Former Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ekiti State, Obafemi Adewale, has lambasted the All Progressives Congress (APC) for causing the high expectations of Nigerians. He also accused the ruling party for the “needless crisis in the National Assembly”. Assessing the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain told Daily Independent that though it was too early for such, members of the public were being hard on him and his party because they promised heaven on earth during the electioneering. “They promised Eldorado, they promised paradise and they consciously raised the people’s expectations in their attempt to pull down the PDP government, led by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan. One thing people don’t realize is that talk is cheap, but walking the talk can be a little bit difficult in the face of reality. Now that the APC is in power, it is faced with the reality of governance. “They are faced with the reality of the consequences of the fallen petroleum prices on our economy. They are faced with the reality of the expectations of the people. And that is why the public is asking question, that we have done so much what are we getting in return? From the steps the APC-led government has taken so far, it gives the people the impression that it did not really mean what it had promised, or it was not being sincere with the people. “To that extent, one cannot sympathize with APC because the party is a master of propaganda. It believes in the Pull Down syndrome. And that was what they did to former president Jonathan, because the man was doing well. Now the APC has realized that the problems Jonathan was faced with are beyond what could be trivialized. I think it is APC that must be blamed for the unnecessarily high expectations of the people.” On recent events at the National Assembly, Adewale insisted that what happened at the National Assembly was quite legitimate. “There was an official schedule for the event, and if the APC lawmakers chose to go for a meeting at that appointed time, I think they are the people who engaged in impunity. The APC has been talking about one letter going to the clerk, let me state clearly that the party did not control the clerk. What happened in the National Assembly, for me, was just a dynamics of politics. It was an indication that indeed our democracy is coming of age. “The APC was prepared to bring the roof down on Senator Bukola Saraki, forgetting that it set the pace in 2011 when it collaborated with some PDP legislators in the House of Representatives to install Hon. Aminu Tambuwal as speaker against the zoning arrangement of the PDP. At that time, the APC claimed that there nothing like zoning and that zoning was a contraption of the PDP. Now the APC is faced with the reality of zoning. We must learn to accommodate everybody and the APC is unable to cope with it. “The best thing for us, the PDP, is watch the APC and let it expose its true nature to the public. If the PDP starts assessing the new government under one month, it would say what do you expect from them? One thing is sure: that what brought them together will certainly tear them apart,” Adewale added. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/18/apc-buhari-should-blame-themselves-for-nigerians-high-expectation-pdp-chieftain/ |
The former education minister and one of the coordinators of the ≠BringBackOurGirls campaign, Dr. Obiageli K. Ezekwesili, has charged Nigerians and the graduating students of the Lead British International School, Abuja, to pray for the return of the Chibok Girls abducted over 450 days ago by Boko Haram members. Ezekwezili gave the charge in Abuja during the schools’ 2015 Graduation and Prize-giving Ceremony. “Remember that for over 450 days now, school children like you have been deprived of the opportunity you are enjoying now, kept away from their happiness, loved ones and their educational pursuit by the merciless sect of Boko Haram. So pray for them and be good ambassadors of your school.” She added: “When you disrupt the education process of a child, you are indirectly disrupting the progression of your nation. Above all, exposing your wards to education early is what guarantees a better nation. The quality of the teachers also matters. The tool of global development today is education, quality education. If you have jokers in the classroom, you would have jokers as your leaders.” Also speaking, the deputy head of the school, Sir Clement Chukwudifu, said that the essence of the event was to reward hard work and achievement, adding: “In our school system every child is carried along. We have what we call special education system where students that require more attention are helped in tackling their learning difficulties in a psychological manner. And we always take those students that other schools have rejected and, by dint of commitment and hard work, these children are improving and growing. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/sunday/index.php/news/21346-pray-for-the-chibok-girls-ezekwesili-urges-nigerians |
As President Muhammadu Buhari departs for Washington DC tonight on a four-day official visit to the United States of America, the Chief Imam of Benin Central Mosque, Alhaji Abdulfattah Enabulele, has cautioned Buhari against accepting any Greek gift that would compromise the cultural and religious heritage of the Africa people in desperation to end Boko Haram menace. Buhari who is scheduled to be hosted by United States’ President, Barack Obama at his official residence on Monday morning, is expected to among other things, seek assistance and support for Nigeria’s war against the Boko Haram insurgency that is ravaging the country in the Northeast region. The Islamic cleric who gave the warning Friday in Benin, capital of Edo when he led other Muslims to pay Eid-El-Fitri celebration homage to the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole at the government house, noted that there was a new trend of civilization spreading in some parts of the globe. “Sir, America and Europe seems to have found a new civilization in sodomy. They probably believe that the men of Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed either because they were not clever enough or they had no nuclear power with which to fight God. “America is currently the champion of modern civilization. Whatever emerges from America is perceived as a trend of civilization which the rest of the world must keep pace. On June 27, 2015, America’s Supreme Court gave a split judgment of 5 to 4 that shocked the entire world to marrow. The judgment officially granted the citizens of that country the legal right to practice sodomy throughout the country in what is now seen as a token of civilization at higher pedestal. “With the current institutionalization backed up by government authority, it is characteristics of the west to want to impose any newly invented idea by them and considered as civilization on others. This is where President Muhammadu Buhari has to be very careful when he travels to the United States of America,” Enabulele said. The Chief Imam reminded President Buhari that the western imperialists have a way of attracting others to their folds with open carrots while hiding the stick, however noted that major vices like gay marriage, homosexuality, lesbianism and bisexualism which he said are contagious but will never have a place in the cultural and religious behavioural patterns of Africa and indeed the people of Nigeria. “The Western imperialists have a way of attracting others to their traps with open carrots while hiding the stick. With them, there is no free lunch. Every gift that comes from them is a Greek one. President Barack Obama seems to be desperate in helping Nigeria to get rid of Boko Haram menace, and he has noticed desperation on the part of President Buhari in solving the same problem. No Nigerian interest can ever be a priority for an American president. It is all about self-interest,” he added. He however prayed Almighty Allah to grant the President the strength, wisdom, courage, good health and determination to fulfill all his electioneering promises to the Nigeria people. In his remark, Edo state Deputy governor, Dr. Pius Odubu, who received the Muslim Ummahs on behalf governor Adams Oshiomhole, commended for the visit and also congratulated them on the successful completion of the one month Ramadan fasting and the Eid-El-Fitri celebration. Odubu however urged the Muslims faithful not to relent in their prayers to President Muhammadu Buhari and Adams Oshiomhole led government at the federal and state level. http://www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2015/07/19/us-visit-beware-of-greek-gift-islamic-cleric-cautions-buhari/
