He might get a bad rap for not being sure what his real age was or be accused of being a little cocky, but there’s no denying that Kiss Daniel does know how to make good music.

And he was the biggest winner of the night at the 2016 Headies, carting away three plaques in the Best R&B/Pop album, Hip Hop World Revelation and Album of the Year categories.

The G-Worldwide signee was initially absent when the first category was announced and his label mate Sugarboy had to pick it up on his behalf.

It seemed as though it would be same thing when his Hip Hop World Revelation award was called but he walked in on stage at the last minute. He would go on to win a third, a feat that was unrepeated on the night.

In the short while that Kiss Daniel has been an artiste, his career has enjoyed unprecedented growth.

His official debut was in 2014 and the follow up track, ‘Woju’ catapulted him into the mainstream spotlight.

He released his album, New Era in 2016 and with songs like ‘Mama’, ‘Jombo’ and ‘Sin City’ featured on the 20-track album, it was enough to allow him go on a world tour and, as the Headies triumph will prove, place him heads and shoulders above his peers this year.

Only a year ago at the 2015 edition of The Headies, Kiss Daniel was nominated in the Next Rated category and lost out to Reekado Banks. What a difference those 12 months make: this year he’s the winner with the most awards.

His big win on the biggest awards stage is more impressive when one considers the acts he had to fight off for each of the Headies plaques he went home with: Wande Coal, Darey Art Alade, Brymo, Seyi Shay, Lil Kesh, Runtown and Falz.

None of the acts threw up a tantrum like Olamide did last year when his act Lil Kesh didn’t win – perhaps proof of Kiss Daniels’ ascendancy to the pinnacle of pop success.

Queen Elizabeth has ruled for as long as many of us can remember. In 2015, she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria, to become the longest-reigning British monarch and the longest-reigning queen regent and female head of state in world history.

In October 2016, she became the longest currently reigning monarch and head of state following the death of King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand.

Officially known as Queen Elizabeth II of England, she is to step down as patron of more than 20 national organisations at the end of December 2016.

She celebrated her 90th birthday in April and following the lead of the Duke of Edinburgh who broke formal ties with some of his patronages when he turned 90 in 2011, she will be doing same.

This was the official statement released:

“At the end of the Queen’s 90th birthday year, Her Majesty will step down as patron from a number of national organisations. The patronages will be passed on to other members of the royal family in the coming months.”

This was announced by Buckingham Palace on Tuesday, December 20, it was however stressed that the monarch is still patron of more than 600 organizations.

Her replacement would be members of the Royal Family and the organisations involved include: Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, Barnardo’s, the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club and Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Association.

An additional 1,880 women and children have been rescued from Boko Haram insurgents in the Sambisa Forest by the Nigerian Army. Maj. – Gen. Lucky Irabor, the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, said this during a news conference at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri on Wednesday. Irabor said that troops also arrested about 504 Boko Haram terrorists while 19 of them willingly surrendered.


He said that the Army had arrested about 37 foreigners who were currently undergoing interrogations to ascertain whether they were terrorists or not. “We also arrested about seven kidnappers and we are currently interrogating them. “Our troops have continued to make significant progress in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency. “I gladly say that our troops have successfully mop up all the areas in Sambisa Forest including gate one. “We are currently in camp zero; I am not going to tell you what we are doing there. “But I can assure you that we are recording remarkable successes.’’


Irabor called on the general public, especially female students of tertiary institutions to be wary of new recruitment website, “as Boko Haram insurgency is an evil that is determined to destroy the society”.
