in 1993 when that election which Abiola won was held, Southeast had only 4 states; Anambra, Abia, Enugu and Imo.


MKO Abiola won Anambra state.

MKO Abiola scored over 43% of total votes cast in Imo, Abia and Enugu, while Tofa got around 45% to 46%, which meant that Tofa won MKO Abiola in Imo, Abia and Enugu with very small margins, so MKO Abiola secured more than the required % he needed in Southeast.


Let it also be known that an Igbo man from Imo State known as Sylvester Ugo was Tofa's running mate, meaning MKO Abiola contested against Igbo man indirectly yet Igbos voted massively for MKO Abiola a Yoruba man.


Let it also be noted that it was an Igbo man; Prof. Humphrey Nwosu who was the Chairman of NEC now INEC that damned the consequences, refused the directive of the Military government that told him to stop result collation in 1993 Presidential election, that man took the risk and declared MKO the winner of the election without fear. Yorubas dont ever celebrate or mention that man in their political history because he is Igbo man.



The only time an Igbo man that got massive Igbo support came out for Presidency in 2023, Yorubas could not give him 15% votes in their entire states of Osun, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo and Ekiti, but Igbos voted massively for 2 Yoruba presidential candidates MKO Abiola and Olusegun Obasanjo.

One thing is for sure. If Elrufai leaves the APC he will leave with majority (in millions) of the northern votes that Tinubu got in the previous election. To merge that numbers with the much talked about coalition will be a game changer. Like it or not, a lot of young Northerners hold Elrufai in very high regard and have become disillusioned with this government. They will follow him to wherever he go. Northerners like to give their word and keep it but they take betrayals very seriously and respond appropriately. I do not think the crop of Northern politicians that the President has around him can successfully galvanise the North the way an Elrufai can.

Atiku has barely lost any vote he got the last time and seems set to add to the numbers. It may be argued that Obi has lost some of his voters to Tinubu, but it will mostly be voters of the Southwestern extraction. Whether this numbers can decide 2027 for this government remains to be seen. You all can do the maths.
