Politics › "Change" Does Not Come By Magic- Tinubu Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 3:45pm On Jul 28, 2015
By Levinus Nwabughiogu

ABUJA–National leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has said that President Mohammadu Buhari and the party have at least 100 days of honeymoon before embarking on the implementation of “change” programme.

Tinubu who defended his assertion said it was a norm the world over for new leaders to settle in the office before unfolding their agenda for their country.

The APC leader who is also a former Governor of Lagos State was in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday for a private meeting with President Buhari.

He added that change does not come by magic, stressing that it is driven by people and proper planning.

“Excuse me! Let us calm now here. How long ago? May 29th was when this president was sworn in. It is an international norm all over the world, there is an honeymoon period, at least minimum of 100 days honeymoon. And you won’t allow honeymoon at all? You said change is not coming. Change is not by magic. It driven by the people, the spirit and the character and the planning.

“You see, we have had so much problem in this country in the past because we run into policy blind folded without adequate and effective planning you don’t have results unless you plan well.

“The time it takes you to plan, examine, rejig, re-evaluate is more important than the time you just rush into taking action because you are either being sentimental, being emotional and being driven by other forces that are not expected. It is not fair to jump into those conclusions.

“There must be time to plan, to review and even listen to people. There is a separation between a campaign period, articulating your vision, expressing the promises to Nigerians. There is a time to look at holistically at what you inherited, analysis it, distil and then take action.

Politics › Saraki, Ekweremadu Rubbish Senate Standing Rules, Impose Akpabio.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 3:17pm On Jul 28, 2015
Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu openly rubbished the Senate Standing Rules to impose former governor of Akwa Ibom state, Godswill Akpabio as the Minority Leader of the 8th Assembly.

Saraki in the process of imposing Akpabio shut down a member of his party, Senator Kabir Marafa, a member of the Unity Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has he attempted to point out the illegality of Akpabio’s choice.

Marafa called the attention of Saraki to the fact that as a first time senator, Akpabio was not qualified to occupy the position of the Senate minority leader, going by the Standing Orders of the Senate.

Marafa cited Order 13 (2) of the 2015 Senate Standing Rules and argued that a ranking senator was supposed to have occupied the position given to Akpabio.

But in apparent disregard for the Standing Rules Saraki told Marafa to “stop crying more than the bereaved”. He ruled out Marafa’s objection saying the PDP senators were not complaining and as such, urged Marafa not to.

He was however overruled by the Senate President who said the constitution of Nigeria allows any senator to hold any position.

Similarly, Ekweramadu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also opposed Marafa. He argued that it is the business of PDP to determine who is appointed as the minority leader.

The Deputy Senate President also said “the rule only stipulates that ranking senators should be considered first before other non-ranking senators and that if a ranking senator cannot take the position for any reason, then the next level of ranking senators can be considered,” he said.

Two members of PDP, had filed an ex parte application challenging the party’s choice of Akpabio as senate minority leader.

According to them, the ‎possible emergence of Akpabio as senate minority leader would breach the senate standing orders which bar first-term senators from holding such a position.

The court however threw out their application.

Politics › New Ondo Deputy Governor, Others Set To Dump PDP For APC.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 2:46pm On Jul 28, 2015
Another political war is looming between Governor Olusegun Mimiko and his newly appointed Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, over an alleged plan by the the governor’s lieutenants to decamp to All Progressives Congress (APC).

DAILY POST authoritatively gathered from a competent source in government that Oluboyo is perfecting his plan with a bunch of lawmakers and four commissioners to follow the same step taken by his predecessor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi, who joined APC few days to the 2015 presidential election.

The earlier plan of Olanusi and APC leaders was for him to decamp and the party to secure majority seats in the State Assembly, thereby creating avenue to impeach Mimiko.

But, their hope was dashed as Mimiko secured majority by winning 21, while APC has five seats.

Consequently, the lawmakers quickly impeached Olanusi to deny him the opportunity of becoming an obstacle to Mimiko’s government

However, sources inform our correspondent that the APC leaders are not relenting in their efforts not to allow Mimiko to complete his term as they are in touch with the newly appointed Deputy Governor.

It was easy for APC leaders to get Oluboyo to their side due to his relationship with the impeached deputy governor, Olanusi.

It was learnt that Oluboyo, who is from Ikare-Akoko was one of the boys of Olanusi during their days in Labour Party (LP).

Oluboyo was said to be planning earlier to decamp with Olanusi to APC after the general elections before he was made deputy governor.

Daily Post was informed that Oluboyo, Olanusi with some prominent members of Mimiko’s camp met with APC leaders in Lagos State early last month to perfect their plans to decamp to the ruling party.

Sensing another danger, Mimiko was said to have called some of his political confidants on how to quench the fire his new deputy is stoking.

It was gathered that the deputy governor, who is a former commissioner for Agriculture, is yet to receive his impress as a deputy governor after two months in office.

“Their plan is to frustrate Mimiko from producing his successor. They are on top of their games and I am very sure they will strike very soon. But Mimiko is an experienced politician that cannot be pushed aside in this kind of game.

“Part of the ways to deal with Oluboyo is that he had been placed on security watch. Go and confirm from anybody in the inner caucus of government if Oluboyo has been paid his impress as deputy governor? He is still receiving the impress of a commissioner. Remember he was the commissioner for Agriculture before he was elevated. Oluboyo is just a Commissioner dressed in Deputy Governor’s robe”. The source stated.

Oluboyo, when contacted, refused to pick up his phones as at the time of filing this report.

But one of the deputy governor’s aides, who did not want his name mentioned because of how sensitive the matter is, confirmed the relationship between Oluboyo and his predecessor, Olanusi.

But he said Oluboyo has always ensured he distanced himself from Olanusi due to the frosty relationship between Mimiko and Olanusi since he has been sworn-in.
