Thanks a lot!!!
GraciousWords:

Congrats are in order, no maybe about it ma. CONGRATULATIONS on the PPR as well as the reconsideration!!!

No letter in GC key account, only PPR email is common according to the word on the street. Some VOs send PPR as a letter in the GC key account while some send as a direct email. So nothing to worry about.

We hear Nairobi and Accra are fast. For any VFS you choose, I would advise you assume 4/5 weeks minimum, to lower anxiety levels. I think you can do a foreign currency transfer if you have a dollar account, or PM anyone who has used these VFSs here on NL. The gist is to avoid London VFS like the plague, 8 weeks has been the general experience there.

Thanks a lot! This helps.

Hi Hi! Congrats on your PPR!

To answer question 1, yes, there was no update on my CIC page until counterfoil was generated. I still had in progress for most of the items and that only changed to "a decision has been made" after counterfoil was generated. I also did not receive any emails to this effect, I logged in to check when I received VFS email that my passport has been despatched back to VFS.

For the second question, I can only provide some information for VFS in Accra, the attached screenshot was valid as at April 2022 and held true if you were sending directly to Accra (cutting out Lagos/Abuja VFS)

Hi everyone. I want to share my good news (maybe?) and also ask some questions. By way of background, sometime in Feb 2020 (just before lockdown), I joined Nairaland because my EE application had just been refused for allegedly ‘claiming points for a professional degree in law’ even though my WES assessment of same indicates that it is a ‘bachelor degree in law’, and I needed all the assistance I could get. Indeed, God sent me angels from here who answered my questions and encouraged me to apply for a reconsideration/review. My application was eventually re-opened less than a month later and the hope was that we would receive PPR soon. That didn’t happen (full details on why later). So all through the covid lockdown, 2021 and half way through 2022, we heard nothing, despite several web forms raised and emails sent to addresses I obtained from the net.

Sometime in June, we received a request to redo our medical exams. From then on, we received a couple more requests and finally just last week, we received the ‘Ready for Visa Email’. I did not see it until after 2 days because it was sent to the first email registered with my account (which I changed after the initial rejection because my poor heart couldn’t take any more disappointments) and not the one currently listed on my account.

So now to my questions:
1. Even though we have received PPR email, there is no update on my CIC account - I read somewhere that this happens. Confirmations will put my mind at rest.
2. Which of the countries should we send our passports to and what is the process (submission, payment, etc)? I heard Accra and Kenya are fast, however, I have not been able to figure out the fees payable. My passport and my son’s will expire next year March, so we really need the passports stamped, so we can do first landing possibly before the end of the year, so please help.

PS: AOR was May 2019 - so almost 39 months (3 yrs and 3 months). Hope that encourages someone, however, I do not wish it for anyone.
I will share my full story when we get the COPR. Thanks in advance !

Thanks a lot. The application has been re-opened.

Good morning my neighbour. Hope you're all feeling okay? grin
Thought I should share what caught my eyes on IRCC's Twitter account; who knows if it would help someone.

Thank you. Quick update, my application was re-opened after I sent in my request for reconsideration. Other than a request for clarification on my name change, there has been no update since then. Thanks to everyone that pushed me to send in that request. Now we wait...

Yes, he does.

Does your spouse report directly to the MD of his/her organisation?
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 9 by BelovedQuerida(f): 12:29am On Feb 18, 2020
Hi ladymarshall, I have drafted the LoE and sent to you. I was able to connect with a classmate that is now in Canada that used both WES and IQAS for his qualification. Thanks a lot.

ladymarshall:
You appeal for reconsideration by drafting an LOE and attaching it when you raise the CSE. I will also advice you send a direct email too.
Please take your time to draft the appeal letter and be careful about your choice of words and how you argue it and the proof your show. It will determine if they will even reopen the case. If you like, you can send it to me and I can help edit.

Requesting for reconsideration won’t affect you reentering the pool. You can do both simultaneously. You don’t need to state in your letter that you reentered the pool. If your request for reconsideration is granted, you simply delete your new profile in the pool, if not, no p.

Request for reconsideration is free. But take your time with the letter. It’s the only make or mar instrument you have.

Just putting all the options on the table really. We will definitely be appealing, just wanted to go into it fully informed. I have tried to raise CSE, but there is no option for appealing a rejection. Can you please assist (if you know how) on the exact process. Thank you.

Influential101:
Are you more interested in knowing whether the decision can be reversed or reentering the pool with CRS that may not get ITA? I advised this seeing that even if you add your spouse's ECA, you won't get to 470. Many people have appealed their rejections and gotten favorable responses.. Well, I don't know if it will stall your re-registration and it doesn't cost anything, it's just emails.

Again, all the best.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 9 by BelovedQuerida(f): 7:49am On Feb 16, 2020
I will do this. However, do you know if this will stall my re-entry into the pool? Also, will it be at a cost?

Influential101:
My advice is to appeal the decision with screenshots from CIC website highlighting Law as a professional degree...In addition, if you can get a copy of IQAS evaluation of law degree from your school, attach it and state that you didn't see the need to evaluate with IQAS who awards professional degrees to same Law degree from your school, given that it's already stated on CIC website as a professional degree... raise CSE and mail MPs whose emails you can get from your AOR group..

Even if you wanted to claim professional degree, you should have backed it up with LOE seeing that your degree wasn't evaluated as that.

I like how positive you're but I feel you should appeal, it doesn't cost anything.. CRS cutoff points are on the high side now and it makes sense to atleast appeal..

All the best

You need before you apply, not before an EOI, which is not an application. He will need it before an application can be made.

jjohndoe83:

Not sure about how Saskatchewan works but I thought you needed ECA before you can submit an EOI?
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 9 by BelovedQuerida(f): 11:01pm On Feb 15, 2020
I just checked the Sask OID and noticed that my hubby's NOC is on the list. I have just submitted an EOI for him. The point is low though (63), but it was enough to get him in. We will proceed with evaluation of his qualifications. I am so grateful for your assistance and help, thank you. I am choosing to be positive because I really just cannot afford to break down now.

Mamaroon:

All hope is not lost at all, at all.

We all make mistakes...it's to learn from it and find the way out that is important.

Great suggestion from jjohndoe83, spouse BSc can fetch you extra 8 points...no need to wait for MBA (10 points). Spouse IELTS if maxed, can fetch you 20 points..meaning an extra 8 points if previous result was a CLB7 or 8 (12 points). Then you too maxing out on IELTS to CLB10 if possible and being ready to shoot out your transcripts to IQAS once they reopen, and you could see yourselves in the late 460s or early 470s.

Depending on your NOC, one province might even pluck you up before then. Sask has expanded their OID list significantly, you may want to check there for your NOC or spouse's NOC.

All the best ma'am.

Thanks a lot for responding.

Yes I have calculated my points. I hit the exact 65 for 189 and that is because I scored 0 for partner qualification. I will score an additional 10 if I claim I have no spouse at all? For 190, 80 points if we evaluate spouse's skills and its favourable and 75 if we don't. Yes I have gone through the SLA (cursorily for now) and I am fairly satisfied. I note I may have to write an Academic IELTS (I have a general one), but other things are in place. As for my husband's, I am still trying to figure out the information. I understand that his qualification will be assessed by AIM. I will do as advised though, thanks again for responding.

Experience4u:
Firstly is what's is your total point for 189 and 190
Secondly, have you gone through SLA to know if you are truly eligible to apply as a Solicitor
Thirdly, have you gone through vetasses to ascertain your husband can apply as Sales and Marketing Manager based on roles and responsibilities.

To answer your questions, both of you don't actually need to apply individually. One application is enough and the other can be a dependant.
However, to up your points, your spouse can go for assessment and English test to help boast your points.
Pls take time to read from page one

Thanks.

I had 8 in IELTS and spouse had 6.5, so I think we can do better there. We did not evaluate spouse's degree at the time, but we will be doing so now. We will enter the pool with whatever we have now and maybe by some miracle, the scores will drop for a minute and we can get ITA again with those points.

Thanks again.

jjohndoe83:

Wow this is so sad.

I like it that you're willing to try again. It may be helpful to compare your CRS (if you claim 2 or more certificates and max out IELTS) and the current CRS levels. Not sure it is a good idea to wait till May.

Have you also exhausted CRS options? Spouse evaluation of degrees?

@silversurfer, I recall we had a conversation on this exact issue you weeks ago

Wow, I could do this and keep my fingers crossed. Do you know where I can get the email address of the immigration minister?

Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

ednut1:
sorry about this. you can raise a CSE to request for reconsideration and argue the fact it is a professional degree per CIC. also get that your friend to liaise with the MP in her area to help intervene in the matter, Mail immigration minister too.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/federal Skilled Workers Program - Connect Here Part 9 by BelovedQuerida(f): 7:42pm On Feb 15, 2020
Many thanks for your response.

Yes, I realise I have to create a new profile. I am at it and I understand that our points will drop significantly for apparent reasons as well as for my age. We entered with 454 and got ITA at 452, the lowest since may 2019 - so I am not sure how possible it is to get an ITA anytime soon with something much lower. We have decided to enter the pool again with what we have in the meantime. Then we will go about getting my degrees reevaluated. We will also evaluate my spouse's degrees. He has almost completed his MBA (I am not sure he will get his certificate till almost year end though). We will most likely rewrite IELTS too (maybe this time I can get a 9 *amen*.) I also heard IQAS isn't receiving applications, but the person who told me said March - I will check. I could share the WES evaluation, but the important part is as quoted below:

"Canadian Equivalency Summary - Bachelor's degree (four years) and postgraduate diploma (one year)"

Looking back I think it was pretty silly of me to have ignored the diploma bit, thinking it won't matter because of the postgraduate bit and the fact that it is law after all.
Mamaroon:

Sorry about the refusal.

1. I don't believe you are in the pool anymore. You can create a new profile with your current GCKey sign in. I am not 100% sure of this.
2. IQAS was giving the equivalence of professional degree from the experience of others here but they are not accepting new applications till May 2020, perhaps your friend did her evaluation with IQAS
3. If IELTS expires before ITA, I believe you need to redo it.

What is your current CRS? Perhaps you could also share your WES evaluation, personal info blocked out so other lawyers can see and learn.

Sorry again.

Hi everyone, My family and I just started considering immigration to Australia and I have a quick question (or maybe 2). I am eligible to apply for 189 and 190 as a Solicitor, however my spouse is only eligible to apply for 190 as a Sales & Marketing Manager. My question is can I apply for 189 and still travel with my spouse even though he is ineligible for 189 or do we both have to apply for 190. A follow-on question will be if we have to apply for 190, do we both need state nomination to submit EOI or will one person's nomination suffice? I apologize if similar questions have already been answered on this thread and will appreciate any direction I am able to get. Thanks!

Hi everyone. I need help. I have been a guest reader on Nairaland but just joined a few minutes ago. I started the EE process in 2018 with my family. Got ITA Feb 2019 and AOR May 2019. We just got a refusal notification and we are just devastated. I am a lawyer qualified to practice in Nigeria and was advised by my friend who got her PPR last year (also a lawyer) that my qualification entitles me to claim that my education qualification is equivalent to a professional degree. I did this and then evaluated both my LLB and law school result with WES. However, the refusal states that WES had not evaluated my qualification as a professional degree and as such I was ineligible to receive the ITA I received on the basis that my points dropped by 7 points. Right now I am just confused and I need guidance on so many things.

1. What happens after a refusal, do I just go back into the pool or do I have to delete my profile and create another one
2. Will using IQAS instead of WES get me the right evaluation or will that just be a waste of time
3. Our IELTS will expire this June (2 years), are we going to have to write that again
4. I am trying to send emails to some people that have been of help here but I can't obviously because I am a stranger.

Please help anyone.
