2015: DESIST FROM THUGGERY, @KWARAGOVT URGES YOUTHS A call has been made to youths across Kwara state to desist from thuggery, gangsterism, fraud, human cannibalism and other social vices that may mar their future and threaten peaceful co-existence in the state. The call was made by the Senior Special Assistant on Youth Empowerment to the Kwara state governor, Alhaji Saka Babatunde while responding to interview questions in his office. The Governor's Aide decries the fall in social order across the world, stating that the rate of social vices is alarming and it calls for collaborative counter effort in putting an end to the menace. "If you look around the world, social vices is on the increase; thuggery, human cannibalism, fraud among others and Nigeria, Kwara is not excluded in this trend. This explains why the Kwara state government under the leadership of Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed has adopted and prioritized youth employment and empowerment as a major way to counter the progression of social vices among our youths" he stated. Further speaking, ahead of the 2015 general election, Saka who commended youth activeness in Nigeria's political sphere, urged the youths to be sensitize not be lured into violent activities by politicians who want to meet their selfish ends. "I commend our youths, particularly the Kwara youths, who have displayed high level of seriousness and enthusiasm about the need for a better society through collaboration with government policies and reforms; I use this avenue to urge them to be alert, particularly during this election season, so that they will not be lured into violent activities by selfish politicians" he said. Saka also lauded the diligence of Kwara youths of the state employment and empowerment schemes, and encouraged them to continue to support the Governor Abdulfatah led administration in ensuring youth unemployment becomes a thing of the past in Kwara state. Currently Kwara is rated the state with the least youth unemployment rate in Nigeria after Osun state according to the Central Bank of Nigeria's statistics. |
GBENGA MAKANJUOLA DELIVERS CASSSVA PROCESSING PLANT A former member of the House of Representatives, current Chief of Staff to Senator Bukola Saraki, Hon Gbenga Makanjola has been commended for the establishment of agro-processing plant for Gari and Cassava flour in Omu-Aran Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara state. Makanjuola, stressed that the rationale behind the setting up of the plant was to alleviate poverty among his people by creating job opportunity and wealth for the teaming youths in Omu-Aran and its environment. "During my time in the Federal House of Representatives as chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, I took the opportunity to see what I can do that will benefit people of my constituency positively as part of my constituency projects. And I discovered that our people are major producers of cassava and that is what prompted my decision to establish the processing plant to reduce wastage," he said. Makanjuola explained that the farmers could easily make use of the processing plants close to them and bring their cassava for processing without having to spend much. Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mrs. Ibukun Odusote, who was represented by the Director of Special Duties, Mr. Chidi Nwandu, commended the initiator of the project, for his love and commitment to better the lots of farmers in his constituency. According to the Permanent Secretary, Nigeria is the largest producer of cassava in the world producing over (40million) tons annually. He said, "The Nigerian Cassava sub-sector suffers regularly from a glut and consequently cause a decrease in harvest with a rise by as much as 50% every three year." Gbenga Makanjuola is also considered as one of the major contenders for Kwara South Senatorial seat which has been occupied by Senator Simon Ajibola for almost 12 years |
