first Chapter

***********

In a Kingdom called Emi Dale which means" a home of rest ", the kingdom was exceedingly blessed with rich and fertile land and also nurture gold, silver and other fine mineral resources. the kingdom was very big compared to others. these wonderful expensive gifts of nature made the people of Emi dale the richest kingdom In their time. the people were extremely filled and grinded in their beliefs, norms and traditions. In respect of this, each decade that comes to past, the people must offer sacrifice of a human head to " Kuti aziki be ayelado" (the gods of wealth and protection ). And they alone, (the gods) are in a bonafide position to select from the families of their choice. despite this, the people were still pleased with their favours.

Etsu Leramo, the king of Emi dale was a very influential man. He was feared and adoured in the kingdom and is fame and reputation spread across the entire Bassa tribe. he was called "tsutsu dagba" (death of elephants). It was said that he, according to history, killed many elephants but in exaggeration, no elephant sees him and live to tell the tale. he was the strongest and wisest amongst his peer group in any activities that steals the admiration of the Community.

Etsu Leramo was a man inclined to fashion. He did not hesitate in displaying his passions for fashion in his home. To mention a few, The palace in particular was well furnished. beautiful ancient carvings could be seen on the throne. on the walls are carved pictures of ancient kings ridding on horses with beautiful saddles on them. he didn't exclude the furnishing of the sits if Saba Etsu (the king's carbinet members). everything in the palace was well decorated.
He was a man who placed great priority on his family compared to others yet, he ruled amicably. The people of Emi dale loved and respected their King for his fair rulings. things were going so well until the period of the annual sacrifice came abode.

***********
on that fateful hours of darkness, yagi dokwu (the grandson of the house of termites) the chief priest and eyes of the gods kept himself busy of making incantations to the gods saying

" owe atumpepe, owe soko naw nim agow igi yekwo aziki doofw, aziki naw wa aza Emi dale po nim zuye mokirio naw, kam modo Dabe, gaw yai, nyongichi no owa naw" .

After saying all these, he threw some pieces of kolanuts at the lifeless woods situated in front of a red cloth that served as platform for the carved woods. he then lifted His two hands up to the sky and recited the same incantations and it was not a matter of time before he brought down his hands with the like of some one who felt a hit in the heart. he shook his head in a sense of pity and turned to the delegates of Etsu Leramo who were impatiently watching the drama perfomed by the priest and waiting for answers from the gods. In anxiety, the Gagwo of the Kingdom, Ya Bala Laingemo asked the priest in Bass accent ' Ya aza naw Kuti Aziki e wa no? (who is the chosen one for this year). To his disappointment, he was given an answer of silence by the priest who was already observing a Little meditation. it was until the alecho of the Kingdom, elder ndakwo kuram hailed the priest in manners full of praises that he regained his physical side and let the cat out if the bag. He (yagi dokwu) said in a soft and solemn tone ' Nimmo (Happiness) of the royal family'. With surprise and in a state of pandemonium, the three elders including the madaki of the Kingdom ya Jacob stood up from the locally stool to confirm the name again from the seer. he only paid a deaf ear to their series of questions as he fully aware that they heard him clearly and looked assuringly at the lifeless woods on the ground with face of extreme respect. In a jiffy, he turned and said to the elders who were now agitating and profusely sweating in reaction to the answer they were given, the day of the offering shall be on the second coming market day of the Kingdom which normally have four days intervals. After this pronouncement, he left the three elders in suspense for his hut singing songs of praises to the gods. It has never occurred in history of their race. shortly after, the three elders confusedly left the shrine and murmured within themselves on the way to the palace.
this period is normally a time of fear and worries for the people of Emi Dale. surprisingly, they are always ready to make the sacrifice because of their complete devotion and dedication to the customs and traditions of the Kingdom. But this year marked the beginning of calamities and catastrophic proceedings in the Kingdom consequently because of the obstinacy of the King.
