The House of Representatives on Tuesday passed a bill abolishing the existing dichotomy between Higher National Diploma (HND) and Bachelor’s of Science (BSc) degree holders in the country.

We understands that the “bill for an act to abolish and prohibit dichotomy and discrimination between first degrees and HND in the same profession” was passed during Tuesday’s plenary.

The legislation, which was sponsored by Hon. Ali Isa and Hon. Edward Pwajok from Gombe and Plateau states respectively, had been passed for second reading since April 2017.

It seeks to end perceived discrimination against polytechnic graduates and remove the challenges faced by HND holders, especially those in the public service.

This online news medium understands that the Chairman of the Otukpo council of Benue State George Alli this recently in his office.

According to him, the family is the beginning of a child’s training as he decried the pressures mounted on him by parents whenever someone is arrested over cultism.

The gang — who were all in the UAE on visit visas — were said to be highly organised and plotted a string of orchestrated attacks to ambush security trucks that were transporting money boxes to and from ATMs, and at least one money exchange in Sharjah.

Eight Nigerians have been sentenced to death in the United Arab Emirates for “a string of robberies at money exchanges and cash machines”.

Twenty suspects were arrested for attacking security guards in four incidents of violence at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and money exchanges across Sharjah in late 2016. Nine of the suspects were convicted.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Nigeria’s Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, confirmed it on Friday in a statement describin the death sentence as “unfortunate”. She also expressed concern over the development, stating that the incident is not an actual description of personalities of people of Nigeria.

The Nigerian government has announced plans to introduce solar-powered tricycles and motorcycles into the Nigerian transport system.

Rotimi Amaechi, Nigeria’s Minister of Transportation, said this while swearing in some newly elected executives of the Amalgamated Commercial Tricycle & Motorcycle Owners, Repairs and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN) in Abuja.

Gani Adams, the Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yoruba land, on Thursday tackled the Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, over the claim that life had improved under Buhari’s watch.

This was as Prof Akin Onigbinde described the statistics on Buhari’s achievements as “the reality that we cannot see.”

The Punch reports that the three men were among speakers at the 2nd annual lecture of Freedom Online, which held in Ikeja, Lagos on Thursday.

Adesina and Adams were guests of honour while Onigbinde was the keynote speaker at the event, which had the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, as guest speaker.

Among other dignitaries on the occasion were former governors of Ogun and Abia states, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Orji Uzor Kalu, respectively.

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration has nullified the licence granted to MultiChoice Nigeria Ltd, owners of GOTV.

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), headed by Modibbo Ishaq Kawu, had granted a three-year licence to MultiChoice Nigeria Ltd.

However, Nigeria’s Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, announced that the licence had been withdrawn due to irregularities.According to a report by Daily Independent, this followed the N2.5 billion scandal involving the NBC which the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) had investigated.
