Introducing The Real Peter Obi (Part 1) By Obiora Aghadinuno
The trouble with Peter Obi is that he thinks that he is cleverer than everyone else. He maintains a bland and colorless surface that conceals a grandiose interior. He talks with the voice of a woman in labor but carries a heart of stone. He maintains a well-cultivated religious outlook but his soul is the engine room of demons. The former governor of Anambra State reminds me of a luscious apple with a large maggot neatly embedded in its middle.

So, can we really blame those who mistake him for a good man?

The trouble with Peter Obi is that he believes that no one else is smart enough to see through him; that he remains opaque and enigmatic to people around him. He immerses himself in so many devious games of intrigue and subterfuge—revealing only a side of him that he wants to share with the public, a side of him that seems pleasant and kind.

But beneath the surface lies a vicious puff adder. The side that stirs awake in the dead of the night to order a contractor to the Governor’s Lodge and demand a kickback for jobs awarded in broad daylight. The disingenuous side that lays bobby traps for his successor with the eleventh hour award of multiple contracts without any provisioning.

The trouble with Peter Obi is not just that he thinks that he could deceive the priests and the religious in Anambra State after forcing a wedge between the denominations and setting the house of God on fire by instigating bitter rivalries between God’s servants. No. It is that Peter thinks that the rest of us would believe his innocence once he is decorated with high religious titles and maintains the well-worn attitudes of false religion. Meanwhile, the landscape is still reeling from the many horrors of his my-church-is-better-than-your-church policy that polarized brothers and split time-honored friendships. If Peter does not consider us all fickle and thoughtless he wouldn’t have left the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia, still asking whether Anambra is cursed.

He would have accepted that he is the curse himself, the very pox that has continued to corrode Anambra State even after his exit from power.

The other trouble with Peter Obi is that he believes that after stealing Anambra State blind, he could just rustle up a ridiculous handover note and force-feed his voodoo accounting principles on the rest of us and we would lap it all up without question and remain eternally grateful that we have been touched by an angel. What a cheek! Peter thinks that because he spent all his years in Nsukka, “peddling stuff” rather than studying philosophy, we are all addle-headed like him and would not remember or understand that in any accounting process, there are assets and liabilities as well as credit and debit. So, he manufactured a laughable handover note that is full of dead bodies and believes that by shouting about it from the rooftops, our attention would be diverted from him while he enjoys his loot in absolute peace. Worse still, he believes that his spin-doctors, Val Obienyem and Mazi Odera, have all the cunning and firepower to weave believable stories that would mislead probing eyes. So, he directed them to shout about his phony N75bn anytime Governor Obiano’s performance seems to attract a positive reaction and hijack the encomium for the little god of Agulu.

Unfortunately, in his blind pursuit of vendetta, he fails to realize that many people are aware that no one in his right mind would withhold or divert an applause meant for a governor who has proved himself with a resounding performance in one and a half years. He forgot that sooner than later, people would begin to wonder if the great achievements they are seeing all over Anambra State are still the products of the past administration which “democratized poverty” with its famed “supermarket” knowledge of economics. They would begin to ask questions about all the local government allocations in eight years and the huge security votes that have now been ploughed into building poorly run shopping malls in Abuja and elsewhere. People would also ask questions about the blatant rape of Anambra State, the award of contracts without due process, the dubious collaborations with South African businessmen and the criminal neglect of Awka, the state capital, for so many years. Naturally, they would shudder at the utter lack of big ideas in eight years and the disastrous entry into national politics that cost Goodluck Jonathan a well deserved second term and threw Ndigbo into a political evil forest. Of course they would remember that Chukwuma Soludo had warned Jonathan of the inevitable consequences of having Peter as his adviser. But Jonathan did not pay attention. He had hoped that if Jesus had told Peter, “Upon this Rock will I build my church,” then he, too, could build his second term hopes on the Peter of Agulu. Now, it has dawned on Goodluck Jonathan that Obi is a different kind of Peter—in fact, that this Peter is no ROCK at all!

The real trouble with Peter Obi is that he takes himself too seriously. Peter believes that his “clever” politics of yester years is still valid today. So, he goes around visiting schools that he had starved of funds as a two-term governor, handing out miserable N1m cheques while smiling impishly to cameras and hugging the widows left behind by elder statesmen whose medical bills he had refused to pay while they struggled for life and making a meal of the photo opportunities. And funnily, he believes that we are all conned into accepting this moth-eaten image of a squeaky clean “St. Peter.”

The niggling trouble with Peter Obi is that he does not understand that you do not preserve a legacy by fighting for them or constantly reminding the people about them. No. Once we struggle to preserve a legacy, it takes something away from it. Legacies are like monuments embedded in memory. They are not easily washed away by the vagaries of time. They continue to announce themselves through the ages by the sheer force of their enduring value. A great legacy does not need the hagiographic skills of Val Obienyem or the praise songs of Mazi Odera. A legacy endures in the very lives of the people that it exists to serve. So, in striving to preserve the roads he built and the cheques he handed to Mission Schools and hospitals, Peter Obi is unwittingly calling attention to his lack of signature projects; his lack of a legacy. And the import of all this is not lost on us.

In the end, the actual tragedy of Peter Obi is the fact that he has chosen to write his name in the dark chapters of history. And no one should save him from his destiny. It is the road he chose to travel and the cobwebs of infamy are waiting to engulf him as he journeys.
Sports / Super Eagles Back To Winning Ways With Aiteo Sponsorship? by batho2017: 11:23am On Oct 10, 2017
https://www.google.com.ng/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/10/super-eagles-back-winning-ways-aiteo-sponsorship/amp/&ved=0ahUKEwjC1t-k6eXWAhVJWhoKHeoEDN0QyM8BCCMwAA&usg=AOvVaw2IXrbS9B-lDyjnkXNN6z4G&ampcf=1

On October 7, 2017, the Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the Chipolopolos of Zambia by 1-0 at the Uyo Stadium in Akwa Ibom. Alex Iwobi’s second half goal sealed Nigeria’s qualification to the 2018 world cup in Russia and dashed the Zambian team’s dream of featuring in the world cup.

There has been renewed Interest in the fortunes of Nigeria’s National team since the Super Eagles thrashed the Indomitable Lions of Cameroun 4-0 in a racy match last month in Uyo. When the super eagles were drawn in the group of death for the world cup 2018 qualifier, alongside Zambia, Algeria, and Cameroun, not many people gave them a chance of success.

This is because Nigeria’s three rivals in group B are some of Africa’s best teams. Zambia has been in great form and is highly ranked by FIFA, Algeria is ranked the best team in Africa while Cameroun is the defending African champion. To make matters worse, Super Eagles’ seemed to have been in poor shape earlier this year with many stars failing to show up for matches and a tale of abysmal performances, including a 2-0 thrashing by Bafana Bafana of South Africa on June 10, 2017.
One may now ask curiously, what it is that has brought this sudden revolution to the super eagles? Why are the big players that have refused to show up in the past suddenly putting in their best to make the team succeed? The answer is not farfetched; the Super Eagles, and indeed Nigerian football, has been injected with funds. There is a new financier in town, and its name is Aiteo.

Integrated Energy Solutions company, Aiteo, signed a five-year deal worth 2.5 billion naira, which became activated in May 2017, with the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, becoming the footballing body’s optimum partner. Part of the deal involved the sponsorship of local tournaments, funding for the super eagles, and salary payment for all coaches. As part of the deal, Aiteo is also sponsoring the Nigerian Federations cup, with funding of up to 300 million naira.

The Federations cup, Nigeria’s oldest football tournament has been renamed the ‘Aiteo Cup’. The deal literarily changed the face of football in the country as money flowed freely into various projects that had been stalled or lost vigour because of paucity of funds. Ever since the deal had been done, the Federations cup has recorded some remarkable successes.
Prior to June 2017, many people did not know of the existence of the foremost oil and gas company called Aiteo. It was even less known before 2015, when it won the bid to acquire the Oil Mining Lease(OML) 29 and accompanying Nembe Creek Trunk Line (NCTL) from Shell Petroleum Development Company for 1.7billion dollars.

The acquisition brought Aiteo into the public light and shot the company into success. The company’s production jumped up and stabilized around 90,000 barrels. This is three times the previous average production, making Aiteo the largest indigenous oil and gas company by output.

Seeing its fortune rise considerably, Aiteo decided to give out part of the funds it had generated into a worthy cause. The company found a worthy cause in football and decided to put it money into the development of the round leather game in Nigeria. A few months after, Aiteo’s sponsorships in football has led into remarkable progress in the game and generated a lot of interest in the company.
The first indication that business would not be usual in the Nigerian football landscape is the announcement by the NFF on June 12, that part of the funds provided by Aiteo has been used to offset all outstanding salaries of 27 coaches in all, including a number that had been owed for services rendered during the tenure of previous NFF administrations. The declaration was made by NFF 2nd Vice President, Mallam Shehu Dikko, who also disclosed that the outstanding salaries of Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser, Mr. Gernot Rohr has also been paid. The NFF subsequently lauded its optimum partner for keeping to its commitment.

Another indication of the development in Nigeria football is the remarkable changes the Federation cup (Now Aiteo cup) has experienced. Under Aiteo’s sponsorship, the costs of the organisation of the competition, solidarity support to Football Associations of the 36 States and the FCT, expenses and indemnities of match officials, support to participating Clubs, Media, Branding/Activation and Prize Money to winners will be paid by the company. Also, since Aiteo took over sponsorship, the prize money has been increased.

The winner of the Male tournament gets N25million while the winner of the female tournament gets N10million. With the injection of funds, the Federations cup has come alive as it has never done in a long time, recording several offsets as the competition hots up for the grand prize. The fund has definitely induced liveliness and colour in the tournament. The Aiteo cup kicked off on August 11 and it is gradually nearing the finals now.

Finally, the NFF and other Football stakeholders can pop the celebration champagne. The champagne to celebrate Nigeria’s world cup qualification was already iced after the Super Eagles fatally injured the Indomitable Lions in Uyo with Nigeria getting 9 points. Unfortunately, the champagne could not be opened then because Nigeria failed to beat Cameroun in the return match in Yaounde, as the Indomitable Lions stole a goal and were able to get a 1-1 draw, while Algeria failed to beat Zambia. The Lions were able to escape temporarily with their wounds. Now the Super Eagles have finally clinched the qualification after beating the Chipolopolo of Zambia on October 10.

It is important to encourage companies like Aiteo to continue to sponsor the NFF. It is also important to convince other companies to take up the challenge and fund sports as part of their Corporate Social Responsibilities. With Aiteo’s funding, the super eagles are experiencing a fresh breath of life as all their allowances are being duly paid. There is suddenly a lot of attention and hope in the team. There are no more issues regarding payment of allowance unlike previously when the players would be angry that they had not been paid. Let’s hope that this is not a flash, let’s hope that the Super Eagles are indeed back to winning ways

Politics / Gov Obiano’s Achievement In Two Years by batho2017: 5:07pm On Oct 04, 2017
No doubt, the current economic recession has affected the performance of many state governments in Nigeria. Their Internally Generated Revenues have dropped, making most of them to depend on the statutory allocation from federating account.

In spite of this shortcomings, the Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano has been able to find a way out of recession.

It took a man of vision to foresee an impending doom and when Obiano saw the present economic crisis two years ago, he assembled technocrats in a retreat to arrest the impending situation.

Through the retreat, issues of how to generate revenue without necessarily waiting for federal government was discussed and solution provided. Issues of how to pay workers’ salaries were discussed without dependence on oil wealth, which of course had since thrown many state government into huge debts.

Read Also: Umeike's Death: Davido Finally Speaks
In his resolve to make Anambra investor destination and commercial hub in the Southeastern part of the country, Obiano came up with a blue print tagged, “the Four Pillars of Development which revolves around Agriculture, Industrialization, Trade and Commerce and Oil & Gas.

With the blueprint in place Anambra State was opened to investors by the creation of the Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA).

With the mandate of attracting investments and fast-tracking the process of investment in Anambra state, the Agency has attracted investments in Agriculture, Trade & Commerce, Manufacturing, Hospitality, Housing, Electricity generation, Waste management, Health, and Oil and Gas to the tune of $3.2billion to the state and more investments are coming.

Today, over 500 youths have been effectively trained in diverse skills and crafts at the Technology Incubation Centre in Nnewi while 500 other youths have been trained at the Agricultural Training Institute in Mgbakwu. With lots of great plans for the Anambra youths and the unemployed in Anambra State, the future can only get better.

In Agriculture, he launched the Agricultural Revolution in Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area. Two years after that action, Anambra State has almost realized the objective of becoming one of the Top-Three agricultural states in Nigeria. Anambra State has become an exporter of farm produce to Europe.

The state has also flooded the market with a wholly indigenous brand of rice known as Anambra Rice which is competing favourably with other brands in the market. Gov. Willie Obiano has so far attracted $150m from Coscharis Farms Project in Anaku, $50m from NOVTEC Farms Ltd in Ndikelionwu, $160m from Joseph Agro Ltd rice project in Omor, $220m from Ekcel Farms tomato production farm in Omasi and $50m from the Songhai/Delfarms integrated organic farm project in Igbariam. There are also Grains & Silos with $40m investment in storage facilities, Lynden Farms with the $61m poultry farm in Igbariam and Tricity Integrated Farms with $11.4m ultra-modern abattoir in Awka. Indeed, the fire of agricultural revolution is raging in Anambra State. A visit to Igbariam or Anaku will validate this fact.

At present, the state government under the supervision of Obiano has Asphalted Over 102 Roads; these include the three flyovers in Awka, which speak eloquently of his ambition to transform Anambra with world class infrastructure.

The nearly completed Arroma Bridge is not only a beauty to behold but a monument to the pride of our people. The two in Amawbia and Kwata are fast nearing completion. He has also built two bridges and a 5-Cell Culvert in Awgbu-Ndiukwuenu-Awa-Ufuma axis.

And in just two years, Gov. Willie Obiano’s achievements in the Education Sector has remained impressive in the past two years. This is so because Gov. Willie Obiano approached education in three broad areas – infrastructural development, pupils/students development, and teachers’ welfare. Under Gov. Willie Obiano’s watch, Anambra State has maintained her enviable position in NECO and WAEC examinations. Anambra’s brilliant school children took the Third position at the World Schools Debate Championship in Singapore last year and are the current champions in the national Pre-basic Debate Competition. The same debate team defeated the debate team from 80-year old Katung Secondary School in Singapore in January this year. To crown Gov. Willie Obiano’ efforts, our own Rose Nkemdilim Obi won last year’s national Teacher of the Year Award to underscore the silent revolution that is going on in the education sector. In terms of funding for schools, Gov. Willie Obiano’s administration has disbursed the sum of N733 million to mission schools, renovated 1000 units of 10-classroom blocks and awarded scholarships estimated at N30 million to over 200 students. More would have been done by his administration but for the bleak state of the economy.

Health Sector Has Greatly Improved Under Gov. Willie Obiano:
Gov. Willie Obiano has made progress in the Health Sector. Health being one of the Enablers is basic in Gov. Willie Obiano’s Four Pillars of Development. He has added new units to the Onitsha General Hospital and built a helipad for air ambulances for emergency cases. He has also built several blocks of houses that will serve as Isolation Units in cases of epidemics. The complex has been designated as the Centre for Tropical Disease Control. In addition, he is in partnership with the Rise Health Incorporation of America to strengthen rural health delivery in the state.

The partnership gave birth to a specialist outfit known as the Anambra Business Coalition (ABC) through which the Orumba General Hospital has been refurbished and re-equipped to deliver a world class medical service to the people of Orumba North and South. The ABC has also set up an ultramodern Rise Clinic in Adazi Ani and Onitsha respectively to offer quality healthcare to the people. Ossamola General Hospital Ogbaru will be given a similar attention this year. Meanwhile, Gov.

Willie Obiano has set machinery in motion to ensure the provision of a comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme for Ndi Anambra.

Benedict Peters was born and raised in Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Benin in 1989 with a degree in geography and urban planning, and immediately set out to launch his career. Mr. Peters' professional path includes experience in the commodity trading, banking and oil and energy industries. He has a passion for the environment and sustainable energy, and has co-founded two influential diversified oil and gas companies in Nigeria.

Early Career

Peters has nearly 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, where he has held a number of executive and senior management positions. In 1990 he co-founded Ocean and Oil, which was the largest privately-owned energy company in Nigeria and later became known as Oando. In 1994 he went on to serve as Managing Director at MRS Oil and Gas, a Nigerian petroleum company that currently owns Chevron/Texaco gas stations in West Africa.

Leaving MRS in 1999 to start his own business, in 2000 Benedict Peters founded Sigmund Cummenicci – a company that would focus on downstream oil and gas activities, beginning with tank farms. Sigmund Cummenicci's initial success was followed by a shakeup in the economic markets, leading Peters to restructure the business and in 2008 form the Aiteo Group. Mr. Peters maintained his position as CEO after the restructure. He oversees all company operations, growth and development as the company continues to diversify its holdings and increase its influence across the energy marketplace.

Professional Vision

Benedict Peters' aims to improve his country's infrastructure and economy by offering multifaceted power solutions that include mining, extraction, production, processing, manufacturing and marketing. His vision for the Aiteo Group is built on an integrated business approach that combines many aspects of the energy industry in order to provide an extensive solution and add value to the resources sector. Under Mr. Peters' leadership, Aiteo Group has created more than 11,000 job opportunities and continues to grow and expand into new fields.

Main Achievements

Benedict Peters is considered to be a pioneer in the oil and gas industry, and is frequently listed among Africa’s most successful corporate leaders. He was named 'CEO of the Year' in 2014 by Leadership Newspaper in Nigeria, in recognition of his contribution to enabling Nigeria to expand its control over its strategic oil assets.

Social Responsibility

Beyond the business world, Peters is involved in several community initiatives. In July, 2014, he founded the Joseph Agro Foundation, where he serves as Chairman. The Foundation is focused on improving the lives of farmers in rural regions, by giving them the tools they need to be economically successful. To this end, the Joseph Agro Foundation supports employment initiatives and projects that improve the school system in Nigeria, and also runs a number of awareness programs to promote responsible water consumption among farmers. Benedict Peters and the Aiteo Group have donated generously to the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency to assist the state in dealing with the acute problem of Internally Displaced Persons in Nigeria. He is also Chairman of the Otuoke University Council, which supervises and monitors the University’s implementation of its strategic plan and executive policies.
