jr4u2: The state government of Osun has said that the scourge of shortage in water supply would soon be a thing of the past in the state.
Speaking over the weekend, the General Manager, Osun Water Corporation, Engr. Gbenga Owojuyigbe, stated that the state government’s investment in water supply in partnership with developmental agencies is now yielding results.
Owojuyigbe stated that contrary to recent report of water shortage in the state, Osun continues to provide portable water to its citizenry to functional water works across the state.
He revealed that Ede water works, which happens to be the biggest in the state supplies 12 local governments.
“Osogbo Ede water works, the biggest water scheme in Osun, with a capacity of 180,000 m3 (cubic-meter) supplies water to 12 local govt areas of the state.
“The areas Osogbo Ede Water Dam supplies clean and portable water to includes Osogbo, Ede, Ife, Ipetumodu, Origbo Meje, Gbogan axis, Ifon Ilobu, Alarasan, Iwoye and other neighbouring towns.”
Engr. Owojuyigbe further stated that upgrades of facilities have been carried out at the Osogbo Ede water plant for increase efficiency. The upgrades he said consist of supply and installation of two 2,500m 3 /hr low lift pumps, supply and installation of one 1500KVA generating set (high lift) and other ancillary works.
The Osun Water Corporation boss revealed that pipes and fittings at Oyan Water Supply Scheme have been completely replaced and a new power generating set installed at Okinni dam.
Recall, early this year, the state government inaugurated the Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Committee, in a bid to ensure efficient and effective allocation of water to different categories of users in the state.
Also, a Water Sanitation and Hygiene Committees (WASHCOM) was set up by the Office of Rural Water and Environmental Sanitation Agency (RUWESA) in all rural communities of the state to ensure good sanitation and hygiene.
