinde also announced that no
fewer than 700,000 candidates would
secure admission to the nation’s tertiary
institutions for the 2014/2015 academic
session.
If we recalled, more than 1.6m candidates
sat for the Joint Admission and
Matriculation Board, JAMB examination, the
exam which comprises of the Paper-Pencil
Test, (PPT) – Dual Based test, (DBT) and the
Computer-Based-Test, (CBT) last April and
May. About 60 per cent (plus) candidates
who will not be admitted into any tertiary
institution for the 2014/2015 Session.
According to Dibu Ojerinde, the National
Universities Commission, National Board
for Technical Education and the National
Commission of Colleges of Education have
this year increased the carrying capacity of
the schools under their superintendence.
Dibu Ojerinde, who had earlier urged the
participants of the TCM to endeavour to
conclude the session on time, said the call
became imperative to enable the board to
finalise its admission process this year.
He added that the early conclusion of the
exercise, especially the cut off marks for
candidates’ first-choice universities, would
also prepare the board to make admission
provisions for other candidates in their
respective schools of second choice.
The JAMB boss added, “There is no
gainsaying the fact that the challenge of the
rising demand for access to tertiary
institutions in Nigeria means that the entry
process must be well-managed and
seamless.
It is for this reason that the Board expects
every institution to abide by the admissions
timetable as already agreed upon at the
Policy Meeting of July 1, 2014.
“We must adhere strictly to the guidelines
which stipulates a 60:40 Science/arts ratio,
45,35,20 of Federal ratio, 70:30 of
Technology/non-Technology ratio, as well
as the ratio of 40:40:20 (merit/catchment
area/educationally less developed area) for
state owned institutions.
“As a reminder, it has also become
imperative to stress once more, that all
admissions for the 2014/ 2015 academic
session will end on Friday, October 31,
2014. All institutions are hereby enjoined
to adhere to the stipulated date, as late
submissions will not be entertained.”

Great Ife be warned!
As we prepare for resumption, we must
all know that it is not impossible for us
to return home quick. You are surprise?
Oh! You want to ask why? Basically
because of Ebola Virus Disease amid
other reasons.
If care is not taken we will be sent home
not by the school management but by
the Federal Government because of EVD.
We have not resumed fully and students
have started creating panic about Ebola
on campus. Why? You must realise that
any rumour about EVD on OAU campus
can easily be believed by any one
because of the massive presence of bats,
which is believed to be one of the major
carriers of EVD.
Most of us may think the federal
government is not taking the issue
serious but occurrences have shown that
EVD is not a child's play. If FG can ask all
primary and Secondary Schools not to
resume because of EVD, what ll take it to
indefinitely shut down OAU. It won't be
easy to reopen if closed by FG at all..the
conditions for reopening will definitely
be stiffer.
Let us be very careful with the kind of
jokes we crack, kind of things we post,
confirm every rumour before spreading
it; we need to graduate on time; the
image of OAU must be our concern. Or
how will you feel to read/listen/watch on
national newspapers/Radio/TV that
'Federal Government closes OAU over
Ebola'?... Please let us be careful.

University in Nigeria and 19th in Africa.
Reacting, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor

The pre-eminent position of the University
of Ilorin among its peers in Nigeria has
again been reaffirmed, as it has been
ranked as the first university in the country.
In the 2014 University Web Ranking
conducted by 4 International Colleges and
Universities (4ICU) and released last
Tuesday (July 29, 2014),Unilorin was also
adjudged the 20th best University in Africa
and the 1842nd in the world.
The 4ICU, an online ranking agency, is an
international higher education search
engine and directory reviewing accredited
universities and colleges. For the latest
exercise, it ranked about 11,307 colleges
and universities by web popularity in over
200 countries.
With the new ranking, the University of
Ilorin's status as the nation's number one
University has been given an international
confirmation. Statistics released recently by
the National Universities Commission (NUC)
and the Joint Admissions and
Matriculations Board (JAMB) after the last
Unified Tertiary Institution Matriculations
Examination (UTME) showed that the
University of Ilorin was the most subscribed
university in the country with a total of
over 105,000 candidates seeking to enter
the University in the 2014/2015 academic
session. The University of Benin, Benin City
came second in this respect with about
76,000 admission seekers.
Since 2011, the University of Ilorin has
maintained a steady rise among most
preferred institutions by admission seekers
in the country. In 2011, it ranked 8th; it
ranked 5th in 2012; 2nd in 2013 and 1st this
year.
In the 2014 University Web Ranking, the
University of Lagos comes second in Nigeria
and 21st in Africa while the third position
goes to Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-
Ife, which also comes 26th in Africa.
Also on the ranking table are: the University
of Ibadan, 4th in Nigeria and 38th in Africa;
the Landmark University, Omu-Aran, Kwara
State, 5th in Nigeria and 59th in Africa;
Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, 6th in
Nigeria and 63rd in Africa; the Federal
University, Minna, 7th in Nigeria and 71st in
Africa; the University of Benin, 8th in
Nigeria and 82nd in Africa; the University of
Agriculture, Abeokuta, 9th in Nigeria and
87th in Africa; and the University of Nigeria,
Nsukka, 10th in Nigeria and 89th in Africa.
In his reaction to the new ranking, the Vice-
Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali,
expressed delight, describing it as “the best
ranking for the University so far.”
Prof. Ambali congratulated all members of
the University community on the new feat,
urging all academic and non-academic staff
to continue to put in their best in the
service of the University. “The latest ranking
is one of the best so far by any university
in Nigeria”, the Vice-Chancellor said, adding
that “we should strive to become the best
in Africa by the next ranking.

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-

Ilorin, Kwara State have differed on
which is the best university in Nigeria.
While OAU is claiming to be the best,
pointing to a ranking by Cybermetrics
Lab-CSIC, based in Spain, UNILORIN is
backing its position with a ranking
carried out by the International
Colleges and Universities Web
Ranking.
According to OAU Public Relations
Officer, Mr. Biodun Olarewaju, the
university has been for fourth
consecutive times ranked first in
Nigeria.
Olarewaju said, “According to the latest
ranking released in July, 2014 on its
website: www.webometrics.info/
en/africa/nigeria
OAU has been
adjudged to have continuously
recorded excellence in its area of
research, academic, university
governance and extensive deployment
of ICT for its operations.
“This is the first time that any Nigerian
university would be so ranked and
rated the first and the best for four
times running, bringing to rest any
contention from any quarter.
But, a statement by the UNILORIN
Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr.
Kunle Akogu, said the university was
adjudged best in Nigeria.
According to him, the university is also
20th best university in Africa and
1,842nd in the world in the 2014
University Web Ranking.
He said the result of the ranking
conducted by International Colleges
and Universities was released on July
