By Nsikak Ekpenyong Abuja The leadership of the Real Estate Developer's Association of Nigeria (REDAN) on Monday denied ever had an interfaced with Mr. Magaji Tambuwal, the Clerk of the National Assembly as allegedly published by Premium Times. In a press statement personally signed by the President of REDAN, Dr. Aliyu Oroji Wamakko said it is apt to state that REDAN proposed the Bill to the 9th Assembly to strengthen the Business of Real Estate Development in Nigeria, at no time did the leadership of the Association interfaced with Mr. Magaji Tambuwal, the Clerk of the National Assembly. And also, the Association did not interfere with the proceedings of the Bill at any of the Chambers of the National Assembly, Dr. Wammako said. The statement reads, "Mr Kabir of the Premium Times posited that Mr. West Idahosa SAN in a letter to the Attorney General of the Federation ‘advised the President not to sign the “unlawful Bill under any guise whatsoever (including the plot to back-date the signing as widely rumoured by members of REDAN who are the proponent of the Bill). We therefore call on Mr. Kabir to mention those Members. Most deserving from Mr Kabir is for him to tell Nigerians, those REDAN Members that “lobbied Mr Tambuwal to send the false bill to the President for assent”. Failure to provide names will prompt the Association to seek redress from the Court for this infamous statement. Opposition to Regulating the Business of Real Estate in Nigeria "From the publication of the Premium Times, it can be inferred that some persons do not want the Bill assented to. It is bold to say that the only plausible reason for such abhorrence is that they are neck deep in money laundering business and financing of terrorism. They are obviously economic saboteurs who want to tarnish the image of Nigeria. To the current leadership of REDAN, if the business is regulated, the law enforcement agents and regulators will catch-up with them and they will not only be exposed but their businesses will crumble. "We state that REDAN is not averse to amendments, recommendations or inputs that could make the Bill better, to strengthen and deepen Real Estate Development as in other climes. Finally, the composition of the Council as proposed include: regulatory organizations, Members of the Council of seven Professional Bodies in the Built Industry, Commissioner for Lands / Housing and Urban Development of each State of the Federation, amongst others. "We once again state categorically that REDAN is not in a position to influence a constituted tier of government – the Legislature. The National Assembly is an independent entity and an arm of Government, established by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. "REDAN leadership hereby reiterate our call to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to assent to the Bill for the interest of Nigeria’s economy as the RECON Bill stands to cure the inherited problems of collapse building, money laundering and terrorism financing prevalent in the real estate and construction industry, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda. "The National Executive Council of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN), has deemed it necessary to clear the air on the publication by the Premium Times on November 19, 2023 by Kabir Yusuf captioned “How National Assembly Clerk misinformed Tinubu, almost got President to sign unapproved law”. Establishment of REDAN "The Real Estate developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) being the umbrella body of the organized real estate sector (private and public) duly recognized by the Federal government in the National Housing Policy as approved by the Federal Executive Council was established in 2002. It’s mandate is to provide affordable housing for Nigerians. "REDAN & the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill Given the need to regulate and sanitize the Business of Real Estate Development in Nigeria as is prevalent in other climes, the leadership of REDAN in 2013 discussed the need for the sector to be regulated. Based on this, in 2017, REDAN deliberated on the need to have the Business of Real Estate Regulated. "While discussion was ongoing, the 8th Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria invited REDAN for a One-Day Public hearing on the “Proposed Bill for the Regulation and Development of Real Estate as Sponsored by Senator Peter Nwaoboshi (Delta State). At the hearing, the 5th Leadership of REDAN led by Surv. Rev. Ugochkwu Chime supported the Bill. Unfortunately, the Bill was not passed before the expiration of the 8th Assembly. "The Leadership of the 6th REDAN EXCO led by Alh. Dr Aliyu Oroji Wamakko resolved to pursue the Bill and sent a propose Bill to both Chambers of the National Assembly on July 16, 2020. The 9th Senate of the Nigeria’s National Assembly on Wednesday November 17, 2021 passed the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill. A week later, the Senate President sent the Bill to the House of Representatives for Concurrence. The House of Representative read the Bill on the floor of the House on December 2, 2021 and was eventually passed on May 31, 2023 after due legislative processes." Dr. Wammako however give the premium times seven days to retract or provide evidence as alleged in their publication, hence the REDAN Will not hesitate to approach the court.

... _Says, Action will ensure compliance with the FCT Master Plan. _ By Nsikak Ekpenyong Abuja The Real Estate Developer's Association of Nigeria (REDAN) on Wednesday commended the Honourable Minister for Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike for his bold decision to set up a Task Force to facilitate the Issuance of Certificate of Occupancy in the FCT. In a Statement signed personally by the President of REDAN, Dr Aliyu Oroji Wamakko and made available to journalists in Abuja said the minister action will give economic value to Home Owners in the Mass Housing Estates in the FCT. "REDAN is excited with the Minister for inaugurating the Task Force with clear mandate and timeline for the actualization of the directive. This action is in sync with our calls to the Ministry before he assumed leadership. "We are also attuned to the Hon. Minister’s directives which charged the Task Force to ensure that allottees who have contravened land use in the FCT, pay penalties to serve as deterrence. "This decision is applauded because it is more humane and a clear departure from decisions which results to economic waste by demolition of such buildings. Dr. Wammako who is also the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Jedo investment company limited said the approach will ensure compliance with the FCT Master Plan. "Crucial to the clear directive of the Minister is that the Task Force should make provisions for land allottees in the Area Councils who do not have certificates of occupancy for their plots to enable them to get the land documents. His Excellency’s directive in this regard will give economic life and development in the Area Councils. " Fundamentally, it will sanitize land matters, and enhance accelerated housing and real estate development. We acknowledge the promise of the Chairman of the Task Force ESV Michael O. Chinda to do the needful in a record time of One Month. "While noting the above, the leadership of the Association wishes to assure the Hon. Minister and the Task Force of our Members commitment and cooperation to ensure that the assignment is carried out seamlessly. Accordingly, we shall make ourselves available to provide relevant information and assistance. Paramount amongst our concern in the FCT is adherence to maintaining the Abuja Master Plan as designed and may be reviewed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration."

AMML CRISIS AND FLYING COURT ORDERS: IS WIKE ACTUALLY IN CONTEMPT? By Adekola Omoluabi with additional reports from Bamidele Akinol a Ogundana The controversy bugging the FCTA-owned company, Abuja markets management Limited [AMML] has continued unabated, culminating in the shutdown of its corporate Head office at Gudu District, Abuja on Friday 10th November, 2023. A detachment of the Nigeria Police Force reportedly sealed up the Adisa Plaza Office of the Market Managers early morning on Friday, allegedly under the directives of the Hon. Minister FCT, Barr. Nyesom Wike. Wike was said to have directed one Abubakar Usman Faruk to vacate the office of the Managing Director, AMML and stop parading himself as the MD/CEO of the company having been effectively relieved of that duty since July 17, 2023 by the shareholders of AMML. Faruk obviously refused to heed the Hon. Minister’s advice, hence the police action, which was based on security reports alleging that Faruk posted private security guards heavily armed in the Head office in a bid to resist any attempt to ward him off. It would be recalled also, that the FCT minister had late September 2023, announced the removal of 21 heads of departments, Agencies and Government-owned Companies including that of Abuja Markets Management Limited. Out of all, only Abubakar Faruk reportedly refused to hand over to the most senior office in the establishment as directed by the minister. He had claimed that there was an order of court restraining the Minister or anyone else from removing him as the Managing Director. In a news report in the Daily Post of November 8, 2023, it was alleged that the National Industrial Court in Abuja on Wednesday “began contempt proceedings” against the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike and others over the alleged disregard of a series of court orders. This development, it was reported,’ was sequel to the decision of the Minister to include the Managing Director Abuja Markets Management Limited (AMML), in the list of heads of agencies dissolved on September 27’. Speaking on the reported “contempt proceedings”, the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser, Abuja Markets Management Limited Mr. Onya Nsor Ojiji in a statement said that the contempt proceeding could only exist in the imagination of its authors. Mr. Ojiji stated " categorically that there is no such contempt procedding against the FCT Minister or any other AICL/AMML staff at the National Industrial Court as the suit referred to in the publication has been assigned to another Judge and will start afresh(de novo)". The embattled former MD is therefore expected to either give the lie to the Company Secretary's claim by pushing through the contempt proceeding to its logical conclusion, or save the FCT Administration and the Abuja Market Community further embarrassment. Before the alleged “contempt proceedings”, Abubakar Faruk, having “sacked” all AMML staff opposed to his continued stay, had approached a Chief Magistrate court to among others give an order declaring their operations as AMML staff unlawful. Interestingly, the Wuse Magistrate Court presided over by His Worship Huzaifa Maccido on November 2, 2023 dismissed the case. In dismissing the case, the Court seemed to have affirmed that Mr. Abubakar Faruk has been properly relieved of his duties as the MD/CEO of AMML. Part of the ruling reads thus: “the purported letter of dismissal attached by the Complainant/ Respondent as EXHIBIT AMML A is dated 31st Day of July, 2023 while the signatory to the letter who is one Abubakar Usman Faruk sacked by the owners of the Complainant vide EXHIBIT 4 attached by the Defendants/Objectors. The said EXHIBIT 4 is dated 17th July, 2023. I agree that as at the time the 4th defendant was purportedly sacked, Mr. Abubakar Usman Faruk had no power to do so having being sacked on 17/7, 2023”, the ruling continued. It would be recalled that Abubakar Usman Faruk was appointed the MD/CEO of Abuja Markets Management Limited in April 2009. He was redeployed following allegations of involvement in the scandalous informal market project in Area 10(UTC) transit way, the allegations bordered on lack of approval for the development on a rail transit way and illegal sale of the stalls by the former MD. Though on redeployment away from AMML, Faruk reportedly drew his full salaries and allowances from AMML as Managing Director including upfront allowances up until July 2023 when he was reportedly fired by the Company’s shareholders. Appointed by the then Minister, Adamu Aliero, Faruk had gone to court 14 years after to challenge the power of a Minister to redeploy him, citing the provisions of Company and Allied Matters ACT, 2020. The Federal High Court, Abuja had ruled that the redeployment was not done in line with CAMA provisions thereby pronouncing him as both the MD/CEO as well as a Director. Armed with this order but without due process, Faruk had reportedly embarked on self-help to take over the office of the MD/CEO of AMML and had continued to use same to keep himself on the seat until this recent seal up. Not minding his base approach, the Company owners ensured that Faruk was duly and effectively relieved of his job when the shareholders in an extraordinary General Meeting July 17,2023 fired him for “services no longer required”. This he still challenged, making stakeholders wonder if Faruk is a shareholder in AMML. If he is not, can he impose himself on his employers? they ask. A search at CAC reveals that Faruk is NOT a shareholder of AMML and cannot remain the Managing Director having been removed by the shareholders. His position as MD/CEO is one of employment as a staff of the company subject to its conditions of service, which allow him to be removed anytime his services are no longer required. The legal position and trite law is that no Court can impose an employee on an unwilling employer. Keen observers are of the view that instead of being grateful for an uncommon opportunity, the very long stay apparently had a negative impact of entitlement on Mr. Faruk. It can’t be said that Faruk has been fair to the FCT Administration and Company that gave him an uncommon opportunity of close to 15 years tenure. His last days can only be said to be hurting to the FCT. He only succeeded in building strife and giving bad publicity to a hitherto relatively unknown Government- owned Company, whilst obstructing work flow. It is however believed among close watchers that Faruk’s rare luck as the longest serving FCT appointee may turn to a misfortune should the administration decide to probe his years as the Chief Executive of the Market Management Company.

A coalition of NGOs led by Initiative for Leadership and Economic Watch in Nigeria has raised an alarm over the activities of NCL President, Ajaero as it poses a grave threat to democracy in Nigeria. Addressing a crowded press conference in Abuja today, the coalition of society groups led by Ambassador Splendour Agbonkpolor called for the overhauling of the leadership of the NLC to purge the union of 'questionable elements who are trying to bring the labour union into disrepute by being politically induced to cause crisis during the forthcoming election. The also called for the suspension of Ajaero and that he should be investigated by the Police, DSS and other security agencies. According to the coalition of NGOs, "Following the series of ugly political events, lawlessness in Imo State as result of the poorly stage managed NLC protest by the Comrade Ajaero, have necessitated us to address this world press conference in order to set the records straight. They also claimed that "events of the last one week that nearly snowballed into a breakdown of law and order in Imo State, is very disturbing and worrisome. Recall that on the 2nd of November 2023, the partisan labour leader Comrade Ajaero went on a berserk expedition, calling out law abiding Imo Workers for a wild protest to invoke a security breach, which means that Ajearo has missed the track and is taking the laws into his hands and as such should be tamed not to further cause pandemonium in Imo state during the election." According to the group, 'let it be on record that Comrade Ajaero led NLC have now become a political arm of the Labor Party ready to blackmail, arm-twist and rain puerile machinations to disrupt the forthcoming democratic election in Imo State, Ajearo has no right to stop the good people of Imo State from exercising their franchise, which is their inalienable right under democratic governance'. They also noted that Ajaero in connivance with his shenanigans are ready to dance the macabre dance, their stock in trade is to blackmail the government and score cheap political points. It is based on this that they argued that it is high time the union suspended Ajaero in order to 'restore the confidence of ordinary Nigerians who see labour unionism as a struggle for the enforcement of workers’ rights and entitlement.'

_...You cried, begged when Akerele resigned on moral high ground. ... Says, EFCC, ICPC Await you in your MOU's Dealings _ By Nsikak Ekpenyong, Abuja A group known as concern Edolites on Monday challenged Edo state Governor, Godwin Obaseki to come out clean on his former Chief of Staff, Chief Taiwo Akerele instead of hiding under unknown name to respond to Akerele’s calls for accountability on his administration for the past seven years. In a press statement signed by Dr. Nosa Imafidon, the group asked Governor Godwin Obaseki why the delay in arresting his former aide if actually he was corrupt as alleged by the faceless Obaseki stooge and praise singer three years plus after leaving government. Dr. Imafidon further asked Governor Godwin Obaseki to tell Nigerians, if as his faceless writer alleges, why has the government not prosecuted this young man three years after his exit from government with all the so called phantom documentary evidence available to the state and with the humongous prosecutorial powers vested in the state. It’s a shame indeed. The group further asked Obaseki to provide answers to questions the ex COS posed. ‘if Taiwo Akerele, who is now a top consultant/advisor at a world bank assisted project in West Africa region was allegedly corrupt, who are his collaborators in government for instance who approved the monies for him? Do we have names of Civil servants or other top government officials involved in the corrupt act within the Obaseki led government? How much is involved? Are they ready to give evidence in court? Why was he allowed to serve for three meritorious years in office without any recorded or documented query of breach of any law against him? "Do we have audit reports signed by the Auditor - General indicting his person? Do we have any state government petition to EFCC and ICPC over Mr Akerele till date? The group recalled that Mr Akerele also meritoriously and famously managed two World Bank projects in Edo state for 6 years before becoming COS, do we have any reports from the World bank indicting him for any infractions? If any can the state government share such with the public? ‘if Akerele was corrupt as alleged, why did Obaseki send several emissaries to go and appeal to him to change his mind about his decision including the former CSO government house, former aides to Obaseki, top Special Advisers, former Commissioner for Youths and former Special Adviser on Public order and security? What was the current NLC chairman Comrade Olaiye and others doing in Akerele's residence in GRA on the night of his resignation? Who sent them to beg Mr Akerele to change his mind? Akerele’s house was a beehive of activities on the day of his exit from government as he didn’t run away from his house. "What Obaseki and his crew of hired weaklings have simply demonstrated is pure vindictiveness, after - thought and inability to come to terms with the reality of the moral high ground upon which Mr Akerele left the government." Dr. Imafidon stressed that Obaseki doomed days are near and he can’t escape the wrath of Edo people. While waiting for answers on these issues, the people of Edo state are still waiting for the outgoing governor to prosecute Senator Adams Oshiomhole over the Benin Specialist Hospital, Prince Clem Agba over the Water Storm and now Taiwo Akerele over the after-thought corruption allegations against him. Since it appears that the Obaseki’s government’s only excuse for non- performance is to accuse 3rd parties of corruption. In the meantime, the group insisted that they are ready to give Edo people and Nigerians more revelations on how the governor has ran the state on fake MOU's. The long arm of the law is waiting.

For billionaire Aliko Dangote, these are not the best of times. Recall that the President set up a team led by former FRCN boss, Jim Obazee to look into the books of CBN and other organizations. The Obazee Committee was said to have submitted its interim report to the President some weeks ago and since then, things have not been the same with the head of the Dangote conglomerate. Villa sources confirmed that he had attempted to see the President about two weeks ago but waited for seven hours and was only able to see the President for between ten to fifteen minutes. The meeting did not yield the desired result. Insiders revealed that Obazee findings indicted Dangote for collecting 3.4Billion dollars from Emefiele-led CBN and what he paid back was 1.9billion dollars in Naira value leaving an outstanding 1.5billion dollars which he didn't pay the naira equivalent. The President is said to have insisted that the 1.5billion dollars must be paid back. Moreover President is said to be miffed that a Nigerian could collect so much money in hard currency and didn't pay the Naira equivalent to the coffers of the government. Since the first encounter did not yield any fruitful result, Dangote was said to have attempted to see the President again, but was not successful. Villa sources revealed that he waited in vain and as he couldn't see him in the office, he tried to ambush him during the Friday prayers at the Villa mosque where the President had gone for prayers but could only exchange greetings with Tinubu and had to leave after all efforts failed. According to our source, the President has really been avoiding him because of the implications of compromising the Obazee findings. Confused and really disturbed, Dangote is said to have reached out to prominent Northern emirs to intercede on his behalf with the President so that he could be given a soft landing. DANGOTE has never hidden his relationship with Emefiele while the latter presided over the CBN. At a point during the official commissioning of his refinery in Lagos, he told everyone present, including the then President that the refinery would not be standing but for Emefiele's support.

From Nsikak Ekpenyong Abuja. The Iyaloja General of the federation and national leader of Nigerian traders, Chief Dr, Mujidat Folashade Tinubu-Ojo has called on wealthy private developers to invest more in the development of markets in Abuja to absorb petty, roadside traders who have been served eviction notices by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA) and the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC). Chief' Folashade, who spoke with newsmen in Abuja shortly after laying the foundation stone for the construction of the New Apo Auto Parts/Mechanic Complex on Tuesday regretted that traders have to live daily with the acute shortage and high cost of shops pointing out that those who sell beside the roadsides do not have something better and would willingly relocate when provided good options. The Iyaloja commended the construction of the Apo complex stating that it will help decongest the roads and provide relief for traders who will be evicted from the road sides but she appealed that the cost of the shops should be made affordable to traders. The Chairman of the occasion, Chief Kinsley Okwudili (Ajiegbe) in his opening remark also prayed that the market should provide permanent relief to thousands of traders who will be evicted from their roadside makeshift shops. He expressed delight that a private developer, Nurembeger Group which specialises in real estate and construction has taken up the challenge of providing alternative shops for hundreds of traders who will be affected by the eviction order. "On this occasion of the ground breaking ceremony of Nurnberger Auto-parts/ Mechanic complex, we have cause to be grateful to God. We are even more grateful to God for letting our brother see the opportunity to assist the government in providing succour to traders at the Apo mechanic village, whose businesses and means of livelihood are on the verge of being displaced by the planned road construction of the government," he said. The Executive Director of Nurnberger Group, Dr Anthony Chike Ezekwugo stated that the Auto-parts/Mechanic complex would be "a unique and phenomenal project and when completed, will be first of a kind in Nigeria in many ways. For one, the complex will be the first off grid market in Nigeria. The structure will be made up of over one thousand, three Hundred (1,300) lockup shops, over 60 warehouses, a medical clinic, police station and fire service station to service the market. "It also has two units of banking buildings, places of worship and a shopping mall of over 40 commercial spaces, to service the basic and social needs of the people in the market and its environs." He promised that once construction commences in earnest, the facility will gainfully engage over 1,000 Nigerian youths for the construction phase and get them off the streets. Dr. Ezekwugu emphasized that the project will provide a viable alternative for the Apo traders when completed and also attract rapid development around the locality. He thanked Chief Dr. Mujidat Folasade Tinubu- Ojo (The Iyaloja General) for her continuous support and show of solidarity by coming personally to Abuja to lay the foundation stone the project which he promised would be completed within 48 months. In a brief interview with our correspondent, Dr. Ezekwugo said the project will cost more than N9 billion with funding to be sourced locally even as he reiterated that the market will be ready for use in 48 months, he also at the event donated one Hilux patrol pickup to Apo Division of police force for effective security in the territory,he said.

It was a day Angola shone in Abuja. Nigerians from all walks of life gathered at Transcorp Hilton to witness the inauguration of Angola-Nigeria business Council as well as presentations by top Angolan government functionaries about what the country have to offer Nigerian business community. It was obvious, the chief convener of the event, Angolan Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Jose Bamoquina Zau meant business. Apart from top Angolan government functionaries who came, as well as those who participated through zoom, many leading businessmen and women from his country were also around. He also ensured that their Nigerian counterparts were there. Bankers, venture capitalists, air and road transporters, foremost industrialists were all represented. Peak of the pack was Africa’s foremost philanthropist, Abdul Samad Rabiu who was represented by one of his Executive Directors as well as Dr Idi Hong. Apart from the long speech by the Angolan Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities, Domingos Lopes, which provided insight into why the crowd gathered as well as business opportunities in Angola every speaker at the memorable gathering was brief. They stressed the fact that African countries have to, in the words of BUA boss, ‘come together to build relationships, stop exporting raw materials and importing finished products, create jobs for their teeming population. FORMER Senate President, Bukola Saraki inaugurated the Angolan Nigerian business Council with billionaire Architect Fifi Ejindu as President, with members drawn from both countries. Saraki who is the Patron of the newly inaugurated Council enjoined the members to strive to ensure that trade and cooperation between both countries grow to the benefit of all. The Nigerian Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the administration of President Bola Tinubu will continue to strengthen both mutual ties, through a deliberate pursuit of productive bilateral relations. Idris explained, “President Bola Tinubu is desirous to deepen the relationship between Nigeria and other African countries, including Angola. Among other things, we are working on signing a Memorandum of Understanding on Public Communication and Media Exchange with the Embassy of Angola in Nigeria, as part of efforts to deepen our relationship. “Nigeria is very much keen to support Angola’s domestic and foreign aspirations and the country’s overall development, and we expect reciprocity in this regard. Architect Fifi Ejindu, elated to be appointed as the President of the Business Council promised to ensure that the two countries truly benefited from the business acumen of the gurus that make up the body. Fear grips NNPC as Dangote Struggles to get approval to operate uncompleted refinery …safety concerns mount. The Dangote Refinery, a significant undertaking in Nigeria, is enmeshed in new controversy. This time, there is tension between the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and owner of the Dangote Group, which has sparked concerns over the safety, quality, and ethics surrounding the refinery. Inside sources have informed us that Alhaji Aliko Dangote has applied for a license to operate, which is the last step of approval before any refinery can start any form of production but NNPC, the regulatory body has hesitated to provide this license due to safety concerns, because the refinery remains uncompleted. He also approached the NNPC to purchase crude but the NNPC declined saying they cannot sell crude to a refinery that is uncompleted. It is now alleged that Dangote is trying to source Nigeria’s crude through trading houses which he would then import into Nigeria – a move that might be seen as ‘going through the backdoor.’ But even if he gets the crude, there are safety and quality concerns voiced by employees of Dangote, contractors, and some officials at NNPC. Without the completion of the refinery, there are concerns that the quality of jet fuel and diesel produced would be subpar. NNPC is anxious because substandard jet fuel and diesel could endanger lives. The refinery, as it stands, can only carry out the first phase of crude distillation which is similar to what illegal refineries operating in the Niger Delta region have been found to do. However, due to the complex nature of the Dangote Refinery, whose catalytic cracking unit is still uncompleted, the quality of the refined products is in question. It is alleged that some staff within the Dangote Group have voiced their apprehensions regarding the move to start the refinery without its completion. Despite these valid concerns, Dangote’s response suggests a desperate need for the venture to work, potentially as a ‘matter of survival.’ Financial Strain biting hard? Dangote is reported to be mired in significant debt, pushing the company to the brink of receivership if they don’t secure additional funds to repay certain loans by December. This financial pressure may explain why Dangote is so eager to secure a license to start operations, even with the refinery not being fully complete. You will recall that earlier this year, the uncompleted refinery was hurriedly commissioned by the former President Buhari in order for Dangote to access additional equity funding from the Nigerian Government as well as a crude allocation of 300,000barrels per day which insiders say would have been sold to raise cash for creditors and partly fund the completion of the refinery. This crude allocation was however put to a hold when the new Government of President Tinubu was sworn in, and it was discovered that the refinery was far from being complete but was falsely commissioned in order to take the crude allocation and sell outside the country. The standoff between Dangote and the NNPC underscores a broader issue of safety, quality, and financial security that have bedevilled the Dangote refinery project. With concerns over substandard products potentially jeopardizing lives of workers at the uncompleted refinery and nigerians in general, and a major business figure risking immense financial losses, the resolution of this impasse will have far-reaching implications for Nigeria’s oil industry.

By Nsikak Ekpenyong Abuja In line with the renewed Hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Coalition of Civil Society Group in Nigeria has hailed the transformation of Shelter Afrique into Shelter Afrique Development Bank. Addressing journalists in Abuja, the Executive Director Comrade Paul Samuel said the transformation promises to reshape the landscape of Africans housing and urban development. While commending Shelter Afrique Shareholders for approving the revised Statutes to elevate the pan-African housing and urban development finance into a dynamic Development Bank during the Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) in Algiers, Algeria, Comrade Samuel urged Shelter Afrique to live up to its expectations in Nigeria as the second largest contributor of fund to the institution. The group said the renaming of Shelter Afrique to Shelter Afrique Development Bank (ShafDB) reiterates a renewed sense of purpose, solidifying the finance status as a transformative and sustainable development bank solely dedicated to advancing urban housing and related infrastructural development across Africa. He however reminded Shelter Afrique that Nigeria is in housing deficit of over 40 percent of Africa total deficit that need an urgent action. "Shelter Afrique must know that Nigeria has a population of over 200 million people, so , their impact must be noticed seriously across our country. Significantly, our local population are located in the 774 local government Areas in Nigeria. "We seriously believe that Shelter Afrique should know that Nigeria urbanization is now overstressed and the urgent need to focus attention or concentrate on the rural areas. The downtrodden are mainly in rural areas, they need roof over their heads. The Nigeria population as I said earlier is over 200 million people. "The over 40 percent Housing deficit is as a result of banditry, flooding, kidnapping and other natural disasters. We seriously call on Shelter Afrique to immediately collaborate with the relevant body or institution in tackling the housing deficit in Nigeria. This is our demand. "We are not begging but we are demanding that Shelter Afrique must do the needful now that they have transformed from Shelter Afrique, Shelter Afrique Development Bank with a vision on Housing and Urban Development. "What is more interesting now that our Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa is the new chairman of SHAFDB, and while the chairman of the board of directors is also a Nigerian, Chii Akpoji. Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, presided over the deliberations as the Chair of the General Assembly Bureau. According to Comrade Samuel, who glad to read that Shelter Afrique Development Bank is a premier provider of financial, advisory, and research solutions, and that ShafDB focuses on addressing Africa’s housing crisis through financial institutions, project finance and public-private partnerships, striving to achieve sustainable developmental impact, adding that Nigerians are in total need of roof over their heads bearing in mind the country contribution to Shelter Afrique. He further recalled that the transformative effort, spearheaded by a reputable international law firm under the guidance of the Board of Directors, is the culmination of numerous bilateral and multilateral reviews, leading to a broad consensus among Shareholders on key amendments in the Company’s revised Statutes.

When a few days ago a social commentator raised the alarm over the unconventional ways BUA's competitors have been fighting him since he singlehandedly brought down price of cement, some didn't take it serious. Within the last forty eight hours or so, we have seen two major social media influencers set out to deliberately attack the BUA initiative. First was the write-up by Kemi Olunloyo who prides herself in giving illogical interpretations to facts even ordinary eyes can see. In her attempt to vilify BUA, she claimed there is a link between the increase in the price of Spaghetti and the reduction of cement by BUA. Adept as she claimed to be in investigative reporting, all she had to do was to Google and find out more about the biggest players in the spaghetti flour and sugar businesses and what are the price ranges now. She didn't stop there. To show that she was really dancing to the drumbeat of her paymasters, she went ahead to accuse BUA of bad business practices without any proof, evidence either correlating or non correlating facts. It is obvious Kemi Olunloyo does not know much about the NIGERIAN sugar, pasta and Flour sector. Two years ago, there was outcry from Dangote and others that BUA sugar factory should be closed down. They went as far as petitioning the Industry Minister, Adeniyi Adebayo. The reason behind the petition was that Dangote and other big players have a habit of increasing sugar price as Ramadan and Christmas approach. BUA was called to join but BUA refused. They felt uncomfortable and petitioned the Minister. Eventually the ministry intervened and allowed BUA to continue in business. BUA has never been at vanguard of increasing prices unjustifiably. Anyone who want to find out the price of BUA sugar can verify, it is still the cheapest in the market. The major producers of Flour and pasta in Nigeria are Flour Mills and Olla both companies owned by Indians and Greeks. BUA only comes third. It smirks of mischief therefore to say that a small player in the sector has increased his price. This, again points to the fact that someone somewhere is trying to whip up sentiments against BUA. Our findings reveal that the prices of BUA flour and pastries are also the cheapest in the market compared to the bigger players. To now say there is a correlation between a non-existing price increase in the sector and reduction of cement price shows that someone is trying to fool Nigerians. As if this unsubstantiated allegations were not enough, a few hours later it was Tunde EDNUT who posted a video disparaging the recent slash in the price of cement by BUA. In a video posted by Tunde Ednut on Instagram, a cement seller claimed that BUA does not have the capacity to meet the demand that its reduction in price generated. The retailer, who obviously looked like another hireling smiles to the camera as he explained that distributors still have to pay for diesel. Curiously the interviewer could not ask whether they were not transporting cement when the price was higher and why it is now that the issue of diesel is now a major clog in the BUA attempt to bring the price of cement down. Funnily in his calculation, the cost of diesel per litre was added to the cost of cement as if it is only one bag that the 1 litre diesel would be used in ferrying. Interviewing a retailer over issues relating to manufacturing and distribution of any product really betrayed the purpose of the interviewer. The cement seller spoke from two sides of the mouth. First he said the price reduction was on social media and that they haven't been notified (as if he expects a formal letter) only for him to say in the next statement that there are queues of distributors waiting to collect product at BUA factories. Ever since BUA Chairman announced the reduction in the price of cement, other manufacturers have been jittery. Rather than effecting the same reduction to allow Nigerians enjoy some form of relief, they have taken to the media to discredit the move. They not only claimed that BUA cannot sell at that price but also alluded to the unavailability of the product while they go behind to collude with distributors to rebag BUA cement and sell at higher cost. It is a known fact that Dangote rather than increase the price of cement decided to offer distributors who buy seven trucks one truck free. This is verifiable. Who benefits from the free truck given to distributors after they purchase seven? Will this even trickle to the commoner who buys cement? It is obvious that those who are against the price reduction are hell bent on giving wrong impression to the public. They have found willing tools among influencers who shine by dishing out half-truths. Those who are buying cement from the various factories know what is happening and it is only a matter of time the truth will come out.

Sola Onamodu Abdul Samad Rabiu, the Chairman of BUA Group has donated N2Billion to rebuild the iconic Zaria Central Mosque. The over 150-year-old Central Mosque located in Zaria, a part of Zazzau Emirate Council, Kaduna State collapsed on Friday, August 11, 2023, resulting in deaths and injuries for some worshipers. The BUA Group chairman made the donation on Saturday at the official ceremony of the reconstruction fund while urging other stakeholders to be part of the rebuilding of the historic central mosque by coming together as a united front fostering unity and progress. “In supporting this effort we are not on preserving something of historical significance but also investing in education and empowerment of people within the Zazzau emirate and other parts of Nigeria” the BUA Chairman who is getting widespread commendation for the reduction of the price of BUA Cement to N3500 stated at the ceremony. The price reduction is on the face of the general price of N5500. The BUA Chairman made the N2Billion donation on behalf of himself, his family, and ASR Africa Initiative – the foundation making high-impact interventions across the continent – as part of the process of “building a foundation for a better and brighter future”. The news about Air components wasted over 100 bandits on mass movement in Zamfara is not only delightful but also commendable. The coalition of Civil Society group for transparency and good governance uses this medium to commend the Department of Security Service with the prompt intelligence upon which other action agencies acted towards bringing these cowards down. While urging that this tempo be sustained through coordinated synergy amongst the security forces in Zamfara state, similar feats should be replicated throughout the northwestern states of Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and beyond in order to bring about lasting peace across the entire zone. We believe Security is everybody's business and therefore renewed the call for Citizens and the general public to provide the security agencies useful information promptly so that the recorded achievement could be sustained. Events in the cement sector in the last couple of weeks have been really worrisome. Ever since BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu disclosed that his products would be sold at 3,500 per bag, the other players in the industry have been jittery. First, the media was and is still agog with rhetorics over whether the price reduction was possible and feasible. Obviously, most of these did not come from outsiders in the industry but sponsored by industry leaders who feel threatened. Because these have not worked, stories of BUA Cement unavailability started circulating, also from the same sources. Meanwhile, investigations revealed that BUA Distributors in EDO, Sokoto and some other parts have been picking their supplies at 3,500 per bag. Indeed one of them, Mike Igwe, a distributor who spoke with us confirmed that ever since the price was reduced, he has been buying at that price and that those who claim that BUA is yet to effect the price change don't know what they are saying. According to him, 'the other manufacturers have reasons to be afraid. They are definitely going to lose out in the market'. Who will abandon where he's buying for 3,500 NAIRA per bag and go to Dangote where he will pay over 5,500 Naira? he further asked. Speaking further the Benin-based cement dealer suggested that road transportation, especially the bad roads occasioned by the rains could have been the reason why other parts of the country did not immediately enjoy what he and many other distributors around had been enjoying. However with the rains already going, other parts of the country, must have started receiving their supplies at the new price. He also figured that BUA must have jerked up production to meet the increased demand as more buyers are switching over. Other distributors we spoke with revealed that Dangote specifically has come under intense pressure since the price reduction by BUA and has been looking for ways to ensure that he does not lose customers. They confirmed that Dangote has been giving out one free truck for every seven trucks bought by distributors, all in a bid to ensure that he saves his face. But, according to builders we spoke with, this form of tokenism will not trickle to retailers and there is no way the consumers can feel it either. This is because if you give one truck to a distributor who bought seven trucks, he will prefer to sell rather than give away the cement. There is no doubt that Dangote and Lafarge's reaction to BUA's decision to cut the price of cement really betrayed their position vis a vis the current situation in the country. Nigerians need succor from all fronts. They need business leaders who can rise above money making interests and feel for the people. Both organizations have been jittery and have resorted to arm twisting BUA rather than taking concrete steps to try and maintain their share of the market. It is also worthy of note that sponsored analysts are springing up to make wild claims that the price cut is neither practicable nor sustainable. This, industry players know is coming from those who feel threatened by the BUA move. For Dangote, many distributors saw this opportunity as a major step towards moving away from the company's high handed practices. Those who spoke with us pointed to the fact that they cannot pay cash to him but only credit. According to them, Dangote will always hold on to their cash whenever price changes. He will hardly make refund if there's increase in price unless you pay the extra money added on top. This is unlike the practice with BUA where they supply you the goods with the old price even if there's price increase. And given the volatility of the market presently, with BUA Cement promising to reduce the price further when they hit the 17million Tons per annum target, no one will like to be caught off guard. Nigerians need to mount pressure on the other major cement manufacturers to join BUA in reducing the price of cement. The pressure created by the BUA move could be seen in the number of times Dangote has come out to deny any form of price increase. Meanwhile, rather than decreasing the price so that the masses can benefit, he has decided to gift distributors one truck each if and when they buy seven trucks. His intransigence and unwillingness will further make the market volatile, unpredictable and consumers may continue with this till first quarter of 2024 when BUA hits the 17million tons per Annum target and force all of them to drop prices to the 3,000 NAIRA per bag which Abdul Samad Rabiu promised Nigerians. The dilemma the other manufacturers face now is that prices are already coming down and this trend will continue as BUA cement gets supplied at the new price all over the country. It's only a matter of time.

Presidential Election Appeal: DG SS Not Blackmailing S'Court Justices' - Investigation ...Report figment of Ude's imagination - Intelligence Sources Reports alleging that the Director General of the Department of State Services (DG SS), Alhaji YM Bichi, is blackmailing justics of the Supreme Court to tilt judgement in the pending appeal in favour of President Bola Tinubu, are false, baseless, and a figment of the imagination of the purveyors, investigations have revealed. Highly-placed sources at the DSS, who spoke in confidence on the matter, accused Mr. Jackson Ude of "peddling dangerous falsehood", which consequence may be grave. Recalls that Jackson Ude had recently alleged that Alhaji Bichi, was blackmailing justices of the Supreme Court to tilt judgement in the pending appeal in favour of President Tinubu Speaking in confidence with our correspondent, one of the intelligence sources said: "The general public is invited to note that the allegation against the DG SS is not only spurious, but a figment of the imagination of Jackson Ude. "On my honour, I make bold to say that Alh. Bichi, the DG SS, has a record of an unblemished carrier, which does not allow for institutional interference of any form whatsoever. "It is, therefore, unthinkable to make such allegations, more so that the DSS under the leadership of Alh. Bichi, has continued to nurtur the culture of the rule of law across all facets of the agency. "As journalists, I plead that you ignore reports from Jackson Ude and his ilks, as they serve no purpose other than to mislead the undiscerning public, and heat up the polity. "Let me close by saying that Nigerians are too sophisticated for the likes of Jackson Ude to hoodwink them, or pull the wool over their eyes".

Real Estate is a Catalyst for Economic Progress, Social Development..... Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa _...See Real Estate as a fulcrum to Revitalize our economy .....Dr. Wamakko_ By Nsikak Ekpenyong, Abuja The Minister for Housing and Urban Development, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa on Tuesday said they are fully aware that real estate development is not just about constructing buildings, but it is a catalyst for economic progress and social development. He said Real Estate has the power to create jobs and improve the quality of life for people. Represented by the minister of state, Abdullahi Gear at the opening of a two day seminar organized by the Real Estate Developer's Association of Nigeria (REDAN) said under the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, housing has been made a key priority, as a sector that can help significantly towards lifting 100million Nigerians out of poverty, creating jobs and ensuring inclusive growth. Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa said the federal government recognized that to do this requires, a collaborative effort from both the public and private sectors will surely be needed. Speaking further, he said, "Opportunities for Sustainable Real Estate Projects," is apt. We all recognize that the most significant challenge in affordable housing is the cost of finance. " Interest rates on bonds are in the double digits, and raising international funding for housing projects remains challenging due to fluctuations in our foreign exchange rates. Moreover, budgetary financing for housing development is inadequate to meet the demand. "Currently, the most accessible sources of single-digit finance for housing construction are the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) through the National Housing Fund (NHF) Scheme and the housing construction windows of the Family Homes Funds (FHFL). " However, the resources pooled together by FMBN through NHF and FHFL through government injections and partnerships are still grossly inadequate to provide the volume of housing required. "Therefore, in line with the conference theme, it is imperative that for our nation to deliver the necessary quantum of housing units that Nigerians need at prices they can afford, we must find innovative ways to unlock housing finance while encouraging private sector investment in the housing sector "As a Ministry and in alignment with the vision and direction of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we are dedicated to creating a conducive environment that fosters increased private sector investment in housing . "Our objective is to break all institutional, legal, and bureaucratic barriers that have hindered sector growth over the years. "This includes collaborating with key stakeholders to review and amend the Land Use Act to streamline land administration and make access to land easy and fast. We hope that by doing so, we can unlock the estimated dead capital estimated by Price Waterhouse Coopers as being over $300 billion " Additionally, we are diligently working to reform the key agencies under the Ministry's supervision- the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Housing Authority. Strengthening these institutions will enhance their financial capacity to provide affordable housing finance and work with members of REDAN, enabling the delivery of more housing to Nigerians. " As we move in this direction, it is important to emphasize that REDAN and its members have a pivotal role to play as partners in progress. Indeed, your association's integrity as partners and success are underpinned by fundamental principles: the adherence to building codes by members, commitment to ensuring the quality of buildings, and maintaining the highest levels of professionalism. As members of REDAN, these principles are not mere guidelines, they are the cornerstones upon which your reputation, credibility, and the safety of our communities are built. " I would like to emphasize that building codes are not bureaucratic regulations; they are the guardians of public safety and form the structural integrity of our houses. Adhering to these codes would ensure that our buildings are resilient and capable of withstanding various challenges, including natural disasters. "Therefore, it is essential for developers to meticulously follow these codes, leaving no room for compromise or negligence. By doing so, you demonstrate your commitment to the safety and well-being of the people who will inhabit the houses you build " Quality should also be the hallmark of every construction project you undertake. From the choice of materials to the craftsmanship employed, every aspect of our buildings must reflect the highest standards, Quality buildings not only withstand the test of time but also enhance the overall living experience for the occupants. As government, we will do our part, but we expect REDAN to enjoin its members to also invest in superior construction practices, innovative technologies, and skilled labor to guarantee the longevity and durability of our developments. " So, to all the real estate developers, investors, and financial experts present here today, I urge you to leverage this platform for robust discussions, knowledge sharing, and networking. Let us explore innovative financing mechanisms, share success stories, and identify potential challenges. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, we can unlock new investment opportunities, mobilize financial resources, and support the development of sustainable real estate projects across the nation." Earlier, the president of REDAN, Dr. Aliyu Oroji Wamakko used the forum to called on government at the Federal, State and Local Government levels to consider the real estate as a fulcrum to revitalize the economy by supporting the sector and REDAN. Dr. Wamakko who is also the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Jedo investment company limited said the essence of the workshop is to further build the knowledge base of their Members to be able to manage the multidimensional and multidisciplinary challenges involved in real estate business. He said it is also to increase their Capacity to reduce waste and ensure timely delivery of projects, adding that the knowledge from the conference will greatly help in reducing the incidence of building collapse.

Dangote Cement seems to have taken a cue from what its counterpart, BUA Cement did weeks ago by reducing the price of its cement. According to a report as well as a press release that came up a couple of hours ago, the price for a bag of Dangote Cement has been reduced to 2,410 NAIRA. This is believed to be sequel to pressures from Nigerians who have been demanding that DANGOTE should reduce the price of its products since BUA led the way.

By Bamidele Akinola Ogundana 'Must WIKE sack the FCTA agency heads?' Above caption was a piece published in The Authority Newspaper, October 4 2023 edition and it quickly caught my attention. The reason being that as one who has been around for a while in the FCT and who expects more than the Administration has offered so far, one was excited at the announcement of Barrister Nyesom Wike as the Minister, FCT. Wike was coming from a last job well delivered for the people of Rivers State and those of us in the FCT were encouraged in the hope that there is going to be a semblance of real governance; something that can only be compared to the administration of the immediate-past Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, then as FCT Minister. Expectations from the current FCT Administration has no doubt increased the interest of the resident in Governance and that is why every policy pronouncement made by Wike attracts more than a passing attention. The issue at discussion is one of them. Wike had about two weeks ago removed the heads of 21 Agencies in the FCTA and the wisdom behind that sweeping directive is being put to question by the referenced write up. My immediate response on reading the above was ‘no, he needn’t sack all if he doesn’t have to’. But then, can he sack even more than that number? To that I say ‘yes, if he has to’. As for the career civil servants who were affected, my understanding is that Wike does not have to retire them- and he didn’t retire them to the best of my knowledge. But it is within his power to remove them as heads of those Agencies if by his own estimation, they do not fit into his plan. What this means is that they could be redeployed to other offices or taken back to the pool, and it has happened before. This view is not to discount the capacity of these Directors but to buttress the fact that the Minister is at liberty to choose his team. Then, for the political appointees, it goes without saying that their continued stay in office is at the mercy of the Authority who appointed them in the first place and it does not matter how long they may have stayed. This brings me to the case of the sacked Managing Director of Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO), Mallam Najeeb Abdulsalam. Mallam Najeeb was said to have been appointed just three months before his sack. The reason his sack is being questioned is that his former staff protested against it. They reportedly claimed that he has done what no other CEO has done in the history of that company. But what exactly did he do? I am not sure any of the protester said so. What could he have done in 3 months? May be give them hope, put processes in place that are likely to yield desired result. Was that enough to insist that he must continue to stay? After all the ‘magical performances’, (in the voice of the minister), where are the buses? Let us assume without conceding that Mallam Najeeb of AUMTCO provided an array of hope for the workers of the Transport Company and may have delivered, had Wike not fired him. On what basis should someone lump Mallam Najeeb whom his staff shed tears for (even if crocodile’s type)- to another CEO whom his own staff and traders across the markets of the FCT had protested against his protracted stay in office. In the said write up, Wike was also vilified for not considering that the sacked Managing Director of Abuja Markets Management Limited, Abubakar Usman Faruk ‘was just reinstated by series of court orders less than three months ago’. The write conveniently ignored the ugly details surrounding Abubakar Usman Faruk’s stay at AMML, in an effort at misleading the reading public to believing that the Minister’s action was not thought through. A simple Google search of the name would have given the writer more than he bargained for, had he cared to. Abubakar Usman Faruk was appointed by then FCT Minister Adamu Aliero in April 4 2009. He was there until 2020 when the erstwhile Minister Mohammed Musa Bello redeployed him following allegation of land grabbing and confiscating Government plots not in any way related to either him or the office he occupied, to embark on market project to the tune of about N5 Billion (at UTC Area 7 Garki Abuja) without approval from any quarter. He was directed to hand over to the most senior staff of AMML then and report to the office of Director Human Resources, FCTA. He complied with this directives for three whole years within which he drew full salaries and allowance from AMML, some even upfront to 2024. At the twilight of the then Administration, the then Minister finally directed that he should be relieved of his office. He learnt of it and proceeded to court to challenge his three year old redeployment. When the then Minister reconstituted some boards including that of AMML, he again approached another court to challenge the legality of the board so reconstituted, sensing that the Board was going to sound a final nail to his unending stay. The court ruled that he was still a director of AMML going by the provision of CAMA 2020 but nowhere in the ruling was he reinstated as the MD of AMML as suggested by the said write up. Even at that, he still went ahead, embarking on self-help to force himself into the office of the managing director, AMML. The Federal High Court has indeed disowned that process. Also, the owners of the Company made up of Abuja Investments Company Limited and Federal Capital Territory Administration sitting at an Extra-ordinary General Meeting on the 17th of July 2023, relieved Mr. Faruk of his job for ‘services no longer required’. So Faruk has been fired before and no court has reinstated him, but because he took advantage of a seeming vacuum in Government to deploy unorthodox means (including use of armed vigilantes and tugs to barricade the Head office of the Company), he managed to hang around warranting Wike to sack him again. If there is just one person that should be fired among that 21 Heads of FCT Agencies, one does not see any other person more qualified than a CEO who has stayed a record 15 years in office including a 3 years of no work but full pay- and above all, had the nerve to challenge the authority that appointed him. Using Abubakar Faruk as a reason Wike shouldn’t have fired Heads of FCT Agencies exposes the writer’s insidious motive- a weak attempt at justifying why the man who is now described as the emperor of AMML has continued to disregard the Ministerial directive to hand over to the most senior officer of the Agency, two weeks after. It is being whispered around FCTA Secretariat corridors of the impending retirement of the permanent secretary and takeover by a Director in acting capacity; who was said to have assured that he would advise Wike to let Faruk be. The Minister has his job cut out for him and should go ahead to deliver on it by ensuring that he immediately appoint people with shared vision and competence into those vacant positions. The duty of all well-meaning FCTA officials and residents is to support Wike to achieve the Abuja of our dream, because we can all see that he is in a hurry to do so.

Ever since the bombshell dropped by BUA Group Chairman, Abdul Samad Rabiu that he was bringing down the price of cement there has been clamour for the reduction of Dangote Cement price. This is because he controls the larger share of the market and if BUA can bring the price down, there is no reason why other major stakeholders cannot do same. Rather than take a cue, react to what BUA has done, Dangote has unfortunately kept quiet with a view to maximizing on the price disparity. Unconfirmed reports claim that cement dealers as well as distributors have been rebagging BUA Cement and selling it as Dangote Cement thereby making the BUA brand unavailable. This according to our findings is to ensure that they make more profit from the current situation. Investigations also revealed that some of the marketers have been claiming that they have not had supplies from BUA cement and so they cannot sell at the new rates. Our findings however negate this. What we see in all these are attempts by marketers to make unnecessary gains at the expense of the common man. Nigerians from all walks of life have been calling upon Dangote to adjust his own price to reflect the new reality. His refusal is giving the marketers and distributors the leeway to rebag and sell BUA products as if they are his own at exorbitant price to Nigerians and he's making huge profit at the expense of Nigerians. Only yesterday, Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria, REDAN joined many stakeholders to urge Dangote to bring down the price of his own product so as to reduce the burden on Nigerians. While commending Abdul Samad Rabiu for bringing down the price of cement to 3,500 naira, REDAN President, Dr Aliyu Wamakko who is also the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Jedo investment challenged Aliko Dangote and others in the cement business to emulate BUA. "We in REDAN commend Abdul Samad Rabiu for his integrity, his tenacity and for being a fairly business person, and for that reason we call on other gladiators in the built industry that produce’s building materials to follow suit, somebody like Dangote and the rest of the people producing cement and other building materials in the country . Many more groups are clamouring for same. Building experts believe that if DANGOTE does not act on this, it simply means he doesn't have the interest of Nigerians at heart and the industry will be plagued with crisis soon. A situation where two major players are selling virtually the same products at such different prices will ultimately play into the hands of unscrupulous distributors who will try to maximize by selling the cheaper ones at a costly price to make more profit, they added.

While commending Abdul Samad Rabiu for bringing down the price of cement to 3,500 naira, Dr Wamakko who is also the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Jedo investment challenged Aliko Dangote and others in the cement business to emulate BUA. The benefits of reduction in cement price is a unanimous welcome development because, it is going to affect so many lives of Nigerians, most times project slows down Because of cost of cement. "So we will to be able to provide affordable housing to Nigerians cost of building materials must come down. We sincerely appreciate and commend BUA for his words to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently. Who organized the guber primary election that produced Achonu? The answer is Julius Abure, the court suspended national chairman of LP Did Basil Maduka participate in the Alhaji Apapa organized primary election in Imo State? The answer is NO. In whose primary election did Sir Basil Maduka participate? The answer is Abure's organized guber primary election of 15th April, 2023. What then is the bone of contention? One may ask. The bone of contention and crux of the matter is that Sir Basil Maduka, who never participated in the Alhaji Apapa's guber primary election in Imo State, approached the Owerri Federal High Court, challenging the victory of Evang Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu at the April 16th guber primary election organized by Apapa led NWC In the said suit, Maduka did not join Achonu as an interested party and he (Achonu) never bordered to join or be joined in the suit as an interested party. After hearing the matter on merit, the Federal High Court which sat in Bayelsa State, affirmed Evang Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu, the authentic governorship candidate of Imo Labour party, having won the primary election conducted in the state by Alhaji Apapa led NWC of the Labour Party. The court also said that Sir Basil Maduka had no locus to challenge Ukaegbu's victory in the first instance, because he (Maduka) did not partake or participate in the April 16th primary election. The court also said that the primary election conducted by Apapa in Imo, Bayelsa and Kogi States were the authentic primaries of the party, pronouncing Abure's primary election of15th April in the three states as criminal, unlawful, null and void. According to the court, Abure was suspended and restrained from parading himself as the party's national chairman by a court of competent jurisdiction as at the time the primary election was conducted Not satisfied, Maduka approached the Owerri Appeal Court, seeking to upturn the judgement of the Federal High Court. At this point, Senator Achonu, sort to be joined in the matter as an interested party but his joinder application was dismissed by the appeal court for lacking merit. In it's ruling, the Owerri Appeal Court dismissed the case of the appellant, Sir Basil Maduka, for lacking locus and upheld the decision of the Federal High Court which affirmed Ukaegbu the authentic governorship candidate of the party. Still determined to snatch the Imo Labour party guber ticket from Ukaegbu through the judiciary, Maduka rushed to the Supreme Court. Again Senator Achonu filed a joinder application as an interested party, explaining to the court that he was denied the right to fear hearing because he (Achonu) was not joined in the matter at the court of first instance. Again. the Supreme Court on the 11th of September, 2023, dismissed Achonu's joinder application based on his discontinuance or withdrawal application. Then came the tsunami, the last straw that broke the camel's back, the day the 2023 governorship ambitions of Achonu and Maduka kissed the dust. The Supreme Court, on Thursday, 28th, September, 2023, dismissed Maduka's appeal against Ukaegbu's candidacy for lacking locus, thereby, upheld the earlier positions or decisions of the Federal High Court and Appeal Court which respectively affirmed Ukaegbu, the authentic and indisputable Imo Labour Party gubernatorial candidate The Apex Court never mentioned Achonu or Abure let alone naming them beneficiaries of its ruling. Not after Achonu' s matter was dismissed a week before. With this development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to publish Evang Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu's name as the authentic governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the November. 11th 2023, Imo governorship election.

Finally, Achonu’s Guber Hope Dashed _As Supreme Court Affirms UKAEGBU as authentic Candidate of LP in Imo State.__ Senator Athan Achonu’s hope of becoming the next governor of Imo State on the platform of the Labour Party has been dashed following the dismissal of Sir.Basil Maduka’s appeal by the Supreme Court suit no:SC/cv/897/2023 Basil Maduka vs Labour party & ors. A five man panel of Supreme Court judges had on Thursday, 28th, September, 2023, dismissed Maduka’s appeal challenging Ukaegbu’s candidacy with caution. It should be recalled that Maduka had approached the apex court of the land, seeking to upturn the affirmation of Evang.Joseph Ikechukwu Ukaegbu as the authentic candidate of Imo Labour Party by a Federal High Court Sitting in Bayelsa State. The court in its ruling, also affirmed the authenticity of Alhaji Apapa Led NWC of the party, saying that Brr Julius Abure was suspended by a court of competent jurisdiction as at the time the primary election was conducted in the state However, Maduka, not satisfied, appealed the ruling at the Appeal Court in Owerrri, where Achonu sort to be joined in the matter to no avail. The appellate court in it’s ruling, dismissed Ahonu’s joinder application as well as Maduka’s matter for lacking merit. Still not satisfied, Maduka approached the Supreme Court where his a matter again, was dismissed. The dismissal of his matter came barely one week after the same court dismissed Achonu’s joinder application on11th September,2023 in suit no: SC/CV/845/2023. It therefore, becomes strange and unimaginable that Achonu’s camp is busy jubilating and spreading fake news and victory when their master’s case was last week, dismissed by the Supreme Court. The case that was dismissed on Thursday was filed by Maduka, challenging Ukaegbu’s ticket. At no point was Achonu’s or Abure’s name mentioned by the Supreme Court as beneficiaries of its ruling. What this means is that the judgement of the Federal High Court in Bayelsa and that of the Appeal Court in Abuja, affirming Ukakegbu’s guber candidacy of Imo Labour Party, subsists. With the latest development, the Supreme Court has buried completely, Achonu’s 2023 Imo governorship ambition With this now it is very clear that any vote for labour party will be in favour of Chief Ikechukwu Joseph Ukaegbu, and any other claim by any person as labour governorship candidate in Imo is impersonation as the Apex court have cleared the air.
