I was at Trade fair last month to meet an importer, whom I have been persuading to buy into our services.

Because the groom suit can mar and spoil the wedding experience. I had met many unhappy customers because they make poor choices, especially those who want to cut the cost that ends up paying huge with regrets.
While what this article seeks to prevent is to give you sound tips on what to consider and how to go about choosing the right wedding suit.

The choices can seem overwhelming for sure. No matter your budget, your personal style, or your timeline, if you read all our “wedding suit doctor series” buying the wedding of your dreams — the one you’ll love today, on the big day, and in 30 years from now when you look back at your wedding photos, won’t be an arduous task for you.
To get this done, here are my prescriptions for you (smiles);

1. Select the right colour
What you need is first to decide on the colour of the day, because this is the compass. The colour you and your spouse select for the day influences the focus of your shopping.
Interesting, a few of us so good with colour, during the four years of my practice as wedding suit doctor I had seen a very awkward colour scheme; there’s this guy, that like light green and orange, in fact, his wife said; everything about the guy is defined in orange and light green colours.
These colours are fine, but the headache they are not too cool to be the predominant wedding colour.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking your most cherished colour will be your predominant colour for your wedding day if you choose the wrong colour, is challenging finding the suit with that colour in the market.
2. Do Research to Find What You Like
Rip pages out of magazines, click through suit boutiques online, explore on Pinterest, Instagram and check out what celebrity brides are wearing to compile a visual file of your favourite suit styles and how they are styling their look. Then look for a connecting theme with your colour of the day and styling and the basic accessories that will give you a great look.
3. Select the style you and the complementing accessories
The first rule in style is to communicate your personality if you are a classic person you need to communicate it. Most times is the accessories and the fitting that get this done. If you want to look rich and reserved, types of fabrics you will use in making the suit, the colour and the style of the suit matter here most. Because, as a reserved person, you might not need too many accessories like bracelets and brooches.
4. Start the shopping process on time
At least do all your shopping for two months to the wedding, don’t wait till three weeks to the wedding before you will start shopping for your suit. One way to save cost is to shop on time because you won’t be under any pressure. Most people I had encountered what caused them to make a mistake was they were under pressure. When you are under pressure because of the few days to the wedding you won’t have time to research vendors and go for necessary fitting and sizing, especially if you want a bespoke for your day. The well-fitting suit takes two to three weeks to produce, and once it arrives, you still have to factor in more time for alterations and accessorizing.
5. Figure out Your Budget
Yes, it’s uncomfortable to talk numbers, but it will save you from heartache later on. Before your first appointment, figure out who is paying for the suit (your friends, or you?). If someone else is paying, get the hard numbers on your limit, so you can stay within that budget or pay the difference yourself to get the suit you want. When I ask who is paying for the suit many of my patients (customers) find it strange, while we have a hack on how to get your friends to pay for your suit without them knowing that they did. Especially if you have a huge network. The last pill will treat this.
6. Find a Great sartorial fashion brand or a boutique that sale nice suit
Do your homework before you make appointments since you don’t want to waste time at a shop that doesn’t carry suit you like or has terrible customer service. To complete the business documentation, immediately your business registration certificate is out, proceed to FIRS to get your Tax Identification Number certificate. You will need the certificate to open a corporate bank account.

It will cost you nothing to get this certificate, but if you do not apply for the certificate within 6 months after your business registration is out.

If it exceeds the grace period, they will require you to pay ₦10,000 penalty fee for doing not the right thing. Or you forget the business certificate and it will become invalid to use to run a business in Nigeria.

Prepare for manufacturing:

Unless you plan to sew every garment you sell, you must consider how your collection will be produced.

The garment production hub or the tailor hub is not just the means to an end–it’s the partner that will help you make your ideas a physical reality. So, making the right choice of clothing garment production is critical.

On average, you will get quality shirt fabric; cotton at ₦1000 per yard, you need two yards to make a long sleeve shirt while you need 1 yard and a half to make a short-sleeve shirt.

In choosing a garment production hub you should plan to interview several factory locations to find the one that is a right fit for your business. Hence it is not mandatory you work with us to profit from this booming business. Remember that you ensure that you maintain healthy profits margins for your business, and manufacturing will be a large percentage of your budget. Getting the best deal from your manufacturer will definitely impact on your profit.

When you reach out to a manufacturer for the first time, they will have questions for you — questions that you should be equipped to answer. If you take the time to establish your budget, understand the production timeline and know your designs inside and out then you’ll be ready for them.

For the profit, I know is question begging for an answer in your mind. The profit margin will vary depending on your brand positioning. Positioning as a premium brand will increase your profit margin if you are selling a unit at ₦7500 or more, but it has its demerit, your volume of sales will not be fantastic.

If you positioned as fast fashion and sell at ₦5,500 you will make ₦1784 as profit, VAT inclusive. Your VAT is ₦89.2, so if you deduct the VAT it leaves you with ₦1695.8.

In this situation, volume sale will be your major concern, if in a month you have two sale cycle at 50 units per cycle, you will make roughly ₦169,580 for the two cycles.
