7 THINGS TO NOTE BEFORE YOU SAY I DO TO A PPA series 2 The other night when we started this series, we established that PPA acceptance should not be rush into, just choosing a university. Don't get unnecessarily anxious, settling down early for a bad PPA already can make your service year unnecessarily hard, and you will just be counting days/months before the endurance end. Could be a year long endurance test after orientation camp, if not careful. Below we continue list of what to watch for, note two days ago caveat still applies, this don't apply for all ppa's and there are reasonable tradeoffs you should agree to; 5. Work load Don’t let them overwork you. You are not expected to teach more than two subjects if you are in a school (which is where majority of us honestly land) But sometimes out of compassion, you can take more if you can handle it. I took over 6 subjects during mine. I love teaching, I love those students and just have to help. But you might not be like me as it is exhausting, especially if you officially agree to it. Remember you will be producing lessons note, marking assessment and prepare examination at the basic. 6. Gather information Gather information from the existing corpers and workers in the organization to know how the management has being dealing with their workers. By this, you will be able to tell if they will be able to keep their promises to you or not. Also if you are an ex Corp members that work in a not too good place please share your experiences for other, and if possible mention names so other can run away from those places and experience. LGI don't often do their work of vetting firms as some could have even be closed down and you will still be posted there, so do your research and don't settle for anything especially now that you can still afford to negotiate. 7. Rules and regulations This might apply to every PPA, however, some PPA do have some rules that you might not be able to abide with. This is common among Mission schools and some organisations. There are some places they will tell you that’s you can’t wear this, you can’t do this, a male should not come visit, this, that’s and bla bla bla...Some firms will tell you to put on tight cloths, mini skirts to promote their product and bring customers. If it’s okay by you, tell them and if otherwise, tell them to reject you. So you might also need to ask existing corpers stylishly if they have any funny rules here. Conclusion, after you fine with them should you allow them to issue you an acceptance letter after all agreement. And you will take the letter to your LGI. Then you can now do you documentation and maybe go home and come back after the stipulated day. Do not be too anxious, this is where you will spend the rest of your 11 months. You are not meant to endure, you are meant to enjoy, and use them build your career. Don't also come up with unreasonable terms, I could remember someone negotiated part time work with his PPA after acceptance they choose to drag the case till ZI level and the corper is left with no choice as such negotiations is even against NYSC Bye Law. Look for patterns, have they done what you wanted with others in the past. Many firms like to engage corpers so measure your cost and benefit, and try not to be dependent on someone in LGA for ghosting clearance, if not a proper organization what if he not around, and it has led to a lot of more demands especially from the female gender. Overall, NYSC is just a small aspect of your life, if you can't get your perfect fit, negotiate and reference check. The reality is majority of us will serve in school as corporate good PPA offer oftentimes get easily filled up, infact some place test corpers before accepting them. So don't be lazy and know your rights. I think later we might talk about how to respectfully handle your PPA not wanting to reject you. Kindly share this with others who need this. |
WHAT NEXT AFTER CAMP Just like that NYSC 2025 C orientation course round up today. Below are the order of arrangements of things CM not relocated now needs to do Step 1 Report to your PPA: You will be handed a posting letter the day camp will close by your platoon officer. The first thing to do immediately after leaving orientation camp is to report at your PPA. In the local government, old corps members will welcome you. You can sleep over in the corpers lodge located usually close to the local government, then in the morning the following day, It is better to report to your PPA. What you will be taking to your PPA is the posting letter that was given to you on camp after the passing out parade (camp POP). The essence of taking your letter to your PPA is to determine whether they will accept or reject you. The posting letter is a letter addressed to your employer, and a detachable form is underneath. Advise: make a photocopy of your posting letter before submitting. At your PPA, the person in charge of corps member will either accept or reject you. In the detachable form, the PPA will either write YES or NO and stamp it. If a YES, that means you can continue your steps further, but if he/she rejects you, read on how to about request letter by checking the pinned post on this channel, format letter need is there as well. Step 2 If YES, submit your letter of acceptance to your Zonal Office or Local Inspector office as the case maybe: Once you are accepted in your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA), the form will be detached and you will be given the end part of the form and your PPA will keep the other part, you take the part given to you to the Zonal Office and submit. Depending on how far your PPA is to the Zonal Office, if it is very far, a local inspector will be attached to your area who will collect the form from you and record it in a register as you bring your slip. Step 3 Open a Bank Account/sort out Bank issues If you did not participate in camp or for any reason have not gotten an NYSC account. Or you have issues. Immediately you bring your acceptance letter and you fill do your documentation at the Local Inspector / the person attending to you at the Zonal Office assign you to a bank. Go to the bank immediately with 3 passport photograph and your NYSC ID Card lest I forget. For the next 1 year, you must always carry your ID card along anywhere you are going to. Your ID card and uniform will open doors for you (depending on how you utilize them). If you are in this case, report back to LGI office to fill account form, Majority of corpers are not in this category. Step 4 After all your documentation at the LGI office and having been assigned to a Group CDS. You can then enjoy your 2 weeks unofficial leave (depending on you PPA) Once you have finished steps 1-4 and you are sure, you can now travel, go for a training, read book for the next two weeks depending on your PPA. If your PPA is a school, most times they are either already on holiday period. So enjoy the holiday with them. But if your PPA is a private firm, ministry and other parastatals, your leave will be dictated by them, so please adhere to it. I hope you have found this post helpful. Kindly share to a platoon group and friends as it will help some people be informed and reduce their stress of settling down after camp. In summary, the steps are; 1. Report to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) 2. Submit your letter of acceptance to your Zonal Office or Local Inspector office as the case maybe 3. Open a bank account, sort bank issues and fill in your bank account number in the account register at the LGI office. 4. Enjoy your 2 weeks leave (depending on you PPA). Don't forget safety first in all your journeys Share with others in your platoon |
15 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ON PPA A LOT OF CAN BE ON THE MIND OF THOSE PASSING OUT OF CAMP SOON. HENCE, HERE IS A GUIDE OF THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT PPA. 1. What is NYSC PPA? NYSC Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) is a place where you perform the duty of serving your fatherland. You need a place to work and show contributions during your service year. And that is why the authority of your PPA will have to rate you when you are done with them. 2. Is It My Responsibility To Sort For PPA Myself? No, you will be assigned PPA at the end of Camp-Passing-Out-Parade (POP), except you relocate which you will still be assigned in your new state if you don't have recommendation. 3. What Are The Possible Places Of Primary Assignment In The NYSC Scheme? You may be posted to schools (Primary, Secondary, Colleges of Education, Polytechnics, Universities), Hospital, Clinic, Government ministries and Parastatals, Private companies/firms excluding oil companies, Shipping companies, and Banks except in special cases. 4. Why Would A PPA Reject Me? A PPA can reject you based on different reasons. However, the common ones are lack of accommodation, lack of space or facilities, too many corp members, not enough money to pay, and so on. 5. What is the benefit of getting rejected? It’s true; it may sound negative, but has a lot of benefits. If you are rejected from one PPA, you will have the opportunity of looking out for a more conducive PPA by yourself. And perhaps, one with higher pay. rejecting will give you an open cheque to find a place of your choice especially for non relocating corpers. 6. Can I change PPA after I am already accepted and started working? Yes, you surely can. Just that it’s not always as easy as when you have not been accepted at all. For you to be changed in this situation, you must be able to present a really genuine and important reason and excuse to your LGI. 7. Can I be rejected after I am accepted at a PPA? Yes, you can be rejected. I have seen a principal reject about 7 Corp Members for asking for their rights just four (4) months to the end of the service year. Your boss will write NYSC by him/herself. It is not your concern. This happens only in rare cases. 8. Can I change to a new local government entirely?... we will continued….. |

5 Ways To Make The Best Use Of Your Time At NYSC Camp Happy Sunday everyone, in this post we will be sharing on the best use of your, one in a life time camp activities. If you think about that for a minute alone, you will know it is not worth it complaining all through this one time experience We will focus on group & activities that can make the NYSC Orientation Camp worth it, as you can get you connection for relocation, money, posting & particularly time away the sunny parade ground Three weeks “orientation” period spent in a military-controlled boot “camp” away from family & friends, can be nothing but a beginning of many things for you, if you join places to increase your luck 1. Join the important groups It is one thing to be in camp, it is another to be part of the important activities a. Join OBS The Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) is a great way to serve while in the camp. A very important unit of the camp, it will offer you opportunities to not only develop your editorial & media skills, you will get to know the key officers in the camp. It also gives you a measure of authority & allows you to get an exemption from some of the camp activities which you may be averse to b. Join Man o war They are the special squad that welcomes dignitaries to the camp, after the quarter guards have saluted them, they are also rewarded for this duty and can keep you away from the sun on the parade ground That are likewise trained to lead the fellow platoon members in man o war activities, it is not a serious work like that, you will have fun singing, dancing & jumping c. Quarter guard & parade leader This is not always fun, but if you have experience with matching before, it will be easy for you. You can get connected if you excel also at this d. NCCF/Muslim Corpers Exco The whole essence of all this group is been active and there is no other place your been active can be rewarding than in your religious setting executive team 2. Run a small business You can actually make money while at the orientation camp. You can offer services such as hair dressing or laundry to others in the camp who need them for a fee or you can rent a stall at the Mami market and sell food items which most corpers need from day to day. It is a great way to hone your business skills before you are launched into the labour market 3. Do an online course The orientation period does not have to be all activities and socializing, you can further develop yourself on the side by registering and going through a short online course during your stay. The good thing about online learning is that it is flexible so you can actually plan it around the time that you will be leaving the camp 4. Socialize and actually meet new people The NYSC scheme was originally established to encourage oneness among citizens in the country & promote national unity. By sending these individuals to other states, the expectation is that they mix with people of other tribes, social & family backgrounds and learn the culture of the indigenes in the place they are posted. Rather than sticking to yourself all through the orientation process, use your spare time to actually fraternize and get to know the people in your platoon & camp as a whole. You would be surprised how many new things you will learn about Nigeria & what connections you may make for the future 5. Start applying for jobs/Publish project The orientation period is not too early a time to start sending out your CVs to potential employers. The NYSC orientation can actually serve as an avenue for corpers to share job information and career resources, so take advantage of that and start early. No better time to publish your work. It always come out helpful Note: that many of the camp officials you see are NYSC staff, that person might be your LGI, assistant LGI or something. So be nice to them, and be on the lookout for good PPA opportunities If you find any of these helpful, kindly share with a platoon mate and camp colleague. |
OLANIYI1985:Definitely, as long the firm doesn’t request for NYSC CERTIFICATION or if you have it already, you are good. The restriction is for NYSC. |
