PoliticsCONFAB: “nigeria” To Be Changed To “airegin” – Delegate ~ Does It Make Sense? by Babafaros(op): 1:24am On Jul 05, 2014
A federal government delegate, Chief Mike
Ozekhome, SAN yesterday called for change
of the present name of Nigeria to a
proposed one called “Airegin” because
according to him, the name Nigeria was
twisted by the colonialists and it would
make a clean brake from the past.
Speaking yesterday while contributing at
plenary during debate on report of
committee on Political Restructuring and
Forms of Government with Gen. Ike
Nwachukwu and Mohammed Umara
Kumalia as co- Chairmen, Ozekhome also
called for a reversal from the present
National Anthem to the former and older
one which was written by Taiwo Akinwumi,
adding that the old flag that was designed
with the rising sun on it should be re-
introduced against the backdrop that it was
peculiar with all parts of the country.
The delegate who noted that when the
country replaces all these, it would then
help Nigeria wash off the colonial legacy,
adding, “It was a colonial imposed name
which should be changed to reflect
originality.
“I want to move that this
conference should consider
changing the name of the country
to reflect our originality. The name
Nigeria was a colonial imposition
which must be corrected. The name
was given to the country by Lady
Flora Shaw who later became Lady
Lugard”.
According to him, prior to the
change of name, Nigeria as a
country was known as the
Northern and Southern
Protectorates meaning Niger Area
or areas within the River Niger by
Lady Flora Shaw, adding, “The
country was known formally as the
Southern and Northern
Protectorates before the name
change. It was changed because
they said it was too long for them
to pronounce.
“I suggested that the name should
be changed from Nigeria to
Airegin. It was just gotten when
you write the name Nigeria from
“Right to Left”.
On the additional one state given to the
South East geo-political zone, while
disagreeing with a delegate representing
Federal Government and Environmental
activist, Ledum Mitee who opposed the
state, Ozekhome said that he supported the
additional state as it will integrate the zone
into the system.
He also lend his support to the
Committee’s recommendation for states to
serve as federating units, stressing that
there is need for states to have their own
constitution to reflect their peculiarities.
Meanwhile, aides of delegates particularly
drivers yesterday protested to the entrance
of Andrews Otutu Obaseki hall, venue of
plenary sessions of the on – going National
Conference over what they termed ill-
treatment, but were stopped from entering
by men of the department of State Security
Service, SSS.
According to the aides who were led by
Egwuata Remigius, they were deprived of
allowances, welfare ranging from food to
accommodations adding that while the
delegates whom they drive sleep in hotels,
they sleep in their cars.
Their placards read, “many drivers
sleep in cars at hotels and parks,
have we lost our moral compass?
“Justice Kutigi please do justice to
our matter. We are citizens of this
great country, we are in this
together. Take care of us please .
There is God O Mama please
intercede for your children OOO.
Our mothers at the conference,
please speak for your Children.
“Drivers and Aides unwatered for
which way National Conference,
2014. We are degree holders as
aides and drivers; we are no
pushover. Obasanjo paid Aides and
drivers at 2005 Political Conference
whitter 2014 National Conference.
The protesting Aides were however
stopped by the SSS led by
Emmanuel Emordi who asked them
to leave with their placards.
Kutigi admits Igbeke to replace
Akunyili
Meanwhile, Senator Alphonsus
Igbeke was yesterday announced
by Chairman of the Conference,
Justice Idris Kutigi as a
replacement for a former Minister
of Information and
Communications, Prof. Dora
Akunyili.
It would be recalled that the
former Director-General of the
National Agency for Foods and
Drugs Administration, NAFDAC and
a delegate representing Anambra
State, died Saturday June 7.
She was the third delegate to die
since the inauguration of the
confab by President Goodluck
Jonathan 17 th March.
Igbeke’s name was announced to the
plenary by Kutigi amidst applause and
clapping of hands from fellow delegates.
The Senator who represented Anambra
North Senatorial District on the platform of
the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP was
earlier sited by on Tuesday evening when
he came to finalize his documentation with
the Conference Secretariat and later
confirmed that he was at the Conference to
replace Akunyili .

EducationAdmission Into MED Schools In Nigeria - What You Need To Know by Babafaros(op): 7:00pm On Jun 28, 2014
In Nigeria Medicine as an academic and
professional course has been seen by
many students as one that holds a
promise of immediate and lucrative
employment after graduation
considering the economic state of the
country.
This has led to many candidates trying at all
cost to gain admission into universities to
study medicine every year even those that
cannot stand the sight of blood and have
no such demeanor associated with Gifted
doctors .
If you are an aspirant of Medicine and
surgery in any of the Nigerian Universities,
you may need to know this;
Going by the investigation carried out
recently, only seventeen Universities in
Nigeria has accreditation to offer medicine
and few of them is a private university but
most are public universities.
So, for those of you who are about to enroll
into any university to study medicine, be
informed before making that move to avoid
coming out with worthless certificates.

Music/RadioDavido Might Shoot Another Skelewu Video With Clarence Peters by Babafaros(op):
After dropping two music videos and
one instructional dance video,
Davido’s “Skelewu” continues to be
the talk of the town. This is simply not
because it’s one of Nigeria’s biggest
pop songs of the entire year but
simply because of it’s multiple videos.
During the week, Davido tried to dispel
the criticisms trailing the video on his
Twitter account. He wasn’t the only
individual who has reacted to the
criticisms. The director of the last video,
Moe Musa has also reacted.
Overwhelmed by critique on Twitter
once the video dropped last Monday,
Musa tweeted, “ Love it or hate it, it’s
your issue not mine.
All you could haters out you will find
packed with s**t, lol. ” Prior to this,
reports said, Davido was not pleased
using what Moe Musa shot in the UK for
his hit single and planned to shoot
another video with Clarence Peters. He
has already paid Clarence
Peters the sum of N7million to shoot a
great video for him.......

PoliticsAnother Aviation Agency Bought 4 Toyota &four Limousines For Oduah by Babafaros(op): 7:16am On Oct 22, 2013
A new SaharaReporters
investigation reveals that the
National Airspace Management
Agency (NAMA), another agency
under the Ministry of Aviation,
also purchased four Toyota
Tundra vehicles for the Minister,
Mrs. Stella Oduah.
Nigerians are currently up in
arms about two armored cars
purchased for her by another
agency, the Nigeria Civil Aviation
Authority, at the scandalous rate
of N225million, and many are
calling for her to be fired.
The Tundras are in addition to
four stretch limousine cars that
were allegedly purchased for the
movement of VIPs.
Saharareporters obtained the
photos of the Limousines, which
were parked at the headquarters
of the Total Radar Coverage of
Nigeria (TRACON)
grounds in Abuja today.
Efforts to get the NAMA
spokesperson, Supo Atobatele, to
comment on the fresh allegations
proved abortive as he claimed he
was driving and could not speak
on the wheel. When later
confronted with the facts, Mr.
Atobatele denied the existence of
the stretch limos claiming that
NAMA is a “professional agency”
that provides navigational aid to
aircrafts flying within Nigeria’s
airspace. He hung up and
switched off his phone when
further told that Saharareporters
had the photos.
NAMA’s CEO, Nnamdi Udo,
reportedly made the purchase
and ‘donation’ of the Tundras to
the Minister in June 2013. The
four Limousines were received in
the third week of June but have
never been put to use.
Last week after SaharaReporters
revealed the purchase of two
BMW armored cars for the
Minister, her aides and later the
Managing Director of the Nigeria
Civil Aviation Authority, Fola
Akinkuotu, claimed the vehicles
were meant for VIP movement,
but a former lawmaker and
leader of Anti-Corruption
Network, Dino Melaye, told
SaharaReporters today that it is
the duty of the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs to transport
international VIPs in Nigeria.
He also revealed that the most
important Aviation inspectors are
teams from the ICAO who already
have a Nigerian office which
handles all their transactions.
SaharaReporters could not
confirm if the NAMA limos are
armored. It is also unclear why
NAMA, an agency believed to be
cash-strapped, would need
stretch limos that are normally
used by celebrities, to ferry
international VIPS.
Meanwhile, a high-level source
has confirmed to
SaharaReporters that the Total
Radar Coverage of Nigeria, which
Mrs. Oduah brags about as one
of
her achievements in office,
provides epileptic service.
Because it often breaks down,
the objective of establishing a
safer national airspace is said to
have been compromised. Foreign
airlines are said to rely on their
built in navigational equipment
for air safety within the Nigerian
airspace.

PoliticsJonathan Sets Deadline For Registration Of All Nigerians by Babafaros(op):
President Goodluck Jonathan on
Thursday inaugurated the National
Identity Card Project with a directive
that all eligible Nigerians should be
registered by the National Identity
Management Commission (NIMC) by
December 2014.
Jonathan gave the directive during a
ceremony at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja, where he also launched the
National Identification Number (NIN),
expressing displeasure at the
proliferation of data capturing activities
by private and public institutions in the
country.
“Aside from being unwieldy, the cost of
operating multiple discordant data bases
and infrastructure is unsustainable.
“Government cannot afford continued
proliferation of data capture activities.
Proliferation does not grant any
advantage in efficiency neither does it
make good economic sense. The growing
identity verification needs, therefore,
calls for harmonization and integration
of identity data bases in the
development of a universal service
infrastructure.
“To achieve this goal, the National
Identity Management Commission
should ensure that by Dec. 31, 2014 all
persons eligible for registration as
provided for in section 16 of the
National Identity Management Act No. 23

PoliticsNSCDC Arrest Pipeline Vandals In Oyo by Babafaros(op): 10:49pm On Oct 18, 2013
Mr Shem Obafaiye, the Oyo State Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), says the command has arrested three of the six suspected leaders behind pipeline vandalism in the state.

Obafaiye said this on Thursday at the command’s headquarters in Ibadan while parading a 35-year-old driver arrested for oil pipeline vandalism.

Acknowledging that the fight against vandalism was tough, Obafaiye said the commitment of the NSCDC was to sustain the campaign.

“The command has been able to arrest three out of the six barons we have identified to be the brains behind vandalism in the state.

“We will continue to fight and no matter the challenge that may arise in the course of performing our duties, we are resilient,” Obafaiye said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspect was arrested in possession of a 33,000 litre tanker marked XB 190 SMK.

Obafaiye said the suspect was arrested on Oct. 9 at Odo-Oba, Ogbomoso, during a joint operation between the NSCDC and the state police special squad known as, “Operation Burst.”

“They had succeeded in loading the truck with 22,000 litres of petrol, but on sighting our men, others escaped while we arrested one person,” he said.

Obafaiye said that the truck would soon be taken to the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, for decanting.

The suspect however, told reporters that he was not aware that his friend whom he thought was helping him was involved in pipeline vandalism.

“I met Kazeem, the owner of this tanker, who invited me to load his tanker with fuel and because I was out of job for about six months, I thought this was the breakthrough.

“It was not until we got to the site at about 1.00 a.m. that I realised I was walking into trouble.

“It was very late and I had only N90 on me. I could not shout or run. I was, therefore, stranded with them in the middle of nowhere.

“I am married with three kids and my regret is that while Kazeem escaped with none of his phone lines going through, I was arrested,” he said. (NAN)

CelebritiesYinka Ayefele’s Band-boys Disappear During US Tour by Babafaros(op):
As gospel music styled secular singer, Yinka Ayefele arrived the country Tuesday, following a six-week musical tour of the United States, there appeared to be a ‘dent’ on the emotion of the artiste, whose fulfilment of the concert was partially shattered by the disappearance of three of his band boys.

The other members of the group arrived amidst cheers by fans, but one could tell that the leader of the band was worried; perhaps knowing the credibility question the defection by the boys could pose to his career. Reports say the ‘gospel tungba’ crooner, has written to the United States Homeland Security to track and deport the three guys who defected at the tail-end of the inter city concert.

The band left the country on September 2, performing at Washington, Maryland, Baltimore, New York, Atlanta, Houston and Dallas.

In a mail sent to the US agency, Ayefele urged the department to look for the defectors and act accordingly, so as to serve as a lesson to others.

The defectors, according to a release signed by his publicist, David Ajiboye, include Ojoyido Adegbenga Ezekiel (Keyboardist), Solomon Olugbenga Motimoke (Vocalist) and Olusola Kayode Isaac (vocalist). “While Olusola Kayode Isaac defected at the LaGuardiala Airport, New York on Monday, 14th October on his way from Houston with three other members of the band, Ojoyido Adegbenga was said to have disappeared from the group at the Howard Johnson Inn on Rockaway Boulevard, New York on Tuesday, 15th October. The third man was Solomon Motimoke (Yatty), who left the band while still at Washington DC on 11th October,” the statement read.
