PoliticsNyesom Wike:voted By The People, Ordained By God, Confirmed By The Supreme Court by BakaSumtin(op): 9:07am On Feb 02, 2016
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike is a product of the most significant trinity in our political history. He was voted by the people, ordained by God and confirmed by the Supreme Court. He is a man of destiny, set apart by God to deliver Rivers State from an evil power centre, only greedy for the resources of the state without any commitment to the welfare of the people.
That Governor Wike is the most popular politician and statesman from Rivers State is no longer in doubt. Even his worst enemies agree that he has a link with the people, who love him for his pro-people politics and programmes.
The confirmation of Governor Wike’s election has completed a renowned trinity of sorts in the face of unnecessary and baseless propaganda engineered by the Rivers State APC, using ill-gotten funds acquired from the state coffers. These unpopular politicians used the media to create the impression that the governorship election was marred by violence and irregularities. In Court, they tendered no evidence to prove their outlandish allegations.
For a political party that claimed that the governorship election did not hold in the state, it was shocking that the Rivers State APC called only three voters to prove that elections were marred by irregularities in 4442 polling units spread across 23 LGAS. Of these three voters, only one claimed he was disenfranchised. The Supreme Court has been consistent in insisting that you can only prove electoral fraud on a polling unit by polling unit basis. Proving electoral fraud is not an issue of propaganda and political blackmail.
The Supreme Court Seven-Man Panel headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmood Mohammed with Justices Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed, Kumai Bayang Aka’ahs, Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-kun, Syvester Ngbuta , John Inyang Okoro and Amiru Sanusi as co-panelists enthroned the Supremacy of Law over the conflicting opinions of the lower courts.
Apart from this obvious lacuna in its case, the Rivers State APC all through relied on the card reader report which only reflected accreditation via card reader without mentioning accreditation via the manual process as recognised by the Electoral Act. Expectedly, this failed them as the Supreme Court had on several occasions made its position known on the legal process of accreditation recognised by law.
It was shocking that the Rivers APC thought it could rubbish the mandate of the Rivers people by relying on documentary hearsay as exemplified by the report by the INEC staff it directly subpoenaed who visited a few local government areas, but reported on the whole election, though he was never a direct participant in the conduct of the election at the polling station.
Aside the media drama sponsored by the Rivers APC, there was nothing before any of the courts to prove the stories they published about the election.
There is a need to recall that the Court of Appeal struck out over 100 paragraphs of the Rivers State APC petition wherein the party made wild allegations against named and unnamed security personnel who participated in the election. Despite this fatal blow to the petition, the Tribunal and the same Appeal Court relied on these security agents to reach their perverse judgments . These security agents had in open court admitted that they were not participants at the respective polling units and therefore only heard their testimonies from other interested parties.
Nigerians will further recall that at the middle of the sitting of the tribunal for inexplicable reasons the first chairman, Justice Pindiga was removed and replaced with Justice Suleiman Ambrosa. Justice Ambrosa went ahead to deliver rulings for applications that he did not have the privilege of hearing. He merely fulfilled all righteousness, but failed to do justice according to the law.
The Supreme Court has reinstated the confidence of Nigerians in the Judicial process by interpreting the law in line with the tenets governing the elections. They have confirmed what all the people of Rivers State knew as far back as April , 2015 when INEC declared Governor Wike the winner of the Rivers State Governorship election.
There has never been APC in Rivers State. Those who pretend to be APC leaders are not on ground in Rivers State. They are more at home in Lagos and Abuja, where their media associates build political castles in the air for them.
While Governor Wike campaigned in all the wards of Rivers State before the April 11 and 12, 2015 Governorship Election, the Rivers State APC wallowed in propaganda, having photo sessions in studios, thus neglecting the people.
Beyond the issue of Wike’s mass popularity is the fact that the leadership of the Rivers State APC raped and battered the state for eight years . These officials under the tutelage of immediate past Governor Rotimi Amaechi squandered N3trillion in the worst financial disaster ever to hit any state of the Federation. After eight years of failure, the people of the state looked for a disciplined, compassionate and focused leader. They settled for Governor Wike who broke the riverine/upland dichotomy.
The confirmation of Governor Wike’s election will further enhance the ongoing development process already entrenched in the state. With the conclusion of the legal challenge to the people’s mandate, the Governor will consolidate on the gains of his superlative performance.
The calm and jubilant acceptance of the judgment across the 23 LGAS of Rivers State is a further proof that external forces can never shake the resolve of the people to stand by Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the very best in this dispensation. Intimidation and other techniques have failed as the will of God and the preference of the people have been enthroned.
Since May 29, 2015, Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike played host to several men of God from different denominations of the Christian faith and leaders of other religious persuasions. Like the people of Rivers State, all the religious leaders, hearing from God, declared that Wike was ordained by God for a time as this. The Rivers APC in several statements and releases made mockery of Governor Wike’s association with the clergy, claiming that 1000 high profile Preachers would not save him from their devilish onslaught. As they say, the rest is now history. The horse and its rider have been thrown into the sea by God. Rivers State is set apart by God for this trying phase in the history of Nigeria and it will always weather the storm of manipulations in high places.
It is necessary to highlight the issue of the appellation of ‘caretaker governor ‘ introduced in our political lexicon by Rivers State APC whilst the legal tussle lasted. I find this interpretation by the Rivers State APC quite interesting and thought provoking. Though, in concert with their ever pliant media associates, the Rivers State APC sought to malign Governor Wike with the ‘caretaker governor ‘ description, they inadvertently aptly described him.
Governor Wike was voted into office by the good people of Rivers State for his political, managerial and administrative skills of taking care of people. Like the traditional caretaker, Governor Wike is not the landlord since the people of Rivers State collectively own the state. He was only elected because the people found him worthy to effectively take care of the state. This caretaker governor will continue to develop Rivers State as that is what the people asked him to do.
It is about Rivers State. It has nothing to do with PDP or APC. It is about the preservation of the ideals of the state and the promotion of her dignity and interests. Nobody would be allowed to rubbish the state on the altar of servitude and financial greed.
In his state broadcast titled “To God be the Glory” after the judgment of the Supreme Court, Governor Wike praised God for the feat, commended the Judiciary for its independence and commitment to the rule of law and extended a hand of brotherly fellowship to the leadership of the Rivers APC and her governorship candidate, Dakuku Peterside in the quest to develop the state.
He assured the people of the state of his determination to continue with the massive development of the state as he has done in the past eight months despite the distractions of the legal tussle.
He said : “The New Rivers Vision seeks a balanced development and enhanced quality of life for the present and future generations through responsive governance guided by the fear of God. I assure them that no one will be excluded from the governance process because, working together, we will certainly achieve more.
“We thank the Almighty God for His Grace. For without Him, we are nothing and we could have done or achieved nothing.
“As children of God, we pledge to continue to run a just and equitable administration that will hopefully lead to greater development for our State and the happiness of the greatest number of our people.”
It is imperative to conclude that the Supreme Court by its well considered judgment in the Rivers State Governorship election tussle has returned power back to the people of Rivers State.
The implication is simple : Never again will a bunch of political misfits and charlatans think that they can wrest power from the people via the use of deadly propaganda, fictional testimonies in court and anti -people conspiracies in high places.
The judgment statement is unambiguous. Election can only be won at the polling unit, not through illegal means contrived in the homes of political armed robbers who deride their people every step of the way. Most importantly, Rivers State is NEW.

PoliticsSupreme Court Judgment: We Stand With Wike by BakaSumtin(op): 2:39pm On Jan 27, 2016
SUPREME COURT JUDGMENT: WE STAND WITH WIKE

Good morning, good people of Rivers State, and ardent supporters of the NEW Rivers State Government. Today is the beginning of an important process in the history of Rivers State. The Supreme Court of Nigeria is presently hearing the appeal case brought to it by the Rivers State Governor, Barr. Ezenwo Wike, following the annulment of his election by the Rivers State election tribunal which was sat in Abuja, and the endorsement of that action by the Court of Appeal.

Because the Governor believes in the democratic process that brought him to service by Rivers people, he has decided to exhaust all available legal options to defend the votes of Rivers electorates. There are different angles to today’s hearing. The first is that this is the first hearing at the Supreme Court, which means there could be subsequent hearings. The second is that a decision may be reached today after the hearing, which would result in one of two options: Governor Wike is re-affirmed Governor by the Supreme Court; or a rerun of the governorship elections in the state could be ordered.

The most likely outcome is the affirmation of Governor Wike, since all the evidence indicate a lawful, peaceful, free, fair, and credible elections in Rivers State, through which the Governor emerged. If the Supreme Court today decides on a rerun, however, rivers people are unshaken, as the same votes which were counted in the state on the 11th of April, last year would be counted in the rerun, and a landslide victory for Governor Wike and Rivers people would be inevitable. Just like in Bayelsa, the people of Rivers State and South-South will always unite against political tyranny in the guise of unreal change chants.

While Rivers people readily await the outcome of the Supreme Court session(s), bear one thing in mind: Governor Wike remains Governor of Rivers State.

Welfare of military personnel should be given top priority --Governor Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared the welfare of families of slain military personnel and surviving retired military personnel should be given top priority by relevant authorities.

Speaking during an inter-denominational Church Service at Saint Thomas Anglican Church to mark this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day, Governor Wike said that the nation needs to cater for all serving and retired military personnel who have sacrificed to protect others in the country.

He noted that it is important to always celebrate the soldiers who lost their lives defending the nation while others were pursuing their personal endeavours.

"If you see people who have volunteered to join the security forces when others are scared of making the sacrifice, we need to pray for them" .

Infamous N82million Dinner: Activist asks Soyinka to stop the long grammar and defend himself

By Sunny Akhigbe

I knew it would come to this! Readers would recall that I had queried Soyinka’s frequent visits to Rivers state, always at the beck and call of Amaechi in the guise of launching one “book fair” or another.

They said they had made PH a UNICEF book capital. When I did in this forum some none entities started insulting a lone voice of reason. I even carried it to the realm of gossip when I asked if Soyinka was so broke that he needed financial rehabilitation.

I did not see any real connection between an intellectual like Soyinka and a debased treacherous politician like Amaechi who at best exhibits halitosis of the intellect. It was so bad that Soyinka appeared like a special assistant to Amaechi, always by him at every occasion.

I have not said here that Soyinka is guilty as charged. The man should please clear his name. This is not the time to speak grammar. Any time Soyinka wants to obfuscate the facts and confuse his readers, he engages in tangled maize of effusive verbiage. This is not the time for rhetorics. What could make Rotimi Ameachi arrive Port Harcourt in a private jet but leave red eyed on a commercial flight ? The answer is Social Media.

What could make Dr Buhari withdraw a presented budget to powder it's excesses? The answer again is Social Media.

With the strangulation of the other arms of government Social Media has taken the lead in the 4th estate and is serving as a check to dictatorship and avarice in Nigeria.

We must keep it at the fore of our mind that Social Media is a very potent tool for social reengineering and the protection of what is left of our democracy.

I would encourage us to stand our ground and defend our democracy by continually posting the truth.

Politics" DAKUKU, A Political Stooge" by BakaSumtin(op): 9:36pm On Jan 04, 2016
By John Kpoobari Diidi

" DAKUKU, A Political stooge"

"A stooge is a person who serves merely to support or assist others, particularly in doing unpleasant work". - Google

In Rivers state, the word stooge can be seen in a man called Dakuku Peterside. A man who never had the vision and passion to be Rivers governor. His ambition was to run for a second tenure at the House of Representatives, until a Rotimi Amaechi a man who after depleting the treasury of Rivers people, and leaving them in a comatose state thought of a Plan, were he would continue taking the collective wealth of the Rivers people.

The plan as schemed by Amaechi needed a figure, a figure who would just be like a servant willing to do the bidding of his master. It should be noted that Prior to the selection of Dakuku, Magnus Abe a serving Senator then was the bookmakers bet to be the Governorship candidate of the APC. Magnus Abe lost out because Rotimi Amaechi knew he was not the man for the stooge Job hence the opting for Dakuku.

Considering the recent past and how mismanaged Rivers state was, Rivers people should be aware that Dakuku as a governor would just be an extension of that mismanagement.

Rivers state needs a Man who has a vision and passion and not a stooge who would serve as a conduit for his Master.
Dakuku Peterside needs to Reevaluate himself and ask the honest question, who am I? before coming out to be governor.

Politics(see Photos) Governor Wike Swears In First Female Chief Judge Of Rivers State by BakaSumtin(op): 9:13pm On Jan 04, 2016
GOVERNOR WIKE SWEARS IN FIRST FEMALE CHIEF JUDGE OF RIVERS STATE

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that the swearing-in of the substantive Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha, is a victory for the rule of law and the respect for the rules of succession as outlined by the National Judicial Council, NJC.

Justice Okocha is the First Female Chief Judge of Rivers State. She has been the state Acting Chief Judge since June 1, 2015.

Performing the swearing-in of Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha as the Chief Judge of Rivers State on Monday at the Government House, Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said that the state government acted in line with the recommendation of the National Judicial Council, NJC, which was confirmed by the Court of Appeal on December 23, 2015.

He said that with the recent development, it is clear that governors cannot willfully disrespect the recommendation of the NJC as was the case with the Amaechi administration in the state.

According to him, allowing the judiciary to be subjected to the discretion of sitting governors would desecrate the independence of the Judiciary and lead to abuses that would negatively affect the dispensation of justice.

He said: "The system will collapse if we refuse to respect the judicial system of succession as laid out. My administration will never do anything that will threaten the rule of law. We will always uphold the customs and traditions of the Judiciary. We never break down the laid down procedure.

"We will never run contrary to our avowed commitment to respect the independence of the Judiciary at all times".

Governor Wike charged the new Chief Judge of Rivers State to always uphold the constitution and carry other members of the bench along in the decision making process.

The NJC recommended the appointment of Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha as Chief Judge of Rivers State on 22ndJuly, 2013, while the Court of Appeal on December 23, 2015 set aside a Federal High Court judgment which had initially ruled that the state governor is not bound to comply with the recommendation of the NJC.

In her remarks after being sworn in, the new Rivers State Chief Judge, Justice Daisy Wotube Okocha thanked God for making her elevation possible after two years of uncertainty.

Justice Okocha said: "This is a solemn moment for me. The NJC recommendation of 22ndJuly, 2013 came to manifestation on Monday, 4thJanuary, 2016. God has glorified himself in my elevation as Chief Judge.

"Man can try, but only God’s counsel will prevail."

She commended Governor Wike for giving the Judiciary the required independence to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.

PDP WILL CONTINUE TO WIN ALL ELECTIONS IN RIVERS STATE ~ NYESOM WIKE.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has declared that if elections are conducted ten times in the state, candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will still emerge victorious because of the commitment of the party to the wellbeing of the people.

He further declared that the people are waiting for the total deployment of card readers, saying that the defeated APC in Rivers State will not win any unit because the APC and her sponsors have since betrayed the people.

Addressing a cross section of Rivers people at the state's New Year Banquet in Government House, Port Harcourt on Friday night, Governor Wike said: "If elections are conducted ten times in Rivers State, PDP will win.

"We are waiting for the card reader, but let me see which unit they (APC) will win".

Governor Wike charged the people of Rivers State to always respect the judiciary irrespective of judgments, noting that the stability of the country depends on the judiciary.

According to him, his administration has respected the full separation of powers, which has led to the independence of the Judiciary and the Legislative Arms of Government.

He expressed happiness that he lived up to his promise to revive the Judiciary after immediate past governor Amaechi closed the courts for two years, pointing out that Amaechi was the first person to take advantage of the revived Judiciary by rushing to court over the Judicial Commission of Inquiry.

The governor added that never again will the State House of Assembly be subjected to sitting in Government House under the guidance of the governor as was the case before he took over.

He said: "You don't need to control any arm of government. What you need is mutual cooperation to develop the state".

He outlined the achievements of his administration in terms of road infrastructure, schools development, empowerment programmes and health and agricultural schemes, saying that 2016 would witness more development projects in all sectors in line with the New Rivers vision.

He said that his administration was able to make landmark achievements in seven months because of the support and prayers of a vast majority of Rivers people. He declared that he will never be distracted, noting that his commitment to serve Rivers State is total irrespective of any outcome.

The Rivers State Governor said his administration took bank loans to finance projects ,not for politicking as rumored and falsely reported in the media.

“ If I take a loan, I would use it to the benefit of the Rivers people. I will not use it to play politics. “ Governor Wike said.

Governor Wike said his administration is interested in completing abandoned infrastructural projects, provided they impact positively on lives of the people.

He explained that though his administration had paid N 1 .5 b for the foreign scholarships, it could not continue to fund it because the previous government of Rotimi Amaechi had incurred a debt of N3.5 b for 2013 – 2014 and the 2014 -2015 sessions. He stated that the decision was taken in the overall interest of the state in view of dwindling finances.

Earlier, State Head of Service, Mr Rufus Godwins stated that the people of the state are solidly in support of Governor Wike because of his commitment to development of Rivers State and his superlative achievements.

Former Minister of Sports, Dr Tammy Danagogo said that Governor Wike has lived up to the expectations of the people through his people focused programmes and projects.

The New Year Banquet, the first under Governor Wike's administration attracted former governors, state and Federal Legislators, National and State party officials and critical stakeholders of Rivers State.

TECHNICAL KNOCKOUT

When a party is in opposition, it opposes. That's its job. But when it comes to power, it must govern. Easy rhetoric is over, the press of reality becomes irresistible. By necessity, it adopts some of the policies it had once denounced. And a new national consensus is born.

Ideas matter. Legislative proposals matter. Slick campaigns and dazzling speeches can work for a while, but the magic always wears off.

[Boko Haram] is a formidable enemy. To dismiss it as a bunch of 'cowards' perpetuating 'senseless acts of violence' is complacent nonsense. People willing to kill thousands of innocents while they kill themselves are not cowards. They are deadly vicious warriors and need to be treated as such.

Alhaji Tanko Yakassai on President Mohammadu Buhari

After seven months in office do you believe President Buhari is finding it difficult to settle and why?

"Buhari has not been in office for seven months but rather for 13 years. Irrespective of the fact that the election was held in March and he was sworn into the office in May, Buhari has desired the presidential office since 2003 and so he has been in office for 13 years.

This is because it is not when a person assumes the mantle of leadership that that person begins to prepare himself or herself to rule but rather the day he desired to attain that position."

"If a nurse simply because she watches doctors operate on their patients decides one day to perform procedures on a patient, the outcome would be very disastrous. So ,Buhari did not start to work from the day he was elected but rather from the day he made up his mind to contest for office."

Justice Ahmed Mohammed would go down in history as the first Judge to openly speak up and take an action against the budding dictatorship in Nigeria.

PoliticsAssassination Attempt In Rivers State. by BakaSumtin(op): 9:40am On Dec 23, 2015
WHO WANTS JERRY NEEDAM DEAD?

Rivers people were yesterday awakened to the shocking news of an assassination attempt on life of Mr Jerry Needam the Special Adviser media to the Rivers State PDP Chairman.
More shocking is the fact that this attempt is the third organized plot on the life of Mr Needam.

The latest assassination attempt occurred at his residence in Port Harcourt, during which scores of armed men engaged policemen who responded to his distress call in a fierce gun battle. By the time the smoke from the guns of the murderers settled, the body of three Nigerian policemen were left lifeless while several others were severely injured.
His compound, rooms and vehicles were also riddled with bullets.

Rivers people do not need a soothsayer to tell us that the evil scheme to kill Jerry Needam is coming from the pocket of his political opponents and political groups that are not comfortable with free speech. They desperately want him silenced because of his strong political views and his penchant for speaking the truth.

I would like to echo the opinion of many Rivers people by calling on the political leadership of the APC and every other political leader to carefully comb their houses and produce the evil men that have killed our policemen. While the laws and other institutions can be manipulated with “Federal might’’, Rivers people cannot be manipulated and would not be in a hurry to forget if anything untoward happens to Jerry Needam. They should also bear in mind that the Ogoni people have a very loooong memory.

I would like to call on all lovers of truth to remain firm and focused at this time in the life of our state. The political awareness in Rivers State is high and Rivers people cannot be cowed or muzzled politically.

We would NEVER NEVER be subjugated through the wickedness of an insignificant minority.

GOVERNOR WIKE’S WARNING TO ELECTION RIGGERS: A STATEMENT IN DEFENCE OF RIVERS STATE

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike’s statement declaring that any INEC Officer who plots to rig the forthcoming National Assembly re-run elections in the state does so at his/her own risk is a statement hinged on his commitment to the rule of law and the development of the state, Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor on Electronic Media has explained.
In a statement on Saturday, Simeon Nwakaudu stated that all well-meaning Nigerians have commended the governor for rising in defence of the resources and mandate of the people of Rivers State.

He said those uncomfortable with the position of the governor to stop electoral fraudsters are mainly politicians neck-deep in electoral fraud and mischief.

According to him: "It is a statement based on the reality that the people of Rivers State at all times will protect their votes and mandate irrespective of any attempt to use security forces to manipulate the process.

"It is a statement hinged on the fact that Rivers is a PDP state and nobody, no matter how mischievously cunning would be allowed to use security forces to compromise the electoral process.
"Those who are edgy about his statement of fact should hide their heads in shame for plotting to connive with criminal elements to subvert the collective will and mandate of Rivers people ".

Mr Nwakaudu added: "It is important to reiterate that Rivers State is PDP and the party enjoys unprecedented following as a result of Governor Wike’s superlative performance.

"Nobody should test the resolve of the people to protect their mandate. In Rivers State rigging is not an option because the people have made their choice to always support the PDP and Governor Wike "

NULLIFICATION OF MY ELECTION A TEMPORARY SETBACK SAYS GOVERNOR WIKE

*Declares that Rivers State is PDP.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has described the nullification of his election as a temporary setback, saying that God’s will and the mandate of the people will prevail at the end of the day.
Addressing thousands of Rivers State people who thronged the Port Harcourt International Airport to receive him on Thursday, Governor Wike urged the people to remain peaceful as the state remains PDP despite the contrived situation at present.

He assured the people that his lawyers have already started the process of Appeal to the Supreme Court, noting that after the Supreme Court, the PDP will work with whatever judgment emanates from the apex court.

The governor said the PDP is ready for the National Assembly elections as ordered by the Appeal Court, but warned that the people will resist any attempt by the Federal Government to use soldiers and policemen to manipulate the elections.

He said: "I want to warn, let nobody attempt to do what happened in Bayelsa State here. Since they said they have annulled the elections, let them come and conduct fresh elections. Let nobody think that they can use soldiers and policemen to intimidate us. We will resist any such attempt. We have maintained our cool for a long time. Our calmness should not be mistaken as a sign of weakness".
The governor stated that Rivers people are peace loving, but they hate injustice and intimidation. He advised all PDP members in the state to commence unit to unit and ward to ward campaigns for the National Assembly elections.

"We shall return all our National Assembly members as a way to disgrace those who think they will snatch the mandate of the people", he said.

He said that the administration will continue to work for the people of the state and deliver good governance and projects to the people.

Governor Wike was welcomed by the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, members of the State Executive Council, former National Assembly members, PDP leaders, Local Government Caretaker Chairmen, women and youth groups.
