The Kano Police Command has traced and rescued nine children kidnapped in Kano and trafficked to Onitsha in Anambra State for child slavery. DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that the rescue followed a public outcry by some parents that there was rise in cases of missing children in the metropolis. Addressing a press conference on Friday, the state commissioner of police Ahmed Ilyasu said the command’s Tactical Teams of Operation Puff Adder were detailed for a discreet investigation, deploying community policing tools in rescuing the minors. “A syndicate perpetuating this heinous act was busted and Eight ( suspects that specialized in kidnapping, concealment and keeping in confinement kidnapped persons, buying and selling of minors and trafficking in persons were tracked and arrested.“Nine (9) kidnapped victims were rescued at Onitsha in Anambra State. All suspects confessed to their offences.” https://dailynigerian.com/shocking-police-rescue-9-kano-children-kidnapped-renamed-and-converted-to-christianity-in-onitsha/ Although the police chief was silent about their conversion and rechristening, a security source familiar with the situation told DAILY NIGERIAN that the children were first shaved, renamed, converted to Christianity and then sold off either for adoption or “child slavery”. A document sighted by DAILY NIGERIAN reveals the original names and new names of the children. For instance, 10-year-old Umar Faruq Ibrahim and nine-year-old Aisha Mohammed Abdullahi – kidnapped some four year ago – were renamed Onyedika Ogbodo and Ozioma Ogbodo respectively. DAILY NIGERIAN gathered that some of the children could not even recall their real names as they only answer their new names. What leads to the rescue Between year 2014 to 2019, one Sagir Mohammed Bako of Yankaba quarters and others reported to the commissioner of police that several number of their children whose age are between two and six years have been kidnapped and taken away to unknown destination by unknown persons. On September 12, at about 11:00am one Paul Owne of Dakata Quarters and Mercy Paul alias Maimuna of same address were arrested while trying to take one of the kidnapped victims, Haruna Sagir Bako, to Onitsha in Anambra State. The victim was kidnapped a day earlier on his way back from Islamiyya School at Yankaba Quarters by Messrs Onwe and Paul. While advising parents to be vigilant, a security source said a number of similar syndicates are operating in the state. “Parents should be very watchful and avoid what will leave them in perpetual agony. The kidnappers are on the prowl. They will just kidnap today, board luxurious bus the next day and sell off children for slavery,” he said.

Why Nigerian Army has not defeated Boko Haram – Theatre Commander The major factor that hinders the Nigerian army from defeating Boko Haram is the lack of an “army aviation,” the man who heads the army’s operations against the terror group said. Olusegun Adeniyi, who is the Theater Commander of the army’s Operation Lafiya Dole, said this when he received a delegation of the National Assembly joint committee on the army on Thursday. Mr Adeniyi, a major general, took over the command of the military’s counter-insurgency operation about two months ago. The visiting lawmakers, led by Borno senator, Ali Ndume, arrived Maiduguri on Thursday afternoon for a two days oversight assignment at the front line. The war general said Boko Haram has never been a “formidable force” as they are perceived to be. “The only thing that needs to be given to the army now is Nigeria Army Aviation,” he said. “There is a way you solve a problem that will change the game. The army needs combat helicopters to end the Boko Haram war. If we have it, it will not be deployed like air force assets, air force jets which are for bigger strategic goals. “These helicopters will sleep with us in the trench, they will be with us in the front line. These helicopters and the rifles are dispatched together. “I know this has been on the table for years. When this is done, Nigeria can forget about Boko Haram.” Despite the insurgents killing hundreds of soldiers in the past year, Mr Adeniyi emphasised his belief that they are not a formidable force. “Let me say Boko Haram is not a formidable force, Boko Haram is not strong; Boko Haram cannot sustain 15 minutes of intensive firing. I personally exchange with Boko Haram in Marte, in Delta, in Gubio as deputy theater commander and as theatre commander,” he said. Mr Adeniyi urged the lawmakers to “please go and tell Abuja that Boko Haram is not a formidable force that the military cannot defeat.” He spoke more on the army’s request for its own combat helicopters, separate from those of the air force. He said unlike the air force jets, the army aviation helicopters would perform more critical roles during attacks. “Air force is doing a wonderful job, but their reach is too long;… it is what we call close air support.” The visiting lawmakers had, shortly after their arrival, met with some of the troops on the battlefront. The joint committee later had a closed-door meeting with Mr Adeniyi and his lieutenants who briefed them on the ongoing operation. At the end of the closed-door meeting that lasted around three hours, Mr. Ndume, who is the Senate Committee Chairman on Army, and his House of Reps counterpart, Abdulrazaq Namdas, informed journalists at a joint briefing that they were pleased with troops’ commitment to end the Boko Haram war. Mr Ndume said they were in Borno State as part of their oversight responsibilities to, specifically, interface with the troops with a view to finding out their challenges and what they need to effectively end the Boko Haram insurgency. “The main reason the joint committee on the army is here is in line with our collective decision that there is a need for us to see things for ourselves and have a first-hand appreciation of what is going on here in Borno State,” he said. “Now that the issue of the insurgency is resurfacing in this part of the northeast, it is the best time to visit especially as it coincides with the time the nation’s budget is being presented by Mr President. “This affords us golden opportunity to seat and have a discussion with the officers and men on ground so that we can know what needs to be done for the troops immediately can be captured in the next budget.” He said all the interaction the committee had with the men on the ground was “very useful.” “We have discussed with the troops; but as you know, our deliberations cannot be made public because it pertains security. “But I can assure you that the new leadership of the theatre and their demonstrated determination to this war is quite inspiring.” Adamawa State Reps member, Mr. Namdas, said their interaction with Mr Adeniyi has inspired their hopes that with little support the troops will deliver. “The commander and his troops are committed and very much ready to take on the fight and they are committed to it,” he said. “All they need is to see our support and we have given them our words that we are going to give all the supports that they need because commitment is key. They have demonstrated it and we are comfortable with them and we would take it on from there.” The NASS committee on army is expected to continue its tour of troops location around Maiduguri on Friday. The Boko Haram insurgency which started about 11 years ago, has continued to drag on till now despite government funding for the troops. The federal government has repeatedly claimed the terrorists and their activities have been decimated and that Boko Haram is no longer a threat. But the actions of the outlawed armed group in recent months during which hundreds of soldiers were killed have called to questions the claims by the government. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/357102-why-nigerian-army-has-not-defeated-boko-haram-theatre-commander.html/amp/ |

My Ogas in the house, Thank you for the knowledge sharing on this platform. I recently started building a 4 bedroom bungalow. The attached picture is the work so far. I am operating on a tight budget, so I am trying to avoid anything that is not necessary at this stage. I was advised to do 'half DPC', because the area doesn't have a history of water rising to affect buildings. Many houses around the area are not even DPC'd. Do you think the 'half DPC' can prevent moisture rise in case it happens?

Isahalbash:Sosai ma kuwa. Gani su ke wai su kadai suka iya bayan ko tsallake gadar Jebba wasunsu ba su taba ba. I have read many ignorant comments here. It is sad that those spewing such trash supposed have some education. High performance doesnt come from nowhere, it is a result of dedication, focus and tenacity. It has no nexus with your region or religion. Education is not new to the North, even the colonialist met us a with an intricate political and educational system bequeathed by our forefathers. The South embraced western education earlier but that doesnt mean people down north are not well schooled. |
decasey:Why are you obsessed with 'northern guys'? Or has your brain been gradually saturated with the ill informed notion that northerners do not get appointment meritoriously? If yes, you have fallen into a deep abyss and I pray you emerge from it soon. If NNPC goes ahead to recruit on 'who-you-know' principle, it will not be about the north vs south, islam vs Christianity...., but an interclass struggle between the elite and the masses. The elitist class will distribute the slots among themselves, using their own quota system. Just go and do a check into recent recruitment drives by 'lucrative' govt agencies e.g. CBN, DPR, FIRS etc, and you will most likely validate what I stated. |
A gateman, Musa Usman, has rejected a house offer as parting gift from his boss whom he served for 25 years, requesting for a borehole for his community instead. Usman, who hail from Giljimmi, a Fulani settlement in Birniwa local government area of Jigawa state, lives with his family in a thatch house. Usman, who served the Indian national, the Managing Director of a pharmaceutical company, Jawa International Limited in Lagos for 25 years, left the services of his boss in order to reunite with his family in the village. When Usman was leaving, the Managing Director of the Jawa Internatiinal Limited, Mr. V. Verghese, decided to build a house for him as part of appreciation for his diligent service while he was his gateman but Usman, whose community is suffering from acute water shortage, rejected the offer of the house and asked for the construction of borehole for his people instead. People in Usman’s community, who hitherto had to trek for long distance to fetch drinking water are now having drinking water in the community. In his address at the commissioning of the borehole, Mr. Verghese, said his decision for the parting gift was as a result of high degree of honesty exhibited by Usman while he was working for him, saying there was never a time when any of his items ever missed in the house for the period he had stayed with him. “Musa has served me diligently for 25 years. We will travel to India and leave our house under his care and behold, we will meet everything intact. He is indeed, a honest Nigeria.” In his address, Usman, thanked Mr. Verghese, for the kind gesture, saying there was no regret in rejecting the house offer. https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/gateman-rejects-house-offer-for-borehole-in-his-community.html
