The western region today is successful because almost all Nigerians who become wealthy abroad invest all their money in Lagos. Not only that but I can estimate that 95%+ of prominent westerners where brought up in Lagos or foreign countries

However, prior to the civil war, the east was more advanced than the west due to rapid development (I can provide proof) Yorubas had a head start because they welcomed colonialism whilst the opposite happened in the east

The east has the potential for rapid development because of the amount of human capital located in such a small area and how urban the population is, just like Israel. All it needs is stability then things will return to pre civil war era normalcy
