The Lagos judicial panel has awarded the sum of N10 million to the family of one of the many victims of police extrajudicial killing, Kolade Johnson.
Johnson was shot during a raid by police officers at Onipetesi area in Lagos, while watching an English premiership match between Tottenham and Manchester United on March 31, 2019.

The Lagos state police command later identified the trigger-happy officers as Ogunyemi Olalekan, a police inspector, and Godwin Orji, a sergeant.

Following an orderly trial, Olalekan was dismissed from the force after he was found guilty, while Orji was acquitted.

Shortly after the ENDSARS judicial panel was constituted by the Lagos state government, the family of the deceased wrote a petition demanding justice.

At the resumed hearing of the panel today, the chairman of the panel, Justice Doris Okuwobi, announced the award of N10 million compensation to the family.

The award sum was received by the mother of the deceased.

No fewer than 40 out of the 48 bills so far passed by the Ahmad Lawan-led 9th Senate, are awaiting either the presidential assent, or the House of Representatives

Also, no fewer than 160 out of 287 bills passed by the Bukola Saraki-led 8th Senate were not given assent by the President

revealed that the red chamber had so far introduced 717 bills, since its inauguration in June 2019.

Out of the figure, 130 bills are at various committee stages, 43 are awaiting second reading, 370 had been read for the first time, 126 are awaiting first reading, while 48 had been passed.

While the House of Representatives had concurred to some of the proposed legislation and sent them for the assent of the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), others are still awaiting the green chambers’ concurrence.

The breakdown further showed that the 9th Senate, in its first session, passed 13 bills between June 2019 and June 2020 while it passed 35 bills in its second session between June 2020 till date.

Some of the bills passed and already got presidential assents so far include, the Deep Offshore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contract Act 2004 (Amendment) Bill, 2019.

They also included the Finance Bill 2020, the Nigeria Police Bill 2020, the Amended Banking Bill 2020, the amendments to the Company and Allied Matters Act Bill 2020.

Major bills receiving legislative attention at the various committees of the red chamber included the Electoral Act amendment Bill, and the Petroleum Industry Bill.

Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State on Saturday recalled how he contracted the dreaded COVID-19 from a fellow governor in 2020.
El-Rufai, while speaking at the seventh Ahmadu Bello Foundation lecture in Kaduna on Saturday, also said no fewer than 50,000 people would have been killed by the virus last year if a lockdown had not been imposed.

The governor had, on March 26, 2020, imposed a lockdown on Kaduna, following the outbreak of the disease and partially lifted it on June 9, 2020, after 75 days.

According to him, he spent 26 days in isolation, adding that even his wives ran away from him.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) headquarters in Ubakala, Umuahia South Local Government Area of Abia State, has been attacked by gunmen suspected to b members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The NIS headquarters in the state is located few distances away from a Police formation within Ubakala which was previously attacked by these hoodlums and resulted in the death of two Policemen.

It was gathered that they bombed the NIS building and opened fire on personnel of the Service, killing many officers in the process.

It was gathered that vehicles within the compound were also set on fire.

The Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) located at Umuagu, Umuahia was attacked by gunmen earlier on Saturday.

The gunmen, numbering over 50, were half-naked.

Some were seen hanging live cock around their neck while many of them are armed with AK47 rifles.

They attacked the security formation and set it ablaze.

According to The Nation, the 16 abducted students and staff of Greenfield University, Kaduna State have been released.
The 13 students and three staff were reunited with their families at a hotel around Command junction in Chikun local government area of Kaduna metropolis.

The students looked tattered, unkempt and sick.

The Nation had reported that armed bandits invaded the Greenfield University campus at Kasarami village along Kaduna-Abuja highway on 20th April 2021 and kidnapped students and staff.

The kidnappers had shortly after the abduction killed five of the students after the parents, school management and government failed to raise the N800m ransom demanded.

Meanwhile, parents of the students expressed anger on Saturday as they were re-united with their children, saying that, government failed them.

Some of the parents said they sold their property to pay ransom for their children’s release

Barely 48hours after 3 passengers on motorcycle were crushed to death in Ago-Oko area, Abeokuta, Ogun state capital, a motorcyclist lost his life today when he was crushed by a Truck opposite Enyo Filling Station axis along Abeokuta/Ibadan Highway

The motorcycle rider with registration number LAR 839VM was crushed by a Volvo Truck with registration number AKD 843XE.

Trace Commander in Obantoko Division, F.O. Akinremi attributed the accident to impatient by the motorcyclist who ran into the truck at Asero.

The remains of the unindentified motorcyclist have been deposited at the State Hospital Morgue

The security situation in
Nigeria have gone beyond President Buhari and his cabinet. The situation have deteriorated and there is need to look for helping hands from the old bridges.

When Gov. Nasir El Rufai took
the leadership of governorship in Kaduna state, little did he foreseen the turn around of events confronting him today.
He inherited a large sum of workers who are not productive to the state, but only report for duty few days to the end of the month or few days after for collection of salary.


This working system only bulged down to sharing of national cake from the federation account. To El Rufai and other governors believed it is a normal things, until the big elephant killed and kept at Abuja for sharing has be consumed.
Presently, among the governors, it is only Gov. El Rufai that come to the realisation of the end of meat from Abuja. Father Christmas (Presidency) could not fulfilled the usual obligation to share money and Gov. El Rufai need to meet up with his responsibilities to the state.

HOW DID IT BEGAN.

Gov.Nasir is not a seasoned politician, according to him in his book " Accidents Public Servant) he came into politics when he was appointed minister of federal Territory. The rules of politics " sit in your office without making any changes till your tenure elapsed, is not in his character".

WAY FORWARD
Gov. El Rufai's action is like a cancer in puberty stage that requires an urgent attention. The action of Nasir should not be regarded as witch-hurting. Dialogue should be the father of the day. Let parties come to a round table to agreed and move the state further. Gov. El Rufai calling for the arrest of labour protesters is not the way forward. Both should sheave their sword and listen to third party in this matter.
Sickness that will kill should not be shifted. Many Gov. knew of this problem and they are refusing to face it.

Hoodlums, numbering about 50, on Thursday night, allegedly attacked the residence of the deposed monarch of Ugboland in the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, Adebanjo Mafimisebi, allegedly leading to the death of a boy.

The seven-year-old boy, identified as Marvelous Akintubuwa, was allegedly thrown into the river by the bandits and his corpse was discovered floating on Friday morning.

Following the attack, the Mafimisebi’s family had petitioned the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, and security agencies in the state, informing them about the development.

The petition, signed by a legal practitioner, Mr Idowu Mafimisebi, alleged that the hoodlums were sponsored by the current Olugbo of Ugboland, Oba Frederick Akinruntan.

The petition read in part, “Our clients informed us that sometime in November, 2019, Obateru Akinruntan (the Olugbo of Ugbo) instructed his thugs to repaint the houses of Dr Adebanjo Mafimisebi, formerly the Olugbo of Ugbo, and claimed that he had control over the property because he was now the Olugbo of Ugbo and threatened that he would eject the family of the former Olugbo out of the premises

Fasting and prayers , according to the leadership of the Adamawa State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ), are the surest ways of ensuring the immediate release of the kidnapped female journalists , Amrah Ahmed Diska.

The said female journalist, a nursing mother, was abducted by unknown gunmen last Tuesday at Mbamba in Yola South Local Government Council.

The abductors whom our correspondent learnt went for the husband of the journalists but met his absence, decided to kidnapped the wife, leaving behind her newly born baby.

Some colleagues who also bared their minds on the issue, beckoned on both the state and federal governments to wade in by ensuring that she regains her freedom from the kidnappers den unhurt.

Niger State Governor Reshuffles Cabinet

A statement issued by Governor Bello’s Chief Press Secretary, Mrs Mary Noel-Berje, today says the Commissioner of Finance, Alhaji Zakari Abubakar, is to oversee the Ministry of Planning in addition to the Finance Ministry.

The Commissioner for Works , Alhaji Ibrahim Panti, is directed to hand over to the Commissioner for Planning, Alhaji Mamman Musa.

Berje stated that the directive was with immediate effect.

The former Works Commissioner has been dropped from the cabinet.

The proprietor of Austin Pharmacy, Austin Umweni, was on Wednesday killed by a hit-and-run driver on Airport Road, Benin City, while jogging early in the morning.


The driver was said to be driving a Mercedes Benz car when he hit Umweni, who was said to be a keep-fit enthusiast and who usually engaged in early jogging along the route where he was killed.

The remains of Umweni have been deposited at a morgue in the state capital.


While members of staff of his pharmacy store along Igun Street, were seen discussing the incident in low tones, the family of the deceased were at the state traffic division on Sapele Road, asking the authorities to fish out his killer.
A worker at the pharmacy store lamented the incident and wondered why such fate should befall their boss, whom he described as a compassionate man.

Having ruled Chad for more than years, he was on the verge of returning for the sixth time when he was felled by the rebels on the battle front

In a well structure democracy, Derby would not be eligible to contest for up to thirty years in office. But typical like most African leaders he was manipulating the electoral process to guarantee him in office.

Service is ready to stem smuggling activities and also ensure quick clearance at the ports but these could not be achieved without modern equipment. Towards this the federal government should appropriate enough resources for the customs in subsequent budgets.

In his submission, the Chairman Nigeria union of journalists Lagos State Me Adeleye Ajayi pledged the support of the council to the activities of the Nigeria Customs. He said journalists would always ensure that their reports were always balanced

On the issue of fake news and journalists, Mr Ajayi said the union has set up a committee to handle them, assuring that culprits would be dealt with.
