Deprofessional: You would only be able to log in to the student portal if you have been offered admission (i.e if your name already appeared on the list). If your name already appeared on the list, your matric no is your application no (on your applicant form or exam pass) and your password is your surname in lowercase. 1 Like |

kristen12: Yh. Your login is the reference no ( not the application no on the exam pass) used in registering, while your password is your surname in lowercase. If you can remember the reference no, call unilag consult : 0802 333 6044, 0817 014 9597. Better still, check the admission list to see if you made it or not. |

Unilag Postgraduate Entrance Examination Results Analysis There will be remarks on the results which might likely get you confused. The four kinds of remarks usually found under the scores are listed below; 1. recommended 2. not recommended 3. not set 4. Stepped down Below is detailed analysis of the remarks; Recommended: Recommended mean you will definitely make the list. It might be first or second list but certainly your admission is guaranteed. Not recommended Not recommended means you didnt meet the cut-off marks set for your department, it does not mean you will not make the list but your chances are quite slim. Most people that were not recommended last year still end up making the second list and even very few made the first list. Not set your departmental cut off is not set yet. not yet certain weather you are recommended or not recommended. For this category I will advise you keep checking the portal until you see recommended or not recommended. Stepped Down Issues with your credentials/application and my advice is visit your department and clarify as soon as possible. 1 Like 2 Shares |
Education / Re: Nigerian Universities Academic Staff(teaching) Salary Structure by bayernistar: 6:01am On Aug 21, 2017 |
Job security is one of the advantages of being a lecturer, just like in many other government firms/ministries. Many people are still on the job today because of this. Elsewhere, such as banks, oil companies and many private firms, you could easily get sacked for various reasons such as not meeting up target, too many staff on payroll, forceful retirement etc. But it's not same in govt. Jobs, the worse case scenario- your promotion is delayed. The major disadvantage of being a lecturer is, no time for other engagement, like part-time job elsewhere, except when you attain the status of Professor. Professors are permitted to get involved in other engagement such as consultancy, part-time jobs with other universities etc. This is so because they spend limited hours in the classroom/lecture theatre. However, lecturing job could be profitable depending on the university. Some universities e.g University of Lagos, are very strict with lecturers when it comes to extortion. Lecturers ain't allowed to extort money from students in the name of handouts, textbooks, assignments, examinations etc. Only laboratory manual( for science students) is compulsory. Others are bought or paid for by students on their own volition. So lecturers in this case, hardly earn extra income aside their salary. Meanwhile in certain universities, lecturers make a lot of cash from selling handouts, textbooks. Some even go as far as collecting money from students for submission of assignments and upgrading of examination results. So in this case, lecturers are happy to stay on the job, as it means more cash, even though it's at the detriment of the students. 2 Likes 1 Share |
Education / British Vs American English (spelling) by bayernistar: 10:24am On Aug 20, 2017 |
British and American spelling There are several areas in which British and American spelling are different. The differences often come about because British English has tended to keep the spelling of words it has absorbed from other languages (e.g. French), while American English has adapted the spelling to reflect the way that the words actually sound when they're spoken. If you're writing for British readers, you should only use British spellings. In one or two cases, the preferred American spellings are acceptable in British English as well, especially the -ize/-ization endings. While you can use both the -ise/-isation or the -ize/ization endings in British English, it's important to stick to one style or the other throughout the same piece of writing. Here are the main ways in which British and American spelling are different. Words ending in –re British English words that end in -re often end in -er in American English: British US centre center fibre fiber litre liter theatre theater or theatre Words ending in -our British English words ending in -our usually end in -or in American English: British US colour color flavour flavor humour humor labour labor neighbour neighbor Words ending in -ize or -ise Verbs in British English that can be spelled with either -ize or -ise at the end are always spelled with -ize at the end in American English: British US apologize or apologise apologize organize or organise organize recognize or recognise recognize Words ending in -yse Verbs in British English that end in -yse are always spelled -yze in American English: British US analyse analyze breathalyse breathalyze paralyse paralyze Words ending in a vowel plus l In British spelling, verbs ending in a vowel plus l double the l when adding endings that begin with a vowel. In American English, the l is not doubled: British US travel travel travelled traveled travelling traveling traveller traveler fuel fuel fuelled fueled fuelling fueling Words spelled with double vowels British English words that are spelled with the double vowels ae or oe are just spelled with an e in American English: British US leukaemia leukemia manoeuvre maneuver oestrogen estrogen paediatric pediatric Note that in American English, certain terms, such as archaeology, keep the ae spelling as standard, although the spelling with just the e (i.e. archeology) is usually acceptable as well. Nouns ending with –ence Some nouns that end with -ence in British English are spelled -ense in American English: British US defence defense licence license offence offense pretence pretense Nouns ending with –ogue Some nouns that end with -ogue in British English end with either -og or -oguein American English: British US analogue analog or analogue catalogue catalog or catalogue dialogue dialog or dialogue The distinctions here are not hard and fast. The spelling analogue is acceptable but not very common in American English; catalog has become the US norm, but catalogue is not uncommon; dialogue is still preferred over dialog. |
